Review from Adriana K.
Brooklyn, NY
Whenever you move to a new city (or, in my case, move back to a city you've lived in before but into a new neighborhood), part of laying down some roots is finding your new "people." And when I say, "people," I mean the people who are going to make you look as fab as possible--a new dry cleaner, a new manicurist, a new gym...and of course, a new hair colorist/stylist. Of course, if you love the person you've been going to in the city you've just left, finding someone new is something done with much trepidation.
Luckily, when I came out to NYC in August for apartment-hunting purposes, I stumbled by chance (and thanks to Yelp reviews by others) on K's Salon, and Joseph, who is my new hair "person."
Back in August, he just gave me a blowout (it was all I needed at the time, as I'd just had my hair colored and cut) because it was a hot, disgusting, humid day and my hair needed a good freshening-up before I went out that evening. But having seen K's Salon (and the ladies who walk out of there looking soooo lovely), and also having really enjoyed the treatment I was given by Joseph and other staff members, I decided I'd go back for color and cuts as well.
Today, I needed my (newly dark) hair color freshened up. Dark dye fades, especially when you put it on hair that's been regularly bleached for the past two years. My last dye job had held out for a surprisingly long time, but today it was really, really time to get it done again. I told Joseph what my California colorist had done and how I wanted it, and he set to work and gave me, of course, a beautiful dye job! Not only is he so good at what he does, he is a joy to talk to. I really enjoy our conversations and think he's a wonderful human being. To top it off, Joseph gave me a stunning blowout, just like last time.
Rebecca, who shampooed my hair, and Kaye, the salon owner, are also lovely (as is the receptionist, but sadly her name escapes me). I'll also mention briefly that services here are very reasonably priced, especially for Upper West Side Manhattan. I'm a fan, and I'll be back.Listed in: How to be a Princess

I visited K's salon based on its high Yelp rating after not having a haircut for over a year. My head was starting to feel like a bird's nest. This was also my first time having a haircut this expensive, I'm much more used to frequenting Chinatown establishments.
Joe, who cut my hair, was so lovely. This is a place, I observe, where you form a relationship wtih your stylist and chat to them about your life and treat them like family. Unfortunately I'm the sit quietly while you cut my hair type of gal... so it was a little awkward, but not anyone's fault.
The cut was great, and the atmosphere as a whole was relaxing and calm. Since I was getting a cut for a special occasion Joe took the time to curl my hair after the blowout, and it looked amazing. I think that's what makes this place special, that extra effort they put in to make you feel gorgeous and confident. -

I fourth Trish. Extremely professional, sweet, an absolute joy. I get compliments all the time about her delicate handiwork. While the 70 bucks you drop here is a lot (I haven't been able to go after a bank-account-busting summer abroad), its absolutely worth every penny. I look forward to going back there soon...
***UPDATE*** Trish has relocated to Jeffrey Stein on 84th/Columbus. -

I tried to get my hair done before vacation, but the person I normally go to was on vacation. I ran out of time and decided to get my hair done shortly after my arrival to New York. I was worried that I was going to have to pay an enormous amount in Manhattan. My poor neglected strands were damaged from too much bleach I had about a year ago by a stylist who lied and said I needed to use bleach to dye my dark brown hair medium brown. My broken uneven ends were turning light brown from the bleach.
I received great friendly service at K's. Joey was great! I love my new color and cut! It's been about a month now and my hair has not faded. The entire staff worked together to make you feel at comfortable. The manucurist even gave me suggestions on shows to see. I'd definitely go back when I return to NYC.Listed in: New York City

I got my highlights done here and just had to make an appointment elsewhere to fix the job. The ends were brassy and my roots had an orange tint to them. My sister said it looked like I did it myself. Ugh. What a disappointment.

I've been going to Trish at K's Salon for years. She's exceptionally good, always friendly, and frequently comes in early or late to accommodate my schedule.

Joseph is the best!!! He's extremely talented and I always leave his chair loving my hair. My boyfriend and I both go to him and we would never go anywhere else. We trust him implicitly!
