We came here for a late lunch last Saturday. The Argentinian pizza was very tasty. Nice, thin crust, ham, green olives, roasted red peppers and chimichurri. I had the veggie sub: a nice warm roll with spinach, mushrooms, peppers and onion with melted mozzarella. The veggies were very fresh and seemingly steamed? No oil, which was fine by me! It would have been really outstanding with a side of marinara to dip into...I will ask for that next time. That or even a pesto sauce to moisten things would have been great.
We came at a very odd time, around 3:30pm, so we were the only customers the whole time we were there. Still, the ambiance was comfortable and the 80's soundtrack pleased me!
We'll be back!
I like the lunch special here. Two topping pizza, house salad, and a drink for less than $10.
Sometimes I dine in and it's such a pleasant spot to eat alone and read. It's never empty, just a quiet atmosphere.
Yay! I'm a fan.
Pretty good. Decent pizza, but didn't hit it out of the park for me.
The guy at the counter was cordial, but a bit cold. Would have loved to hear some recommendations from him or at least a smile.
We ate outside and had the spinach salad, which was doused in balsamic dressing and the cheese strips seemed like they had cut up slices of cheese into thin strips to add it to the salad. It was tolerable, but I wouldn't go for it again. The NY style pizza is good, but Speederia Pizza in San Carlos is true NY Pizza. Don't be fooled by this place. The Argentinian pizza wasn't that unique. The ingredients for our pizza seemed more out of a can than fresh -- and why would you do that when the Farmer's Market takes place just BLOCKS away? Ah well.
It's decent for a slice on the go, but save your big bucks for a real crispy NY crust and classic toppings.
Another day, another pizza.
Now that I work in Downtown San Jose I get to explore new places to eat and visit old places that I haven't been to in a while. This is one of my old standbys. I don't like thin crust pizza, but I really like the pizza here. The lunch special is a good deal and its nice to sit down and eat to get out of the office. Service is fast and the workers are nice too. It totally helps that the pizza isn't all greasy either. Good food and sports on TV, you can't beat that!
I thought their pizza was terrible. Perhaps because I just returned from the East Coast after eating wonderful pizza, but the pizza I had from them today was extremely salty and lacking in sauce. I drank about 5 glasses of water in the afternoon, because the pizza had made me so thirsty. I noticed that it was also very oily and greasy too. Not a fan.
Meh.
This place could have been just another pizza joint... but it was still A-OK.
Came here for my friend's birthday lunch. We tried a few of their appetizers: fries, buffalo wings, garlic cheese bread and calamari. Nothing was really that special, but the calamari was pretty good. It had just the right amount of batter and flavor. The garlic bread seemed a little bland for the amount of cheese it seemd to have.
Thier extra large pizzas are SERIOUS! It was about the size of one of their small tables stretching 18 inches across! We gave their Grilled Chicken and La Nostra Combo a try. The grilled chicken came with chicken, tomatoes, pesto, garlic and roasted red pepers, but the pesto and garlic taste were extremely lacking. The combo came with pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, bell peppers and sausage. Very basic stuff. Nothing too special.
This place as some lunch specials that are under $10, which is nice. They also serve pasta for those who aren't feeling like pizza. But I'm not really jumping at the chance of coming back. I'll go somewhere else for my pizza fix.
I haven't been here in a while, so I'm going on past experience.
Let me tell you. It makes me sad to see a restaurant with good food and nice people empty every time I walk by while getting some walking in before class.
People you got to check this place out.
It's daunting the first time, since it's so spacious and well..empty, but believe me suck it up and try out the place. It's definitely worth it.
The pizzas are great, and their hot sandwiches are even better. Yummm...hot eggplant parmigiana panini.
Take a big group of friends with you, there's plenty of space at this place.
Found this place on Yelp. Second to Slice of New York, this place definitely has the best New York Style Pizza. The crust is super thin and crispy which was great. After the order was put in, I can see the pizza guy hand tossing the dough which was cool. There is a certain texture that the pizza crust gets from hand tossed instead of the machine that gives it that right amount and crisp and airiness. An X-Large fed 4 hungry men. Employees are friendly and the atmosphere is really nice, comfy, really roomy and sports are always on. That place is always empty for some reason. If you want the good New York Style pizza and dont mind spending a lil more and want a good place to sit and eat at, La Nostra is the place to be.
Happy Grubbing!
La Nostra's is on our company's regular lunch rotation, so obviously we dig this place. It is one of the better pizza places around downtown, and is one of the few places where we can go and not have to spend a fortune.
That's really an issue with downtown for me, most of the restaurants are either too pricey, too douchey and kind the kind of upsacale that makes me wonder who exactly the intended audience is.
La Nostra is a good place to eat, period. It's what we need more of downtown, low-key with quality products.
The Pizza is a wonderful New York style thin crust pizza. The sandwiches I have had are all good, in particular the eggplant sandwich really tastes like these guys know what they are doing (you have to prepare eggplant a certain way or it is bitter).
Sp, give this place a try. You won be disappointed.
It's not bad for lunch. As mentioned previously it's a nice quiet place to grab lunch. I got the pizza special and my friend got the calzone. Service is pretty fast, the food quality was pretty good. It's 2 toppings, plus a salad, plus a drink, which is decent. Though everything was a little smaller than I thought it would be. Overall, quality was passable, but not spectacular. Good for a quick, quiet bite, but aside from that, nothing worth raving about.
This isn't the bloated papa john crap that you can get any any pizza place.
The pizza here is consistently good and extremely flavorful. In fact, I would go so far as to call this pizza gourmet. The crusts are thin and flaky, but packed with seasoning.
My recommendation is the Argentine. This pizza contains delicious roasted peppers, green olives, ham, cheese and chimichurri, a flurry of seasonings consisting of oregano, olive oil, parsley, paprika, salt, and garlic- a concoction which originates from Argentina.
I paired this pizza with an antipasta salad which was also delectable. The main ingredients included ham, salami, olives, lettuce, provolone and mixed with a homemade Italian dressing which tasted like it had some olive oil and other seasonings.
Lastly, they always have some form of sports on one of their two big-screens, typically soccer, which I love. The place isn't very busy the few times I've dined there and the owners are extremely gracious.
Highly recommended if you enjoy delicious pizza.
This place deserves an update, I came here again with the same friend, and I noticed the guy giving me a strange look when we walked in that I shrugged off.
This time I ordered the same thing, but my friend got a mushroom and sausage pizza. When we served our food, they guy thanked me for my yelp review! He actually remembered my face and actually take the time to read these reviews, so kudos to him! After he served us the food, I asked my friend who comes there all the time for lunch if he was the owner, and he said him and the other guy making the pizzas in the back co-owned the place. I thought that was a cool and personal touch to our evening, which is why I felt obligated to write about it!
Also, my friend let me try a slice of his pizza and damn, it was pretty tasty, I need to go back now and order a whole pie next time I am downtown SJ!

Favorite pizza place in Bay Area!
Fresh ingredients, perfect crust, kids love it too!

Food here is just average. I had one of those pasta dish. Service is good though and the place used to be the Dog House Gourmet Hotdogs...so the place is really nice...brick wall with flat panel televisions and high ceiling...very cool.
***order your food where the cash register is and it will be then serve at your table
I went to chill with my friend downtown and had some beer and eats. Not too shabby. I had a Stella and some garlic bread, and it was tasty. They're open a bit latter than some other joints so I was happy about that.
Not exactly fine-dining but it was a cool place to chill with your peeps at and have some beers and eat some decent Italian fare.
What a great find-- even though it's not hard to find at all. Located in the center of downtown San Jose, this is the perfect place to have a quick bite for dinner before hanging out around town.
The spinach salad is the best! We shared a salad and a small pizza and it was the perfect portion.
Delicious thin crust pizzas. I don't even like thin crust pizzas, but here I'll make an exception..
The crust is crisp like a cracker, but not dry at all. Sauce is great. I had the grilled chicken special , and overall it was very satisfying. I wish they put more veggies on it to balance out the cheese. Garlic was a just a tad undercooked, which caused a couple of bites to be spicy.
They have some beers on tap, which is a definite plus (I only remember wheat beer and Sierra Nevada). Co-worker ordered some fried cheesesticks and jalapeno poppers. Fried mozzarella wasn't up to par, but how good can it get anyway? Jalapeno peppers were surprisingly good - crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside with some spice.
Will definitely be returning.
One of the owners is from Italy and one of the owners is from Argentina. They have one of the best Pizza's in San Jose and the best pizza in Downtown San Jose. Give them a visit.
It was my first time there, so I am not 100% sure about this place.
I will be going back soon to check out the sandwiches.
I had cheese and pepperoni slices. Good size, crispy thin crust. Good taste.
Can't wait to go back.
Went here after wandering San Jose in 90 degree heat to find some AC! We came to find that it was hotter than maybe even the outside temp but we were the only people in there and the manager showed us where we could sit by the vent and he turned on the AC just for us. We thought this was awesome! Really nice employees and liked the flat screens on the wall. We shared a small 4 meat pizza and 2 hefeweizens, which pretty much made our day! I will definitely be going back here!
I have to be completely honest. I didn't care for the all meat pizza that I tried here. It was a big, greasy mess. Service was good though. I work downtown so I will be back to try something else.
Good Pizza, good service. The cheese is good here, get your pizza with some extra cheese ;-)
I was sober when I ate here, having just driven down from the city. Their pizza is really good. Thin hand-made crust tastes fantastic, ingredients taste fresh & real. Fairly priced pitchers of beer, including Sierra. Big screen tv's. Perfect for Sharks pregame or any other arena event.
This place is really good. The only reason why it gets 4 stars is it's price. Butg the flip to that is they pour on the toppings and they take care of you. Excellent crust and the crust is 75% make it or break it.
Just had dinner there tonight.
Considering the usual pizza in Cali, this was pretty good!
Out of our party of 4, 3 people ordered personal pizzas and I ordered a calzone. Everyone seemed to enjoy their pizza (something along the lines of "not great but good compared to the rest around here")
My calzone was pretty good too! I got one with mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes. the crust was tasty and the dipping sauce was too. My only real complaint was that there was no ricotta in it (which I'm used to) and too many sun-dried tomatoes compared to mushrooms.
I had bought a coupon/gift certificate from http://restaurant.com, so bringing that into the equation it was worth it and I may want to go back again next time I'm in downtown San Jose.
I've been coming here for the thin crust pizza. I usually get plain or with pepperoni. The crust comes out nice with a medium crunch...not soggy like Amichi's after one slice. The guys that work there are friendly and always greet me by name upon arrival. I've brought friends over once or twice and they loved it too! I try to come down here before watching the Sharks or Niners game for some tasty pizza!
I've gone to La Nostra a few times for lunch and all in all it's a very solid pizza place. I enjoy their pizza more than their calzones, which I felt were a bit too bready for me, although very large. If you're in San Jose around lunch and looking for pizza, this is definitely a place I would recommend.
mmm we came here last night before going to a club (yes before..weird i know) and we ordered a 8'' cheese pizza.. although it took a while for the food to come, it was worth the wait! the cheese was soo melty and the crust was SO delicious. i could just eat the bread part on its own! i would come back if i'm ever in the area again..but there are so many restaurants there i want to go to them all! the service is alright..they bring your food to the table..are you supposed to tip then?
