Came over after a heavy night of drinking @ Club Foot & Moonshine. My buddy Dylan said this was the best version of the "Dita Triad" (I had previously tried the one right across the street). We waltzed in and it was semi-packed @ 2AM (expected). We decided to sit down and have a bite so I ordered the steak burrito which was ready in a jiffy. Scarfed it down pretty quick after squirting green sauce into it (yum). It soaked up the alcohol I had been drinking. As I made it to my girl's apt she told me I reeked of burrito. The next morning I puked it all up.
Well worth it!!!!
This is the La Pasadita Express one, right? It's so confusing. I hoped to find out beforehand which one was the "good one" but didn't have time. I was trying to fill my belly before a trip downtown; to create a good base for drinkin', ya' know?
This place has a little counter you eat at and not much more space than that. They have TV stands on the walls without any TVs...maybe since DTV? I may have gotten swine flu from the cute little kid next to me coughing up a lung, I dunno, it feels like it lately.
Their menu is completely devoid of ingredients, so I had no idea what all went on a burrito when they asked me "Con Todo?" Well what is "everything", exactly? But a quick "Sin tomates, con aquacate" can always pull me through in a pinch. The burrito came back chock full of lettuce, cheese, onions (nice touch), avocado, and carne asada. The carne was well-seasoned, slightly fatty, but not bad.
It was good for a drinking base. Now, which one is the "good one"?
Visited this place one more time.....Great burritos but the cloth they use to wipe up the food preparation area, where your food is prepared was so filthy and dirty, I wouldn't wash my toilet bowl with the cloth they felt comfortable enough to use to clean up their food counter.
D I S G U S T I N G! A health hazzard waiting to happen.

The horchata sucks. FOr some reason the machine that churns that stuff wasn't working and I had to drink that swill. Ugh. Plus when I sat down there was gum on the seat. Yuck. No.
Still that roasted salsa there is quite the YUM!

Food - GREAT
Simply put... this is one of the good Mexican joints south of North Ave. (Garcia's in… Read more »
I've said it before and I'll say it again: One of the worst burritos I've ever had in my life. I came here a looooooooooooooong time ago and thought it was insane to see so many drunk zombies basically inhaling this slop. I recently decided to give it a second chance and after ordering two burritos (one vegetarian...for some reason that means poblano to them and a barbacoa, los dos con todo.) Five minutes later I get back one burrito, I'm out seven dollars!?! I order the other one and another six dollars are gone. We get home, I rip open that sucker and grease everywhere. Where the eff is my todo? Only cilantro and onions. Take one bite and your face is glistening from grease splash. WORST BURRITO EVER. Go to La Traspasada or De Pasada or Dona Natys.
WHA !!! Ukranian Village Some one better look at the United States Post Off ice located at the rear of La Pasadita it's WICKER PARK - 60622 - Not Ukranian Village - - - - Uki Village ends at - Damen Ave Sheesh you developers next they will say Humbolt Park is Logan Square or Bucktown - Garfield ???
ok, I have had better
Great steak and awesome lengua! Tacos served so fast I have had them in front of me before that stupid woman can count my change.. 5 stars for sure!
This is now the most expensive burrito in town. A handwritten Sharpie sign on the register, more ransom note than word to the wise, reads, "The price of meat went up". It feels more psychotic than that, though, like: "HI. pRise of MEet went uP". And now a burrito and a can of Coke is nearly ten bucks. UN FUCKING CONSCIONABLE. Yeah, these steak burritos are so good you want to be alone with them. But fuck you, I was raised on shitty Mexican and will return to it. I don't need amazing mouthwatering cocaine-rubbed carne asada. I'll take the cheap shit, thank you very much, and let SALSA do its thing!

Everyone knows that PASADITA EAST has the best steak tacos in the city. But not everyone knows that… Read more »
Ok, I know many of you will disagree with me. These are good tacos but not great tacos. The tacos are a not stuffed like other taco places, Zaca, Paco's and a few others. The hot sauce was not what I prefer. I like the red sauce. This place has a smokey black hot sauce. It was good but not what I prefer. The coke was warm but to be fair I think it's because they have so much business they can't keep the soda in the cooler long enough to get cold.
What I liked, the meat was juicy and in big pieces in the taco. The green hot sauce was some of the best I have had, quick service.
I'd rather go to Zaca Tacos on the south side.
This was it . Mono y mono. La Pasadita vs. El Pasado. If you take a minute to read the El Pasado reviews, you'd think this battle of the titans was more like Rocky V. El Pasado is the young, tough, good-looking supposedly unbeatable Tommy Gunn. And in walks an aging Rocky Balboa (La Pasadita) on his last legs. Rocky's barely got anything left in the tank. He's washed up they say. No way Balboa can take down Tommy Gunn, right? Wrong.
Believe me, this wasn't the way we drew it up. My friend and I headed to El Pasado initially without even planning to go to La Pasadita. Based on all we had heard, El Pasado was the new taco king in town. Dining at La Pasadita would be living in the past. So we sat down and each ordered three El Pasado tacos -- carnitas, carne asada, and barbacoa. We gave this purported new champion a shot. Three shots to be exact. And it was good...but not great. The kind of place we were happy that we tried, but we wouldn't go out of our way to find this place again. We were instead left longing for more.
Feeling unsatisfied, we left El Pasado and fought the urge to head home. We weren't giving up this easily on our taste for tacos. So we turned to Rocky. We turned to La Pasadita (for the newcomers out there, you've probably heard there's three of them -- we went to the odd man out. The lonely store across the street. Its mere isolated presence was begging for us). Full from our binge at Pasado, we only ordered one carne asada taco each. And that one taco -- that one little piece of steak heaven -- DOMINATED El Pasado and ranks as one of the best tacos I've ever had. Period. The steak was fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. Three tacos at El Pasado didn't hold a candle to the glory that was the La Pasadita Carne Asada taco.
Forget what you read on the El Pasado page. La Pasadita is king. As Rocky says, "Hey Tommy, I didn't hear no bell." This fight isn't over. The old man still has plenty of life in him.
This is one of the better inexpensive mexican food places in chicago.
The meat they use is high quality and really well flavored.
This is not a place to go for atmosphere. This is a quick bite to eat at a cafateria style table.
They do bring you chips and 3 kinds of salsa. One of which is an amazing grilled pepper (i think that's what it is) salsa. Its the dark green one.
I'm partial to the super burrito. Amanda is partial t the tacos.
The Barbacoa meat is the best as long as you don't mind a little fat. The steak is also great. I wouldn't go for the chicken but the red meats are damn good.
I also really like the orchata but it is not better or different than most other mexican places.
I've had taco burrito palace, taco burrito king etc etc and Pasadita is definitely a step above.
You can really tell its good because they are successful enough to have 3 locations right next to each other and still make money.
I prefer the south western locale, (I believe its this address) which has tables. The express, just north has the same meat just less selection.
This good for a late night drunk excursion or for a quick meal when your hungry and in the mood for real mexican.
It is pretty inexpensive and the food comes at you fast.
Best damn burritos in the city. Period. Been coming here since I was a little kid. Still love it! In the mood for tacos and burritos?...you've come to the right place. No frills, just thrills...with food. Get your food and get the hell out. Don't complain about how the ambience is not adequate and that the parking is inconvenient. Shut up!
Yes, they put cilantro in your burritos and tacos...live with it, you whiny, picky little princess toes.
This is a quick and easy place to grab some good food at cheap prices. If you want to sit down, go across the street...same owner.
Highly recommended for the authenticity of flavors.
Best steak burrito and chorizo taco in Chicago- without a doubt.
This place is down the street from my office and I probably eat her no less than 3 times a week. It's affordable, I love the staff, and I absolutely love the food.
If you like Mexican you need to go here- often!
This is probably my favorite Mexican place in the city, In terms of speed and quality of food: perfect. Their tacos are simple, just cilantro and onions. They don't try and pile on a bunch of second rate ingredients like most places in the city do. And yes, it is greasy, but not overbearingly so. I notice some people on here complain about the restaurant's cleanliness. Listen, This isn't fine dinning, it's a Mexican fast food restaurant. What do you expect? your tacos to float on a white cloud of purity to you? I've seen worse (i.e. flash taco). The level of cleanliness is on par with similar establishments around the city. I like this location the best specifically because it has great character. The inside is small and painted a vibrant yellow. Plus, they have an arcade game in there. And who doesn't like playing arcade games and eating tacos? The one across the street has multiple arcade games, so sometimes I'll go to that one after I'm done eating (yes, I am a nerd). I also have to give them props for using a starbucks style marketing strategy for good and not evil. They have three locations in one block, each one is different and cool in its own way. Like I said, this is a great place, make sure to check it out.
I eat mexican food more than any other white person I know. Seriously. Its impressive. With that said, when i moved to this neighborhood, I was really excited with all the different mexican options around. As for fast Tacos or Burritos, Pasadita is number one. by far.
You need to go to the EAST La Pasadita. The first time i went in, my friend tried to order something other than a taco or burrito and they sent us across the street to the sit down La Pasadita restaurant. It was NOT the same. I didnt know any better. they must keep all the best steak on the east side.
that steak is what keeps me coming back for more. but whats even better about the EAST La Pa is that they give you a couple of options on toppings. While i love mexican food, i do not like the classic style taco or burrito with meat onion and cilantro only. So its a bonus that here, you can add cheese, sour cream, and freshly sliced tomato.
they have other meat on the menu, but nothing other than tacos and burriots. you cant go wrong with the steak, and i think the barboca is good too. and dont snooze on the sauce. the sauce is boss. they call it green sauce because its so money!
I usually one of the La Pasaditas on the other side of the street, but this one was empty the other night when I pulled up so I thought I'd give this another whirl.
I ordered a few steak tacos to go and was in and out in 5 minutes. Hard to beat that, and I know if I was across the street I'd probably still have been ordering and waiting.
Their steak tacos here are great. I've had more filling tacos elsewhere (though you an still easily take the second corn tortillo to make two tacos out of one!), but these were pretty top notch in the taco world.
...and as far as why there are 3. these people are marketing geniuses. be it on purpose or accidentally, they have to find it hilarious if nothing else.... but consider that if there were just one they'd be just some other random taqueria... having 3 makes them memorable and people talk about it like it's some marvel...
This place is amazing. Since my boyfriend live across the alley from this place, I end up here quite a bit. It's consistently greasy, salty, delicious, and filling, no matter the time of day or level of intoxication.
The people that come here range from church-going families to completely drunken bar people. Then there's me somewhere in between.
Two steak, one chile relleno, with a side of sour cream.
mmm
This is the first time I won't feel bad for giving a 2 star rating, since everyone seems to be in love with this place and my rant below will not affect business...
First of all, let me rant about how disappointed I am in La Pas... Maybe it was the overwhelmingly positive reviews that had my expectations too high, but I went in on 3 separate occasions, (1st to the smallest on the east side which is known to have the best taco's, then to the other 2 on the west side of ashland) and I was underwhelmed each time. Although I can see why they do well, (good portions of steak, open very late, etc) I had a problem, specifically, with the meat itself. (Which is a huge problem considering the authentic Mexican taco is simply the meat and onions with some cilantro...)
Most carne asada taco's use skirt steak I assume, which is a great cut of beef for it's thinness and beefy flavor. However the problem with skirt steak is in it's preparation, it's usually covered in a filmy membrane/ligaments that need to be cut off for optimal chewiness. On all 3 occasions at La Pas the meat tasted somewhat greasy and moreover, rubbish... I opened my taco's on several occasions to find that many of the cube sized bits of skirt steak were poorly cut, many were all if not mostly fat or ligament, which led to the "rubbery" taste when I began chewing. Not to mention there was no char on the meat or any burnt or crispy edges which would have been nice. The color of some of the carne asada looked almost undercooked in some instances, and every several pieces were, as I said, mostly fatty or engulfed in that stretchy ligament.
Maybe this rant will sound overly picky but if I want rubbery steak I can go to many 24 hour Chinatown establishments and order some rubby pepper steak, the point is that how can this be the best steak taco in chicagoland viewing from the consensus here and elsewhere, if the meat isn't up to par in terms of the preparation?
Also, I understand that La Pas is a hole in the wall kind of place (esp the smallest on on the east side) which is fine, but on each occasion I saw flies all over the place and the decor, if you could even call it that, was somewhat disgusting to say the least, not to mention that it's so stuffy inside could they please get a fan or something to get some air ventilation? A fan, simple interior paint job and some basic, overall cleanliness would do wonders to wet my appetite.
Interestingly enough, I went to Las Asadas (which I hear is owned by the same family), and didn't experience this problem on the 2 occasions I went, (maybe their carne is just cut into smaller cubes) and they seemed to cook it better in terms of the meat having some crispy edges instead of at La Pas where it seemed almost broiled in some instances.
There are 2 or 3 of the same restaurants on the corner of Ashland and Division in Chicago and they all taste the same, delicious! It's cheap and perfectly harmonious and fresh ingredients. There's nothing fancy about it, just straight up best tacos and burritos. Their sauces are amazing as well so don't skip out on that. I usually get mine with some flavor Jarrito or orchata and there's nothing better especially at 2 am to cure that late night hunger after drinking.
This is simply a gem, enough said!
Hella good noms!
I go here occasionally for lunch since I work sorta near by. I have to go at an off time or it's a little crowded and I can't get in and out as fast as I need to.
La Pasadita has the best steak tacos I've ever had in the city. They're huge, too and stuffed with SO much meat! I've only ever had the tacos (and the super taco which is really basically three tacos in one... trust me, it's GIGANTIC).
Ah-mazing steak tacos. Seriously, go get some. Now.
Oh, and it is a little confusing that there are a number of these restaurants all together on the street (three, I think). We always go to the one where you can sit down (on the West side of Ashland). Efficient service, but really, you're there for the food, so who cares about that other stuff. Cheap and delicious. My favorite two words.
I didn't see the big, dead roach on the floor until after I paid for my take-out burrito and was walking out the door. I did end up eating the burrito, with some serious trepidation. Haven't been back since.
My boyfriend says seeing a roach in a restaurant means the food will be good.
I disagree with him on this.
I noticed Colleen C.'s review and that she had been to this Pasadita on a date. When I was there, there were at least two dates going on (and this place only holds about ten people anyway!) Apparently this is THE spot for a date (unless you're Colleen C.)
Yes, this is the tiny Pasadita as opposed to the one with the more, ahem, formal dining room or the one that seems to never actually be open.
This one is my new favorite, though. All the locations are somewhat gritty, but this one manages to get down to the nitty gritty, so to speak. It makes the tacos taste that much better. Actually, I have a friend who claims to not like Mexican food, but loves La Pasadita. These tacos are, in fact, a revelation. No excuses, then. Get down there. Get a taco (or three). Bring a date. Bring me! These tacos are all I need to love you forever.
Is it possible to date a taco?
salty a$$ burritos
A guy took me on a date here once. Yes, a real date...and we weren't in college.
For those of you familiar with the ambiance, let me just say...it was the best part of the date. The tacos helped dull the urge to bolt out onto Ashland Avenue and be struck by a bus.
Yes, the date was bad. But, hell...those were some damn good tacos.
Love coming here for a late night snack - - especially after an evening of drinks.
Not much of a menu at this location - - most everyone seems to get the steak tacos with onions and cilantro. And not a pretty establishment by any stretch of the imagination. But those steak tacos...yum!
I am absolutely in love with this Mexican joint. A friend brought me to La Pasadita about 4 or 5 months ago and I have been going at least once a week ever since. I'm addicted to the flavor they are serving up.
I grew up on fake, American/Mexican food. I had never had so many authentic Mexican restaurants to choose from until moving to Chicago and this place is the best by far. The food is delicious, it is fairly clean, and the waitresses are all very nice and polite when I completely butcher the names of the menu items (still working on the Espanol).
I usually order the Tampiquena with a side of two tacos- add cheese and sour cream, and two diet cokes to wash it all down. This is a lot of food and I can handle it all. The food is tasty, authentic, and filling. I have never been myself but I hear this place stays open pretty late for the drunk crowd and the food is just perfect for a hung over afternoon lunch.
Love this joint, just not real clear on why there are three of the same restaurant on a single block of Ashland. Could they be that popular?
This place is smaller and has more of an ethnic clientele compared to its neighbors of the same name across the street. It's the same food but somehow just tastes better. (Maybe they can put in more mojo since there is less traffic?) Go for the steak tacos, which are quite good with onion and cliantro and their salsa verda. I added cheese, which made my food all the more tasty and filling. You may have to sit at the "bar" since there is limited seating, but when I'm drunk good tacos trump table seating.
Totally solid tacos, burritos, salsa. The restaurant itself is the quintessential hole in the wall with service to match.
Overall, a safe bet for average Mexican fast food if you're in the area, but not worth going out of your way for it.
I haven't read all the reviews, but can someone tell me why there are three La Pasadita restaurants all next to each other? I've seen two, but three? That is definitely a first. I'm not even sure I'm reviewing the right place...
$2 tacos - not bad for late night grub. I usually order carne asada tacos, but the steamed beef one was good too! It was juicy, and the shreds of beef just melted in my mouth. I'm missing my orange sauce from La Victoria in SJ though! Betty, where are you when I need you for late night Mex food?
This would be a 2.5 Stars if it were an option. Living right down the block from this place (or should I say "places" as there are 3 right next to each other) I really want to love this place(s). Unfortunately it exists in that 'good but not great' space, which in Chicago, is restaurant no-man's-land.
I've heard that Nic Cage loves this place and hits it up every time he's in town after a night of boozing (clad in his Elvis inspired shiny shirts). And that is what this place is best known for. Late night drunk dining.
Don't get me wrong, it is much better than say, Taco Bell, but no one should really go out of their way to frequent the place unless you happen to already be in the neighborhood. The tortas are solid and the tostadas are slightly above average. I walk by it on the way home from work everyday and love the smell of the freshly cooked meat, though that good feeling is often ruined by the ner-do-wells who are hanging around outside. Ambience is non-existent (which hardly matters at 2 am) and you are certainly at an advantage when you order if you speak fluent Spanish.
Essentially this place is the Mexican version of Weiner Circle, minus the swearing, kitsch and killer cheese fries. Come here drunk, leave full and a bit queasy. Weather the queasiness stems from the booze or the food is for you to decide.
Mmm...greasy steak burrito. I'm gonna miss having this down the block when I move.
Also, WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE THREE ON THE SAME BLOCK?! Two of them have the exact same menu, even! Are people really so lazy when they go for their burritos that they can't walk across Ashland for it? Come ON people!
I only ever go to the two steak burrito ones. I prefer the one on the west side of the street (the one I'm posting this review to), simply because they usually have sour cream on hand unlike the east side variant, and the girls behind the counter seem to know my order now after having patronized the place for over a year.
The menu is simple, but the food tastes great!
Seriously, anyone who's had a burrito remotely near CA, can appreciate this place. Born and bred eaters of Chipotle won't get it because there's no clean frills or presentation, and it was never owned by McDonald's.
WARNING: There are 3 locations to this place, and the quality does vary as well as selection. The big restaurant one with sit-down/wait service is the only one I'll eat it because:
1. They have wait service.
2. They ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS (this is so friggin crucial as their other locations don't take them).
3. They have free salsa/chips. This salsa selection is some of the best salsa, pico de gallo, and mole (?) sauce I've ever eaten.
4. They offer a full menu from paradilla to their ultimate burrito of which only a few people were able to finish as well as a vegetarian and full range of meats option.
DO NOT sell yourself short and judge their establishment by their other locations unless you want the gritty street vendor style burrito of LA.
The Super Burrito here is the closest thing I've had in Chicago to an SF Mission Burrito. It's delicious, and I strongly recommend the carne asada, al pastor, or barbacoa. Those are their specialty meats, and for the sake of everyone, try it with the cilantro and onions. They're absolutely essential to the carne asada if you want the taste that makes us burrito-heads into addicts.
They also offer up the Southern CA specialty burrito of meat, cilantro, onions, and no beans/rice; it's just an aromatic blend of the bare necessities.
PS. Paradilla is a mountain of meat served family style. It's an intense experience for those of you who've never tried it, and I love it.
Having lived in the neighborhood for years, and feeling guilty for passing up the authentic taqueria experience for more frou frou gentrified establishments (i.e. the chipotle-fied picante tacqueria) I felt like it was time to finally stop on in.... and boy was that a mistake. The carne asada burrito certainly looked tasty, but looks can certainly be deceiving. The meat was barely chewable, and the rest of the grade D ingredients were bland and tasteless, except for the spicy salsa sauce, which salvaged the mess for me by deadening my tongue so that I could cram the food into my gullet. Another mistake because I felt seriously ill the rest of the night, even though the iron vice grip of my stomach can usually handle a a couple bowls or curdled milk with ease.
Everyone else seems to like it. Perhaps I picked the wrong restaurant of the 3 - though other reviewers claim its all the same stuff essentially. Perhaps its that 'authentic' aspect that the establishment possesses which confers a gritty 'realness' to a person's meal that garners La Pasadita so many rave reviews. All I know is I ain't gonna be goin' back.
I love the burritos and fajitas here.
Wasn't a huge fan of the chicken torta.
I like the variety of salsas/sauces they give you a the table.
Take-out can be something of a bitch - I've had long waits before - but oh well, its worth it.
Okay, okay, we get it! You're the taco king! Ooooh!
La Pasadita puts out a good product, and with multiple locations along Ashland and late late hours, they've cinched the crown, I concede that.
The Tacos are all pretty great, and if you're veg, the super taco and super burrito (with everything) are great choices, as is the Chile Relleno taco. Cops eat here, so you know it's good. Homeless guys also eat here, so you, um, know it's . . . good?
Wash it down with a large horchata and roll your ass home, you drunkard!
Cosas Positivas: cheap, tasty, BYOB, makes Ashland smell tasty.
Cosas Negativas: Service (it's distressing when you're trying to place a take out order and the staff are all talking when each other just a few feet away instead of acknowledging you), they often get orders mixed up, handling food and register without washing hands.
If you go, order the carne asada burrito with onions and cilantro.
Once it hits your lips...it's so good. You may feel inclined to immediately order another one then tear off your clothes and streak N. Ashland.
Much like anything else in our fair city, La Pasadita is much more than its exterior suggests. The money clearly goes into the food around here. This place has been consistently rated as one of the best taco stands in the city, and I have to agree. Burritos and the rest are great too. The tacos come the way they're supposed to be made - carne asada, cebolla, y cilantro. Nothing more nothing less. It's open late, and they've started delivering for lunch too - but I haven't gotten lazy enough to try it, I'm only blocks away from this place.
There are in fact, three locations - you could call them the holy trinity of taco stands if you wish, I do.
Here's a quick guide:
"The little yellow shack" referred to below (On the east side of Ashland) is the original - couple of stools and a counter. This is where you want to go for the tacos/burritos straight up to go. I think they taste the best here.
The big one on the west side of Ashland (furthest south) is the best if you want to sit down. They have the widest selection compared to the other two - parilladas and other platters are all worth trying at some point. Plus they have more salsas - Do try the black salsa, it's worth a taste (it gives the chicken a nice kick). Note: order takeout from here and you'll wait forever.
The third (Northmost on the west side of Ashland) has sit down/counter service. Menu here is limited. Burritos/tacos seem a bit greasier here - best left for after a long night at the bars. However, in my experience the horchata has been a bit better here for some reason.
So there you have it. It's a great place for tacos. Seriously. Worth trying.
The three stars are strictly for the horchata. Normally I can't stand horchata, but it was badass from La Pasadita.
Minus two stars for the food. One star for the luke warm carne asade they served me. The flavor of the steak was spot on, but the consistency was chewy and full of gristle. Another star for the crappy corn tortillas the tacos came in. One was so wet it had adhered to the paper lining of my tray and fell apart when I picked it up.
I smell this place anytime I'm within a 5-block radius, so I'm sure I'll go back, but I'll be steering clear of the carne from now on.
**On a side note, it was nice to walk into a Mexican place without hearing a flock of frat guys try out their freshly learned and poorly pronounced Spanish on the waitresses. As a rule, if you've ever had to purchase sunblock, don't try to order in Spanish. Unless you've lived in Mexico for more than a year at some point in your life, then it's cool.
After an exhausting day of apartment hunting, we went to La Pasadita for a snack. And by snack, I mean FREAKING HUGE plate of food! We ordered the quesadilla nortena. It was simple: Oaxacan white cheese in a huge fried corn tortilla, served in a mildly spicy red sauce.
SImple and delicious. Go there. Please. Coming from NYC (where Mexican food SUCKS), this is just what I needed. You need it too.
