Was visiting some friends in NYC and hanging out in their neighborhood on the Upper East Side. We were on our way to yet another Irish pub and stopped in here to get pizza. They said this was their favorite pizza place.
I can see why...had one Sicilian slice that my friend recommended I try and also a supreme slice. My ladyfriend had a pepperoni and sausage and I had a bite. Good prices for NYC and amazing pizza. My friend said they have hung out with the guys that work there, and they seemed nice. I will definitely hit this place up next time I'm here.
Whoa. La Mia is a humbling experience. First off, this is truly a gem for the locals. It doesn't have any of the pretense of most "canonical" NYC pizzerias. The staff is awesome, nicest guys. The atmosphere is cheap but cozy, with ample space inside. Doesn't feel like some dungeon.
Now, the pizza. Good lord. The grandma pizza is brilliant, with the perfect ratios of everything, perfect crust consistency and oilyness. BBQ pizza, ziti haven't failed yet. The reliable quality of this pizza is what really makes La Mia sing.
Nom nom nom. This was our favorite pizza spot in NYC. The pizza was always fresh, generous portions, friendly staff. The garlic knots are the BEST! It is such a shame that Orange County doesn't have a place that even comes close to La Mia.
They had the best lasagna pizza, as well as the white pizza (with spinach), mushroom pizza too..
Nice thin crust. My slice was fresh mozzarella, flecked with basil, spotted with sauce regions.
It looked like a map, and it was a map of sorts. A map to flavorland.
Three stars only because the sauce, while fresh-tasting and tomatoey, lacked kick and complexity. So actually the slice was more like a map to New Decentsnack.
The guy behind the counter was cool, because he charged me 4.75 for just the single slice. I was so confused and horrified that I paid him and stumbled back to my table, consumed by irate feelings toward food-pricing on the Upper East Side.
But then he realized that he'd made a mistake, and called me back so he could return some of my money. Class.
La Mia's Pizza is amazing!! I usually order their plain slice for $2.25, which always comes out wonderfully crisp and oozing with cheese. However, today I was feeling a little adventurous and ordered the sicilian and loved itt!!
I really dont think you can go wrong with this place, so hurry up and try it already!!!!!!!
I know the majority of NY pizza is excellent, however this one is tops. I used to live up by this place and it is one of those places best for late-night, after-bar snacking if you're in the area. Pizza always hits the spot in the most excellent of ways, and the staff is friendly and fun.
It's losing a star only cause you don't want to use the restroom (after a bar crawl, sometimes you just have to). Eww.
Mamma mia! La Mia is a gem with fantastic, fresh slices. I'm addicted to the gramma pizza (fresh crushed tomato marinara, basil, olive oil and mozzarella on a square slice). One of the best slices in NYC.
Excellent UES pizza. I stopped in today for a slice with mushrooms, fresh mozz, and fresh basil and it was much better than average. The sauce has a little kick to it- and the clearly fresh ingredients make quite a difference from the standard. Only negative is that they charged me for a fountain soda refill...I always think thats kind of ridic. But since I drink soda about once a month I don't really care that much. It took me a while to find this place- but it's my new fav in my hood. Too bad they haven't jumped on the http://delivery.com or http://seamlessweb.com bandwagon yet.
I'll still order from them the old fashioned way I suppose.
La Mia is MY favorite pizza place in my neighborhood.
They have a good selection of different varieties (I love the fresh mozzarella one with the basil); but I invariably return to my just perfect
plain cheese pizza.
Nothing more has to be added to this slice of yum.
So, it is worth a few extra minutes of wait-time during the busy hours, but it isn't that long a wait. And as for the price - it is so totally worth it, especially after my disastrous experience with Domino's (see review).
In fact, I am still hungry (Domino's is in the trash) - and I am thinking of calling La Mia right NOW.
Our favorite UES NYC pizza by the slice. Flavored to perfection. Fast and delicious!
This is hands down the most tasty and delicious pizza on the upper east side. I walk 2 avenues East and 3 blocks North, passing at least 6 other wanna-be pizza joints just to patronize La Mia. If you live in the area, this place will be your bank account's best friend. $2 SLICES OF CHEESE. Go get em.
Excellent pizza. Yeah it's no Lombardi's or Di Fara's, but for its category, it's awesome. Quick delivery and always hot. The guys are real cool too. My favorite local pizzeria on the UES. My favorite is the margherita.
i mean, the pizza was fairly good, but $15 for a large pepperoni when i can usually get it for $12 or less?...but i must admit that scm and i ordered it pretty late and they delivered in a very timely manner...so i shouldn't complain that much.
