You know how you've heard over and over again that you need to go get fitted for a bra and you'll be shocked at your true size and the whole thing will completely change your life and wardrobe?  Well, it's completely true and if you're looking for an epiphany, you don't need to wait and wonder anymore.  Ring the bell of La Petite Coquette, look for Rachel, go behind the curtain, take off your shirt and she'll size you up.  Make sure you have about a half hour for this process, bring your AmEx card (the platinum one) and, please, check your self-consciousness at the door.

So I spent $317 in one pop on three articles of under things.  So completely worth it.  Rachel went above and beyond for me and racked the entire store to make sure my rack was looking perfect.  She taught me some bra wearing techniques (you'd think I'd know these by now, but no) and would take one look at me in the bra and just say "No, not perfect."  She stayed AFTER closing (I got there late) and watched me try on about twenty bras before we found ONE perfect style.  She told me my size (yes, it's shocking... I can't post it) and we found a REALLY PRETTY and delicate (isn't this so important)  option that I adore.  I bought two of the "perfect" bra, one is in a slightly different style, and I want like five for every day of the week.  They took down my information and promised to call if more bras arrive that will be PERFECT for me.

I want to wear these bras all the time.  They have lifted... my confidence and all of my shirts look awesome.  Like I said, the whole thing has been life changing.  I stopped back in the store to personally thank Rachel and I am going to stop into that store whenever I walk down University place so I can see if there's anything new in stock.

If your bra isn't working hard for you, definitely go to "the little flirt" and pick up something sexy that's both mentally and physically supportive.

Highly recommend.

A few years ago, when the news of how most women are wearing bras with the wrong sizes first hit the air waves, I dutifully schlepped down to my local VS to be measured by a militant German-looking woman. She ran her tape measures and consulted the chart and pronounced my new size.  It was an improvement over what I had been wearing up until then, but somehow things still didn't fit quite right. After watching one of the Tim Gunn shows, I was determined that on my next trip to NYC, I will make bra-fitting a mission.

So on this trip, I checked out both Town Shop and La Petite Coquette. Both offered excellent custom fitting (they agreed on the size independently). Both sales associates were knowledgeable and friendly. For me, La Petite Coquette held an edge over Town Shop simply because the shopping experience was a little bit more pleasant.

This cute boutique is small but not cramped. There is a comfy chaise for tired shoppers (or male companions of the shoppers). The front also showcases some elegant gowns and robes. The dressing rooms are well-lit and comfortable (roomy enough to include an upholstered sitting chair). Like other reviewers, I also appreciated the white halter top sanity check.

They carry a wide variety of styles, both for everyday use and for special occasions. The selection seems wider than those at Town Shop.

Now the down-side: as it has been pointed out, the products are on the expensive side.  But after doing some price comparison online, I think they are selling everything at suggested retail prices. They just carry relatively expensive lines. It is also worth mentioning that the "t-shirt bras" the sales representative first brought for me to try were all under $70, so I don't think they are trying to push customers to the more costly items.

Overall, I've been extremely happy with my shopping experience there. I am looking forward to future purchases, after my wallet recovers.

personally... it's pretty hard for me to find SEXY-TIME lingerie. especially because i'm a little more *ahem* BLESSED *cough* in the buppies (boobies) department.

i have been hearing about this boutique for ages. i was a little sketched out because no matter what the hype... i always feel like i can NEVER find my size. so, i would shop at ridiculous places and ask pr0n stars and strippers (well, DUH... ) where they would buy their bras. with trial and error- it was rare that i ended up with a new bra often. being discouraged from places like Bloomingdale's and Victoria's Secret- i decided i would rightfully get fitted and see if La Petite Coquette can rescue me. indeed, they did.

i walked in when it looked like a monsoon in NYC. i told my sweater puppies, "let's just have a look-see, shall we?". i was buzzed in and greeted immediately by the staff. i quickly glanced around and from my double take... i knew i was in heaven. i wasn't really looking to buy anything. i just wanted to see what they offered and inquire if i was wearing the right size. i was a little shy and browsed around. i looked at the "pearl thong" and giggled to myself. oh, what the hell was i getting myself into?!

one of the associates approached me and asked if i've been fitted there before. i replied, no... she asked what size i wore and i whispered, "40 DD". she looked at another associate and they both shook their heads. "WHAT?!?! there's no way." then, she took me to the changing room. now- i know this sounds out of character... but i'm a little bashful about changing in front of stylists/shoppers/friends/family/basically EVERYONE with the exception of beaus. with her- i felt comfortable. she was there to help- not to judge or look at my "goods". she showed me how the bra i was currently wearing was CLEARLY not the right size... it was too big and the cup size was quadruple times too small. i was in total shock.

she handed me bras left and right. i looked at the tag and my small little asian eyes got big for a second.

i'm... a... 38-GG/H?!?!?!

What

The

F???????????????

i think i almost had a titty-attack. the girl smiled and informed me that i'm actually smaller around and needed a much bigger cup to hold my girls up. i tried on over 16 different bras and totally saw a difference. the other associates looked at me and exclaimed, "honey... who in the haiiiiiil told you to wear that ridiculous size?! your cup size was totally wrong!" i lowered my head in shame... but was instantly giggling again when i was given more sexy things to try on.

i'm picky. like... VERY picky. i like my steeze in an array of LUXURIOUS fabrics and detail, lace, silk, frilly and balconette/demi jump offs. i don't like minimizers and full coverage. i will rock novelty bras like 24/7. i despise contour/molded cup ones, too. the associate was ever-so considerate of my pickiness and chose exceptional styles for me. she even picked out each bra's bottom. from boyshort lace, bikini and thong- i liked that there were choices in a set. so, guess what? i literally had a personal shopping spree. i think i went a little overboard, too.

i know my credit card is crying its little heart out right now... after spending over $500 in a short 30 minute span, i had remorse for about 24 hours (because of their store-credit-only policy)- but realized this was a wise purchase. =)

Ahhh! I just spent $80 on a strapless bra! 4 stars for the staff and the sexiness, and the fact that I found a good strapless that fits well and is actually comfortable, minus one for the fact that they ONLY gave me $80 bras to try on. Could I have asked for a cheaper option? I'm sure, but would I have felt petty doing so in this place? Definitely.

Good to go to if you are like me - not sure what size you are anymore, pretty sure you might have been buying the wrong size for the last 5 years, fed up with wearing the wrong size and in desperate need of some help. At least now I know what I should be looking for (a bra half this price in the new, now-correct size).

This place helped me discover my true bra size and changed my life forever.  No more tugging on falling bra straps, digging underwire, or bad posture (when a bra fits well, you will find yourself standing up straighter).  The people who work there are very helpful and well trained.

The lingerie is beautiful but definitely pricey.   But it's worth it to invest in some good basic day-to-day pieces, and impress your man (or woman - no judgement!) with something classy and sexy.  If I could afford to shop here more often, I definitely would.

I went in this morning to find some lingerie to wear under my wedding dress.  I should have walked out without buying anything, but it's getting close and I'm sort of desperate.

I was definitely treated with an attitude and I felt like I could have gone anywhere to get what I needed.  I ended up walking out with a pair of Spanx.  I had some questions and called Spanx directly and they were more than happy to help when the saleslady was not.

Then, we were trying for bras.  I mentioned that while I was wearing the size I have now, I had concerns that it wasn't accurate.  Did they help me find my size?  No, they just threw me in a fitting room with 3 bras.  I was a little iffy about whether or not the bra actually fit in the strap, but was assured that it did and it would be fine.  Well, lo and behold, when I got home to try it on with the Spanx, it was painfully obvious that it indeed, did not fit the way it was supposed to - my concerns were pretty much well founded.  I wish I had spoken up more at the time, but I just wanted to get out of there quickly.  Ugh.  Won't be back.

I have to thank Yelp for steering me to this store. I'd heard about it many times before, but when it was time to have another fitting done, I really didn't feel like hauling ass up to the Town Shop (a very fine store, but waaaay out of my way).

The reviews here impressed me and I went armed with the LuxeNow coupon mentioned below. The young woman who helped me was not only very accurate and quick in finding my new size (losing some weight can be expensive!), but was very patient, as I am *very* particular about what I want and don't want.

The place has a fun atmosphere and even though the saleswoman who helped me didn't know anything about the LuxeNow coupon, she honored it anyway (I still would have bought without it, but it was a nice touch and ensures that I'll be back -- and have recommended the place to some of my fellow downtown friends who are also tired of hauling it up to the Upper West Side).

It's far from cheap at La Petite Coquette, but so worth it in both the quality of the products and the confidence in knowing you have the right fit.

I arrived panicky trying to find some kind of fix to help me with a strapless bridesmaid dress. I thought i knew what i wanted, but after one look at me the fabulous salesladies said i was totally in the wrong size....a 32D and not a 34B as i had worn for quite sometime (and i thought fit me fine). Shocked and in disbelief  I became a guinea pig and tried on a bunch of bras, strapless and such trying to solve my dress problem. In the end i walked out with a new basic convertible bra, a strapless which is actually sexy and not just functional and some fashion tape (as pretty as the strapless is, my mind needs to be soothed that the attendees of the wedding won't be seeing it accidentally).

Thanks so much for your support and patience Rachel and co. I'll be back!!

When I first walked in here, the first thing that came to me was the smell, which smelled like fresh baking. But it's so weird that you have to knock or ring the bell to go in. The lingerie was very sexy and the prices ranged from average to very-expensive. I don't know if the material would be good - if they would tear in just a few wears but they looked like pretty good materials to me.

This is a playhouse. My pretty, frilly, structured, lacy, silky, loving playhouse. These people have breast ESP. I always thought I was a 34 A and Kate (a pointy glasses wearing lady with a smart bob) took one look at me and said I was a 32. Yes! Do I love her...

Their selection is chosen by a tigress lady who wrote the book on lingerie. Literally.

HAHAHAHAHA. A ahem.

I could buy anything in that store and be so happy. I've never had buyer's remorse. Everything is hand picked out for your shape and style with a keen eye. Tigress lady would have nothing less.

I started the Master Cleanse today which means NO food for 10+ days.
Day 1 of the cleanse:  tired, hungry, moody. In need of a pick me up.

I decided to give myself and my weary bosom some lovely gifts today. since I can't feed the twins succulent solid food for the next 10 days I decided to adorn them with 2 decadent new bras..one lacey black demi cup made in France, the other a black plunge with blue and white embroidered flowers from Belgium. Both quite expensive (200+ for the two ) but well made, practical and best of all SEXY.

The staff is so helpful. Ask for Tanya who measured me...I didn't realize I was a 32 E until she did. I was wearing the wrong size all these years?  No wonder  the straps kept falling off my petite shoulders.

Pictures to come if I don't cut someone first!

I have always wanted to check out this store and today I finally went.  I wanted to pick up a nice bra as a little treat for reaching a milestone.  I walked up to the store and they buzzed me in.  The store is bigger than I expected.  The two ladies at the counter barely acknowledged my presence but I didn't care, I was determined to make a sweet purchase.  I went to the back when a sales associate named Jasmine helped me, I told her exactly what I was looking for and she gave me a sample bra to see how it fits.  She confirmed my bra size and gave me a couple of bras to try on.  Needless to say, I fell in love with two!!  I asked for the matching bottoms and decided on a set that I fell in love with.  The prices in the store are not cheap, but the fit was different than your average Victoria's Secret bra.  I felt these bras provided great coverage and they were sexy.  I went in that store to buy something for myself and I came out with what I wanted.  Jasmine made a comment about me coming back for the other set that I loved.  She was very helpful and friendly.  The actual place was very organized, but I have to say...the other women could have friendly, its their job to welcome the customers.  I walked out of the store excited about my purchase!

I bought my first piece of lingerie here back in the day; I was nervous and didnt know what I was doing and the ladies here were super nice and helped me out; dang, I didn't know what sexy was before that day!

I've walked past this place several times recently since moving back to the neighborhood, and I know that one day I will break down and walk in, kissing goodbye a few digits from my bank statement, but hey, sometimes you gotta bring sexy back :)

About three years ago my cup size outgrew victoria's secret. The only stores I knew that supplied my size were (on the West Coast, Nordstroms and Macys) and then out here I resigned myself to Lord and Taylors. By resigning myself I mean that all the bras available in my cupsize looked like something a grandmother would wear. No offense to my  deceased grandmothers. The worst part too was all of the bras would be "minimizing" and rarely did anything to show off my endowments. As melodramatic as it sounds, I often would leave department stores in frustrated tears, spending $75+ on a bra I didn't even like.

Enter, the New Yorker community on Livejournal. Someone mentioned the list of New York's best independent lingerie stores as per Time Out New York. LPC was listed as having cute styles in larger sizes, so I figured I'd give it a shot. VICTORY WAS MINE! Ellen (a store employee) was super sweet, resized me and found me a plethora of cute, sexy bras to try on. Yay! They were the exact same prices as the department stores too.

Also bonus, since I've been working on getting back in shape, Ellen said any bra purchased at the store they could cut down the band size to fit if it went down FOR FREE! (miracle words to a poor grad student)

LPC now has my business as long as I live in NYC. And perhaps if their shipping return policy remains amazing I'll continue to buy online when I return to the West Coast.

*The one heads up is when you come to the door, they buzz you in. It seemed to confuse a few people intially*

Ok, so Agent Provocateur may be intimidating to some. Here is your alternative. The second best lingerie shop in NYC is La Petite Coquette. Also French name, also not French, but quite a cool place to shop.

La Petite Coquette (http://www.thelittlefl...) is right on the NYU campus, yet its walls are covered with autographed pictures. It's  one of these places that get featured on Sex and the City, and where all the movie stars go to get quality lingerie with some privacy. Big deal.

Let's be honest, the very curvy girls (by that I mean above a D) will be disappointed if they are looking for sexy bras. You'll have the occasional Freya but usually it's the full cups "for the full support" they tell me  - aahm, thanks, but no thanks. To be fair they have some good E cups --- Aubade mostly, which is nice. But it's the classics, you know, Bahia and Tulipe. It's mostly about giving imported styles  to A - D girls.

You'll find comfort in the beautiful camisoles, however, and in the stockings, the makeup and the accessories... if you are into that, they have jimmyjane's "little gold precious metal vibrator" for instance. They also have shoes, blindfolds and games...it's cute.

Their store window may be a bit more discrete, but they are as naughty as A.P. They just take themselves too seriously without offering better products which gets on my nerves quite frankly, but given the scarcity of quality lingerie in NYC, I put up with it. I got a green silk camisole with black lace for $50... hello Velma Kelly. Yeah, you can show off. What the hell. Knock yourself out.

It's a lovely place to go as a couple if you're on the romantic side. For the fun, go to AP. It will cost you the same anyway.

La Petite Coquette is La Grande Snotty.

Maybe I was at the wrong store. I've been known to do that, especially on days I don't have my morning Chai Latte- but the staff was the furthest thing from nice and treated me and my very blessed chest with a level of disdain that is usually left for people who dare wear Red Sox hats in a Yankee city.  The store is very small ( I would say no more than 200-250 square ft on a good day) and the fitting rooms not quite as private as I would like them to be when my girls are being exposed. The store does smell nice and it has an impressive display of publicist influenced celebrity pictures.

If you wear a standard size (32-36 A-D) , you will find a large selection of very beautiful and very expensive pieces. Bra prices range from around $40-$50 for the basic grandma Wacoals to well over $100 for higher end brands like La Perla.  If you are outside this size, you best bet is to head uptown to Bra Smyth- which has a huge selection of bras in pretty much every size.

I wouldn't be complete in my review if I didn't mention that the store does sell lingerie, t-shirts, and other Knic-Knacks for about 20% more than you pay if you bought them online at store like http://figleaves.com

I've walked by La Petite Coquette a million times and I've never gone in-the windows are lovely, but it definitely looks expensive...and it is a bit expensive-a pair of panties can run about $40 on the low end. But as I recently found out, the price is definitely worth it! My boyfriend picked me up gifts for Hanukkah and my brithday, and these pieces are gorgeous, sexy and at the same time amazingly COMFORTABLE! I have a bra and a few pairs of boyshorts-all very Marllyn Monroe in style but completely modern in their comfort level. I never thought I'd wear such things under my daily clothes, but these pieces are both totally feminine and totally wearable. And did I mention the sexy factor? Talk about a stimulus package! Yowsa!

The 3 stars is for the value.  Granted, you're getting very nice lingerie but this is basically just a small little shop with a selection from a variety of names.  The sales people are very helpful but I don't agree that they can just size you up by looking at you.  They might have an idea of the range you wear but most experienced sales people, whether they're selling shoes or suits, should be able to do so.  It helps if you give them some guidance as to what you're looking for.  It also helps if you can explain in a few short sentences your personality.  That way they can start bringing you options that you might or might not have thought of.

Overall, I agree with everyone else that Agent Provocateur is better.

I have lost fifty pounds in the last year and felt it was time to get a new bra! I was a little nervous about going to a fancy lingerie shop, but was immediately put at ease by Monica, who worked with me to find just the right size and style which historically hasn't been easy.  I couldn't believe the difference the right size made on me - now I need a new haircut, new shoes, new clothes! Monica seemed genuinely happy with our success and that added to my experience. I went in a stranger and came out part of the family. I bought two perfect bras - for $70 each - but worth it!  and will definitely go back when I've lost the rest of my weight!

Four stars because the people who walk here are unbelievably nice.  They def. cater to all your needs.  I've never been one for lingerie and def. not expensive lingerie, so I didn't buy anything...but I'd go here instead of Victoria's Secrets just because the people who work at VS can be a bit stuck-up...and I don't really like those huge posters they post all over their shop...no, I don't have a body like Giselle's...but jeez, you don't need to remind me so blatanly.

hands down, best selection of frilly things for, uh, chestier but still petite women (i'm sure its nice for the less endowed as well...). my first visit was for a strapless bra for under a bridesmaid dress--a nightmare scenario in my book. but the sales staff was extraordinarily helpful and not at all pushy-- the woman helping me sized me up within a second; turns out i've been wearing the wrong size for the last 15 years or so. they also turned me on to the sloggi seamless panties and the genius that is the hanky panky thong. anyway, i've sent many, many friends there for strapless bras and otherwise. and their significant others have thanked me for it...

This is a really great place. It is not everywhere that has larger size bras in pretty styles and different cuts. Here I had to choose! Everything they brought me fit perfectly. It was such a great change from VS or department stores. The prices can be a little high but the quality and service are outstanding. Plus they have a nice waiting couch.
