I can't say enough about KYW.  I'm a passionate listener.  I love the "shkshkshkshkshk" in the background.  The traffic reports are frequent - I consulted KYW often back in the day when I used a car.  And I am always amused at Fred Sheeeeeeerman's sign-offs.

But what's best is that I've done time in other countries where homesickness hits hard, and all I've got to do is tune KYW in on the internet.  They may be talking about gridlock on the Schuylkill, but I'm instantly transported thousands of miles in a millisecond.

The 'news' in pablum form, just the way we like it up in here.

To the dump dump dump dump!
Businesses that botch!!!
Boston medical erection group:l---
Are you a high net worth ass clown?

The ads I cannot ignore, vulgar and greedy, they get my goat. The station's reporting is too much 'one size fits all' for me. KYW gets all proud about how radio advertising reaches the 'informed' class. It wasn't long ago that they were bombarding listeners with ads for the shysters that fleeced folks out of their paychecks with pre - payday loans at criminal rates.

Looking for dignified, in depth, imaginative or rigorous -- you're on the wrong frequency.

KYW does little to make what's important interesting. Instead they sell simple,  emotional, sensational, they sell REDUNDANT.

It is the news voice of Philly.

Yes, I listen once or twice a day.

I cannot live with KYW.  It is part of my daily routine.  You get all the news you need quickly and efficiently without a million commercials and irrelevant chatter.  KYW1060 is the best -- I'd be lost without them!

I really love that KYW has traffic reports every 10 minutes.  It's a lifesaver, especially given the constant "roving Penndot crews" on I-95, the multitude of car accidents on 95, and the countless other random things that happen on the Philly area highways that seem to cause bumper-to-bumper jams at random times.  The news coverage also isn't bad, although I like NPR for their wider coverage of world events (yay for the BBC!), and the constant "clack clack clack" in the background of KYW drives me nuts after a while.

While everyone else hears the jingle in their head, I hear the typewriter-esc background noise that is always seeping into the foreground of reports.  KYW has saved me from sitting in traffic on the AC expressway countless times on trips back and forth from the shore and for that, I am thankful.

KYW is by far the most comprehensive AM news channel for the Delaware Valley and although I have Sirius, I sometimes find myself still switching over to hear that jingle and background noise.

While WHYY has the entertainment, BBC, and NPR programs that keep me so damn cultured, KYW News Radio 1060 AM (can't even write it without hearing the jingle in my head) gives you all that traffic, weather, sports, and constant run-throughs of Philadelphia news.

I find this station to be the only worthwhile AM radio station in the Delaware Valley, and particularly with more pressing news, they get right to the chase with tons of ABC correspondents. If you're an info junky, this is an oft overlooked resource.

It's true I can't even think KYW without hearing that damnable jingle (KYW news Radio 1060....it's got dorky little notes in my head when I'm writing it, but it just doesn't translate).

I listened to their coverage of the Eagles when I had no TV and I was at work.  It was kinda crappy and I had to supplement it with the NFL.com play by play and the little icons blipping back and forth on the screen.  And honestly,  I don't need that much up to date coverage on traffic since I don't drive.  But if I did, I guess this would be the place to go.  And Jake is right, if I were in some sort of strange parallel universe in which I could only get AM radio, I'd probably be tuned in.

I don't know that it's the ONLY worthwhile station in the region---despite a few detestable hosts, I still listen to a lot of 610 WIP---but KYW, the local CBS radio affiliate, is the quickest way to get the news you want when you're driving. They do the news like, every hour or something. And the important stuff comes around even more frequently, every ten or something. Because of the repetitive format, you can't listen for too long without losing your head. "KYW news time 4:32.... KYW news time 4:33... KYW news time 4:34." It's maddening.

But without question, tune in for information on school closings, traffic, and weather.
