Accidentally stumbled across La Colombe while wandering around the city. I would have walked right by it, but the wonderfully intense and inviting smell of coffee was too much to ignore.

Staff was super friendly and they made my coffee pretty fast. My to-go cup was placed on the counter with a dish and a REAL metal spoon! That was a pretty nice touch on their part.

Coffee was strong and flavorful. As an earlier Yelp-er pointed out... this is the kind of place you automatically think to yourself, "oh yes, I'm going to treat you very well on Yelp when I get home."

Whenever I'm in Philadelphia, my friends always make a point of telling me that the cafe we're going to serves La Colombe, or that the coffee they've brewed for me in the morning is La Colombe, and I've always just smiled and nodded as if that were meaningful.  Well, I am here to tell you now that it is meaningful!!!

What was once a Philadelphia thing is happily now a New York thing, and La Colombe has conveniently made its debut on Lafayette & Prince--literally the geographic center of below-14th St Manhattan (the best part!).  It's bright and clean, and the staff are down-to-earth, friendly, and nice.

And the coffee!!  No joke, my Americano was easily one of the best I've had in NY.  Nutty and full-bodied, with a nice thick crema on top, not to mention very reasonably priced at $2.50.  When I decided a little later to try one of their pastries, the owner said to me, "Why don't you have a little sampler?  We're about to close, they're on the house."  **

Q: Is there anything better than surprise free things??
A:  No there is not, especially when said free things are a moist raspberry financier and a flaky almond croissant.

La Colombe, you are quality and class through and through!!  Welcome to New York.

** Yelpers, do you ever have those moments when you're at a restaurant or whatever and someone just does something so awesome, and you find yourself thinking, "Baby, I'm going to be so good to you on Yelp tomorrow, you have no idea..."?  This was one of those moments.

I always seem to get pulled in for a regular client meeting at this cafe. A tiny seating area with great cubism mural wall painting, horizontal view mirrors to open up the space. Good interior, coffee, view of Soho bustling with people.

If you're looking forward to a visit, don't walk to fast now, you might just miss this small cafe entrance!

Many people have been beaten into submission by the overwhelming number of Starbucks in the city, but a simple cup of coffee from La Colombe will remind you why you must stay strong and resist the Starborg.  Compared to La Colombe, Starborg coffee tastes like it has been filtered through a pee-stained pair of hobo jeans.

If you need strong, serious, no-frills coffee this should be your destination.  They use high quality beans and know how to make a good cappuccino or latte.  I also really love that they make simple syrup using Sugar In The Raw.  Its kind of too modern inside, its really only built for a short stop during the day, or take out, because the seating area is small and not so comfortable.  The staff is very nice, and knowledgeable about coffee.  Also, very nice china if you're dining in (see pictures).

YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

I typically do not drink coffee but I was SUPER jetlagged and tired flying in from a red eye to New York. The mocha latte I ordered instantly hit the spot and kept me awake for hours! :D SO much so that I was able to explore Brookyln and even have energy to hang out at night!

Ambiance: Well lit by the natural sunlight coming in from the large glass windows. There are a few tables - about 5 or so, so it's a small but cozy place. :) Very minimalistic too, which is conducive for reflecting, thinking, mediating, etc etc  =)

The eats: I didn't have a pastry, so not sure how they are. But the drinks were fabulous. The mocha was one of the best dark chocolates I've had and the espresso was definitely not too strong. If anything, it just added to the chocolate flavor. mm mm! They also have raw sugar and syrup. :) Oh...and they made a heart in my drink, a nice touch!

The price:  Pretty pricey for the drink, I'd beware living close to here because I'd definitely frequent it more --- especially noteworthy because I don't drink coffee unless I have to!

Overall, a wonderful find. You'll not only enjoy your drink, but the time you spend there and the pleasant walk you'll have back or to wherever you're going!

Ed F, I'll give it to you. This place's coffee does live up to your hype. I walked by a sister shop in TriBeCa recently. Hopefully their expansion won't mean the sacrifice of diluted coffee.

Finally, good pastries and good espresso at the best place in Manhattan.

We are getting there..., coffee shops have to mix french style and seattle style..., good, perfect but after all, a cultural place.

La Colombe Torrefaction's Soho location was a hidden gem until NOW -- you'd never even notice this small artisinal espresso bar located between the G-Star Raw and WESC stores on the Western side of Lafayette).   Yes, I am spilling the [coffee] beans!

The staff are always chipper, friendly and inviting--they serve EXCELLENT espresso drinks (with the latte artwork0 and drip coffee.   If you order an Iced Coffee they top it off with a shot of espresso...superb!  The morning pastries from Ceci Cela are fresh, delicious and mandatory breakfast eats!

This is my DAILY stop on the way to the office.....I hold meetings with trainees here, I close clients here....and COFFEE IS FOR CLOSERS.

My friend from Philly always talked about their roasts where they are originally from. Personally i had no idea they were already in new york but I guess there were a bunch of places including this one in Soho.

But I was really happy with the latte i had. $3.50 for a medium size, standard for a well made one and with Le Colombe beans, sure, why not.

The beans were well roasted and the bitterness wasn't overwhelming and at a perfect level. Mixed with the frothed organic milk it was a perfect combination. And I can never go without a touch of torbinado sugar. Its something about it that brings out the flavors.

The atmosphere can be worked on though, in this location. Its a bit too metalic and unwelcoming. everything just echos and its not a comfortable place to stay. But hey, the latte's good and thats all that we can do. Highly recommend.

Friends in the hood have been telling me about this place for a few weeks.  Finally tried them out this morning.  It's a very minimal space and I humbly asked..."do you have drip coffee???" as that's my preference for any coffee-related beverage.

Gentleman immediately filled a cup, placed a spoon and saucer on the counter.  I then ordered one of their 'sweet cheese danishes'...made my coffee with the cream and sweeteners they had on the counter and left back to my place to enjoy it.

The danish was devoured in all of ten seconds it was so tasty, and the coffee...absolutely top notch!

In a neighborhood where Starbucks and Dean & Deluca exist a block apart, it's good to have another place so close that has amazing coffee.  Found a new spot for that early morning coffee/treat combo!

I will def. be back...only 4 stars right now because with just one experience there figured I'd write something rather than nothing.

I wandered in here the other day, initally drawn by the aesthetically pleasing minimalist design, and the Spanishsy name.  Turns out to be the NYC outpost of a Philadelphia-based coffee roaster.  Well, they turn out a damn fine cup of coffee, making this possibly the best thing to come out of that hellhole of a town since the Constitution (or maybe cheesesteaks).  They sell their beans, too.  Similar to FIKA in quality, price, and design.  Bonus points for having nice-looking coffee cups (not the paper ones).

Honestly, they had me at hello with the modern decor, cute matching cups and saucers, and friendly staff.  The fact that they made a killer americano and have the sense to buy fantastic baked goods (I had the cheese croissant) from a small local baker secured this 5 star review.  The seating might get a little awkward when it's crowded, but it wasn't when I was there.

Nice little boutique coffee shop in Soho. They take coffee seriously, nice to have in the neighborhood so i can avoid Starbucks. Coffee was good, not the best that i have had. But definitely a place to check out :)

They really can't make a good cappuccino, you get a latte instead like at so many other mediocre places in the city. They might have great espresso beans but it seems the baristas don't  understand the espresso to frothed milk ratio.
