La Casa Camino just had an upgrade folks! They teamed up with ten surf companies and ten designers to create ten beautiful eco-friendly "Surf Suites."
My friend had the awesome opportunity to design the Etnies room. (Please come check it out!!) The rooms are beautiful! It's like Extreme Home Makeover budgeted these rooms. BIG MONEY!
I haven't stayed there yet and might stay for a local weekend getaway - the rooms are pretty pricey though (Range $250 a night I believe). I'd rather spend the money on food, who's with me on that one??
Staying here you'll have access to K'ya and the Rooftop Lounge, both scrumptious places.
Stayed there a while back for a romantic night, which wasn't.
*Although the hotel keeps it's old-time charm, you will be left wanting. They had not updated anything in the rooms and customers will want better service.
*From their most expensive room, as well as others, to look at ocean is to look right at a bunch of houses and residents bunched up in front of you....with people looking at you! Hotel cannot control what these people will be doing or how well they clean their balconies, porches and makeshift yards. That's too bad.
*The restaurant Kya and The RoofTop (both highly recommended for a good time) gets packed not because of the people in rooms (not many anyway), but outsiders visiting.
*Went there several times for appetizers, drinks and dining, but somehow, the Valet has disappeared. Had to find parking on my own. Is there valet or is there not? If not, many people will keep passing this place by.
Overall, service is ok and hotel is cute, but you will want to stay someplace else where all of your needs will be met. The roof hangout and restaurant is great, but other than that, you wont be too happy - especially if you have children or want more romance. You could always cab over to the Rooftop or Kya without renting a room there!

I love this place. I stay here a week a month when working in Irvine. The hotel has a comfy feel to it -- it feels like home, not a hotel. You need to know your rooms though -- don't get one on the first floor!
The restaurant is fantastic -- it's cheap and good! It's always packed here due to a rocking rooftop. It goes off from 2 PM-9PM every day all summer. If you're looking for a great sunset, chill vibe or a cougar -- look no further!
I am absolutely in love with this place! I try to get away here whenever possible, which usually every three months or so. It's walking distance to all the restaurants in Laguna and steps away from the beach. The rooftop is a must, especially in the summer months. I always look forward to my weekend getaways here.
Meh. I must say I was disappointed. The hotel seemed to be perfect; historic, pretty, beautiful inside, incredible location...but the service just sucked. I guess I am spoiled since I work at a 5-diamond hotel, but there are just so many little things they could change that would have made the experience so much better.
I went with my boyfriend for my birthday, thinking it would be a perfect mini-vacation. I'd made the reservations weeks in advance and told the girl that it was my birthday. We checked in (no greeting, no acknowledgment of the birthday, nothing special at all) and went to our room. It was clean, very (VERY) small, and had a view of the "courtyard," which you couldn't even see because the window only opened halfway. We spent the day out and about, and went up to the rooftop bar for cocktails. Oh my god, the view from up there was amazing. That was my favorite part of the hotel, but I didn't even have to stay at the hotel to go there! No evening housekeeping service ("What's turndown service?" said the front desk girl), and the room was super noisy. The bed was awful, you could feel the springs and the head was higher than the foot! Ugh.
I guess I'm nit-picking, but here are my suggestions:
Don't wear jeans when you work the front desk at a hotel.
Make your guests feel welcome!
Say happy birthday when someone has made a point of telling you.
Offer afternoon housekeeping (I guess for this price I can't really expect this, but it's still nice).
I honestly would have preferred to have just driven home and slept in my own bed. If you care about service, don't stay here. But if you want a great location right in the heart of Laguna, super close to the beach, and don't mind a small, noisy room, then this is the place for you.

So much about Orange County is plastic. The people, the buildings, the attitude. This place is not. It has character and history, genuine people, antique furninshing, and a fantastic restaurant. Perfect for a quick stop through Laguna Beach.
However, character only goes so far. The same thing that makes it charming makes it annoying to stay the night. The rooms are tiny and musty. They could combine two rooms into one and it would still be small. Modern conveniences you expect at these prices are just not there.
Funny, speaking of plastic, while I was there they filmed "The Real Housewives of Orange County" on the rooftop deck/bar. Do like the Housewives and hit the bar for drink but stay somewhere else.

As OC locals, we wanted a get-away weekend, so we booked the Superior Queen Room at La Casa Del Camino, which was described as a "corner room which offers a great view of the rolling coastline, these rooms offer a little more room that the deluxe, but maintain their intimate appeal."
When we got there, we had to enter through the side entrance because there was an event that day. Our promised oceanview room turned out to be a very tiny room with a small window that views the side of an adjacent building... and this was supposed to be one of the most expensive and attractive rooms available.
When we spoke to the front desk, they claimed that not all superior rooms have oceanviews. We ended up insisting on a refund because we can get a better room at a motel than the "Superior" room that was assigned to us. I would have wanted to have my wedding here, but I'm concerned about their honesty.

This hotel is a great find. Its got great decor, its not too big, and an incredibly beautiful location with a roof-top deck you'll love. Kya Restaurant is very good.
You will be well taken care of. The rooms aren't huge, but this is a really great deal with nice amenities for Laguna Beach.
This hotel is also pet-friendly - Laguna is a great place to bring your dog!
My wedding party stayed here for my wedding 2 years ago and I always get comments about what 'a great find' it was. Many have returned and many will continue to return!
It's not the Montage but it's right next to good ol' Brooke Street. If you want to just relax, surf, and eat in Laguna Beach, this is the place. The rooms are small but they are clean and do allow dogs, which is great because you can walk your dog on the beach after September. The restaurant in the hotel (Kya) is probably one of the best in the area. Great breakfast and great tapas all night long. They even let you sneak away desserts into your room... Other than that they offer free parking up the street. I would definitely go back again and again... Hard to do better for the price.
What a terrific view. My friend Michelle and I had drinks and shared the shrimp cocktail and the cheese plate. I absolutely recommend getting both with a nice glass of wine or champagne. We grabbed a seat at the bar around 4:30 and by the time we left at 6:00 on a Saturday it was getting pretty busy. The crowd was a little cheesy. If you have your own group you will have a good time. Michelle thought it was not the best place to find a prospective date.

I found this mini hotel really cute and charming. I liked that it was historic and small. It's built in the Mediterranean villa style of architecture. When we first walked in I liked that the lobby was compact. Not too small not too big juuuuuust the right size! I also took note of the fresh flowers and beautiful fresh arrangements. The entire lobby smelled great!
Our hotel room was on the bottom-bottom floor and a little smaller than I was expecting but it was well decorated and I felt comfortable in there. Well, not in the bathroom that was a little too small for my taste. You could sit on the toilet, put your leg in the tub, hold the doorknob and rest your head on the sink! That's a little too close for comfort for me. In fact while brushing my teeth and spitting I completely missed the sink and spit on the floor that's how tiny the sink was!
If you're a light sleeper this is definitely not the hotel for you! The plumbing is industrial strength or something. Anytime anyone flushes you'll hear it. The walls are PAPER thin so you'll hear all the cars, the sex in other rooms, people talking in other rooms and since our room was adjacent to an alley we heard the people who lived across the alley coming home, the trash truck in the morning, the cars driving down the alley and the people walking and talking in the alley.
We did catch a glimpse into another room which looked much bigger and roomier. Next time I'll make sure to ask for that room and hopefully the noise there isn't as much The hotel has a restaurant that we had breakfast at in the morning (see separate review) and there's a rooftop bar which we heard great things about but it was closed for a private party while we were there (boooo!) The hotel is also just a few steps away from a staircase leading down to the beach.
We (my husband and I) just got back from a weekend here. Never again! If it wasn't for the location, and the front desk girls were nice, they would only get one star. For the money, this place doesn't even have valet! We had to lug our stuff like 3 blocks (heavy!), and their own parking lot across the street is always full. The decor looks like it hasn't changed since they opened in the 20's. Our room (standard) was as big as a closet. The bathroom was small and awkward (and not totally clean when we got there). When I went to wash my face in the sink, I always hit my head on the glass shelf above it. The furniture is pathetic and old. The TV is tiny and too high up where you can hardly see it. Our bed looked like a full, not a queen, was lumpy, rickety, and slanted downwards. The pillows were down (which I hate) and I couldn't sleep at all in that horrible bed. For what we paid, we could've gotten a 4-5 star hotel in Vegas that would've treated us like royalty. If it wasn't for the restaurant downstairs, it is a HORRIBLE place. The rooftop bar is okay but too pricey and plastic. I will eat there, but never stay there again!! No way!

i was totally charmed--my romantic getaway was nearly perfect, and i'm glad i picked this hotel. i took a glance at the other ocean front hotels and motels in the area, and this is the most elegant (old world spanish/mediterranean style) for the money, hands down.
we stayed in room 322, and i think the room selection is really important. after i was really specific about what i wanted and the fact that this was a romantic treat on the phone while making the reservation, they stuck us in an AWFUL room when we checked in. my heart sank. i thought i reserved a deluxe, ocean view suite, and they gave us a tiny closet that looked out into other people's rooms. luckily, when i went down to clarify my reservation request, they put us in 322--the nicer room--without question. it would have been really terrible if they hadn't been able or willing to make the change.
anyway, the rooms are sparse and clean; ours was roomy and had a king bed, a couch, an antique vanity, and a small fridge. it was light and airy and looked right out to the water--you could lay in bed and watch the horizon. we were totally comfortable and content.
i should mention that the service was a little off--front desk staff was okay, but not exceptionally helpful (like when they overlooked my initial reservation request). phone extensions for room service didn't even pick up, and front desk wasn't too pleased about relaying my order for coffee in the morning. those little details make a difference.
on a side note, i recommend the rooftop bar for drinks and light munchies at sunset. we were there on a monday and it was pretty full. i bet it gets out of control thurs-sunday, which brings me to another point--this place could get really loud when it's full. i'd pick the room and days carefully if you can.
It's an older hotel but there's definitely charm to that and how can you beat the location? Don't come here for the food, head upstairs to what used to be a great secret -- the rooftop. Except now that it's become the place to be seen, it's now known as "The Rooftop" ha. Great panaromic view of the ocean, perfect for drinks at sunset. Get the mojitos.
