This is quickly becoming my spot in Newark. I was dying for a quiet spot to catch the Bears one Sunday and I was enticed by the mouthwatering burger photos on yelp. I was the only female out of a handful of regulars but I felt comfortable seated at the bar. They turned one of their TVs (great size) to the game for me and took care of anything I needed.
No, I didn't have the massive burgers, but the wings are great here. Almost as good as the people. As the joint started to fill up I quickly found new friends who were interested in the strange Chicago fan. They were even rooting for my team with me.
I love this place for the atmosphere and camaraderie as much as the wings.
One tip, the mozzarella sticks are your standard frozen fare, but they satisfy a need. $5 for select apps during NFL games.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Anthony E.SoMa, San Francisco, CA01Apr 2, 2024

If you haven't been to Krugs, make it a point to try them out in 2024. They've been around since 1933 which tells you a whole lot about them.
The menu is limited, but everything they make is amazing. If it's your first time.. the bacon cheeseburger is a must have. Add an onion ring/french fries combo and your drink of choice to wash it down.
Always have a great meal and great time at the last remaining dive bars in the Ironbound section of Newark.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 25, 2023Previous reviewOld man bar in the heart of ironbound. You haven't had a bacon cheeseburger til you've been to Krugs.
Perfectly grilled medium burger, crispy bacon, and super cold beer.
We've been coming here for years, and it's one of the few places we miss when we are away for a few months.Aug 31, 2015Previous reviewJuiciest Burger I've had... No wonder it's been rated best burger in NJ for several years in a row.

Really enjoyed our time here! Casual sports bar with more open area/seating in the back. No frills, laid back. There is a parking lot, but it's behind the building! The parking lot along side the building is for a grocery store nearby.
The drinks were good, the food was awesome for the most part. Fries were whatever but that's just preference. Everything was served hot. The burger was awesome, cooked as requested! There is a note on the menu that the burgers take 30 min from order, which was worth the wait. Taking a star off though because they served us the burger 30 min in, and we didn't get our fries and pastrami sandwich for another 10 minutes after that.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gina B.Hawthorne, NJ82847Mar 30, 2024
After hearing about how awesome these burgers are we had to venture to Newark NJ to try ourselves. The end result? Nothing outstanding. In fact I found the chop meat to be flavorless. The burgers are HUGE. So maybe that is what the hype is about. But I prefer taste over size any day. Even the fries were lame. Sorry.

1973 fast forward to 2024. Didn't skip a beat or dropped the ball. Still the same as it was yesterday the day before the decade before and on an on. This truly is a much visit and enjoy the flair that you get with a burger or any other items on their menu. Service is like a well oiled machine. Nothing left undone. The atmosphere is of a time gone by. But nevertheless enjoyable. You must visit. Many of the places such as this have all but disappeared.

Authentic hole in the wall bar. The burgers are great. They also put out pickles and peppers for free. So tasty. I make it a point to try and stop by when I'm in town. The place is hopping at lunch don't be surprised if see pd, fd, etc eating there. The service is good as well

Reasonably priced and deliciously massive burgers. What more could anyone want? The burger fell apart as I was eating it, but in a good way. The fries were also pretty good. It's about a mile from Newark Penn Station, and a pretty nice walk too. It was a good spot to catch up with a friend over some beers and giant burgers.

Excellent food. This is a pretty cool dive bar with some of the biggest burgers you'll find in NJ. All hand crafted marvels of meat (pause). Everything is made to order and you can taste the passion in each bite. Good service, very attentive staff, and they make you feel like a regular. Definitely glad I tried this spot out today and can't wait to return.
