2 reviews for Kula Sandalwoods Inn & Cafe
Simple, satisfying fare. Plus there isn't a whole lot of choice in the town of Kula.
It's literally a mom-and-pop operation, but they're friendly and the view of west Maui is fantastic. The kalua pork sandwich was savory, especially with the nice touch of hoisin sauce. Fried fish sandwich (it was ono when we came) was also very good.
Pretty no nonsense place.
On the drive up to Haleakala, I was a little queasy. The numerous switchbacks up the volcano and the elevation of 10,000 feet probably played a party in my nausea, but being hungry didn't help. This is where Kula Sandalwoods Inn & Cafe comes in. This restaurant is husband and wife run, the husband runs the dining area, while his wife runs the kitchen. We were seated promptly (we were the first customers to come in after sunrise), and we were given the breakfast menu, which consisted of maybe 7 or 8 menu items. I decided on the full stack of pancakes, my husband chose the french toast, while the rest of our group chose other items from the menu (breakfast sandwich, eggs benedict, egg scramble). My full stack of pancakes came with four pancakes, perfect size, and very tasty. My brother-in-law ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was SO good. I highly recommend this sandwich. The biscuit is made from scratch with maui onions baked on top and the sandwich comes with an herb aioli, eggs, cheese and ham. This sandwich was so good that two people in our group, my husband included, decided to go for a second round of breakfast.
