The Creperie is perfect for people looking for an inexpensive, light but tasty breakfast (or lunch) to go.  The restaurant is hidden in Fones Alley, tucked away among the student housing off of Thayer Street behind Brown University.  It is a very tiny place, with a few tables and chairs.  Personally, I recommend getting your crepes to go and eating them outside on the Brown campus, especially in the summer.

Leslie, the owner of the the Creperie, took home the top prize in the Rhode Island World of Flavors Competition (disclaimer: I produced the event) in 2009.  Her crepes can be either sweet - filled with fruits, jams or nutella - or savory - featuring sausage and veggies.  Either way, you're in for an inexpensive treat.  They also make wonderful smoothies.

They get one star because the food was good, and one star because i like crepes. But I surely won't be coming back here again.

This place was way too small and crowded. People were crammed in here and there were not enough chairs inside and out. They use plasticware and paper plates which is very unfriendly to the environment.

The people inside were generally annoying. One college girl snatched my chair without even asking if I was using it.

But the worst experience was that I'm SURE that I handed the cashier a $20 bill to pay for my crepe. The cashier claimed that I gave her a $10 bill, and only gave me $4 in change. I was extremely mad, but because I'm a wimp and there was a line behind me, I decided not to escalate into a full fight.

Ok..so I only tried their nutels and banana crepe so I am going to keep this short and sweet. The nutella was very balanced with the crepe mix...none of them overpowered each other. If you've had nutella crepes before you know how bad it can be! This was not overly sweet and was not oily or anything!!
Nice place for snack or lunch or breakfast  if you cannot wait at Louie's :)

The food was good, and the 3 of us shared a total of 4 crepes and 1 belgian waffle so I'm pretty sure everything on the menu is relatively tasty. HOWEVER, the guy making the crepes had a total attitude problem. I don't care if you make crepes all day and you hate your job/life, but I did NOT appreciate all the head-shaking and sighing and generally pissed-off look that he had the whole time we were there. Nor did I enjoy his slamming my credit card on the counter and throwing a pen at me to sign the receipt. Good food does not compensate for horrible customer service, no excuses.

I lost my virginity in La Creperie.  In that dirty alley, I had my first crepe 14 years ago.  I have, of course, had all sorts of other crepes since then.  It's become an obsession.

Big ones. Minuscule ones. Sophisticated ones. Dingy ones. Robust ones. Flimsy ones. Had them in Greece, Venezuela, Germany, and the Keys. I've had them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between.

I've had me all sorts of crepes.  And better ones, too.

Yeah, we've had our problems: I broke up with it for over a year because of its silly little games.  Like forgetting I placed an order. Or only placing a SINGLE chocolate chip in my Michelle [strawberry & chocolate chip] crepe.

I stop by whenever I'm in town, grab the table in the corner, and remember how good we had it.

It's not for everyone, but  it has its endearing quirks: cheap food that isn't fast food, smoothies, waffles, small tables & chairs, newspapers other people left behind, and the opportunity to hear Johnny Cash, Metallica and Broadway showtunes in one sitting.

Massively overrated and thoroughly average.

I'm convinced the only reason La Creperie is so popular is the confluence of proximity to Brown University, the elitist gratification of frequenting a "neighborhood" establishment in an alley off an increasingly corporate Thayer, and the "you never forget your first (crepe)" effect.

While I've never had service problems and am fine with the alcohol-free dive bar atmosphere, I've never really liked their crepes either - the savory are bland and a bit oily, and the sweet are overly sweet. Once I got exposed to excellent, albeit more expensive, crepes (see Crepe Cafe and Wine Bar in Seattle) and I went back to see if perhaps I just hadn't had a taste for crepes before, my opinion was reaffirmed.

If you must have dessert for breakfast this is your place, but that's about the extent of its charm. If you must have the street cred, remember that you can talk about it without actually going.

Goths and Crepes.  You can't lose.  We've come here for lunch, for dinner, for latenight snack, with friends, with our kid, by ourselves, and we've sent friends here without us.  We've never had a bad experience or a bad crepe.  I like the apple and brie, or the spinach, brie, and cranberry.  My husband likes the banana and nutella and the one with the basil and fresh mozzarella.  My two-year-old son loves whatever you feed him and was very happy to eat crepes.

I also like the homemade lemonade, but be careful to ask for a small taste before you order it.  Sometimes it's too sour.

I have never had a bad experience with the staff.

Crepe was just horrible! i had tropical crepe and it had strawberry and apple in it!  whats so tropical about strawberries and apples? and the apple and strawberies were freezing!!     I think if i had nutella crepe or something i might have been like it because the crepe itself was well cooked and was thin.

Nutella makes me happy all the time. The one star off is for the crampy atmosphere. I feel constricted every time I go there. They really need to fix the seating there.
I was surprised that la creperie took credit cards- because of the grunginess of the restaurant- but they do- which makes me happy just like nutella!
Tricks for trade: don't get the savory crepes they aren't that great and park wisely

I'm giving La Creperie four stars because I've almost always have had good luck here, and I essentially grew up on their crepes, my mother started taking me there since I was a pissy five year old. Little did I know how much I fit it.

The people who work there are a little bratty, the people who go there are a little bratty, and it is a bit hard to find (which I consider to be a good thing) if you don't know East Providence.

However, this place is great because the food is good, and they play good music, and because it is small and genuine. The people that work there are pretty crazy, possibly RISD students or artsy locals, who are always talking loudly about their alternative and drama filled lives. I'm the type of person who isn't bothered by that sort of thing, but if you don't like to hear the f-bomb over your crepe eating, and you are super picky about people getting everything right, then this may not be the place for you. Or your children. Under 2 is probably ok because they don't know what is going on anyway.

OK CREPERIE, YOU LOST 2 STARS FROM MY PREVIOUSLY GOOD REVIEW.

Behind Au Bon Pan is this shop that barely fits 10 people inside, called La Creperie.
The menu is not too extensive (a simple list of savory and sweet crepes, 3 waffles and drinks), but that is easily compensated by CUSTOM ORDERING. You can ask for a combination of whatever they have available to satisfy your palate.

The downside to this is that if they actually remember with accuracy what to add to your crepe, the chances are they'll burn it.

Or maybe forget that you ordered a crepe completely.

Or maybe they'll also be rude when you remind them about that crepe they forgot about.

...I still don't understand how this is considered "night life," since this place isn't open very late. Its hours seem to be dependent on whether or not someone shows up to work there. Sketchy sketchy !

Whether it is a crepe, a wrap, or a smoothie that you are in the mood for La Creperie is the place to go. Conveniently located off of Thayer St. on Providence's East Side with a bit of something for everyone! Also open late night, why not try something other than the all night diner after the club...

Bon Appetite!

This was great, but please note - I only tried two dessert crepes.  The first was filled with nutella, the other with raspberry jam.  I thought the price was a bit spendy when I paid the dude but once I got my food I could see it wasn't at all.  The two crepes made a great sweet snack for me and my two companions, nicely browned and flavorful but not too sweet at all, which was amazing because they were not skimpy with the filling.  If I lived nearby I could see myself going to this place all the time.  If you are in Providence you are missing out if you don't go here.

A friend and I found this cute off the path Creperie while we were walking the downtown area a couple weeks ago.

I love crepe's and so does she, and she had a coupon from the Enterainment book too, which they took!

Loved the crepe I got and my friend loved hers!  When I am in town again I will definitely visit again.

I hit up the place for the occasional dessert crepe.  The place is tiny - there's only a few tables and a couple of stool seats at the counter. It looks like it's run by either Brown or RISD students.  They play cool music.

I always get either the Connie (nutella + bananas) or the Leslie (strawberries + bananas + honey).  Their smoothies are very good too.  Not expensive but not incredibly cheap.   Go try this place.  You'll love it.  Thank me later.

When I order a crepe I want to hear Punk Rock (I'm funny that way) and here I hear it! I like the crepes well enough, I do find it to be a bit creepy that you are sitting so close to other people but I have eavesdropped on some fabulously insane conversations! I took a teenaged girl there recently and she practically swooned over one of the guys working there.  It is better to go during the summer when you can sit outside on the beautiful Fones Alley and enjoy the fresh air and view of the dumpster acroos the alley!

Seems to be it for crepes in Providence!  Too bad but they are pretty good.  I like the savory crepes.  The sweet ones are too sweet for my taste.  Nice help. The owner chick is a little on the gruff side. The place is VERY small get used to being at the table next to you.

We made a special trip to try these crepes and were very pleased.  It wasn't the easiest place to park at, but it was a short walk from where we did.  The place is just as small as everyone says.  The crepes were incredible!  I had a sausage/red pepper/mozzarella crepe that I'll be craving another for a while.  For dessert, I had the banana/chocolate chip/whipped cream crepe, and it too was wonderful.  I haven't had any thing like these since visiting Paris.  Prices were very good, about 5 bucks.  They also had smoothies and waffles.  Great place to visit if you are in the area.  Definitely worth it.

Delectable sweet crepes for an affordable price.  Too bad its hidden in an alley, and can barely fit more than 10 people inside.  Definitely a place to drop by when in providence.

Ever since I tasted my first crepe one fateful night in Hollywood, CA with the inimitable Amy K., I've been on the lookout for a cheap and reliably good crepe place to call my own. La Creperie just might be that place. They have delicious crepes both sweet and savory (named with a curious system involving girls' first names that I will avoid overanalyzing) and the only decent smoothies in Providence that I am aware of. I've come here a good dozen times or so and have never been disappointed. They also offer Belgian waffles, wraps, and coffee that I have never tried. The space is cute, and the staff of hipsters keeps good music on at all times. It is a bit small and can get crowded, and one table is placed such that people have to reach over anyone seated there to get their knives, forks, and napkins, but those things shouldn't stop you from going.

Tucked away from Thayer St. in an alley, this is a great place for a little snack or dessert on a date, or to wolf down a savory crepe with all the breeding of a mule. The prices are a bit steep, but the quality is there as well. Excellent smoothies. Sometimes the hipper-than-thou vibe gets a bit wearing, but usually you can just get a chuckle at some of the clientele's expense.

ever since i moved to providence, i was disappointed by the lack of good food here.  maybe i've been spoiled living in los angeles where good and cheap restaurants run amuck.

la creperie was the only first food joint that changed my outlook. one of the best creperie places i've been to and i haven't been to that many.  but don't let that deter you from trying this place. the crepes are affordable and i find myself wandering in there sometimes.  the place is small and depending when you go, the 3-4 tables that they have might just fill up. i like to take people who come and visit me to this little place and they haven't been disappointed yet.
