9 reviews for La Cresta Mexican Grill
Salsa is always the best indicator of a Mexican restaurant's quality...Salsa and my niece Maddie; who proclaimed upon arrival, "Maddie is suspicious of this place". (I swear to god she talks like that.) The parking lot of this joint prompted my 11 year old niece to talk in third-person!
Alas, Maddie was right. La Cresta is a middle of the road Mexican restaurant with a nice decor. However, the true insult was the salsa! Sadly, the furniture and capacity impressed me more than the food.
My carnitas burrito was decent but, the pork was totally submerged in re-fried beans. It was more of a rescue mission than a meal. With determination and surgeon like precision I rescued the dry but flavorful strands of pork from the burrito because, the re-fried beans tasted like a thick concoction of flour, beans, and mud. What color are re-fried beans supposed to be again? MEh.
Anyway, to finish on a high note...the customer service was very good and the water glasses are very large.
I was here for a Saturday lunch a few weeks back with two female friends. I was impressed with the interior and the ample parking. I was a little concerned that there were several open spots directly in front of the entrance, but not enough to stop me from going in.
There were several tables sat and the hostess sat us immediately. I ordered a Pacifico while my lady friends ordered scratch margaritas to start off. The server dropped off chips and salsa along with water before he took our drink order. The chips were warm and the salsa was very runny. I prefer a chunkier salsa. When it's diluted, the flavor is not as succinct.
I ordered the Carne Asade platter, while my two friends ordered an Enchilida and Carnitas plates respectively. I was pleased with my meal, the meat was tender and the flavor was on par for the pricing. I would've liked the guacamole to be a little thicker, but it had decent flavor. My friend that ordered the Carnitas plate did not enjoy it at all. She said the pork was dry as was the rice that accompanied it. The Enchilada plate was good however, no complaints there.
Our server never came back to check on us after he dropped off our entrees. In the restaurant world, there is a universal rule called, "2 minutes or 2 bites." Meaning that you should check back with your table within 2 bites or 2 minutes of dropping their entrees.
I believe our server prescribed to the rarely used "20 minutes or 100 bites" rule.
Pricing was fair, but reviewing sit-down mexican is a difficult task. I would have been happy ordering the same thing at Alberto's, but we went to La Cresta for the ambiance, not just the food.
It's difficult to mess up mexican food, and La Cresta held its own. But the service needs to be more uniform.
Impressed? Not so much, no...
Well I just went to this restaurant tonight, I walked in with my wife, I was impressed with the décor'. They sat us down to our table right as we walked in. The customer service was outstanding.... I thought to my self this is a great place. We ordered our food, I ordered my usual at every Mexican restaurant ( combo plate of 2 tacos and a enchilada with all rice) but I got the grilled corn with rice, something new to try. After a short wait we received our meals which were not correct, 5 minutes later they brought out our correct meal. The ground beef taco was kinda odd, it had a strange mixture and it was room tempature-gross. The shredded beef shell was broken and was not much of a taco, but the meat was warm. The enchilada was pretty good. The rice was ok, the corn was good. Pretty much we could have went to Taco Bell and saved about $25.00 and had a better dinner.
The cost was average, not to expensive, not so cheap.
Looks can be deceiving.
Pass this place up. Looks nice but food sucks. Trust me I'm picky :)
Im not sure why so many people are down on this place. Atmosphere is very nice. Price is good and the food is above par. Wine list is a bit of the cheap stuff but the beer selection is good. I will go here again for sure. I love their roasted corn and the fish tacos are very nice.
All I've had there is a bean/rice/cheese burrito, which is not as complicated as carne asada or grilled chicken, but the basics should be done right. If I'm going to pay ~$6-7 for a burrito I can get across the parking lot for $4, then it should be better. La Cresta does not follow through. It is alright, the decor is good, but I've found that most Mexican restaurants are not or only just as good as their fast-food counterparts.
The chef at La Cresta Mexican Grill is the same chef who used to work at the now defunct El Rancho Neuvo in Temecula, which as a restaurant, I preferred better. Mostly due to their delicious bean and cheese burrito, which had the most amazing red enchilada sauce and cheese. La Cresta carries over this same burrito, which makes me very happy that it lives on. This plus a large coke makes for a great, albeit not very healthy, lunch. The one perk that La Cresta has over El Rancho is that it now has margaritas, which are pretty good. The service can be a little slow though, depending on who you get.
Really delicious. The best thing on the menu in my opinion is the roasted corn. It has the most incredibly addicting flavor! It's awesome. We had to order more so as not to fight over it :)
I had a chicken sope that was traditional and tasty. Their guacamole could be a little chunkier (just a personal preference) but its still really good.
The service was prompt and friendly and the decor is very nice. I hope this place stays around, its close to my parents house and i would love to go back!
This place is what Wildomar needed !! Ihave been there 6 times and going again today ;) Everyone I have brought there has loved it ! The fish tacos are wonderful !! The staff is attentive and pleasant. They don't rush you like most places do these days. The margeuritas are good and you get tequila in them ;).. funny how most places now you can't even taste the alcohol in them and they charge you 9 bucks?? These guys can make a drink. .. I don't mind paying for;). There is nothing I have found negative about this place .(. La Cresta you get my vote hands down !! See you in an hour ;)
Well, I had high hopes of this new place. The menu looks very intriging but it was a big ol' flop! The decor is simple and nice and even a nice little patio outside (which Im hoping they are going to get a cover for come next summer or it will be too hot to sit outside). The menu is quite large and has a good selection - mulitple soups, salads, entrees. I ordered the chile verde plate. The flavor in the tomatillo sauce was good but the pork was tough. How can u slow cook pork and have it still tough? My friends orderd the appetizer plater - what can I say, pretty easy (cheese quesadilla and some flatas). Their guacamole is actually pretty good and gets a thumbs up. Ok, a $9.00 cadillac margarita - a bit high for what you get and the neighborhood ... this isn't Orange County! Ok, now for the service... what service???? We got sat outside and had to wait 15 minutes for someone to bring us just chips and salsa. Once someone finally figured out that we were their patrons, we ordered our margaritas.. another 15 minutes to just get our drinks. We then ordered, due to assuming we would never see our waitress again and they brought the order out at two different times - 20 minutes apart! What the hell!! They definately need work on the wait staff or need to just hire more personnel and still need work on the food. I gave it a "2" with hopes of improvement... but not holding my breath!!
