When it comes to vacations, I make sure to do my research ahead of time. Much of the time though, no matter how thoroughly you investigate, you can end up disappointed. Thankfully, La Cuesta came through for me!

To be completely honest, having never been to the area, I ultimately went with La Cuesta because of its proximity to the freeway and the cost. There were a few hotels nearby that had a similar price, but I guess the promise of a deluxe continental breakfast swayed me. Hehe. As was already mentioned, the only thing deluxe about the breakfast was the waffle maker and cups of batter. Call me silly, but I enjoyed the novelty.

The room was clean, but nothing too special. Except... when we went into the bathroom we found along with the standard shampoo/soaps, there was a little rubber ducky! How fun and surprising that was! Also, as you can see from the pictures I've posted, there was an amazing view.

The best part of the stay was the attentive staff. My mom and I were just there for one night, on our way up to Monterrey and had no clue where to dine. The girl at the front desk was so friendly (from beginning to end), really knowledgeable about the town (which any good concierge should be) and recommended this great little restaurant that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Don't let the low price-point steer you away from this place. It's an amazing value for a seemingly typical run of the mill motel that, filled with unexpected special touches, is anything but typical.

It wasn't listed in Expedia, Orbitz, ect... so I almost missed it. I recommend it for people who don't need something fancy, but want a nice affordable hotel.  It's price is very reasonable for what you get. Clean, comfortable, nice location, friendly and some nice touches.
DVD players are in the room, and they have a good selection of free movies available to choose from in the lobby. And sometimes (not all the time) there's a little yellow ducky in the bathtub :) I recommend it to family and friends.

I got a job to do at La Cuesta peak which is about 5-miles north of San Luis Obispo, so I thought it wise to reserve a room to stay at the northern edge of the city.

Incidentally, the name of the hotel happens to be La Cuesta Inn, which is conveniently located right after the last Fwy-101 exit in SLO (San Luis Obispo) to Monterey Street and just a block away is a Chevron gas station.

It was already almost midnight when I arrived and a little bit tired, so I just skipped dinner and went to sleep with the tv on.

Soon it was morning, had a shower, a cup of coffee and also skipped the free continental breakfast in order to hit the road soon and moved on.

So, what I really like about La Cuesta Inn is the convenience that as soon as you get off the freeway exit to Monterey, you're immediately in their driveway and in the morning, also have a quick get-away.

And the staff at the counter, they're quite okay...

This place is absolutely awesome!

A couple of girlfriends and I went down to San Luis Obispo for the weekend, and neglected to reserve a room for the two nights we were staying down there.  We also basically realized this at 3am.  So after going down the strip of hotels and motels (which were going to charge $140/night IF they had a room), we ended up at La Cuesta... the last one on block.  the guy behind the counter was SUCH a sweetheart.  He'd asked if we had AAA cards, which none of us did, but he still pretended that we did.  He also only charged us for one night, considering it was after 3am.

Besides his awesomeness, the hotel's pretty damn cool.  The rooms were super clean, the toiletries contained extras like make-up remover clothes, the video selection was plentiful, the breakfast had a good variety, and the pool was clean and fun.  They also have a laptop you can use in the lobby, no charge.

On the last day, we even managed to get a late check-out so we could shower after kayaking.

Thanks La Cuesta for makin the stay so enjoyable!

a good, solid, clean motel, seated very conveniently close to the freeway.

I don't have very high requirements for a motel:
don't reek of cigarette butts
the walls should be thick enough to not bleed in 'reasonable' noise
clean the bathtub/shower floors so I don't get athlete's foot from the previous patrons.

That's not too much to ask, is it? I figger, we're riding quads all day, no need for a fancy schmancy hotel- I don't plan to spend many waking hours there!

La Cuesta Inn, although a stones throw from the freeway, is pleasantly quiet if your double paned windows are closed. It seems most rooms in addition to the window have a very SMALL patio which a door from your room opens on to- not good for much but it was a nice, considerate touch.

Heated Pool? Check. Hot tub? Check. Free continental breakfast with make your own waffles? Check.  Tea and cookies hour in the afternoon? Check! A free trolley that picks you up and brings you back to and from the farmer's market downtown on Thursday nights?CHECK!

The breakfast sitch is a little funny, since there are these little cafe tables lining the hallway leading to the pool area which to me don't make for an appetizing view of anything. I think if I were up early enough for that I would just take it poolside.

The staff were friendly- when we asked about dinner places they infomed us of the Farmer's Market, which turned out to be like a 5 block event in downtown SLO where a lot of restaurants were located.

The room and bedding was comfy and aside from the fact that the staircase for the building was on the other side of the wall where the headboard was and we could hear everyone stomping up and down them, overall it was a really good place to hang our hat for a few nights.
