My sweet tooth tends to lean towards the fruity sweet type of pastries and desserts.

I have tried all the macarons La Boulange has to offer on multiple occasions and at multiple locations.

Here are a few of my favorites:
    - Raspberry
    - Vanilla
    - Caramel
    - Passionfruit
    - Cherry (I normally do not eat cherry flavored sweets as they sometimes come off a bit like cold medicine, but these macarons are actually delicious!)
    - Pistachio

    Cheers!

This place is ok. Had a taste of the macarons and they were kind of weird actually. They tasted funny and the filling in the middle had a weird texture.
I also tried the almond croissant and frankly, it tasted old, like it had been sitting there for a long while.
I haven't tried any of the savory stuff, but I am willing to go back and give them another try.

I needed something hearty so I ordered the La Bou Burger. Cooked perfectly medium as requested, it was simply delicious and gourmet with it's quality meat and bun. Blue cheese and caramelized onions are served on the side which I appreciate because I can't do too much blue cheese but I sure did slather all of those onions on my burger. Next time, I'll spend the extra buck to add cheddar, maybe even bacon. The pomme frites were made from fresh cut potatoes and tasted just like thicker in-n-out fries. Yumm.

4 solid stars for great food and an open air atmosphere, at least by the wide open front windows and with the seats outdoor. I also saw seating upstairs.

But, service could have been better. I came during the last hour before La Boulange was to closing for the day and there were two workers behind the counter plus the cook. One lady was ahead of my bf and I already placing her order, and there was one lady was behind us with no one eating at the cafe. The lady ahead of us took forever to order. The lady behind us couldn't even wait anymore and just left. I almost felt like doing the same because it shouldn't have taken that long to get through such a small line of only 4 people. One worker was helping the lady that was taking forever  (she only ordered 3 macarons plus lemonade!). The other worker was on the phone on what I think was a business call but instead of taking our order after hanging up the phone to move things along, he decided to clean off some of the tables because yanno, that was more important than servicing actual customers.

Thankfully, there are plenty of other La Boulanges to visit.

I guess La Boulange isn't just good for lunch or weekend brunch. We came here to grab a quick bite for dinner right before they closed their doors for the evening.

We shared the tuna sandwich and the truffle mac and cheese - both largely portioned and an Izzy drink. Total came out to only about $23 - one of the cheapest dinner you can have in the city. Tuna sando was nothing special (tuna was prob from a can and for me fish, tomatoes and cheese do not go) and can't say the m&c was the best I've ever had but it was enough to keep my stomach from growling. I was tempted by their bread pudding and the macarons (not "macaroons". Macaroons have coconut is a COMPLETELY different cookie) but decided against it.

Sure they offer croissants, French toast, croque monsieur/madam etc but that's as French or Parisian it's gonna get at La Boulange.

Service from the counter was pleasant and efficient. As it always is when we come by for a quick lunch on the weekends. They also make a decent cappuccino. Would take a cup of La Boulange's over Sbux' any day.

La Boulange has okay pastries and some mediocre pre made items... but the lobster sandwich is amazing.  The lobster portion is generous, minimal mayo and the croissant roll is  a perfect match. Delicious!

They have some really good sandwiches. I had the Ham and cheese one, while my sister had a feta cheese open sandwich. Both were good, though I found them a bit pricey. Their Almond Croissant as advised in few earlier reviews were really good.

I came here on a beautiful sunny day and was lucky enough to be able to sit outside and enjoy the weather.

I ordered a cup of pea soup and pomme frittes. The french fries came with aioli , which always makes me happy, and were amazingly delicious. I set out to find a place with excellent fries today and found it. The soup was ok but nothing special.

My dining companion ordered a latte which was served in a bowl about four times the size of my soup. That's not to say my soup wasn't large enough, just that the latte was comically oversized.

They forgot to bring out of of the items we ordered but were very fast when we asked for it.

All in all an excellent restaurant and I look forward to returning!

    Sadly, not for me.

I ordered the omelet with goat cheese and spinach and it was poorly made. Falling apart and too much goat cheese- it was overpowering. The macaroons were just okay. I tried to order one of their sandwhichses, the Croque Monsieur, but the guy at the register couldn't tell me anything about it. I asked about what kind of bread they use and he said, "I'm not sure." I also asked what "bechamel" was and again he shrugged his shoulders. Hmmm... i'll just take a plain omelet then sir. =/

+1 for the samples of the almond crossiant they had.

I had their "healthful oats" - oats cooked in low fat milk and topped with flaxseed and a few cuts of strawberry and banana. I opted to sweeten the oatmeal with maple syrup, which they serve on the side so you can pour to taste. It's a simple, but delicious breakfast that's generously portioned and will keep you full for hours.

I also couldn't resist a hazelnut & chocolate croissant for the next morning. I'll tell you it tastes much better when consumed the same day of purchase, but it was still good.

I order croque madams more often than croque-monsieurs. And it's a good thing that I do because I have trouble pronouncing the word "monsieur". And this really pisses me off because it isn't like "Chrysanthemum". Hell, I can't even spell that stupid ass word. But I digress. This review is about one of the best damn croque madams I have ever tasted.

La Boulange is a recent find and if it weren't for a car pulling out of a parking space, we may have never discovered it.

The minute we stepped inside I could already tell I was going to love this place. House made potato chips, macarons, quiches, giant sized cups of espresso drinks and of course croque madams. I have been searching for a place like this ever since I discovered Cafe Presse in Seattle. And La Boulange rivals it. Cafe Presse does have a few things that still make it better i.e. open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (till 2am) and their French fries kick ass. Not that La Boulange makes a bad fry, they are just not nearly as good as Cafe Presse. But don't feel bad LB, those fries they are making up in the Pacific Northwest are some of the best around.

The croque madam was outstanding and completely satisfying. The egg on top was perfectly cooked and the did not skimp out on the cheese. The sandwich also comes with a side salad. But I made sure that we had a side of fries. I also love the condiment bar that included dijon mustard and those tiny pickle things that I can never remember the name of.  I was happy that I only had a light dinner of just soup and slices of cucumber and was in bed by 8:00. It was a long weekend and I needed my beauty sleep.

What I loved about La Boulange is that was just so unique and French and felt very homey. I was surprised to learn that they are actually a chain and there are several in and around San Francisco. Please put one down there!

Their pastries are orgasmic, decor is super cute, service is alright, oatmeal is microwaved - avoid at all costs!

I was craving for oatmeal one cold morning and decided to try the one they serve here. I've seen many people ordering it and they way they were eating it off a huge bowl seems to be tempting. So I ordered the oatmeal, paid, and made my way up the staircase to the loft seating upstairs. I then saw a glimpse of my oatmeal being measured into a bowl, milk poured, and bowl into the microwave. I stood appalled, and decided to come back down to the cashier to change my order to their delicious whole wheat croissant with fresh fruits.

She said "well, yes, we microwave our oatmeal here, that's too bad, they actually taste good"

Nothing taste good microwaved, dear. I was so disappointed, because from what I was highly expecting their oatmeal to be slow-cooked in a big pot.

Who would of thought a person could be so stingy and rude even on Mothers Day! And a manager at that! Thought this would be a good spot to take my sister for her first mothers day with her 11 month old baby. Our food came out on time, but though my sister and her husband ordered right after us....their food never came for 20 minutes after ours. Numerous (about 12) other tables who arrived after us were served. When we asked about it they simply said "we're busy"..with no apologies. Whatever...but what really did it was the fact that when we asked for a side of something that was supposed to be on one of the sandwiches (and wasn't) she said she would charge us for it. Thanks "manager" Hilary- maybe you should improve your attitude and it would improve your life.

I had brunch here with my cousin, his gf and my bf. The portions are pretty small so be aware and come with a light appetite. The French Toast looks very unique and was probably very tasty as my cousin and his gf wolfed it down pretty quickly. My Egg Salad Sandwich was pretty tasty, but very small and the bread was over-toasted so the bread was a little hard. I usually like egg salad sandwiches on soft breads. The bf's omelette was pretty basic. The standout dish was the macarons. They come in adorable little boxes. We loved the Coconut, Caramel, Passionfruit Mango and Hazelnut Chocolate. Thankfully, I had some control and only ordered half a dozen.

My Midwest friends will occasionally comment that since I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, that I must come to "Frisco" every chance I get. The truth is that I pretty much stick to the areas of the East Bay that I know and enjoy, and visit the City based on circumstance or as an occasional treat. Plus the Theater and Bakery choices (among other things) are better in Berkeley. And don't call it Frisco!

My exploratory trips to San Francisco sometimes lead me to the Upper Fillmore, although I always start the Stationary Store (Maido) in Japantown. La Boulange is a favourite spot for a sweet roll and strong black coffee. There's also inside seating (including a yet unexplored loft), but I patiently wait in line and take my combination to go. It also gives me a chance to look at the tempting display case and change my mind a couple times and keep myself from ordering double (unless I can convince myself that I need one for breakfast the next morning). Next time, I might like to stick around for a proper sit-down breakfast, but it's still a long way from the East Bay.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to review this quaint breakfast/brunch spot.

As soon as I was done with my pilates work out at Mercury Fitness, I would always stop here a cup of their delicious tomato soup and a mini smoked salmon on Ciabatta roll.

The food is always fresh and pastry selection is hard to resist. I personally can never resist their macaroons, particularly the pistachio and coffee flavored one.

They carry a variety of freshly squeezed juices, iced tea and great coffee. If you're watching your diet, be sure to try their granola with greek yogurt and fruit bowl. It's absolutely delicious and filling.

My only advice is that you may want to come here early in the morning because parking is always hard to find and or avoid weekends all together. Fortunately, I used to my dog to the former "Bella and Daisy's" for grooming every Saturday morning (before the groomer left and then they changed their name) so meanwhile, we got to have breakfast at La Boulange while there was still seating. Some of the items are a bit pricier than you would expect but because it's so good, I can't resist the monthly splurge.

It's get packed quickly, so come early and try a weekday instead!! :)

I usually try to stay away from big box, chains, but I hadn't been to this place before.  So I dropped in for coffee and baked goods.  They have some delish macrons, and great packaging.  Let's be serious, it's what's inside that counts, but what's outside that sells.  Plus their chai lattes are the size of your head.  They have a bunch of locations around the area, definitely would stop here before s-bucks.

I've been to the La Boulange on Market, but this one on Fillmore makes me even happier.  Why?  It's so much bigger!

Parking is horrible.  It's on the corner of Fillmore and Hayes, so I usually go here when passing through and a parking spot magically becomes available within a couple blocks of the place.  Otherwise, it's a fun adventure navigating the one ways while circling the place.

I love the food La Boulange has.  Most of it is healthy, and they cater to a wide variety of pallets.  If you haven't tried the crossiant bread pudding, stop reading this and run to your nearest La Boulange NOW.  Just don't expect to do your ass any favors, because that's exactly where that bread pudding is going to go.

I always love their soups, and try to get something new when I drop by.  The Fillmore location is seating friendly, unlike the Market Street location, with many tables inside, and even a nice little lounge area near the door with some comfy couches.

They do a mean espresso, too.  Just don't come here and expect to be frugal money-wise.  You'll pay for the fresh, quality food at this incredible place, and it'll be worth the splurge.  Even with the bad parking, this place is good enough that it keeps a solid 5 star rating from me.

The Skinny: the original spin-off cafe from La Boulangerie serves up a dose of Paris in Pac Heights (4) Service: yes, the service is slow and it is crowded as heck (3) Value: a large breakfast pastry and a massive bowl of chai latte or cafe latte will set you back less than $10 (4).

Although this place gets crowded, it's my favourite place to hit for a kick-ass almond croissant and a bowl of creamy chai latte, big enough to wash your face in.

Their pastries are a slice of Paris minus the expense, snooty French counter service, and highly suspect bathroom facilities (yeah - you can't beat the overall general cleanliness of the facilities in North America!).  Their pastry dough is flaky yet substantial enough to hold up to the copious amounts of filling. You can tell because the filling croisssants here do not have a crater in the middle (ie, sinking in the middle where the filling is)  like many other places.

Baguettes are also wonderful - nice and crispy on the outside while maintaining a moist light bread on the inside. Coupled with their house made preserves, it is a wonderful thing in the morning.

This place is too legit to quit. I recently brought my pals from Canada to this perennial haunt and they literally could not stop talking about this place. They were dreaming about croissants and lattes the whole trip and kept asking when the next time we would hit this place. We literally hit a La Boulange/La Boulangerie (their bakery down the street) at least 3 times in a space of 4 days!

Walked in on Saturday for brunch and we were fortunate to get a table since a lady saw us hoping for a table to open up, and was so kind to give up her seat.  I like this location, with up, down, and outside dining options.  It's full of great morning sunlight, but seating is a coin toss.

We ordered the Croque Madame and the Breakfast Pizza w/ bacon.  I was thoroughly entertained with my high in cholesterol Croque Madame - quite delicious.  But was sad since the pizza looked barely there and unappetizing.  Wish this place had a medium coffee option...just sayin'.

    Love the Pine St. bakery!

Was considering giving this location 3 stars but it's a good staple for Fillmore and they're consistent - you know what you're gonna get.

Another outpost of the French food tornado Pascal Rigo or an imitator that serves a darn good burger that I've overlooked long enough.  I was taking care of business on upper Fillmore, noticed my hunger, craved a burger and spotted Harry's on Fillmore and parked right in front of La Boulange and saw they're menu included a burger.  I'm a real fan of all that this remarkable chain has achieved so was thrilled with this unplanned opportunity to try a new to me burger.  I entered the narrow, attractive bistro/cafe storefront which is painted with a lot of sweet blues and pastels and has the feel of a place you want to love, and almost always do love.

So I enter, check out the menu and see the burger, walk to the counter where I'm greeted by a good looking, young latin guy with a great smile and eager manner and I order their cheeseburger which is described beautifully on the menu and take out flyers.  I get my drink and a paper and find a table only to have the counter man call me back to tell me that they're out of hamburger buns, oops, sorry.  I will just get the charges reversed and trot over to Harry's, but on the counter is a display tray with three great looking slider's and I ask if the slider's are available and yes they are so back to table with a new SF Weekly and my diet Coke.

Pretty soon out comes a 'branded' wood block with my three handsome slider's perched magnificently on top of just waiting for my hungry jaws to start devouring.  La Boulange is part of a bakery group and I know just what a good bakery they are so the bun was almost perfect, a great start.  The meat is also great, the cheeses too, the perfectly fitted slice of tomato and the trimmed leaf of butter lettuce and wow, burger heaven.  The fries were also delicious and presented in a paper filled cone and the three slider's seem to have the same calming and filling effect as a full size burger so I emerge into the October sunlight a happy camper once again and thank the powers that be for great burgers.

Cute, quaint place to eat brunch, lunch, or a snack, and to people-watch if you're sitting outside - but beware of those that will stare at your food as they pass by. heh.

In the past my go-to was the opened-face creamy mushroom and chicken sandwich with a side order of mixed greens; it hit the spot every time. I've been recently trying other items on the menu, and I realized a lot of things have brie cheese, which I don't care for, such as the portabello sandwich.

The croissants are delicious - big, fluffy, and buttery. Try the one with hazelnut chocolate - super yummy! If you're into nutella this location has an open jar by the butter, utensils, napkins, water, etc. Liberally apply nutella on your hazelnut chocolate croissants - it's like a little heaven on earth.

Staff is usually pretty nice for the most part - it's the people who eat here that are kind of standoffish and will cut in front of you in line. It is Pacific Heights after all. I think my favorite people who work here are those that serve the food - they seem so nice and happy - I often feel bad for them serving my food. I am totally competent of getting my own food - you just sit down and chill! I don't know, it just makes me uneasy like I'm too good for them when I'm not? I always return my plates back to the servers even though there is no place to put them down - they're usually pretty grateful when you return your plates.

One nice perk of having PT over at the CPMC campus on Clay & Webster is the close proximity to all the stores and shops on Fillmore St.

This a.m. I made my way over to the bakery.  Great looking pastries in the cases, and breakfast items listed on the black chalkboards.

What does one order at a French bakery?  A chocolate croissant!  What else?

This must be what a croissant is like.  It was buttery with good proportion of chocolate inside.  Flaky yet, not airy pockets.

My only con - a tiny gnat inside the pastry case.  Sweets must attract bugs, gnats, etc.  It didn't stop me from ordering though.

Will need to go back and try a savory item.

This place is really close to my house so it has become a regular brunch spot for my friends and I.

I really like the Croque Monsieur, which is a piece of toast that has ham, bechamel sauce and cheese on top. It's a super rich dish but it is so worth it.

I have also had their wild mushroom truffle mac n cheese, it is my favorite thing there. Again, it is a super rich dish, but if you love the flavor of truffle I highly recommend that you try this dish.

came here after the la boulange bakery on pine so my friends and i could get a light lunch, but they were pretty much sold out of everything. understandable, i guess, since we got there at about 3.30pm. the girl behind the counter was.. meh. she wasn't particularly helpful, but i expected that as well because some reviews said the service was hit or miss. sucks that it was a miss.

my friend wanted some madeleines and french toast, both of which they didn't have. i wanted a quiche lorraine.. which they also didn't have, but there were so many of them at their bakery! i'm kind of curious as to how their system works. also, the macaron selection here was pitiful with only one flavour. we ended up getting the smoked salmon and creme fraiche on a french roll, coffees and a ham and potato open faced sandwich. the open faced sandwich was decent. the french rolls however, were close to inedible. i've never had to struggle so much biting through a french roll!

the girl assured me their coffee was a special french roast made specially for them and that it was great. after my first sip, i wondered if that girl had functioning taste buds.

Now that finals are over and I'm happy to be alive, Ginger Broty and I are hanging out again. This time it was sunday brunch, because we aren't up until 11am. So at noon I rolled over to his neck of the woods - Fillmore st, and picked a lunch/brunch spot. I had been to the Hayes Valley location back when I was pescitarian and loved it, so I had high hopes they offered (good) vegan food.

Ginger Broty wanted oatmeal, and I did too- but the menu said made with "lowfat milk." Damn cows. So I asked the cashier what was up, and he said their oatmeal can be ordered with soy milk, to make it vegan. So we decided to split that.

For good measure, I ordered the hummus sandwich and fries, and Ginger Broty ordered the tomato soup and grilled veggies and a goat cheese pizza thing.

Their oatmeal was heaven. OMG. Thats going on my "regular eats" list. And their fries were yummy too. But the rest was kind of meh. I prefer the Hayes Valley location to this one, but wouldn't mind dining at either.

But as an adult now, I put that aside and am thankful my mister yanked me in.

Almond Croissant : Stuffed with copious amounts of amazing almond filling and the pastry itself is rolled in impossible amounts of slivered almonds that make the texture absolutely amazing. It was quite large as well.

Lemonade : Reminded me of the lemonade stand that got shut down by the cops when I was 5 and the lemonade he had in Jersey. It wasn't puckery like Blue bottle's but it was some good lemonade.

Im glad we went in and would drop by again with a friend another time too. Grudge is now gone. ^^

Came here in the mid afternoon for a late lunch with my mom. Not too busy here. From the outside I spied outdoor seating and a small indoor seating area.

We go in and grab seats while I order

HAM brie, asparagus, béchamel w/ greens $9.58 - to share with my mother. My mom didn't like how the edges of the bread and some of the ham were burnt. I didn't like it either! Overall it was very tasty. Everything went well together.

Upon ordering I found out there is upstairs seating! Yay! +Star

Communion water, utensils, and napkins. I went over to grab two forks and a knife. Only spoons. =/ When we received our food the waiter brought us a fork and knife wrapped in a napkin. I asked for another knife and he kindly brought up another fork and knife.

The feel of this place is very calm and comfortable. They don't have as much pastries displayed though as the other la boulanges I have been to.

sOOOOOO GOOD! I really enjoyed this patisserie :) My boyfriend and I visited the shop 3 times while vacationing in San Fran. Each day we enjoyed breakfast with  different entries and pastries. French toast, check. Apricot almond bread--- oh so good. Quiche... yum! coffee- good. It tastes like espresso!!! Prompt service and pleasant ambiance. Plus.... good price! Never over $20. I will visit again :)

This place is narrow yet cozy with an upstairs seating area and closely arranged tables. La Boulange has enough variety of brunch foods that i like to consider it an easy choice for a weekend meal.  There are many locations around and you can always count on a cup (or bowl) of coffee and decent food.

Their scramble is light and fluffy, just as eggs should be. Choosing just three to mix in is difficult but I can't resist a bacon, mushrooms, spinach combo. They were so quick to make it and it came out to my table before i could sip my coffee properly.

It's a cute little place to have brunch at.  They have a pretty long menu but my friend and I chose their combo selection - an open face sandwich of your choosing and a soup of the day.  He got the Mushroom Chicken and I got the Salmon Cucumber.  We both got French Onion soup.

The Mushroom Chicken is really runny and smothered with sauce but really savory.  The Salmon Cucumber on the other hand was very refreshing.  The French Onion soup... not my favorite.  Instead of putting the cheese in the soup, it's melted on a separate piece of bread.  Is that the way it's supposed to be done?  Regardless, I like my cheese in my soup.

Overall, the food is just okay.  I haven't tried the pastries but I heard they're good.  Maybe that'll boost my 3.5 star rating to a 4.

I'm a fan of La Boulange's seasonal fruit tarts. They are soooo good. Last time I went during October, I was a little disappointed because they had the fig tart...and honestly, figs aren't the most popular things to go on tarts.

But obviously I was wrong, because the tart was delicious! My friends and I split it, and after I had my share I wanted one more bite...:)

Their macarons are pretty good too. La Boulange's macarons have the same consistency (although it's not the type of consistency that I prefer); they're chewy with a thick cream/ganache center. Some of them are a bit too soft...But I really like the flavors of their pistachio and passion fruit-mango macarons.

Plus, they package the macarons in the cutest case ever :) I think La Boulange definitely wins on presentation. They put the macarons in a little brown box (but there's a clear film on the top, so you can actually see the macarons while the box is closed; see the yelp pics!), tied with a cute little ribbon. :)

I've only tried their pastries and macarons, but I wanna actually try the food (french onion soup especially).

After reading some of the reviews on Yelp, I knew that I had to try out this place.  When you walk in, you're hit with the smell of something wonderful~

I couldn't stay to eat there, but I took home an almond croissant and a chocolate hazlenut croissant...  both were ABSOLUTELY delicious!!!  If I had another day in San Francisco, I DEFINITELY would have planned to spend an hour or two here...

Strong coffee, lots of choices for breakfast, cute (though chipped) serving wear.  Nice loft area to eat at and watch the action below ;)

A friend of mine introduced me to La Boulange years ago.  He had raved at how their sandwiches were the best in the city.   The time I went with him at the Hayes Valley location I had the croque Monsieur.    It was greasy and yummy.   I knew I had to return to the city for a second try.

I didn't go back to La Boulange until years later when I moved up to the City.   I have had their coffee, pastries and granola with yogurt.  I never feel unsatisfied with their food.

I like their condiments section?  They have everything from honey to jam to olives.  Any way you want to dress your coffee or food.   It's a treat coming here.

They have my favorite coffee and breakfast sandwich (egg, salmon, no cheese on whole grain with a side of dijon mustard). I also love the sides of nutella and jam.

This location is also more charming than some of their other locations.
