Very, very good hotel. Flat screen tv, free dvd rentals and a very good breakfast selection. A steal at $149/ night.

Good value for the money, well maintained, good-sized rooms, clean, very accessible (just off the 101). It's quiet, attractive, and has a fountain out front. Parking is good. Breakfast is continental with hard-boiled eggs, Tazo teas, make your own waffles. There are always cookies and coffee in the lobby. Rooms have a decent-sized flat-panel tv and a DVD player. The lobby has a stand with an impressive number of recent and classic DVDs, for free use. Beds are a bit soft, but the hot water comes on quickly. Free wi-fi in the rooms. There's a computer for guests in the lobby, and they will print the first 5 pages free. Nice if you're checking in for a flight ahead of time.
Across the street from the Apple Farm, and I think these rooms are nicer than AF. Our friend had a room at AF, and it was not conducive to work. -

This is the first time that we've stayed at this hotel and will definitely stay here every time we're in town. The grounds and interior are all well maintained, and the continental breakfast can't be beat. But what puts this hotel above the rest is their awesome staff. I dealt with four different staff members and the consistency of professionalism and willingness to go the extra mile for their guests was something management should be very proud of. From Joshua on the phone prior to our arrival, Ricardo at check in, Jeff on the morning shift and Amy at check out... they each took the time to take care of all of our requests with such positive attitudes. Room price was great, but even better when I got the AAA discount.

We were just here for a long weekend and it was a perfect getaway.
The staff were friendly and so helpful, the rooms were well-maintained, spacious, clean, and the beds were so very comfy!
We were on the fence between staying here vs. the Apple Farm (which is right across the street, btw) but the breakfast and the pool were the draw here.... we ended up in a suite overlooking the pool (not recommended for a romantic getaway, but perfect with kids) - the room included a pull-out sofabed as well.
Breakfast was good- DIY waffle maker, fruit, yogurt, muffins, boiled eggs, bagels, danishes & toast.
DVD players and MP3 player in the rooms, the free movies to borrow from the front desk!
Freshly baked cookies and iced tea in the afternoon.. and coffee/tea/hot chocolate available all day! awesome!
Parking is available outside or downstairs in the covered basement area, fyi.
Staff were very friendly- every day we were greeted with a smile.
We will definitely be back! San Luis Obispo is a great little town to visit! -

We checked in very late (after midnight) on arrival, having come into SLO for a memorial service sometime back in March. The weather was unseasonably rotten for this neck of the woods (or so I was told)...in other words, rain, rain and then MORE rain on top of that.
We stayed for the better part of a week, and I have to say that had it not been for the crappy weather and the somber occasion, it might've been a more-than-decent experience. The staff were never anything less than courteous and helpful (when they could provide assistance...some information about around-town stuff they were a little iffy on). Liked the touch of offering DVD's for watching in the rooms, with an in-room player included (although we didn't take advantage of that on this trip.)
Beds were comfortable and housekeeping service was consistent. Although my preference is usually more in line with the chain hotels like the Holiday Inn Express or a Days Inn (both located up the street), I would not be opposed at all to staying here again, if we're ever back in town.
Oh, and did I mention they have a killer free continental breakfast menu? SLO has plenty of fantastic alternatives in that respect, but if that's a "no-can-do" situation for you, or your trying to save some pennies, it's definitely your best option. -

Wish we could have stayed longer. Only stayed one night on the way to San Francisco.
Loved the outdoor balcony to sit and have coffee and some food from the continental breakfast served downstairs in the morning.
Beds were very comfortable and room was very quiet, updated and clean.
It was a great place to stay.
Dinner across the street (Apple Farm Restaurant) was good too. -

My gf and I stayed here one night while returning back to the Bay Area from LA. It was Labor Day weekend and with so much traffic we decided to stop and spend a nite in SLO. I went to Yelp and read reviews and it looked like the best choice/price. The place is clean, and nice. Staff very nice and helpful. They have free DVD's to check out in the lobby. All the rooms have a DVD player, and coffee maker. Updated rooms, and furniture. There was also a small patio attached to our room. The complimentary breakfast in the lobby was nice too. I would definitely stay here again. My only complaint is that I only got to stay here 1 night.

Stayed here when I went to SLO on a short weekend vacation. It was decently close to town. It was a nice place and they even rented out dvds. I'd stay here again if it weren't for me being poor and all. That's right ladies, scraping the coin tray to stay at a hotel. How ya liike me now...!?
Ok, that's not true...kinda. I did stay there and it wasn't bad. -

San Ramon, CA
Room was in very good condition and the mattress was firm. So why the 3 stars. The most important part, however, the front desk. The lady was more interested in the computer (on the internet I think) than welcoming guests or smiling. She was not unfriendly but just a matter-of-fact.

By far one of the greatest hotels i've been. The beds were GREAT, our room with 2 beds were spacious! breakfast was AWSOME (a variety to choose from). Each room has a dvd player ans you can check out the movies in the lobby for FREE!! Was a good selections of movies. In expensive place to stay!!

We have stayed here this summer on three different trips through SLO and La Cuesta is AWESOME for the price and generally outstanding. We love staying here and it is definitely the best option in town (I have tried three other hotel/motel locations on Monterey St./downtown). La Custa has very clean rooms/towels/sheets, super comfortable king-size beds, exceptional quiet for being so close to the freeway (sliding doors to balcony are very thick, well-sealed), helpful/friendly staff, solid breakfast with lots of tasty options. Pool/spa facility is clean and well-maintained.......book ahead because they were recently sold out on a Monday summer night! Thanks La Cuesta!!!

Was a little worried at first when I saw how close this was to the freeway, but it was VERY quiet and had block out curtains. Very comfy beds, nice staff, and a generous help yourself breakfast. Our room had a sink both in the Bathroom and a seperate sink/vanity outside--very handy. I am quite picky about cleanliness and our room was very clean. The only drawback was not a whole lot of water pressure in the shower, but with all of the great benefits, I can overlook this one. A 5 min straight shot to both Downtown and Cal Poly in either direction and easy access to the Freeway. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

I liked this hotel :)
I'm super particular about carpet at the hotels I stay in, they have to be virtually spotless and this place came really close :) The room was cozy, quiet, and clean. They even have a Super Continental breakfast that includes a self serve waffle and toast station. In the evening they serve cookies and tea...cute :)!
The hostess at the front desk was really sweet. -

Took advantage of the stay 2 nights, get 1 free midweek deals. Makes the price very reasonable.
These rooms are clean, spacious, and do the job. They aren't as appointed as a brand new courtyard by marriott, but the most important things to me are there: really comfy bed, black out curtains, clean and spacious, and affordable.
Nice touches like the dvd player and ipod dock are a bonus, as are the balconies.
Highly recommended!! -

Went up to San Luis Obispo for the open house at SLO. My son is possibly going there. Had to make a last minute reservation and chose La Cuesta Motor Inn. I was not disappointed. In most cases I stay away from the independent hotels and stick with the chains. However in this case I am glad I veered from my typical approach.
This Hotel has completely updated everything, gorgeous rooms and the nicest staff you could ever imagine. The only thing I missed was a flat screen TV but they did have a DVD player and let you check out DVD's for free. The beds were so clean and so comfortable. We asked for a quite room - we knew it would be crowded and when we checked in they said "Mr. Bloom we have reserved you a very quite room" I was really impressed and indeed the room was quiet and peaceful. The room was large, modern, had marble in the bathrooms and was so comofortale. Also there is a really great and included continental breakfast. I would recommend La Cuesta you will not be disappointed. -

Fremont, CA
It's called La Cuesta Inn - not motor inn.
Place was recommended by co-worker who really loved staying here with their kids the month before so followed suit.
Well..maybe my expectations were a bit too much but it was a decent hotel but nothing extraordinary. They have a stay 2 nights get the 3rd night free deal which we went ahead and did. But if it wasn't for the deal, there are other hotels down Monterey St. that I probably would have just pricelined and saved around $100.
Some positives:
-the place is very clean and not run down looking so that was a big plus especially traveling with small kids.
-Right off 101 and few minutes walk from downtown SLO.
-Central location : 15 min away from Pismo , Morro Bay, other beaches and areas.
But best thing was they do have free Breakfast and a Waffle maker which is easy to use and of course makes fresh waffles from the batter you pour in. The kiddies loved making the waffles. Also lot of donuts, yogurt, pastries, and OJ and other juices free for guests.
Recommended if you want something centrally located and willing to pay a little bit more. -

Great stay at La Cuesta Inn last weekend.
Pros:
- Allowed to check-in at 10am.
- Not only were we given fresh cookies in the afternoon, but the front desk clerk let us have some cookie dough too!
- Breakfast was great, lots of options.
- Beds were extremely comfortable.
- Rooms were really soundproof, we were watching March Madness and cheering quite loudly, and you couldn't hear us outside the room.
Cons:
- Asked for additional glasses and was told that the night clerk didn't have access to them (she said she would look but never did).
Would definitely stay here again. Great price. -

Los Angeles, CA
I got a job to do at La Cuesta peak which is about 5-miles north of San Luis Obispo, so I thought it wise to reserve a room to stay at the northern edge of the city.
Incidentally, the name of the hotel happens to be La Cuesta Inn, which is conveniently located right after the last Fwy-101 exit in SLO (San Luis Obispo) to Monterey Street and just a block away is a Chevron gas station.
It was already almost midnight when I arrived and a little bit tired, so I just skipped dinner and went to sleep with the tv on.
Soon it was morning, had a shower, a cup of coffee and also skipped the free continental breakfast in order to hit the road soon and moved on.
So, what I really like about La Cuesta Inn is the convenience that as soon as you get off the freeway exit to Monterey, you're immediately in their driveway and in the morning, also have a quick get-away.
And the staff at the counter, they're quite okay... -

This place is absolutely awesome!
A couple of girlfriends and I went down to San Luis Obispo for the weekend, and neglected to reserve a room for the two nights we were staying down there. We also basically realized this at 3am. So after going down the strip of hotels and motels (which were going to charge $140/night IF they had a room), we ended up at La Cuesta... the last one on block. the guy behind the counter was SUCH a sweetheart. He'd asked if we had AAA cards, which none of us did, but he still pretended that we did. He also only charged us for one night, considering it was after 3am.
Besides his awesomeness, the hotel's pretty damn cool. The rooms were super clean, the toiletries contained extras like make-up remover clothes, the video selection was plentiful, the breakfast had a good variety, and the pool was clean and fun. They also have a laptop you can use in the lobby, no charge.
On the last day, we even managed to get a late check-out so we could shower after kayaking.
Thanks La Cuesta for makin the stay so enjoyable! -

When it comes to vacations, I make sure to do my research ahead of time. Much of the time though, no matter how thoroughly you investigate, you can end up disappointed. Thankfully, La Cuesta came through for me!
To be completely honest, having never been to the area, I ultimately went with La Cuesta because of its proximity to the freeway and the cost. There were a few hotels nearby that had a similar price, but I guess the promise of a deluxe continental breakfast swayed me. Hehe. As was already mentioned, the only thing deluxe about the breakfast was the waffle maker and cups of batter. Call me silly, but I enjoyed the novelty.
The room was clean, but nothing too special. Except... when we went into the bathroom we found along with the standard shampoo/soaps, there was a little rubber ducky! How fun and surprising that was! Also, as you can see from the pictures I've posted, there was an amazing view.
The best part of the stay was the attentive staff. My mom and I were just there for one night, on our way up to Monterrey and had no clue where to dine. The girl at the front desk was so friendly (from beginning to end), really knowledgeable about the town (which any good concierge should be) and recommended this great little restaurant that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Don't let the low price-point steer you away from this place. It's an amazing value for a seemingly typical run of the mill motel that, filled with unexpected special touches, is anything but typical. -

Super clean, with a delightful staff!! We loved our room (right off the pool & spa) and were very comfortable! We're definitely planning a trip back to SLO and this is where we'll stay.
Joy & Jeff definitely took good care of us, from reservation to check-in. The continental breakfast was a very nice touch, however if you avoid carbs as I do, be sure to bring something along since there's no protein! My carb-loving dh was very happy, though, with waffles, toast, bagels and fruit!!
The pool and spa are spotlessly clean!! What a delightful way to end the day!!
Another great feature is that you can only enter the facility through the front entrance. I felt very secure!! -

San Mateo, CA
SLO has lots of old motels that charge an arm and a leg. We arrived at La Cuesta Motor Inn with low expectations but were pleasantly surprised. Our room was pretty roomy and quiet; it was renovated with new bed + bedding. Next to the bed is an iHome, convenient for playing music from your own iPod. Not sure if they renovated the bathroom also; the design is more old-style, but it comes with a powerful blow-dryer with lengthy retractable cord... none of that weak hot air blower type with a mini cord (you know the type I'm talking about!).
Other amenities: continental breakfast and afternoon snacks were nothing to write home about....they're just there and available. What is worthwhile to mention is the motel's nice collection of DVDs available for guests to borrow and watch in-room during their stay. La Custa Motor Inn had pretty recent movies; DVDs that were released as recent as the 1.5 months ago. In a town where there isn't a lot of night life, having some movies on DVD available to watch in room is a real treat! -
Review from Deb F.
This was a pretty good hotel! I had done some research ahead of time, and all the comments were spot-on.
We liked the convenience of the location, the recent DVD collection in the lobby to borrow from, and the cleanliness & decor of the rooms. The breakfast was okay but they need more space for people to sit - we ended up taking our food back to our room to eat.
My only complaint was the pillows. They looked puffy and comfy but they were actually lumpy fiberfill that made it hard to sleep, and I had a sore neck the whole night and next day.
The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the price was very reasonable. -

I never stay anywhere else when I come to SLO! The staff is wonderful, the rooms are always very clean (and have been newly renovated), and the afternoon tea and fresh-baked cookies are my favorite! I also like that they have free dvd rentals and free wifi (that actually works!). Their pool area is also nice with an ample size pool and jacuzzi. Stay at La Cuesta- you won't be dissapointed!

La Mesa, CA
We took a short vacation in SLO and stayed at La Cuesta Inn for three days. The price is very reasonable for a hotel in town and for a room with two queen beds. The rooms are extremely quiet - didn't hear neighbors on both sides or upstairs or the freeway outside. I was impressed with the variety of options for breakfast. We tried the waffles, which were delicious and grabbed a couple pieces of fruit each day for a midmorning snack. And I loved that there was good brewed coffee in the lobby 24 hours (including decaf), which meant I didn't have to drink the generic coffee in the room. We also took advantage of the DVD rental in the lobby for relaxing in our room at night. Easy access to downtown, to other parts of SLO, and to the freeway. We drove into town, but if the weather had been warmer, we easily could have walked there in 10 minutes.

Review from Mortiche W.
Oakland, CA
a good, solid, clean motel, seated very conveniently close to the freeway.
I don't have very high requirements for a motel:
don't reek of cigarette butts
the walls should be thick enough to not bleed in 'reasonable' noise
clean the bathtub/shower floors so I don't get athlete's foot from the previous patrons.
That's not too much to ask, is it? I figger, we're riding quads all day, no need for a fancy schmancy hotel- I don't plan to spend many waking hours there!
La Cuesta Inn, although a stones throw from the freeway, is pleasantly quiet if your double paned windows are closed. It seems most rooms in addition to the window have a very SMALL patio which a door from your room opens on to- not good for much but it was a nice, considerate touch.
Heated Pool? Check. Hot tub? Check. Free continental breakfast with make your own waffles? Check. Tea and cookies hour in the afternoon? Check! A free trolley that picks you up and brings you back to and from the farmer's market downtown on Thursday nights?CHECK!
The breakfast sitch is a little funny, since there are these little cafe tables lining the hallway leading to the pool area which to me don't make for an appetizing view of anything. I think if I were up early enough for that I would just take it poolside.
The staff were friendly- when we asked about dinner places they infomed us of the Farmer's Market, which turned out to be like a 5 block event in downtown SLO where a lot of restaurants were located.
The room and bedding was comfy and aside from the fact that the staircase for the building was on the other side of the wall where the headboard was and we could hear everyone stomping up and down them, overall it was a really good place to hang our hat for a few nights. -

Atascadero, CA
It wasn't listed in Expedia, Orbitz, ect... so I almost missed it. I recommend it for people who don't need something fancy, but want a nice affordable hotel. It's price is very reasonable for what you get. Clean, comfortable, nice location, friendly and some nice touches.
DVD players are in the room, and they have a good selection of free movies available to choose from in the lobby. And sometimes (not all the time) there's a little yellow ducky in the bathtub :) I recommend it to family and friends. -

My gf and her kids and I headed up to SLO the day after Thanksgiving for a 3 day weekend getaway from LA. I researched the trip on yelp and was not in the least let down.
This sweet place is clean and the rooms are good sized. The location is wonderfully close to downtown and the Mission, so that was a plus. The price was incredibly low - I almost didn't believe it.
The best thing about this motel is the staff. Everyone was very polite and attentive. When we called for extra towels (kids, remember?), they were delivered within 10 minutes.Tea and hot chocolate with freshly baked cookies are served from 3p to 6p and there is a free continental breakfast served in the morning that includes a belgian waffle iron - cool. -

Excellent hotel for the price. They take AAA discount too. We arrived late at night and they had complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate. They offer free movie rentals. All their rooms have a dvd player and big screen TV. Our room had a patio, which was really nice when we ate our complimentary breakfast. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was clean with nice toiletries. Overall, a great place to stay for a not so high price.
Listed in: Highway 1 and 101 trip

I'm not gonna lie. For being a lower end hotel, I really enjoyed my stay. The beds are comfy and they provide continental breakfast and tea & cookies in the afternoon. They also have DVDs you can borrow from the front desk. The hotel also has a pool and sauna (but I didn't use it). Definitely a good/cheap options for a SLO hotel.

San Leandro, CA
This was my home for 4 nights while visiting SLO. The staff was super friendly and even allowed me to check in early.
Also this place is conveniently located near the freeway, Cal Poly, and downtown SLO.
The room was pretty clean but did have few stains walls that the cleaning crew missed. The stains bothered me so much I ended up cleaning the stains with clorox wipes myself.
The bathroom was a tight squeeze but definitely doable.
There is complimentary continental breakfast every morning which included muffins, yogurt, various juices, toast, bagels, tea, coffee, milk, cold cereal, oatmeal, waffles, fruit cups, and fresh fruit.
Cookies and tea were available in the afternoon/evening which were not that great but are available if you want to indulge.
I did not check out a movie from the front desk but the option was nice.
The beds and pillows were OK not super comfy but OK and served their purpose.
It is a decent place but nothing to write home about. I utilized the stay 2 nights and get the third night free deal which made the price of the hotel lower than the others in the area.
When I come back to SLO I would consider this place an option. -

I've stayed at La Cuesta about three or four times and always enjoy it. The continental breakfast is fine although I wish these places would serve half 'n half instead of chemical mixtures. The staff are chill and the pool area is very nice for a place in this price range--as are the rooms. Since it's on the 101 side of Monterey, you'll need earplugs if you leave the windows open because of the exiting traffic noise onto the road that runs behind the inn.

Sausalito, CA
I thought this place is overpriced for what you get. We paid $128/night with a group rate. First of all, I found some of the reception staff to be rude. On our arrival, my husband told the woman we were there to check-in and she said, "Oh goody another check-in". No joke. The pillows were like sleeping on lumpy bricks, if that is even possible. I was disappointed in the continental breakfast. Even though they had cereal, waffles and yogurt, the only fruit available was in prepackaged little fruit cups with syrup. But hey, it was free after all. If I were to stay in San Luis Obispo again, I don't think I would stay here.

On our recent Cali vaca we spent 3 nights at the La Cuesta Inn and loved it! Large, clean room with a very comfortable bed, sheets and pillows. It's close to the freeway but suprisingly quiet, decent free breakfast and we got our 3rd night free!! No complaints here and we hope to return soon.

Palo Alto, CA
This place is in a good location, right off the highway and a healthy walking distance to downtown. Our room, though near the elevator, was pretty quiet. The women at the front desk were friendly and competent (we were allowed to check into our room almost 3 hours early). Pluses include a decent selection of complimentary movie rentals to watch in your room and the room had an iPod docking station and DVD player, both of which were appreciated since it rained most of the weekend putting the kibosh on most of our plans. Our room also had a nice little patio up in the pines which would have been enjoyable if the weather were better. They also had all- day complimentary coffee/drinks, afternoon tea (why not leave the tea bags out all day, is my question, however...) and a continental breakfast. If you are vegetarian, you'll do fine but vegans might have to work a little harder to find something to eat. I have to be honest however and say though it was a decent place overall, I didn't find it a particular value at about $170 night w/ tax during the winter. It also would have been nice if someone told us the spa/pool was closed when we made our reservation.
Here is the main thing what I can't get past though. I noticed in the light of the morning, that our room had what looked like high velocity blood splatter on the ceiling over the bed, in the hallway and on the bathroom door. When we checked out I informed the woman at the desk who seemed mortified but it really made me feel like sitting in a tub of Lysol while sipping a vancomycin martini when I got home. -
