I may be biased here. La Selva is the one beach my parents would take the family to every summer. My three sisters and I were able to trot on down from the beach houses you can rent and set up towels anywhere we liked. The beach itself seems private, but its not. It is clean, patrolled by lifeguards and enjoyed by surfers.

This year my mom decided was "year of the dolphins" cause we saw them everyday that we were out there. It tends to be a sunny beach, and usually clears up around lunch time.

The only drawback is no alcohol on the beach. The lifeguards always warn us, but no tickets yet! Just make sure to pour it in a cup or shield it behind the ice chest when you hear a truck coming.

we rented a beach house on San Andrea's road.. so La Selva beach was our daily getaway. We loved it.. not too far from the parking lot, easily accesible by stairs or a ramp, very clean, wonderful waves..big enough to be exciting but not dangerously big (for us with experience). Lots of surfers to watch...perfect for boogie boarding. The kids had a hay day playing frisbee, building sand castles, chasing waves, and trying to boogie board. It almost seemed like  aprivate beach because there was so much wide open space for everyone, and yet we had the convenience of bathrooms and lifeguards...although the one time the kids needed the bathrooms they were some of the dirtiest I've ever seen. I actually gagged! Other than that though, the beach was fantastic. We were lucky to have the blessing of our own bathroom just a very short walk away at the beachhouse so all things considered we will def be going back there!

Ah, La Selva beach, my summer getaway. My parents started renting a beach house there every year once I hit puberty, so my early memories have to do with sneaking off to meet boys or smoke a doobie. These days, my three sisters keep me entertained enough to believe I'm on one continuous acid trip.

You may think that La Selva is unworthy of my fondness -- it's situated in a Bay so every day sunny skies are a crap shoot. Still, it's a gorgeous beach, with sand that's not too dirty with seaweed and all of that other stuff that tends to wash up and blemish the shoreline. Also, it's a very long beach, so you can opt for eye candy or alone time, depending on your mood.

This year was particularly nice. Every day was sunny, and even though I was only there four days, I spotted dolphins and otters just off shore and a whale way off in the distance. Also, the sunsets were particularly beautiful, streaking the whole sky with a warm pinky haze.

I left tanned (well, that's a stretch), happy and more at peace than I've been in months. And no, it wasn't the xanax.
