Review from Lou M.
My wife and I hit this place up in September and were very pleased. The owner was very pleasant and had a great sense of humor. I ordered the rack of lamb and it was super tasty. There was a very talented piano player in the cafe who was very cool as well. The owner always checked in on us without overdoing it. Overall, it was a nice place to just kick back with your significant other and enjoy a nice meal.

My friends and I found this restaurant on Yelp and stopped in our way home to Northern Virginia. The food was great - especially my lemon creme brûlée - and the owner was very accommodating, however, the waitress was something else! I doubt if she still works there...

Decent food. Canned tuna in the salad nicoisse. Only 2 tables in the whole restaurant so we could hear the foul language from the kitchen staff. Nice owner. No wine knowledge or wine presentation knowledge. Loved it when the owner served the wine and wiped the lip of the wine bottle with his finger...twice! Other than that, it's okay. Probably too high priced but need to since there wasn't much business.

What a lovely addition to the Winchester restaurant scene...
I had lunch here with a friend and was very happy with my meal. I had the special appetizer with crab and avocado atop a slice of pineapple. Light, fresh, and tasty.
I came here to try the Salad Nicoise to see if it compared with those I had while in France. It was every bit as good. We shared the Fruit Pastry which was also very good.
Here's the reason it doesn't get five stars. The owner came out at the end of the meal and basically berated me for not finishing the olives that came with my salad. My friend did not eat the tomato that came with her sandwich (she doesn't like tomatoes) and he started on a rant about how much the tomatoes cost and how he could have fed his cousins in Argentina with that money.
OK, so that was awkward...he may have been just joking but it was still very uncomfortable. And lunch, with two appetizers, entrees, and a shared dessert came to $60 with tip. A little pricey for a casual lunch (I have had better in the DC area for cheaper) but the food was still wonderful nonetheless.
Give this place a try :)Listed in: Funchester Dinner and Drinks

Great choice. Just walked in -- and waitress let us have lunch after normal time -- had snapper "nicoise" style with olives, anchovies, and was delicious. My wife had the trout with capers. Both came with ratatouille and rice. Nice wines, great expresso. Didn't try the dessert but choices were tempting. Owner and Head Chef Frederick came out to ask how we liked the meal. If you're in Winchester, this one's a winner!

Great little place if you enjoy quirky. The food is good to great. The atmosphere could use some work. The lighting at night is rather glaring. Service is attentive if a bit odd. We especially love the music track. The 80's hits sung in French.
Very funny and fun place. -

Stumbled on this place by accident while driving through town ~ it was wonderful!! The bruschetta and warm bread were enough to make me want to return!

My wife, newborn and I went to La Nicoise for a casual lunch and ended up having a great time. As we always try to do, we both ordered off the specials the waiter told us about when he brought us our iced tea. We both started with leek and potato soup which I didn't have to add any salt or pepper to. Seasoned just right! My wife had prosciutto and melon and i had a caprese salad. Both were excellent. Then I had a great piece of trout that came with some spanish rice and ratatouille. My wife's entree was a flounder sandwich. Her's was lightly breaded and almost like a french "po-boy" and came with a house salad.
I sneaked a peek at the kitchen on our way out when I thanked the chef and it was definitely a one man operation (at least at lunch) and it felt like he took time and care with both of our dishes.
Try this place out if you're in Winchester. It really took us by surprise! -

Great food - a nice surprise in downtown Winchester. I wish the wine list was better though. They serve wine like Crane Lake, which CVS advertises in their Sunday newspaper insert for $4.99/bottle. Still we'll go back, as the food is real and the atmosphere is a nice change of pace!

French country-style cafe just off the main drag, across from the fire station. Excellent food, our first or second choice of all the places we hit on our stay there. NOT a stuffy restaurant, the owner is funny and friendly (perhaps a bit too much if you're expecting a quiet/fancy atmosphere). The food was subtle and unbelievable. I tend to prefer Italian to French, but this place made a believer of me

This place is great, the service is top notch....the owner even comes out all the time to make sure one feels welcome, the service is great and that one loves his cuisine. Food comes out looking and tasting great. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for at La Nicoise Cafe. Try it you will love it a true hidden treasure in Winchester.

Had a great time. Glad to have this type of food in Winchester. Great atmosphere, great food, fair prices. Ask to speak to Frederic, the owner, when you go. His charisma and knowledge will make this French dining experience well worth your it.

Food was very good - a little pricey. We went on a Saturday & there was live entertainment, which we loved. Service was a little slow.
