My wife and I hit this place up every couple of weeks. Great neighborhood place. Lots of old timers and locals. You definitely get the family feeling in this place.
The food is great, and the price is right. I really like the stuffed mushrooms, great plate of pasta and friendly service.
A wonderful neighborhood spot with solid (albeit a tad slow) service and fair prices. Pleasant, casual atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed -- but not too relaxed -- date. Far enough away from the Graham stop to keep away the noisy masses, it plays a much needed role on the stretch of Graham from the subway to the BQE: a reasonably priced dinner spot that tastes good, looks nice, and doesn't break the bank.
My only beef is one that few people would find as objectionable as I do -- they serve Pepsi instead of Coke! Ew.
I live right next to this place. I am SO HAPPY I live right next to this place.
I work with Vinny Q: 62 year old Italian guy from Long Island who still visits this place with friends who live in the area. When I told him I was moving to Graham Ave he said I absolutely have to come here, they make food just like his mother used to make. Legit.
I usually bring my parents here when they come to see me, it's a family owned restaurant that makes great food, and my dad's a cheap ass so with everything here under $15, it's perfect.
I'd go for the pastas if you want to fill up, as some of the specials/meat dishes can be a little small on portions. It's not always in the size of the dish though, and since it's so affordable, it's not like you didn't get your money's worth. I'm a regular, if you live in the area, or even if ya don't, stop by.
Gotta say, this place didn't impress me. The inside is nice enough with a large arched ceiling. The service is good, although the place was pretty deserted when I went. The food just wasn't anything special. I had the bucatini amatriciana, a fairly basic dish. The bucatini was good and the sauce itself was watery but had a decent taste. The few little onions had almost dissolved, and the pancetta was all fat. I know that the fat is integral to the dish, but they just put in a crappy cut of meat with no meat on it. I can understand that this wasn't going to be a fine dining experience to remember judging by the prices alone, but this could've and should've been better.
When i moved on Graham i was toldt that italian=bright lights+pizza+old timers+locals+more pizza. I was very pleased at La Locanda, something a little different, great antipasto and the veal was so good. Service is nice, very easy going place.
Suppose you have to do all of the following:
1. Get filling rib-sticking pasta to elevate blood sugar dropped by long work day, running hard, working out, can't speak complete sentences no more.
2. Get lunch for tomorrow. Because it's already 9:30 pm and you want to watch "Countdown" before you go to sleep. And you'll wake up exactly 20 minutes before you have to leave for work.
3. Spend around $10.
You can do it at all La Locanda by taking out one pasta dish. It tastes good enough. It's fresh. It's cheap. Yeah, you could make it yourself at home, but that would mean boiling water on dangerously low blood sugar. No good.
Graham Avenue's amazing hidden gem. Every time I eat here I feel like I'm eating food cooked in someone's warm and inviting kitchen. Wide menu of Italian fare. Penne alla Vodka is to die for. Always affordable.
My favorite Italian place in Brooklyn -- one of those uncommon family-run neighborhood places with really fantastic rustic food at great prices. Go somewhere else if you're looking for haute cuisine, but La Locanda is the best for homestyle Brooklyn Italian -- moreso than Bamonte's which is something of an establishment (with prices to match) and average pastas or Cono Pescatore or La Piazetta. Cono--the owner--uses simple, fresh ingredients, his wife decorates the place according to holidays and seasons and his children wait tables. An ideal place to take family (though I was happy to go there on the night of my engagement!)
For a simple Italian spot that is inexpensive and does all the classic Italian/American dishes just how you like them this place gets four stars.
A great week day Italian spot, it is nice to see the locals there.
This place is decent. It was really crowded when we went, but we didn't have to wait too long. Overall it wasn't the best Italian in the neighborhood. There are several other places I'd go first.
3 stars for great prices/decent meal! Sooo cheap
The food is decent, but not amazing. I could probably cook comparable dishes at home.
I've been there a couple times, mainly because the atmosphere is cozy, warm and welcoming. It's very family-friendly.
A great place to get out of the cold and have a hearty, simple meal. Not a place to have amazing Italian food.
When you're in the mood for a big Italian-American pigout complete with pasta servings for an entire village and a bottle of Manhattan Special, this is the place to go. I'm not talking fine dining here... I'm talking Italian-American comfort food.
Sometimes its what you need to hit the spot!
I went here with my fiance on a Monday night and was surprised to see that there were 6 or 7 other tables already occupied. Certainly a good sign. We had the hot antipasto plate for an appetizer which was only okay. For entrees I got the chicken rollatini and he got penne alla vodka. The penne was delish but my chicken was soooo good. When I cut into my chicken breast, hot fontina cheese came bursting out. The salty pancetta and tomato mushroom sauce were the perfect combination to my delicious chicken. I will definitely come back here. In fact, I feel like I don't need to go anywhere else when craving cheapish Italian food. Bonus: I was able to get salad instead of pasta for my entree. Cheese + pasta = carb and fat overload!
