What a gem, what an absolute gem along the Redwood highway! The restaurant pickings in this quiet, small town are slim but boy did we hit the jackpot! The place smells delicious and how an authentic Mexican food restaurant should smell. Complimentary baskets of chips come standard. There is a salsa bar with incredible pico de gallo and other great house salsas. The menu offers anything you could possibly want from a Mexican restaurant. I had the carne asada quesadilla and my boyfriend the carne asada chimichanga. Both were absolutely phenomenal. The carne asada cooked perfectly with just the right tenderness, texture, and flavor. Good guacamole. And the chimichanga was HUGE! We both left stuffed and thoroughly satisfied all for about $20 total. If you love Mexican food, definitely hit this place if you find yourself along the 101 in Northern California.

Review from Suzy S.
Who would think there would be a decent Mexican spot in this little berg? After a long hike we were famished and this was the only game in town. I was so tired as I flopped down into a comfy booth and truly appreciated the service with a welcoming smile. The cold Corona was also much appreciated, I felt like I'd found my oasis.
The three of us tried a variety of dishes and each one was excellent. The carnitas are worth noting, as well as any of their shrimp dishes. I'd make this a 4+ star if possible. The chips and salsa could stand a bit of improvement but that didn't seem to slow us down.
We enjoyed our lunch here so much that we returned for a late breakfast as we pulled out of town the following day. It was equally as yummy as our lunch. From now on, we will plan our trips to include at least one stop here on our way through Orick. -

What is this place doing in Orick??? We were starving and basically there was no place else to eat, but wow, did we stumble on a gem! I had the BBQ chicken burrito and it was amazing. I ate way more than I should have (a sure sign that I enjoyed it). This burrito ranked up there with some of my favorites, and I consider myself a burrito expert.
Another plus is that it's right next to the only real grocery store in town so we were able to pick up all the stuff we needed for camping that night. -

There aren't many options in this neck of the Redwood coast. Sure it's a down home mexican restaurant but after a long day of hiking, it's exactly what I'm looking for.
The food was fresh and delicious. Mexican food at it's finest. Just like grandma used to make.
Salsa bar - Fantastic
Fish Tacos - Awesome
Green Chili Pork - Outstanding
Fresh Corn Tortillas - Out Of This World -

When you've been biking through the redwood national forest and eaten the very last of your trail mix and wondering whether you'll be able to survive the next two hours, the town of Orick appears on the horizon to welcome you. On this stretch of road, you only have 3 choices: the confederate flag-waving burger joint, the Palm Hotel (and cafe!), and La Hacienda. We chose La Hacienda and really found a gem that was close to the market, so you'll find a lot of travelers (including fellow bikers) stopping at this place.
The owner was nice and courteous. It's not the best Mexican I've had, but given its location, I was surprised that it could provide that level of quality (including even the standard chips with self-serve choices of salsa and even coronas)
We ordered the:
Super Burrito- they have carne asada and it's about a 1/3 bigger than a Chipotle Burrito.
Shrimp Enchiladas- standard and tasty
TOTAL- $20.07+tip
Probably the best part of the place was the feeling of home it gave that is only captured by a local family owned Mexican restaurant. All of the local latinos came to this restaurant and there was even a celebration on the patio for the birthday of a little girl. The owner began to speak to me in Spanish and had to correct himself, which was a nice touch. -

The food here was amazing. We got the fish burrito, which was huge, and bisteak ranchero. Both were huge and inexpensive. The service was ok, the waitress seemed a bit aloof.

My boyfriend and I stopped for lunch at this restaurant on our way to the Redwood National Forest. All in all, the food was pretty decent, and we had all the usual options one would find at a typical Mexican restaurant. I ordered the vegetarian quesadilla, and my boyfriend ordered a tostada. Both of us enjoyed our meals, and we really enjoyed the homemade chips and salsa. It was definitely a nice touch.

The pickings are very slim in this part of the Redwood forest but that doesn't dimish the tasty Mexican food at La Hacienda. The meals are enormous, fresh and served quickly. They have a selection of help yourself fresh salsas to go with the tortilla chips.
If one member of your group absolutely can not tolerate Mexican food (what a shame)- they do have a burger and very tasty fries on the menu. -

Surprisingly delicious Mexican food. I had two fish tacos, each with a ton of fresh buttery fish on a small taco ( and not vice versa). Loved it - highly recommend.

omg, i can't believe we found this place. the molcajete was one of the best mexican meals that i have had outside of mexico. only had the one meal there but it was as good as any mexican restaurant i've been to in the bay area. of course, it's not quite primavera. but this is a real find.
right friendly to boot. -

We vacation in this area every summer and eat at La Hacienda at least once per trip. Nothing fancy but the food is good. Fresh tortiallas and salsa, a full page of vegetarian options, and fast, friendly service. Recommended to anyone who can't get through their trip to the redwoods without a little Mexican food.

We stopped by here back in July. I wasn't expecting much but it was either this place or a seedy looking place across the street. We were all pleasantly surprised though. My husband and I shared a burrito and a torta. The Torta was by far the best. The pico de gallo was really good too. My dad had the molcajete and he really seemed to like it. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be stopping by this palce.

The restaurant is very modest, but the food is excellent. Try the molcajete (a shrimp, bacon, beef, vegi stew served in a stone bowl). The burritos are large and tasty. Nice homemade salsa and tortillas. Prairie Creek campground is about 4 miles away if you want a nice break from camp food, although you may need a siesta after one of their generous meals.
