2 reviews for La Casa Del Rey
The first review on here doesn' t know nuthin about nuthin! The green chile here, at Casa Del Rey, is the best in Denver. Better than Efrain's, better than Chubby's, better than Santiago's, and better than Jack-n-Grill.
It's an inexpensive (NOT CHEAP!) restaurant in Commerce City... They do what they can, but don't expect anything fancy. No need to dress up.
I recommend getting a smothered burrito or stuffed sopapillas. Order your chile half and half, unless you want to burn your tongue off!
What you need to understand when eating in an authentic "New Mexican" restaurant with delicious Pueblo style Green Chile, is that the Green Chile is the cashcow here. Anything with chile on it, is going to be good. Don't even think of coming here and not ordering the chile.
It's worth the drive. We drive a half an hour once a week to come eat here. I've never been disappointed.
Located right near Quebec and 72nd
Do it.
Michelle and I visited La Casa Del Rey on the recommendations of Co-Workers which reminded me why I trust Yelpers more!
When I was told a magical tale of how wonderful LCDR was and on and on they went, so you can see how I was lulled into a false sense of epicurean safety.
As we drove deeper and deeper into the smelly heart of Commerce City, the lull of David after the Dentist like droning of "Yeah you should definitely try it " started to wear off and we actually started to become concerned to be in such an unfamiliar place. When we finally happened upon the location the lack of streetlights and the unfamilar neighborhood made me wonder about the safety of my vechile.
Aside from the seedy location (-1 Star) we were seated fast and the in house Mariachi made it all the more inviting (+1 Star). It was my impression they didn't have A/C by the astronomical number of ceiling fans. That being said you may want to avoid them during the dogs days of summer.
Our waitress was very prompt and friendly (+1 Star) she helped us navigate their large menu. After finishing our one and only free bowl of chips and salsa, house rules? We ordered Margaritas, and after disappearing with my ID? returned with something that tasted like Gatorade and Tequila? Michelle's Strawberry flavored Marg was actually quite tasty but my Y chromosomes will not allow me to order fruity drinks. (-1 Star)
Our order came out suspiciously fast actually beat our appetizer to the table it tasted good although I have to melt of the last (-1 Star) for smothering what's supposed to be a crispy Chicken Chimichanga with copious amounts of sauce.
To sum it up If you live in Commerce City, first of all sorry, but this may be an excellent local choice for Mexican food. If you live in any of the surrounding area's I really don't believe it's worth the drive. (30mins for me) Stick with your local favorite which for me is Efrain's (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
