Makes me wanna say GULI GULI GULI GULI!!!
My local (FAMOUS) bakery is so good that they don't even have to lure you in with their scent like Rose & Joe's on 31st. You just walk in of your own free accord. The bakers are a delight and an added bonus to my occassional Saturday morning visits. They're very smiley and delighted to help you pick out your next reason to visit the dentist.
I am always gorging on the cannolis. The tea biscuits are absolutely divine. The Italian cookies are pretty much awesome. And they have this one that's kind of like heaven, it's really flat and bumpy and crunchy. I don't know what anything else is called really because everytime I go I just lean over the counter and point. It's a fun game. You should try it. Never know what you're gonna get but it's always delightful in the end.

As my boyfriend will tell you, I just LOVE pastry shops and bakeries. Every time I see a bakery in a neighborhood, I have to take a look at the goods to see what's on offer and whether it's worth stopping again whenever I'm in the area.
La Guli reminds me of the pastry shop and bakery my family would frequent when I was young. When I first walked in, the smell of fresh bread and tantalizing cookies hung in the air and I felt like a little kid again. As other Yelpers have mentioned, this place is full of delicious-looking Italian pastries and some Greek specialties. I always go for the butter cookies, which in this store are all numberd so as not to confuse the counter person by just pointing at one of the numbers trays overflowing with such rich treats.
On this occasion, I picked up some chocolate dipped pistachio biscotti, which were so delicious and fresh. I brought them to a friend and we shared them over tea that afternoon.
There is seating in the back of the store, so if you choose to have a coffee and a sweet treat, no reason to rush home if you must have immediate gratification.
I'm sure I'll find myself back in the area soon to try some of their other delectables soon - Enjoy!

The biggest secret in town--- even Balducci's likes the pastry here! Yup, I heard them call in the order one afternoon while waiting for my pastries to be wrapped. You can beat the Manhattan markup by taking the N train to the last stop on Ditmars. Stop in for espresso and sfogliatell' or a cannoli. Nonna will help you pick out a good one!

On any day of the week, anyone in the Ditmars neighborhood can stop by La Guli and get a taste of one of Astoria's most established pastry shops. Their treats are decently sized, fresh and abundant, and reasonably priced. Its a great place to pick up treats for the kids, for gifts to others, or just to fulfill that sugary craving that exists within many of us. The place is small, but loaded with plenty of goodies that range from Italian inspired treats to Greek pastries all well prepared. Recommended for many occasions.
