I love L&M and I think the guys who work there should start a consulting firm teaching other places how to do customer service.  The food is great deli food (breakfast sandwiches are my favorite - and you can get turkey bacon and multi grain bread) and their shopping selection is broader then most deli's.

But really I go to L&M because it is old school great.  They know the people in the neighborhood they remember how you like your coffee and once your inner circle you may even get a wave from the guy behind the counter when you walk by.

L&M changes as Chelsea changes they know their customers so well that you see the selection change depending on who is moving in or out.  Really, this is a local place on the pulse of Chelsea's deli needs.

I feel blessed to live around the corner from this wonderful deli. They do everything right:

they offer good deli food
they know ALL of their customers
they don't look at you funny when you come in for your 4th six-pack and 3rd pack of marlboros that day

A great neighborhood spot that has been there for over 20 years. They thrive due to their customer service. If you live in the neighborhood walk the extra block or 2 to get there. It's worth it.

I find it hard to believe that nobody has Yelped this deli nirvana yet, so I will take it upon myself.

It's been around forever (two decades at least), but I first started coming here about midway through high school, so around five years ago. My routine breakfast here: two eggs with cheese on a roll. I know it sounds like nothing special, but I make every one of my friends who crashes at my home get it, and we all rave about it. It's just that good.

Their sandwiches are big, and they have a huge variety- even porschuitto, mozzarella, chicken parmesan...all the good stuff. They're cheaper than the ones at Westside Market, which is just caddy-corner to this place, and just as good (and sometimes better).

Their pancakes, burgers, etc. are also all really good, although their fries are perhaps a little soggy (but not always).

One thing: the rotisserie chicken is also amazing. Herbs, sea salt, some other stuff- just seeing it in the window makes you hungry.

Their selection of deli everything is amazing- sodas, candies, meats, and so on. And their prices are competitive, although I wouldn't venture to say "cheap."

This isn't a produce place. You don't get salads here. You get diner food, deli food- greasy food that'll probably kill you at a young age. Then you buy a mini-keg of Heinekin to wash it down with.

Which brings me to the beer selection, which is middle-range NYC deli fare. But this isn't a bar, or a liquor store (there's a good one next door though), and Westside Market has more space to devote to alcohol, so I don't penalize L&M for this.

The service is lightning-fast, and really friendly. They're all nice, and funny, and just generally interesting people. They make an effort to remember you and what you like, which makes you feel special and move along the process a lot faster.

They deliver to you (even TP and other basic staples that they carry), so if you're a total shut-in or are just lazy, it's a good thing to keep in mind.

My biggest complaint is that they don't take AMEX, which is the only credit card I use, so I have to pay cash. Still, it's worth it.
