10 reviews for La Estrellita Poblana
Wow Viva pancho Villa guey...
Well my friend the COP told me a bout this place. I have driven by it many times but since it was a little cucaracha hole in the wall i never bothered. When i arrived at the place, i called him back and asked " are you sure this is the place", he said yes - go in and wait to be seated.
Well it was worth the 10 minute wait.
The Super HOT fresh Salsa, best in NYC (too bad sagat does not go to that part of the BX)
The chips are normal like any other place.
I had the Mexican Churrasco and i could not finish it all, it was huge (ok thats what she said). My friend ordered some streak and shrimp thinga ma jiggy. The rice as moist and very fresh.
In total 2 dinner 3 beer and some desert $32 bucks.... cant bet that.
PS: way better than Mama Mexico (overpriced BS of a Mex - restaurant)
Taco bell is less than a block away, and I'd easily pick Estrellita over the bell any day.
Thee best authentic Mexican dish you'll prob ever have it's like a slice of Mexico bonito , their shrimp tacos make me scream viva Mexico! And their quesadilla is my fave
I love love the queso fresco they crumble on it , along with the crema
I remember one night I was working out at the gym r
Right above the restaurant after a workout with the boys we had to come down for some steak tacos, just couldn't resist
i remember when i was first introduced to this place, back when it was literally a hole in the wall
freshman year of high school my friend and i had some tacos back when it was literally the size of an aisle in a small supermarket
decent pricing you must try!
I've only ordered two things when I'm here but they're so fantastic I have to yelp.
The guacamole (cheap!) and the Huarachachas (sp?) Delicious.
(for the teardrops)
as i sit here mooning over my coffee like first love, trying to revive a wretched soul with reason and doowop, all mystery and meaning conjoined in a phonecall, it could be raining. i don't care.
My steak burrito was HUGE and overstuffed. I especially love the the Mexican cheese which is this crema that they drizzle on top. My steak itself was really tender and juicy and the rice was fantastic.
Too bad they didn't have tamales that day but I was luckily to enjoy their empanadas which was filled with marinated chicken, mushroom, cheese, etc. I really enjoyed the the texture of the empanada itself. I don't know what kind of flour they used but it was different from what I had before and it basically was a surprising treat with the stuffing inside.
For dessert, just because, I had the dulce de leche cake with the peach and nut filling. It was staring at me as I was waiting for my takeout and I couldn't leave it. So so so decadently mouthwatering good. Huhhhh. I will definitely come back.
The restaurant was similar looking to any spanish jt in the Bronx where the dining area is up on a platform. The waitresses were very nice and helpful. Service was fast. Mexican goodies by the register.
Finally, I found authentic mexican food in NY. I know you've all heard the "I'm from CA and nothing beats the Mexican food there" story before but I'm seriously not that snobby. And after just spending a month in LA--I think Estrellitas tacos rival the few that I tasted while there.
For the best value--go for the burrito. It's huge, filled with meat, rice, beans, sour cream on top and comes with iceberg lettuce and radishes. I always go for the tacos filled with carne asada and a chorizo sope. Guac is good--add your own salt and salsa is spicy and delicious. My friend really likes the chicken mole there as well. They just expanded the restaurant and it's now really big and nice inside w/clean bathrooms. Love this place--if you are from CA and found yourself in the Bronx for school, residency, work whatever, go here!!
I am definitely one of those CA snobs who did nothing but complain about the Mexican food in NY - until I found this place (and maybe the Calexico cart in Manhattan). The food here is as authentic as it gets - white queso, jalapenos, tamales. Mmm... I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! I've tried the enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and some of their other more interesting plates and nothing's let me down. Still, my absolute fave are their steak tacos with everything on them. On top of everything else, the place is cute and cozy. This place really is a star!
I pretend to be a New Yorker these days but am secretly Californian. Especially when it comes to Mexican food. I haven't found a Mexican place in Philadelphia, Manhattan, or New Haven that compares to La Estrellita Poblana. The seafood dishes are amazing -- including the shrimp tacos which have plump juicy shrimp -- not those little tiny things that most NYC places in this price range use. I also love the salads, burritos, quesadillas, and the shrimp diablo. Generally I have this on a workday when we are ordering in. But it makes a 30hour work day worth it! I'm craving it now!
After living in Astoria Queens where you can get a great meal anywhere for under $10, when I moved to the Bronx, I stopped going out to eat.
Then I found Yelp. La Estrellita Poblana was my first venture and I was not disappointed. The food was very authentic Mexican food and a lot of it. Good chips and salsa. Service was quick and friendly. Good value. I would definitely go again.
I'm a Mexican food snob. I love good, authentic Mexican food. I will tolerate any other kind. So my fellow teachers and I went here for a good-bye lunch for me and some other collegues. We had about 15 people, and the waitress did a great job getting everyone's order right! We even had a few vegetarians who (me) had specific questions she put up with. For starters they give us chips (mediocre) and salsa (very yummy!) and guacamole (too much avocado, not enough lime). I ordered a vegetarian burrito, which turned out to be HUGE! I could only eat half of it, and took the other half home. Others seemed very satisfied with their plates. A friend got a seafood platter that looked very fresh and yummy. They were quick to serve us and bring the bill. We were 15 and got in and out in about 1.25 hours, which is impressive! Only gets less one star because their mole is made with chicken stock and I couldn't have any.
Vegetarian options.
