I still think La Corneta is the best taqueria in town but I know have further evidence to back it up! My friends and I arranged a "burrito tasting" to test out the city's finest burritos for ourselves. Each person brought one regular chicken burrito from a different taqueria - there were 12 restaurants represented (including El Farolito, Papalote & Little Chihuahua). One friend sat out and numbered the burritos so the tasting would be blind. After trying each burrito, we rated them on a scale from 1 to 5. La Corneta came out the clear winner with an average rating of 4.25 (the only burrito to have an average rating of over 4).
The moral of the story is: La Corneta is supreme! And hosting a burrito tasting is a great way to spend an evening :)Listed in: Glen Park Gems

Best tostada (referred to as a taco salad bowl at some restaurants...?)
The shell of the tostada is fluffy, crispy greatness.
Excellent selection of meat and seafood.
The empanada was not very good. especially since it cost close to a baby burrito. -

Things definitely got more pricy than usual. I live in the area. The menu is great. the quesadillas are always bomb, and the super burrito you can't go wrong. Carne asada extra spicy or el pastor meat..yum. I personally really like the carne asada and shrimp special cause its a crap load of food and the carne asada is cooked perfectly in large pieces (not the chopped kind that they put in the burrito). Horchata is grainier than most places, but i think thats how its supposed to be. anyways go with the dish i just told you, you'll love it.
they also only take cash now i believe.. new policies.. ehh -

First time coming here and there was so many choices I didn't know what to choose! At the end I got a carne asada quesadilla and my bf got a chorizo super burrito. His burrito looked so freaking good, I bet it tasted even better, but unfortunately I didn't manage to get a bite before my bf inhaled the whole damn thing. ANYWAYS, my quesadillas was good, but wasn't mind blowing. It was huge though, may I add. Haha. Anyways, the meat was super tasty, cheese was very melty, wasn't as spicy as I hoped but I guess that's what tapatio is for! Although tasty, it didn't look as yummy because there was all this juice, everywhere. It made my quesadillas soggy on the bottom which I didn't like. But whatever, I'm not THAT picky, I ate the whole damn thing in the end anyways. Haha.
Well next time I come here I'm definitely getting the tacos. I was so torn between the quesadillas and taco, so this place deserves another try. -

Cheap lunch or dinner that tastes great!
For years I've dismissed this place as another Mexican restaurant in a city that's full of them. After hearing my brother rave about the burritos, I had to see what the hype was all about. Walking in, the decor was what really convinced me that this place was mediocre. The line, yep there's usually a line, goes by quickly and you better know what you want to order. The menu board is huge with options for burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and plates. The offer so many different kinds of meat. They also have other items like empanadas displayed on the counter.
Spinach tortilla super chicken burrito with everything and hot salsa is what I order. Loads of juicy chicken with a ton of fixings wrapped in a spinach tortilla which makes me feel better about myself after eating it.
Super nachos are always good to share. Basically everything in a burrito substituting the tortilla for the chips and no rice.
The quesadillas are no joke either. It's basically a flat burrito minus the beans and rice.

Why the eff is this place always so crowded? Is it the burritos or what? Okay, so I think as far as Taquerias go, this is a solid joint. A good place to eat if you're going to go to the dive bar next door. A solid three stars for being consistant - NOTHING special here though. Wtf do they make that's different than your run of the mill taqueria?

Located 2 blocks from the Glen Park BART, La Corneta Taqueria offers a variety of burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos and other plates for purchase. Food is sometimes a little pricey, but they have a great deal of selection in terms of meats, beans, and toppings & have tasty offerings. Their shrimp burritos are the bomb!
They usually have a fairly long line, but it moves quickly on most occasions. Décor is typical taqueria drudgery, and I usually take my food to go and eat once home.
Overall, good food + a welcome neighborhood food option -

Daly City, CA
My FAVORITE taqueria in the city - now that I'm older and visiting Taquerias sober and during normal dinner hours. It may not be as authentic - what with the spinach tortilla options - but you can't go wrong with a Super Burrito with Carne Asada + Shrimp. Ah-mazeballs. The green (spicier) salsa that they provide on the tables in squeeze bottles is the best part - make that meal as spicy as you want it. There's usually a line, and I've stood in it when it went out the door, but it goes pretty fast. Plus you'll need the time to check out the extensive menu, and decide what you want to order. Parking can be a little difficult, but it's not as impossible as other San Francisco neighborhoods.

This is another one of those places that used to be good. When they first opened, the employees were friendly, prices were decent and the owner would bring you samples of salsas he was creating. Now, the lines are long, the employees rude because I refuse to speak the "other oppressor language" while ordering, they short on salsa, chips, ignore you when you are trying to order more food. I used to get a super quesadilla and eat it for two meals for $8.00. Now it's 10 and I guess if the rude workers would give me chips and salsa, maybe i wouldn't notice how small the portions got and how the quality of the food has good downhill.
FYI Burritos are not Mexican food. They were invented in San Francisco. I don't eat something i can make in 15 minutes better at home. -

Review from Sandy L.
We came here last night after spinning class and this place is just AWESOME. I mean really, for $17 you get a HEAPING super nachos and super burrito. It's literally overflowing and oozing everywhere and it tastes even better than it looks!! We literally had a meal for 3 people and everyone would have finished with the "OMG, I'M SO FULL" look in their face...haha
They have options for regular flour, corn or spinach tortilla with all of the normal toppings. They cook everything FRESH and to order so you never have to worry about having old food sitting in the warmers. Also, they have AMAZING homemade salsas with at least a handful of different types depending on if you are the mild to super spicy salsa lover.
This is a great little addition to the Glen Park area I just hesitate to rave about this place TOO MUCH because it already has a line out the door and once you go you'll always want to go back! -

I've been going to La Corneta for about ten years now, and it's still my favorite taqueria. I like that they offer baby burritos. The staff is really friendly, and the food is always fresh. There are a few different locations, including one in Burlingame, but this one is my favorite.

Love this place. The food is good and worth staying in line for. They're extremely busy at dinner time, so expect a line that goes around the place.
The only issue I have is do not call in your order. They will make hella mistakes every time. -

Tofu burrito with everything and green salsa. That's all you need to know. Perfect every time. I don't live in SF anymore, so now I must dream about this burrito from afar. Yet every time I come back to visit, there it is, in all of its perfect glory.
I've been going to this place for years and it's awesome. I crave it. I want it. Give it to me. -
Review from Rob P.
Taquerias in San Francisco are a dime a dozen and everyone has their favorite. Most neighborhoods have a couple... some neighborhoods there are 3 on the same block. For my money, La Corneta is my clear favorite.
THE TOPPINGS
This is what makes the the burrito, taco, nachos, etc
Chorizo - 5 out of 5 - This is the first place I ever had chorizo and it kind of ruined me. Every other time I had it I could never understand why it was never as good as here. The chorizo is fresh and home made. It is also one of the few toppings that are cooked to order. Admittedly its a little greesy... but DAMN it's good!
Carne Asada - 5 out of 5 - Juicy, tender and flavorful. You can't go wrong. It isn't cooked to order but if you told me it was I would believe you.
Shrimp - 4 out of 5 - Fresh and cooked to order. The shrimp themselves are very good but in most dishes I've had they tend to get a little drowned out by all the other ingredients. You can also order half shrimp and half Carne Asada (my preference)
THE FOOD
Super Burrito (or Baby Super Burrito) - 5 out of 5 - If you're a fan of mission style burritos then it doesn't get much better than this. Each one comes with your choice of meat and beans, rice, lettuce, cheese, salsa, sour cream and guacamole. The price for a Super Burrito is a little higher here than a lot of other taquerias at around $7 but it is worth it. The burritos are huge and super tasty. If you want a smaller burrito at a cheaper price go with the Baby Super around $5. Its still a large meal and for me, just the right size
Super Nachos - 4 out of 5 - All the awesomeness of the super burrito but over chips. The super nachos here are pretty good, one thing I'm not a fan of is that they put the beans, rice and cheese on first then microwave the package so the cheese melts. I often ask them to skip this step as it tends to make a lot of the chips soggy. Other than that, the serving is huge and very good.
LOCATION
The restaurant is a block away from the Glen Park Bart station and packing can be a little tough (thought not north beach tough). The restaurant is a good size but be prepared to wait in line. During peak meal hours the line can be out the door and seating can be a little tough as well so be prepared to take it to go.
OVERALL
Despite a few small hiccups, I have yet to find another mexican restaurant where I crave something as much as I do their Chorizo Super Burritto. Hope you give this place a try!Listed in: Hole in the Walls (SF)

Review from Luba P.
It's alittle pricey but I love the enchilada dinner plate (one shrimp, one steak) and a side of fresh cantelope juice (total= $12). The line moves fast and like another review said they are consistantly good. Except if you turn around you might miss out on sour cream on your enchiladas. Overall it's a decent place but not amazing...the shrimp enchiladas are my favorite and I would recommend trying their home-made juices (that sounds dirty doesn't it?)
Pro Tip: you can park for free behind the building in the parking lot. -
Review from Sally Y.
San Francisco, CA
Pretty pricey! I used to love La Corneta but now I feel like their food is overpriced and mediocre. Honestly, it used to be better (and cheaper!). Also, they've become pretty skimpy on the chips and salsa. Whenever I order a bunch of items, they'd give me enough chips to feed only one person. You would think they'd understand that a big order = many people = a need for more chips.
Super baby burrito is pretty big and costs $5.50, which is an acceptable price. BUT!! Beware of their specialty burritos, which cost about $8.95-9.95. I just don't think a burrito should cost that much..sadly, I ordered a beef/shrimp specialty burrito once because I thought it was a rice dish! My fault for not reading the menu closely... ;(. I ate it, and it really wasn't anything to rave about. Not worth the money. I am sticking to the baby burritos.
If I was new to La Corneta, I would say that it's "good" but, unfortunately, I know that their food and service has gone downhill over the years to the "mediocre" level. -

Amazing, super nice (at least the employees who have been there for the longest).
I love the Super Shrimp anything. There are so many options in regard to the menu. The only downside is that their chips always fall apart, but hey they are free.
I wish I remember the name of the cashier-she sometimes makes burritos too. She was amazing they always earn their price and tip =)
Thanks -

This is by far the best place for Burritos.. I've been coming here for over 5years and the food is still great! I always get the spicy prawn burrito on spinach tortilla.! It is off the hook!! The spicy prawn quesadillas are also delish! They don't get 5 stars because 3-5 times they get my order wrong, specially if you call it in. They also have a location on 22nd and Mission but that place is no where near as good. Not only is the food different but the service isent so good... For some good Mexican food La Corneta is your place! (try the one on Diamond st if possible)

Came here on Friday night after trying to find a place near Glen Park BART to get a quick meal. Saw the Yelp sticker on the window and the large amount of people eating here. Crowds don't lie, right?
Well the experience was quite mediocre with everything from the overpriced food (almost $10 for a super burrito) to the food itself (why are there PEAS in my Super Burrito?!)
With that being said, its decent food at a high cost. I would suggest walking your butt down to Mission and eat better Mexican foodComment from Joel C. of La Corneta Taqueria 11/7/2011

This is my favorite Mission taqueria that's not in a truck. The stationary location lends the restaurant plenty of space to sit down and enjoy the band that sometimes frequents La Corneta on the weekend. The burritos are amazing.

I have been eating here pretty regularly for the past few weeks, so it would suffice to say the food is good...but that was until I watched them make my grilled chicken salad!
First, it's made differently each time...I'm never quite sure how big it will be or what ingredients will be used...and second, last night I discovered that they are handling all of the ingredients with bare hands...I don't know about you, but there is something about a woman with dirty fingernails digging in my lettuce that makes my skin crawl...As I watched this atrocity, she then drenched my salad in dressing...I usually get it on the side...I didn't think she was going to drown my salad...
When I told her that I wanted the dressing on the side, she let out this sigh and begrudgingly shoved the contents of the plate into the trash...like it took her an hour to put the thing together and I was imposing upon her...WTF guys?
Is it too much to ask for them to wear some gloves while handling the food and to get a little friendly service?
Anyway, the burritos are good...my boyfriend orders the especial with chicken all the time. I will stick with my tostada (black beans, grilled chicken, salsa and guac...no rice!). So much for salads at La Corneta...No glove...no love!!! xoxoxoxoxo -

Ahh yes!
That's my usual mental outcry when I am behind the wheel heading to this wonderful burrito store! I don't care what anyone else says: this is the best I've tasted on a consistent basis. You hear that yelpers?! The best. I've been to other spots in the Bay that were tasty, BUT not consistently. I hate being a repeat customer somewhere that doesn't deliver after the first bite. What's better than knowing you'll be full and happy every time you drop in?...like I said the best.
Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, combo plates...they're all a hit. They've got plenty variety on tortillas, beans and meat- oh by the way ALL FRESH every day! I read someones review on here crying wah wah about the meat not being cooked right in front of them, yet they also complain about waiting in line? WTF do u want? They make their meat fresh every morning and cook a new batch once the first ones gone because they go through that much carne a day. Yeah, they got it like that.
P.S. Any seafood WILL be cooked before your bug eyes.
Chicken in spicy red salsa (pollo en salsa roja) grilled chicken (pollo asado), and grilled steak (carne asada) are the usual suspects for me and Mmm ay que rica are they yum yums on my tongue tongue! I'm yet to try out they carnitas but I'm sure that's crackin too! And the prawn(camaron) anything is delicioso!
Melon (cantaloupe) and strawberry drinks are miraculous to the last drop, and horchata is thirst quenching. Top that off with quick, friendly service and what do you get kids: 5 stars! Count 'em: 1,2,3,4,5. In the words of Flavor Flav: yeaaaahhhhh booooiiiiii, wooooooowww
Fair warning: cash only. B of A 15 ft away, wells Fargo across the street. -

The is just as good as any of the taquerias in the Mission. Lines get pretty long and they do not take credit cards, but other than that you will not be disappointed.
We often get the Baby Burritos for the kids which are just the right size and I am partial to the garlic prawn plate. I have never heard of anyone not liking what they have ordered so I think you can't miss. -

I got into an argument with a friend about the guac here. He said it has sour cream in it and I said of course it doesn't. I ended up calling the restaurant and they said it does have dairy in it. Weird!
I agree with other reviewers that it's a bit pricier than other places. It's totally decent, but nothing about it wows me like El Toro. I prefer El Toro.Comment from Joel C. of La Corneta Taqueria 9/29/2011

They don't appear to serve breakfast burritos, but neither La Corneta nor I was upset about the massive, al pastor super burrito that I ate at 10 am.
Believe me, this log of deliciousness will kill your whole day, but you'll love every second of it. Although, I highly recommend sharing with your girlfriend, otherwise she will bitch at you all day long for making her get her own food, when she and three of her friends could've just shared yours and you'd all be satiated.
I love the creamy salsa verde on the tables, as well as all their house salsas (get the grilled one!).
I wish there was some pineapple in the al pastor (is that not standard everywhere?), but the pork was tasty enough. Whenever I'm out in Glen Park, I'd never say no.Listed in: san francisco treats., san francisco eats.

Review from Johnny G.
Was originally going to give it 3 stars but I had the runs as soon as I got home. The meat was already premade and cooked so that already brought the rating down to 3 stars. I usually like the meat made fresh on the spot but since I was already here, I wasn't going to leave now. The only good thing about this place is them putting lettuce in the burritos. I've always liked lettuce in my burritos because they gave it that crunch.
Service was horrible! The lady that worked the register was extremely rude. I asked for salsa and the lady just tossed it onto my tray. They give you a bunch of chips but only 1 little container for salsa (I even had to ask for it).
Overall, I probably wouldn't come here again.
***Parking***: Street only. It may be a bit tough to find parking since it is a busy street.

Enchiladas and a mexican coke. At the end of a long day, I always love stopping by La Corneta if no one's up to cooking that night.
With generous portions and solid flavor, I can't really complain about much. I usually go for either pork enchiladas or the quesadilla. You can't go wrong with either one.
The line does tend to get incredibly long at the end of the day when people are looking for a bite to eat after getting off work, but the employee's move fast.
It's cash only, but there's a B of A ATM next door if you ever forget while progressing towards the cash register. -

My best friend lives down the street and swears this is the best place in the city. I think he says this because he's convinced himself it is because it's close to his house. While I won't be a hater to his face, I will say....'meh!' It was ok, long line on a Sunday afternoon...which made me excited that it may be pretty awesome. I ordered the Super Burrito and the meat was ok, and the salsa was just ok. I'm not picky by any means, but I have had some bomb mexican food and this wasn't it.
My buddy always gets the tamale...maybe I'll try that next time. It is conveniently located right next door to GPS...the only bar in this neighborhood, so that is a perk. The people who work here are lovely and super nice.
Salsa and Steak can really make or break your Mexican restaurant. I would have them perfect these two things and this place could maybe be a fav of mine. -

Heck ya! This place is da Bomb, we ordered a steak and mushroom quesadilla and the steak and prawns super nachos and boy were they good. They do not skimp on anything here, loved the heaping mountain of pico de gallo and guacamole. The carne asada is awesome as are the prawns. Portions are huge and absolutely loved the fresh sauces on the table. The menu is extensive so we will definitely be back to try other items.

I love that this place has the Baby Burrito option. I'm a pretty petite girl and I don't always have the appetite or will power to finish a regular sized burrito, so this option is perfect.
I usually get the Carne Asada Super Baby Burrito -- Carne Asada, Beans, Rice, Meat, Cheese, Guacamole, Sour Cream, Lettuce, Tomato & Salsa. The Tortilla Chips are pretty good too.
I also have to mention that the owner's idea of putting salsa in squeezable bottles is legen-dary. -
Review from Lauren T.
I straight up don't understand the hype and good reviews. I've been here twice and everything I've tasted is WAY too salty. The beans, the rice, the cicken verde, the chicken mole, the carnitas...so so salty. The garlic shrimp isn't, but it's somehow sharp and crunchy....
I like the sevice and the "build you're own ___" aspect, and I wish I could give it a better review, but I'm gonna go drink a whole lot of water instead. -

I am NOT a burrito fan. My husband recommended this place, his words exactly "Best burrito in SF." Instead of my safe cheese quesadilla, I order a burrito.. I don't remember the name.. it had cheese, rice, salsa.. meat.. beans. It was the best burrito I have ever had. The meat (pork) was moist and tasty, along with the refried beans and rice.
When I came there was not much of wait... maybe 2 patrons in front of me. I definitely see myself coming here again soon! -

Te amo, La Corneta.
Back in 1995 when La Corneta opened their doors I was still living down the street. I never forget how friendly the owner was. He would even pass me a free beer with my burrito.
How cool is that? I'll tell you right now. Give me a free drink and serve good food and you are going to have a customer for life. I always appreciate kindness shown to me.
Along with the kindness, La Corneta has stayed consistent. The salsa at the tables is great. Chunky salsa that comes with the chips is refreshing. The food is always fresh and like Anchorman Ron Burgundy said: "This burrito is delicious but filling." It's not to be compared with other Taquerias. Who has the best burrito is a useless debate, like asking who has the best burger. How about they are both good, just different.
The one and only spot for Mexican food in Glen Park.
I love La Corneta. Good people. Good Food. Life is Good.

I've ONLY been here because of fellow yelper Annie L. and her praises of this taqueria when i've always insisted of going elsewhere because of the lack of parking and such.
I've gotten their burritos, and the only thing making it last is their rice that has peas and carrots. what a genius idea!? its like fried rice in a burrito almost. -

So my sister-in-law told me about this place, but I never found the time to actually go there...until now.
When we arrived, the line was super long! It curved around & the end of the line was near the register. I thought, "Must be good!" Haha. It wasn't a long wait at all.
I ordered a Carne Asada Super Burrito = YUM! Can't go wrong with that.
We luckily found 2 tables to put together so we all could sit together. There's salsa bottles at the table. What a convenience!
Service was great. The owner (I think he was the owner) even came up to our table to check if we needed anything. Didn't expect that, but THANK YOU :)
Parking is a little tough in the area, but it's nothing to stress about. -

San Francisco, CA
Absolutely alright. Despite a flawlessly constructed burrito, excellent heat and good guacamole, this taqueria didn't impress me. The tortilla was steamed (not grilled), the cheese was unmelted and my burrito included lettuce, an offense which automatically consigns this burrito to 3 star meh-ness. So much was good, yet so much more could have been better.
Salsa was very nice, however!
