Had to drive here to meet some potential clients about an upcoming shoot.
We decided to stay the night here.

I've been to the La Quinta Inn in Palm Springs, which has a bit different layout...more open, but this is still a nice place to stay.

the desk people were always friendly and helpful.  We loved the FREE wireless access and kept up-to-date with news with the tv.

The Continental Breakfast was nice: ALL sorts of stuff to choose from - pancakes, waffles, fruit, yogurt, otameal, eggs, bacony bacon (the thick stuff), muffins...all at our leisure while watching the Madoff  "scandal-watch" unravel on the TV in the foyer.

Only thing we DIDN'T like about Fremont - and don't let this deter you from staying at La Quinta -
...after dark, the city's street signs suck ass!

Couldn't find TWO of the restaurants we were looking for in the dark, because we couldn't find the damn street sign telling us if we'd gone too far, or not far-enough (should have brought a GPS).

Finally, while turning around to head back we found a kebob place that claimed they didn't have beef kabobs (of all things), yet they kept describing this one dish as 'beef'...yet later they said they didn't have any beef kebobs.  i actually had to mention to them that beef comes from a cow.  they looked at me like i was a meat-eater or something.

it was strange.

I was there for two nights and the experience was great.  Nicely located in the heart of Silicon Valley, right by 880.  Close to Milpitas, thus food is no problem.

My friend and I arrived late, but there was always someone by the lobby ready to serve you.  We got our room very quickly by just giving the name on the reservation.  The elevator could use a little detailing work on the inside, but everything seems to be working fine.

The room was HUGE.  Much bigger than what I have expected out of a similar room.  It has a TV, a three mirror entrance that you can use to tidy up your attire before leaving your room, a decent sized bathroom, and most importantly, FREE HIGH SPEED INTERNET.  Although we did not have the chance to use it on this trip, the sound of FREE HIGH SPEED INTERNET being available was just icing on the cake!

One thing that troubled me was that a single King bed room was actually more expensive than two Queen bed room.  I believe their explanation was because of the King bed room has a mini refrigerator.  Um, right.

Also, the room cleaning crew is pretty loud in the morning, you can well hear they are knocking two doors down the hall.

With the above mentioned criteria, I would definitely stay there again if chance calls for it!

Okay, it's not the Four Seasons or a hotsy-totsy Napa auberge.  But as moderately priced East/South Bay lodgings go, this La Quinta is excellent.  It's a five-story building with great sound insulation.  Although it's next to 880, I didn't hear a peep of freeway noise (I was on the other side of the building from the freeway, but still); I didn't hear any noise from other rooms, clanky pipes, etc. that's often so annoying in this grade of hotel.  Excellent, comfy, pillowtop-style bed, very clean room and hallways; the decoration is nothing special but very restful and tasteful.  The air conditioning was icy cold when I set it that way, and the window also opened for another option (no screen though).  There is a single coin washer and dryer, fitness room, and a small pool.  They have one of those DIY breakfast buffets where you can make yourself waffles, toast, or a bowl of cereal; not great, but the lobby/breakfast room is pleasant, with a big pile of free Sunday papers, and you can also sit in the pretty little garden area.  I paid an extra $8 or so for a room with a small fridge and microwave.
La Quinta is a pet-friendly chain and very many of the guests I saw, including myself, had a dog, cat, or bird in tow.  The cleaning staff were clearly used to the sight of a litter box in the bathroom and quickly closed the door to the hall so my cat didn't escape.
If you're coming from the north, the hotel is hard to spot -- look for the much taller Marriott, La Quinta is right behind it.  From the south you'll see it as you exit.
The location is not really close to anything except the NUMMI plant, but at the next exit north is the Pacific Commons mall which is useful; central Fremont is a few exits in one direction and Milpitas in the other.
