We love this restaurant. The food is always good and the Peruvian is the way to go for something different than the standard Mexican food. We recently enjoyed the Friday night music and it was perfect. Not too loud and complimentary to our dining experience. We will be regular customers.

We have eaten here before and it was always okay. Not great but okay. Last night we had a much less favorable experience. Our waiter was surly and obviously unhappy with his job. The basket of chips is so small that we had to keep asking for refills. The drinks were watery and tasteless, a complete waste of money. My husband ordered something from the Peruvian side of the menu and was underwhelmed. I got the cheese enchilada and chile rellano combo. Both were adequate, nothing to write home about. My mom got the beef fajitas which were so tough and overcooked that they were inedible. It looked like a pile of dog food. When we complained they took that off our bill.
What a total disappointment. We will not be back again, our money is too precious to waste on bad food, bad service, and bad drinks. -

Must order Peruvian. I always order the special of the day and have been delightfully pleased every time.

Almost tasted like fast food. Nothing too much to like besides inexpensive food.

Tequila is not my friend. I think this is the sad realization I'm coming to after my last few drinking experiences. I had their basic margarita and my husband the Cadillac. They both packed a punch and hours later we were both passed out on the couch.
The other essential item at Mexican restaurants (imho) are tasty chips and these were served warm, refilled often, and were light and crispy with a tangy salsa.
I ordered the Grand Capitan's Shrimp Salad and my husband had a carnitas burrito. Both were eagerly gobbled up. The kids meals were less successful, with both kids barely picking at their food.
I don't think we saw this restaurant in its best light. We were there early evening on a Sunday, so there wasn't any live music and not many other patrons. We had a long wait to order our food, and actually got a sigh and eye roll when we asked for a children's menu, but happily it improved after that.
We'll be back to try it again, but hopefully they have some rum drinks on their menu since tequila apparently sucks the life force right out of me. -

Just got back from a typical Friday night with the fam out for dinner at our local stop... La Hacienda. Can't say enough good stuff about this place. You'd never think you could find such great food and MUSIC in a local strip mall, especially one that has been there through three major facelifts and many storefront changes. La Hacienda has stayed the same and has always delivered.
Great margaritas (at least when Cesar is bartending). Too bad the "neighbors" complained and won't let them keep the music and dance floor open late. This place used to shake with the bass sound, but now it's just good old fashioned family fun.Listed in: My Neighborhood, Best of the OC

The good: warm chips, decent salsa, incredibly friendly service, interesting menu with pictures, tasty beef. Nice ambiance, despite being in a strip mall.
The bad: slippery floors, small serving of guacamole, entrees were oily and had way too many onions to fill space on the plate. The meat was "gamey" per my sister, and "overdone" per the husband. My margarita had very little booze. And the food is expensive.
The funny: the white middle aged "live music" guy who sang a 60's medley, including La Bamba and Twist and Shout, as well as country music and Route 66. He was terrible, but fun.
I wouldn't go back again, so the search for decent mexican food continues. -

I always chuckle when I see that this is listed as a Mexican restaurant. Heck it even says so outside the place. However, looking over the menu it is chock full of Peruvian specialties so why they don't just call themselves by that is beyond me.
I dropped by on Saturday afternoon while having some work done on my car nearby. There weren't that many people dining but it was fairly early so I wasn't surprised. I loved that most of the menu items featured photos which I think it always a good idea when ordering unfamiliar food. The lunch special was a choice of chicken or beef taco, burrito, chalupa, enchilada or chile rellano for $4.95. That's my kind of deal!
I went with the chicken enchilada and was suprised when the waiter brought the food out about 2 minutes after I ordered it. I have to say that even though the chips were warm and the salsa very tasty, my lunch was pretty mediocre. The enchilada was just a tortilla wrapped around shredded chicken with some red sauce on top. The refried beans tasted like they came from a can and the rice was not very flavorfull.
The Peruvian specialties are probably a lot better but a tad on the expensive side. I noticed they have drink specials Monday - Thursday so maybe I'll come back again for one of the drinks and true one of the delicious looking special plates. -

La Hacienda is a "regular" for us. We really like the food and portions and for a long while they had a folk singer we enjoyed. (he's still around occasionally)
The shopping center, and some of the amenities kinda keep me from saying it is a 4 star but I would definitely put the food in the 4 star category. I really wish i could give them 4 stars because the overall experience is really fun and the menu is terrific and very broad. -

I would never recommend to order off the Combo Menu for the "Mexican" food. BUT if you're willing to try something new, go to their Peruvian food. It is AWESOME! I've been going here for years and try different items as well as my favorites. Try the Green Spaghetti with chicken, or the Chaufa. Great flavors! Mondays are $4 Margaritas. You'll find my husband and I there almost every week.
