Brentwood, CA
HELLA good. So there's not really any ambiance. I'm cool with picnic benches outside (with mist sprayers, a must for Brentwood!) as long as the food is good and cheap. And it is!
A big, giant, delicious horchata for a dollar. Can't beat that with a bat. Creamy, delicious enchiladas with tender chicken. Flavorful tamales. Piping hot quesadillas for the kids. This is my go-to for picking up hot food on a busy soccer night.
Cheap and easy. YES. -

Just had a late lunch here recently and the food is ok. Not the best I've ever had but just ok. I had two taco's de lengua and al pastor burrito. The tacos are on the small side but still good. The burritos are a decent size but they put too many onions in it. I don't know what happened but it was almost like a onion burrito! Every bite had a overwhelming amount of onion.
The out door patio is great but is infested with flies. Its really annoying when you're trying to eat all these flies are buzzing around your ear and your food. I would suggest you eat inside.
Its in expensive but you get what you pay for. -

Thank you yelp for finding me another gem. This place has hit the mark. It's better than most Mexican places in SJ and Hayward.... Tried the chicken, carnitas and shrimp and was not disappointed....thinking about going to la costa as I write this....

There is No better food that one can eat than a La Costa Burrito! So many people complaining about cash only, there is a bank about 50 yards from them, problem solved!

I will absolutely do an update to this review, but people need to know:
IT'S CASH ONLY!!! BE PREPARED. The next time I have the foresight to be prepared, I will let you know how the food is. I failed on the cash front last time. -

After living in San Francisco for over a year, the one thing, I mean the ONE thing I miss the most about Brentwood is La Costa.
Don't expect something fancy, don't expect a Chevy's, or Rich's, or anything else.
Only expect an amazing burrito or the lowest price-to-food ratio I've ever found. -

TACOS are the BOMB!!!!!
I came up from San Jose for the day to visit family and went here for Lunch. We all sat outside in the covered patio.
First I ordered a plate of 4 Tacos, 2-each, Carne Asada and Al Pastor!! YUM!!
A generous serving of meat, the tortillas weren't oily or greasy. Sometimes I've notice that the tortillas are greasy and the meat would be overloaded with onions and cliantro, but not here..
They were so good I ordered another plate! This time, 1- Shrimp, 1-Carnitas, 1- Lingua and a Al Pastor. All were Superb!!
Washed it all down with Honchata.
My family ordered burritos. Wow!! Great size, not overfilled rice & beans (filler) but great servings of meat...
Great prices all around!
Very fresh produce and taste!!
Enjoy!! -

I know it's cheap, but the quality doesn't have to be so poor.
I called in an order. when I arrived I noticed the "Cash Only" sign. Inconvenience, yes. Had to go to the bank to pull cash. that didn't bother me as much as our order getting messed up. we ordered 8 tocos total, a burrito and some nachos. I noticed our bill was a little much. I later found the reason... they gave us 15 tocos. the worst part is the food wasn't even close to decent. I don't expect much from a small taqueria, but the meat was very questionable and chips in the nachos were super stale. Yuck!
I'm sure there are plenty of other better taquerias in Brentwood. Wish that spot was still an A&W or Richs Drive-in. -

I love this place. Cheap food and they sell orange slice soda,(which is perfect with a burrito). I only wish it was closer to my house so I could go more often. The only thing is that it is cash only. 4.5 stars if I could.

Consistently good quality, great flavor, and quick service make this location a great choice for Mexican food in Brentwood. I started eating at La Costa in Tracy about 10 years ago, and the food is just as good today. I would give this location five stars, but since they don't have any mariscos (Seafood for you gabacos), they lose a star, I would like to find out why someday, I mean come on, the name is "The Coast".

La-la-la-looove their TORTAS!!!!! horchatas are good too... compare to the city, I have NOT found anywhere else in the East Bay that make their Tortas as good as the ones in the Sco!!! Con tanto sabor!!!! Yea, it's cash only( so what!!! Stop crying bout it) jus outta my way... Brentwood is a drive for me... But it's worth it, food is good, prices are just right!! :)

I've been here several times. I miss the hamburger place that use to be here a few years back though.
If you're passing through downtown Brentwood this establishment is an easy stop making it convenient. There's a good sized parking lot with 3 or so ways to get in and out. There is inside and outside dinning. Last summer there were an abundance of flies making it difficult to enjoy the good food they have to offer.
Heck if Craig K http://www.yelp.com/us... is still coming back after finding a fly in his food it has to be good.
Note: At the time that I wrote this Oak Street which boarders La Costa's is closed for repairs so the driveways on that side cannot be used. At the same time this provides more parking temporarily. -

We just stopped for lunch at La Costa thanks to all the yelpers! I have to add my vote to the awesomeness of this place. Yummy!!! Super fast service. Super affordable prices! My partner had 3 carnitas tacos. I had a carnitas, an asada, & a pollo. Added two drinks and our total was $10. The dinner plates were $6 & the burritos were $4. The kids menu had $2 & $4 items. All the tacos were really great & super simple with seasoned meat and cilantro & onion. They came with radishes & lime and they offered extra lime & radishes upon pick-up. My partner exclaimed 10 times (my son counted) how great the food was over the course of consuming the three tacos. La Costa is going to become our go-to place for quick & cheap mexican food!

Brentwood, CA
Best place EVER for inexpensive, quick Mexican food. This place is a standard for a Fri or Sat night to grab some chow, and take it home to sit down and watch a movie with the family.
Never had anything bad. The La Costa tostada is definitely one of my favorite quick, inexpensive meals of all time -

Best place in area for Mexican style tacos! Can't beat em for flavor or price. I don't like to dine in their "dining room"- it always smells like bleach. Oakley location has seafood options.

I LOVE La Costa. Their beans are everything that Mexican re-frieds should be. I typically get the Carne Asada burrito, sometimes in taco form, but usually burrito. Their prices are great, the portions are solid, and the food is awesome.
Why not a 5? Two reasons. One visit, a couple of years ago, I found a fly in my Bean and Cheese burrito, and my wife found a chunk of shrimp in hers. My wife is allergic to shrimp, and I'm opposed to flies in my food.
The counter guys are really friendly... makes me chuckle every time they call me "Boss". -
Review from Lisa T.
Cheap, authentic Mexican food served al fresco on their breezy patio. Gigantic carnitas platter ($7) comes with great beans, cheese, rice & 2 softly grilled flour tortillas. Tostada is heaped with fresh chicken and tons of avocado. Super burrito is something like $4 -- and that sucker's so vast it has its own zip code.
If you're spending a day out here picking fruit, definitely make this your lunch stop! -

You're in Brentwood, and you've just picked a boatload of cherries at one of the u-pick cherry places. Now, where you do eat? The choices seem to run from Red Robin to Jamba Juice and other strip mall favorites. We went with La Costa instead.
I'm being a bit generous with 4 stars, but given the alternatives, it really is a pretty good choice. I tried three different tacos and a chicken burrito. Yeah, that's right -- I'm a glutton. The tacos were ok, but not great. Lots of oil, and not enough (or any??) raw onion/cilantro on top. But the meat was flavorful and they hit the spot. The chicken burrito was inexplicably fantastic. They grill the tortilla and stuff the crap out of it with well-flavored chicken and other delectables. Was I dreaming or was there some cinnamon flavor in there? Maybe a funny little take on mole sauce? In any event, it was good.
Parting note: the horchata sucked. Don't bother. -

One word: Yuck!
This has to have been the worst mexican food and Jamaica that we've ever had (we being me and my boyfriend). I Love Love Love mexican food - You cant really go wrong - meat, beans, cheese, chips, salsa. This place couldnt even make a quesadilla right. Their chips were stale and their salsa inedible. My quesadilla barely had any meat and was over powered by lettuce and tomatoes. My boyfriends super burrito was not super or bueno. Their jamaica (hybiscus tea) tasted like cool aid. You also have to eat on disposable plates and styrofoam containers w/ sub par disposable utensils. Baskets and silverware would be much better!
I really want to like a place in Brentwood but I havent found a gem yet.
Sadly disappointed -

It's easy to get to, centrally located but the parking spots can be a little funky getting out of. The staff is usually quick, friendly, attentive and nice. The outdoor seating is always clean, decorated a bit and comfortable to sit around and wait for your food or eat.
Recently I had the chicken enchlilada plate in a green sauce. It was pretty cheap and definately worth the price. The green sauce was flavorful, a tad spicy and plenty of it. The chicken was juicy and wrapped in a perfect tortilla. Of course it was served with rice and beans. Not great but ok. Overall it wasn't amazing but it was good and good for the price.
I also tried some small tacos, now those were good! Juicy carna asada and really yummy! I'll order more of those in the future!
yum! -

Uhhhhh! I miss this place so much. Best Burritos I have ever had, or at least the best value. They are HUGE! Since High School this has been THE place. I cannot find it's equivalent in Hayward, Castro Valley, or San Lorenzo and I doubt there is one. Plenty of parking, Spanish/English, Vincente Fernandez, Cover from the rain, plenty of tables, friendly workers, close to City building.
Other reviews seem to be harsh. They must not have had it more than once. Don't be intimidated by the construction/landscaping workers, but you may have to show some backbone if you're white as milk or your girlfriend is hot. That's my only complaint but really not that big of a deal.
Another good place is Los Charros near Lucky's down the road a bit. But I'm telling you try it! -

Place is the shit. Not much more to say other than that.
Only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because they have Pepsi instead of Coke, and it's cash only. The rice and salsa could be better, but they're still better than most places. -

I discovered La Costa a few weeks ago and love it!! We are new to the area and love this taco hut for a quick meal. Their tacos are delicious and i love their taco salad. Good salsas, very affordable and the meat is not greasy!! Give it a try. It has become a family favorite!!

Yum! Just finished a Carne Asada Burrito and what was left of my wife's Carnitas Burrito. Very good. Packed with meat and other fixings. Not dry, not fatty, just plan damn good and cooked perfectly. The chips might not have been the best but the burritos made up for it. I kinda wish I had got a taco as well, just so I could have a few more bites of the deliciousness. The burritos were also big, which adds even more points to their score. Cash only however it keeps their prices down since they don't have to pay the CC companies.
Staff was friendly and the service was fast. My only complaint is that large drink could be bigger. -

This place is G~O~O~D, good! I'd been craving a burrito all day and finally DH went to La Costa to get some for us. Since we are still new in town we are trying to hit up all the little mom and pop places. We weren't disappointed in the one at all. The burritos were really good. Tons of flavor, not dry or fatty. In every bite you got a little bit of everything, not just rice or a glob of sour cream. The chips weren't the best, but really do you go to a restaurant just for the chips, no (Well unless you are our 3 year old). DH also got Horchatia (SP) which was good, but why doesn't anyone carry Orange Bang like they do in Los Angeles? Man, now I could have a large Orange Bang now!
I recommend going here if you haven't tried it already. Bring cash! -

When this first opened (a few years ago now), everyone thought Brentwood needed another burrito place like it needed another hole in the head. Well, apparently we needed one, because this is the ONLY place to go! We love their burritos - carnitas, carne asada, pastor, you name it. If I want to eat "healthy", I order a tostada (snark). When my husband would travel on business, his first stop before he came home was always La Costa! Now we live in S. CA and have yet to find a place we like as much (Juanita's is close, but it's not the same). When we go back for a visit, we always have to work in a stop at La Costa.
We'll even eat there in the hot hot summer, choosing between the cooling misters on the patio or the air-conditioned but cleanser-smelling indoors.
The guys that work there are always friendly and always hustling - cleaning up, making orders. They work HARD. -

If you've ever had the taco that licks back, this is the place to get them. The Lengua is moist and tender, onions and green salsa make this dish delish! Everything is reasonbly priced, place looks clean.

best al pastor ever, a little too cinnamon-y sometimes but normally right on! Yummy beans and awesome cerviche. Actually everything I have had there is yum! If only they had Coke instead of Pepsi!

Denver, CO
This place is one of the best mexican places you will find anywhere!! They have several locations throughout the Bay Area, I mostly just go to the BW and Oakley locations cause that's my hood. The Brentwood location is the better of the two.
La Costa is basically a taco cart that has settled into a real location. The $1.25 tacos are the thing to get. Each kind of meat gets it's own kind of sauce, onions and cilantro. Served with lime, jalapeno and a radish wedge, like they should be.
There are small differences between locations, the specialty at this location is the carnitas. Don't fuck with the combo plates, that shit is overpriced for the suckers that go to a mexican place and say "what kind of combo plate can I get?" The 4 tacos for $5 is the way to go, or an a la carte burrito. The quesidillas are really good too, but they are really messy and huge, basically a burrito pressed flat with cheese.
You are going to want to try the Carnitas, Carne Asada, or Al Pastor. The Al Pastor is really good, it's cooked in a spicy mexican-style barbeque sauce as opposed to a dry marinate like some places do, so an Al Pastor burrito is best eaten with a fork & knife.
This is the place to go, I never go back to Brentwood without at least 3 La Costa visits. -
Review from Mark H.
Brentwood, CA
La Costa is THE taco place to eat at. I travel to Baja twice a year and only at La Costa can I get that same Baja taste and freshness or REAL mexican food.
Sure the inside is not the cleanest, who cares the outdoor seating is perfect on a warm day.
The downfall is as of 2004 they can't sell beer anymore so BYOB. We often bring a small cooler and sit in the corner and are never hassled.
Things to get:
A wet burrito in a green sauce is very good.
The tacos can not be beat.
In some months oysters are only a buck each and are fresh and awesome!
La Costa is also cash only, like most of Mexico. -

We love their burritos. They are H U G E, and a great value. The chicken is not all white meal, so don't expect it to be so. The carnitas are excellent! You can personalize your burrito too; they will add or take away to make it just how you like it.
No indoor seating; take out with a few outdoor seats. But fast service and great when you're hungry for a big fat burrito! -

Not your average Mexican food, flavors are authentic. I love the BBQ pork!
