8 reviews for La Quebrada
I have been going to this restaurant for years! it's a diamond in the rough. It is definitly worth the drive. The mexican food here is delicious and fresh. This is as close as you get to REAL mexican food. This is my FAVORITE mexican restaurant of all!!! No one can top it. Prices are affordable. This is the place to go to. Try it next time you're in town. it's located on Roosevelt between (laramie & cicero ave.) it's off of I-290. You will not regret going.
P.s The salsa is excellent!
This place is fantastic. Great food that is well-prepared and about as close to being in Mexico as you can get. My all-time favorite here is just a simple side dish - fried cheese together with their hand-made tortillas (queso asado).
Everything about this place is great. Salsa is warm and has great flavor. Seafood is also very good - I usually go with the Acapulco dish that is a seafood combination in great sauce with rice & beans.
Highly recommended all the way around.
Thank goodness for la quebrada! Now I never ever have to leave Cicero for good food. Seriously wonderful. And it's the salsa that keeps me coming back! Its warm and fresh, and oh so delicious. Aside from that, I love the fresh squeezed oj (along with the handy machine that makes it) and my fam enjoys the huaraches. Can't wait to try the rest.
It looks like a greasy-spoon diner in an ugly industrial part of Cicero, but damned if this isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Chicago. There are 6 other locations in the area, all with the same consistent quality. If you don't have a car, try the one on 51st and California. It's just 4 blocks from the Kedzie Orange Line stop.
Every meal starts with piping hot, homemade salsa de molcajete. All of the main dishes are standouts, especially those with beef. I usually order the Cecina Estilo Guerrero, a thin-sliced beef platter served with rice, pinto beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and fresh tortillas. It's a steal at $8.95. You can also get cecina tacos, filled with all of the above ingredients, for $1.75 each. Carne India, a strip steak that comes drenched in a mysterious spicy sauce, might possibly be the best $10 steak in the city. My only complaint is about the jukebox playing loud Norteno music at seemingly random intervals (no one ever seems to actually put money in it, yet it still runs continuously).
I've often wondered why this place isn't more popular, especially after years of LTHForum love. Oh well... it just means there's never a wait.
DE-FREAKIN'-LICIOUS!
Kids, if you really like Mexican Food...and I'm not talkin' Caesar's ( which is fantastic for a whole other set of reasons ), you simply must venture forth from the comforts of your neighborhood, and roll "west-side" style, and hit this place...
Cecina Burritos, Steak "La Quebrada" and a host of other awesome looking selections on the menu, will not disappoint...
I highly recommend the place based on the salsa alone...it's cooked fresh ( yes, cooked ) and brought to your table piping hot...temperature, and spice-wise.
Go, and be prepared to whip out a smattering of your high-school Spanish knowledge...trust me, it helps.
Enjoy the trip!
**** I forgot to mention...FREE PARKING!!! ****
I know that you've probably spent many a Friday night wondering where you and the Mrs. should go for some slow-roasted goat, well have I got the place for you! La Quebrada serves up barbacoa de chivo that will make a believer out of you and all of your friends. This place is all about keeping things simple and good.
dido on 1st. review
just had the chilaquiles in green salsa...excellente!
great fresh squeezed oj
they have 7 other locations thruout chicagoland all owned by family members. (i imagine with same quality food)
very polite waitstaff.
worth going out of your way for this one!
My husband and I visit this place frequently. their crowd is usually latino families, and couples... not too crowded, good conversation levels and you can usually always get a booth.
I always get their picaditas and he gets the enchiladas. their other meal options are worth trying too. I don't really care for their salsa.. its OK, but a little tooo watery for me.. the service is generally good, their prices are cheap... they should really work on letting you pay from the table instead of having to go up to the register. overall it's good, I recommend it.
