Sometimes, you can move all your stuff based on the power of factors like "pluck" and "young love" and "perseverance."
Other times, you have to move all your stuff but you have limiting factors this time around, like a "sprained back", and you can "barely walk or stand", and some of your soon-to-be-ex-housemates and you are "in a hopelessly awkward, difficult-to-comprehend deadlock", which is why you're moving mid-month (and mid-week) to begin with. No amount of pluck or young love will help you in this bind, unless "young love" is slang for Vicodin.
But you know that slang would never catch on anyway, so that's where movers come in. I'd never hired movers before this and wasn't keen on it, but I really had no choice with the whole sprained back/housemates double whammy.
These guys were an awesome find. $65/hour, minimum 2 hours (good luck trying to find anyone else in the area who will quote you for less than twice as much). The two dudes who helped me and my fellow roommate refugee get our stuff moved were friendly, right on time, and on top of their game. They moved our stuff fast (even with flights of stairs involved) and were careful with our furniture, walls and floors, all while cracking jokes with us. That's talent.
I'd hire these guys again even without back/housemate issues--they made moving easy. Now I have the bandwidth to focus on stuff like un-spraining my back and tracking down where the rest of that pluck/perseverance went--I might need those again someday.
Larry and his crew helped make our move on the weekend of 11/7 incredibly smooth and fast. My fiance and I moved from our one bedroom apartment in Redwood City to a new place in Fremont. Larry and two super-nice guys (Kirby and Vince) came to our Redwood City place 10 minutes before our move was scheduled to start, at 8:50am to scope out the place and figure out the fastest routes to get our boxes and furniture to their truck. They moved quickly, efficiently, and carefully - taking time to wrap up our mattress, dressers, bookshelves, and other furniture and load everything neatly into the truck.
They hustled the whole time, which made the already reasonable rate of $90 per hour for the three movers even more incredible. (Note: you may find cheaper rates of $65 or $70 per hour offered by some moving companies but make sure to find out how many movers this includes - two movers at that price may well end up being more expensive and certainly more time-consuming than three movers at $90. Larry gave me the choice of hiring two movers at $70 or three at $90 and it was well worth the extra $20 per hour to have a third person).
Everything made it safely to our new apartment and was unloaded quickly and with care. They finished bringing everything into the new apartment in Fremont at 12:05, which meant the whole move took three hours and fifteen minutes, but Larry only charged me for 3 hours!! He also did not charge for the time that it took them to drive to our apartment in RWC and back home from Fremont, which I think is very generous because at least some movers do charge for that time.
All in all, paying for movers was one of the wisest decisions we've made, as we all know how moving on your own can bring out the worst in people. L and R Transport was affordable, trustworthy, and effective--all that really matters when it comes to a move. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who is moving in the Bay Area.
Larry moved my dad's piano for me (has much sentimental value) as well as a king-sized mattress. He and his team were prompt and took good care of the piano. They carried it up to our apartment on the third floor! They also carried away our old mattress at no extra charge.
I definitely will use Larry's services again.
These guys are my new official movers. Found them on Yelp, and man was I not disappointed. Absolutely great, professional, careful, honest. Really, AMAZING. They moved me from San Mateo to Burlingame, and they did a kick ass job. Packed everything very carefully, they came prepared with all the supplies (did not charge me for mattress covers, warddrope boxes, stuff like that). I will use them again. The price was unbeatable, and the quality is rock star. Didn't dick around wasting time, actually really hustled. It went a little over 2 hours, and they still only charged me 2 hours. Really, these guys are amazing.
Larry and his small crew did a tremendous job moving a seemlingly unmovable upright piano down an "L" concrete stairway from my second story condo. It was excruciatingly difficult, they were so careful and even threw in a couple other large items into their truck for a small additional fee (mattresses, which they even covered for me in plastic). Their prices are AMAZING, they were to the MINUTE on time, and he responds very quickly to emails. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone, and already have.
The most professional move I've ever experienced. Larry was right on time, was even more conscientious with my furniture than I was, and kept up a good pace throughout the day. Moving can be nerve wracking, but I knew I was in good hands: Larry was able to assess the situation when he arrived, figure out the best way of packing and caring for my belongings, and fit them into his truck efficiently and with good humor and grace. I will definitely hire Larry the next time I need to move.
