We stayed here for two nights in anticipation for the Yountville yelp elite event.

Right off of Highway 29, turn into the driveway for "Bistro Don Giovanni" and veer right. Although pretty easy to find during the day, it was quite hard to find at night so make sure to check Google maps for the nearest cross streets.

The buildings are quite beautiful and their deluxe rooms in the main building (French Barn) have comfortable king or queen-size beds. Although $280+/night and more if one chooses to upgrade to a suite, it is cheaper than other B&Bs in the area and there is no two-night minimum. They have breakfast from 8AM - 10AM and are amenable to bringing it to direct to the room if you or your significant other feel under the weather (a.k.a. hungover). Staying more than two days could be problematic if one's taste buds suffer from ADHD because the same veggies I found in my "Veggie Scramble" on Saturday was in my "Veggie Omelette" on Sunday. It was beautifully presented though. Breakfast came with potatoes, toast, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and orange juice.

Wine hour is from 6PM to 7PM where they feature one white and one red of their "Hall" wine along with a selection of cheese, fruit, and crackers. Bottles are available for purchase.

The rooms were comfortable but could use some fixing up. The showerhead didn't seem to be installed properly and suffered from hard water build-up so about half the water sprayed backward against the shower wall vs. through the showerhead. The flat-screen TV is maybe 19" and at the foot of the bed so some people might have to keep their glasses on while watching. Cable is basic. Stand-up shower instead of a tub. DVD players are not in every room so they must be requested. We were also unfortunate enough to have the room right by the stairway where everyone walks by and the french doors did not have a layer of sheer curtains. As a result, we kept the thick curtains closed most of the time for privacy which also blocked out all the wonderful sunlight that Napa gets and San Francisco does not.

Other than a couple updates needed on their more "basic" rooms, this place is still a convenient and nice stop for a Napa getaway with large comfy beds, fireplace, A/C for the hot days, and free wifi in a beautiful location.

3 1/2 stars.

this place is super cute.  we stayed here this wknd for my fiance's bday, and it did not disappoint.  upon arrival, we were upgraded to the king suite, which was a great room.  the bed is really comfy, and the room comes w/ frette robes and molton brown bath products.  there was a fireplace in teh room, which we didn't use, as well as a dvd player, and you can borrow dvds from the front desk.

there is a wine hour from 6-7 and breakfast in the AM.  for breakfast, there are 2 options (a veg and a non veg), and there are also some pastries, fruit, coffee, and juice.

the stay overall was lovely, and for the price, it's a much better deal than some other b&bs.  it is also very easy to find right off 29 (turn off at bistro don giovanni) right before yountville.

Muy romantico. Everything I love about Napa. Rustic, quiet, scenic. Highlights include: free wifi, spacious hot tub, wine and cheese hour, incredible beds and fluffy towels.  Rooms are furnished with antiques but bathrooms are new and spacious, TVs are modern. Breakfast may be included, but it's not so great, so venture forth into town instead.

Pictures to come.

La Residence is a place i will definitely come back to. Having been referred to it by Gloria Concierge service, who was supremely helpful in getting me last minute reservations all over the place on a cold rainy saturday night in Napa Valley, they provided us with the most quaint and comfortable room for myself and my parents at a last minute notice.

Everything about the place was done so nicely and comfortably. It had the feel of a B&B. the young man at the front desk was super nice and let me borrow a dvd from their little shelf collection (of very good choices) and even offered to put a dvd player in the room for me. he carried all of our bags up to our third floor room and explained that everything in the room (snacks, beverages, internet and all) were all complimentary. super nice about and didn't "wait around" for a tip, so i had to chase him down later to pass it to him.

because we were 3 adults, they put a rollaway bed into a small alcove (room was L shaped) with no extra charge or bother about it. they also provided plenty of towels and 3 gorgeous bathroom robes. the king sized bed was extremely comfortable with fresh linens and super comfy pillows. the room had a cd player with lots of classical cds stocked and a flat panel tv. though the rooms were supposed to have fireplaces, because we got the last available room, our fireplace was faux. didn't bother us at all though.

Checkout was at 11am, with a complimentary breakfast from 7:30am-10am. breakfast offered choice of morning drinks and either a lovely eggs benedict with ham or a healthy choice of cereal/oatmeal/yogurt and fruit. the portions were small though and didn't have any extra frills (potatos or salads or whatnot - eggs benedict was literally 2 english muffin halves with toppings and that's it - should've used smaller plates to make it look less "small").

entire experience was very lovely, comfortable and charming. if we come back to napa to stay the night, my parents have made it clear that they want to return to this inn. but the place is EXTREMELY difficult to find, especially in the dark. howard lane simply isn't findable - located off 29 between Salvador and Main. they have trees decorated with white christmas tree lights in front. turn at the BISTRO DON GIOVANNI restaurant sign and keep to the right - it's at the end of the lane. my rate for the end of the peak season was $299 for a saturday night.

w00t, my first first!

this place can be summed up by the lyrical genius (sarcasm alert) of the B-52's:

The Love Shack is a little old place
where we can get together
Love Shack baby, Love Shack bay-bee.
Love baby, that's where it's at,
Ooo love baby, that's where it's at

seriously, even the frogs in the pond out front were getting it on.  lots of riveting ribbiting all night long.

seriously tho, la residence is pretty cool.  i'm not a huge fan of bed 'n breakfasts in general - some too hard  to be "charming," with all sorts of antique furniture, cast iron tub, lacy throw pillows...all very nice to look at, mind you, but not very comfortable?  and then other b&b's are just...icky.  you know what i mean.

la residence is CLEAN and COMFORTABLE.  i can't stress that enough.  it's like staying at a cottage run by the hyatt.  and the off-peak price, ~ $200/night, certainly makes it good value for the money.  (honestly, i don't know why more people don't go to napa around the march/april time of year - it's cool, quiet, you get a lot more love from the wineries and the restaurants - why deal with the 110 degree heat in summer?)

so for the b&b part: the bed - springy; the breakfast - good, not great.  small but tasty portions, which is good, considering the amount of rich foods you consume in just a few days in napa.  i probably quadrupled my cholesterol count in one weekend.

the best thing about la residence - free WIRELESS.  romantic, i know.

the worst thing: the music CD they provided was titled "ultimate romance - becoming one."  yechhhhh.  i wanted to antibacterial my hands after putting the CD back in its case.

if you're going here for the first time, just know that it's pretty hard to find - howard lane is where bistro don giovanni is - if you've hit oak knoll road going northbound, you've gone too far.  bust a U and look for the next little left turn turnout.

so, if your kinda thing is sitting on a wooden deck, having wine, cheese, and a little bread for dinner while looking over the moonlit rows of grapevines, then this little love shack should suit you just fine.
