Review from Robert S.
Van Nuys, CA
I went hear for two reasons: 1) Because of all the great reviews on Yelp, 2) Because they were open late.
I am not much on Thai, but because of all the positive reviews, I went for it. The portion size is gracious on the soups...enough to feed two people as a meal or to serve 3-4 as an appetizer and for about $6 - $7. The entrees are a good size portion, but I wouldn't say Claim Jumper big. I order #107 (Cashew Nut Chicken) and it was good, but I wouldn't say awesome or really special. I also order the #22 (Wonton Soup) and it was really "great!"
I am looking forward to trying a lot of their other dishes. The service is friendly and sincere! The decor is disgusting...I would say the whole restaurant needs a whole makeover, except for their food. -

Los Angeles, CA
This is my go-to spot when I'm just coming from the bar or a club or a crazy night out with my friends and we're hungry. The food is cheap and good. My cousin always gets duck over rice or what he calls "LA river duck" because it's so cheap, he thinks the duck comes from the LA River. Not that it's a bad thing. It's actually really good. For a year, I would order that every time I would go there.
Our regular ordered items besides LA River duck are pad se ew, eggplant, cha po with a fried egg on top, fried tofu, green curry, and if they have it, mango with sticky rice. All of which are very good, otherwise we wouldn't constantly order these dishes. The thai iced tea is good, but a little too sweet for my taste.
You really can't go wrong though. I mean what more can you ask for? Something that hits the spot at 2:30am so your ass doesn't drive home drunk... -

I have tasted way better thai food than this place before... I came here at 12 AM with my co-worker (friend) and two of the sushi chefs I work with. One of the chef's is thai and I guess he comes here often.
Well, I was hoping I would try some good tasting pad see ew and some pad thai but... all the dishes everyone ordered was TOO SALTY!!!
I also asked to make the pad see ew... (3 stars) or even a little spicy because I love my food spicy but from what i learned, pad see ew doesn't taste good (really spicy).
The food wasn't spicy at all... it was a disappointment. SO i tried my friend's pad thai... it was alright... but again salty... I don't think I plan on coming again. -

Came here because Sanam was way too crowded, it was pretty empty for a saturday night, but the food and service were great. I would not go as far as to say its better then Sanam, but they do have there perks.

I have been coming here to Krua Thai for at least a couple of times every year and each time I visit, this place does not disappoint. Their pad see ew is amazing and their fried calamari is just to die for.
The best part of Krua Thai (besides their food and staying open until 3:30 AM) is their watermelon boba. I couldn't get enough of that!
So if you are planning to get some delicious Thai food and boba late at night for cheap, definitely come to Krua Thai at North Hollywood! -
Review from Jessica Y.
Glendale, CA
I rarely crave Thai food because I don't venture out of the typical curry, pad thai, pad see ew, etc. Unless I have particular cravings for those dishes, I don't prefer Thai.
Krua Thai's (steamed) Chicken over rice is something I could probably eat almost everyday; it's simply simple. It's nothing over-the-top, but I like dishes with no frills and not overly-sauced. Also, if you're a fan of runny yolk, opt for the fried egg on top. Yolk on top of a bed of jasmine rice and soft, juicy chicken is seriously something made from dreams - who is this genius inventor?
The dish also comes with sweet peanut dipping sauce and a small bowl of plain chicken broth with green onions. I don't care much for the sauce, but soup is a great addition to the dish.
They have a spicier and sweeter version of pad thai, Pad Thai Krua Thai, and I liked the spiciness and kick to the typical staple.
Their portions are fairly large, which boggles my mind when the check comes out.
2 dishes + appetizer = comes out to be a little over $20, but that's enough to pack to-go and eat the rest for dinner.
I remember reading Krua Thai on Jonathon Gold's list, and he described it as LA's Thai delicatessen, like a Canter's. That's pretty much how comforting and convenient Krua Thai feels.
I'm always having a debate in my mind to whether come to here or hop on over to the plaza next door for the popular Sanam Luang. I always end up here.Listed in: Cheap Place$, Tha Valley!, Bawk like a chicken

Not bad but DEFINITELY over-hyped.
After a night out in the valley, we wanted to end with a meal (instead of starting out with one) which became a feat of strength for our stomachs but nevertheless an objective for our minds. The plan was to come to Krua Thai, and come we did. Did KT bring it back to us? Well, sorta.
I had read Jonathan Gold's review on the Pad Thai and had drooled in between sips of cocktails all night while reading it over and over, psyching myself up for the city's best pad thai - and was it? Well, I guess. It was fine. Nothing spectacular, aside from the great big shrimps that were in it, but there were only two of them total. So that was lame.
We also got the Papaya Salad which was just fair. Though spicy.
The Tom Kuh Kai - again, fair.
And the pork jerky - which was AWESOME! But "pork" and "Jerky" are independently awesome so who would expect any less from their union?
The food came out fast and there was PLENTY of it. We had leftovers for the next day, and even that following meal felt like a big one.
Overall it's pretty solid, but more of a value than anything (those 4 dishes were only $30!).
But this doesn't even hold a candle to Jitlada. -

This place is legit.
Decided to take my brother's recommendation after he said "my homies and i come to this bomby thai place all the time after a late night of dranks." No idea how I was persuaded after that sentence to try, but I did and I am thanking Buddha.
It was not crowded, nice! It was clean, great! It is in a shithole part of Noho, whatevs!
Ordered the fried wonton's for appetizer, huge portion and huge tons! impressed at the start.
Proceeded to order our entree. I'm so happy the waitress was cool because when she asked how spicy I wanted the Krua Pad Thai - I responded with the very technical term of "spicy, but not too crazy gurrrl." she then confirmed her understanding of my esoteric familiarity of fine cuisine terms with "ok - over medium spice, yea?" Yea guuurrrl!
holy Buddha, the best pad thai i've ever had! spicy, tofu and shripy, flavorful, just yumtastic! and i tried my brother's pad see ew - absolutely solid dish. Both our entrees were huge, which means leftovers. I love bonus second night dinners.
All of this, and our bill was $18 bucks. SCORE.
I am so happy I decided to trust drunks. I shall be coming back! -
Review from Aaron M.
Almost all Thai food tastes just about the same with some variations to it. But to me, this place is slightly better and way less crowded than the nearby Sanam's.
Although I've been to both restaurants, I prefer Krua Thai because the service is good, there's always a place to park and it just seems less hyped.
Any of the soups here are pretty good and you can't go wrong with the pad thai krua thai or the pad see ew. The green tea smoothie with boba is good here but you gotta be lucky because many times they don't have it available.
The thing that makes em great is that they're open til about 3 in the morning.Listed in: Thai'm to Eat

I've only had their food three times, but this place is definitely worth writing a review about. I also only tried their Pad Thai and Chicken Fried Rice, but it's worth raving about. Service is friendly, fast, and accommodating. Ate in once, didn't have a complaint. Had take out twice, both times were quick and no errors on the orders.
If Sanamluang from down the street is busy (I love Sanamluang also. Grew up getting my thai food fixings there), head on down here. -

Edible Greatness: South sea fried rice and pad kee mao. -

Many people like to head to Sanam just up the street for their Thai fix but Sanam is crowded most of the time and their food is really "just ok". Krua on the other hand is rarely crowded and their food is MUCH better. I think their prices are a bit cheaper too if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, I like to order the tilapia and crying tiger with a side of white rice. Just typing that made me crave for it now. It's that tasty.
For all you hungry clubbers after a night of imbibing, if you'd like great Thai food, good service and fast seating, head to Krua instead of Sanam. -

Pretty good for the price. The house noodle soup was tasty but some of the meat was chewy. My girlfriend ordered the pad thai and I wasn't into it at all. Glad I ordered the soup...

This is my must visit when coming back to Valley. Great food and cheap prices. LUV IT!
Beef salad here is the best I have ever had.
Squid salad here is the flavorful and delicate.
Almost everything I have tried here is good.
Other must haves are Ox tail soup and shrimp cake appetizer.
Can't miss with this place. Service is good and atmosphere is nice.Listed in: Thai Time

Great lively late night place. Staff if polite and always helpful. Food is safe fresh and tasty. Unfortunately they haven't don't spicy enough for me yet but that's ok, they prolly think I can't hang.
Pros
Late night
Not depressing
Clean
Tasty and fresh
Food is safe
Blended Thai tea
All soups are great
Best fried wontons I've ever had. Anywhere, by far
Cons
Some of the menu items are just disappointing
Meat quality is mediocre and kinda a game of Russian roulette. Some nights is fine others it's like someone ran my chicken over w a car to break the bones up then hacked it up into bite size w fat n some cartilage still in it, not my thing -

Obviously it's open ultra late. Major points for this alone
The food doesn't blow me away, but it's always good. And the menu is gigantic. Hope you aren't tired, you'll need all your faculties to soak it in!!
The staff is both nice and a bit brusque. I like it. They're charming. The ladies deal with us drunken fools like champs.
Don't slum it at Denny's when you can rock out like a star here!! -

Reseda, CA
Great Thai food. I don't know if this place is authentic thai food, but to me it tastes amazing. I had the Pad Thai Krua Thai, I wish there were some more shrimp, but it was a huge plate and I could barely eat half. My friend had the chicken panang, and I tried it. It is very meaty and real spicy. my friend ordered medium heat, but it was still too spicy for me. We got it with a side of brown rice which was surprisingly fresh tasting with a nutty flavor. I would definitely recommend this place.

It's 2 o'clock in the morning and your sick of fast food joints ...Krua Thai is your salvation. This place closes at 3am or 4am!
Great appetizers, delicious dishes and addictive deserts. Did I forget to mention pleasant staff. I have been going to Krua Thai since 2002. I truly love this place, the best comfort food for the best price. The average price for each dish is between $7 to $8
Newbees/ Non-Asian:
Satay Chicken
Pad Thai
Shrimp fried rice
won ton soup (trust me, it taste much better than the Chinese version)
Thai ice tea
Veteran Thai eaters:
leek cake .....aka "Chinese vegetable cake"
Papaya Salad with salted raw blue crab
Pad Thai Krua Thai (not your average Pad Thai)
Penang beef or shrimp
Eggplant with shrimp/chicken/vegatarian style
Salted fish fried rice (not on the menu)
Cha Po
watermelon boba
Cappuchino ice cream is the bomb!
For Kids/ comfort food:
Fish Cakes
Grilled beef balls
Fried Chicken over rice (thinly breaded chicken breast over rice with a bowl of broth)
Parking:
No problem during weekdays but may get crowded on weekends. Plenty of parking on Sherman Way in front of the restaurant.
Why a 4 not a 5 star?
In 2010 when I had a party of 20 in their "Green Room" which is a separate room in the restaurant for large groups the service was poor. The staff is pleasant but understaffed for such a busy place. Their food is so delicious and a bargain even if they treated me badly I would still go back. -

This place is great. It's open late & it's especially well-lit for a place open as late as it is. The food is great, the service is good and the prices are cheap. If you're in the Valley in the am hours I can't recommend anything better

I love this place, cheaper than most and parking is not bad as the sanam laung cafe down the street. My favorite dish so far is the panang curry, pad sew wee and shrimp toast appetizer.

Review from Lauren O.
After a late night movie, me and my husband were hankering some Thai food. Usually we'd head over to Thai Town in L.A. and eat at Torung Thai Restaurant on Hollywood Blvd. I didn't feel like driving that far, so using my handy-dandy Yelp app (shout out!) , we found this hidden gem.
We arrived and the place was lively and nicely decorated at 12:30 am.
The staff was friendly and the food came out fast and fresh.
We ordered the tilapia with chili sauce, the General noodle soup, shrimp cakes, chicken panang, and a couple of Thai ice teas. I thought all the food was fragrant. My favs were the tilapia because it had a sauce that tasted of basil and sweet chilies- soo good- and the shrimp cakes- a very good version of one of me and my husband's favorite Thai dishes. The panang was great but a tad too spicy for me, but my husband loved it.
This place is a gem because it closes late- 3:30 am- and has some delicious food and the food is reasonably priced. Awesome! -

North Hills, Los Angeles, CA
It all started one late night...I was desperately craving some Thai food around 11 p.m. but wondered, "What Thai place aside from Sanamluang would be open late at night?!" I had little hope that there would be another one nearby that would be open so late, but I still went ahead and took my chances and searched for one on Yelp...And that's when I found out about Krua Thai! (Yes, I know it's near Sanamluang but beforehand, I just didn't realize it was just there all along!)
I was able to satisfy my late night craving for Thai food with large portions of crab fried rice, pad Thai, and some chicken entree dish (I forgot the name of it) that were well worth the price! So far, I've been going back to this place every now and then to try their other dishes, and yup, I would definitely recommend this place to a friend. -
Review from Dev C.
North Hollywood, CA
Get off of pad thai and curry bandwagon and dare to order something weird, even though their curries are pretty yummy.
The Four Flavor Fish is an absolute gem, but only for those that's willing to tango with the fish bones. It's a whole fish, deep fried until crispy on the outside, then smothered with sweet-sour-salty-spicy sauce. Eat it over steamed rice. The crispness of the skin will soak up sauce over the course of the dish, augmenting the flavors more and more on each bite.
Also the Pad See Ew is brilliant here. Doesn't matter what you order with it - beef, shrimp, chicken, tofu - they're all good. I highly recommend it if you're a fan of the dish. -
Review from Elisha G.
Yum! For some fortunate reason, we decided to make the trek into North Hollywood in hopes of some real Thai food. We have been a little sick of the sub-par stuff they have near us. They are open really late and from Westwood, it's really only a 20 minute drive to get there if you're looking for late-night fare.
Anyway, the 40-minute round trip drive was totally worth it! We ordered take out, so I was expecting to have to reheat our food whenever we got back. To my pleasant surprise, our food was still steaming hot after our drive back and it didn't need the microwave zap most take-out does!
We tried:
Tilapia with Chili Sauce -This is a whole fried fish that comes with a chili sauce on the side. It is spicy, but not as spicy as I was hoping but I think if I asked, they'd be able to make it more so. Obviously a deep fried fish should be eaten ASAP, so mine was a little overcooked when I got to it half an hour later, but that didn't stop me from eating the entire thing.
Pad Thai Krua Thai -Bf ordered this and this was so good. I couldn't stop eating off his plate! I'm definitely getting their pad thai next time. Honestly... it's like this is what good pad thai is supposed to taste like, and you know it when you finally have it. Man, it is really so good. I'm thinking about it now and salivating!
Despite the distance, we will most definitely be choosing Krua Thai over all the other Thai places around us in West LA. It is totally worth the drive. -

My boyfriend and I were craving Thai food, so we decided to order some take-out from Krua. We got the Mint Leaf Chicken and Pad See Ew. Unlike a lot of Asian places, they actually give you really big portions when you order to go. The prices are also really reasonable for the amount of food you get.
I liked how the Mint Leaf Chicken was actually pretty spicy. It's tossed with a bunch of red peppers, so be cautious when you're eating it! The Pad See Ew was good as usual-- we even had enough food left over for lunch the next day. The service is a little on the slow side, but this is a great place to satisfy your Thai cravings. :) -

I must have ordered al the wrong things or somethin cause I didnt enjoy the dishes. ordered the boat noodles, tasted like a sour pho to me. not even close to the noodles I've had at pa ord and sapp coffee house. it was a pretty good size portion though.
gave the pad thai a try since it was on the cover of the menu as recommended by jonathan gold, it was average. also had the curry crab, flavor of the curry was good, but nothin special. -

Very good and tasty Thai food. Portions were huge. We had Larb, Nam Sod, Pad Thai, Duck Salad, Woon Sen Salad... Everything was pretty good...Service was all over the place but we had a lot of people. Some of the food we asked for like sticky rice didn't come out until it was too late and the salads were almost gone.

Sherman Oaks, CA
One of my all-time favorite restaurants. I rate it with a 5 because it has been consistently good at all hours of the day and night since opening (and is the spawn of the owner of Sanamluang in Hollywood [NOT North Hollywood]). Virtually everything on the menu is great perfectly prepared, and priced nicely.
Some favorites? Mint Leaf Chicken, Pad Thai Krua Thai, Fried Morning Glory, Panang, Combination Fried Rice, Pad Kee Mao, and the great intro to the place--the non-spicy General's Noodles as a soup. Many other favorites, including the whole catfish and the excellent Beef Salad and Grilled Beef Salad (I think the former is even better).
Fast service, generally with a nice smile. Sometimes other patrons are a bit noisy, especially late night. But the place is totally friggin' reliable. -
Review from Chong L.
Hancock Park, CA
It's midnight. U wake up after happy hour drinks and some play....You're hungry and cold. All you have is $20 and light clothes and a car.
Going down the Sherman Way strip, our favorite joint Cha Cha was closed. Luckily Sanamluang is still open. But we look a bit further and there is Krua Thai.
We enter into this cute joint and are greeted kindly by our server. We order the usual... Pad See Ewe and Red Curry (Panang). The Pad See Ewe is excellent, Warm, sweet, and so flavorful!
The Red Curry (Panang)...not so much. It was really spicy, which is fine... But I'm used to my Thai curries being brothy... Almost soupy. This one was almost like Chicken cooked in peanut sauce. Maybe it's supposed to be this way originally, but then I would NEVER order this.
But kudos for being open late, making good food, good service, and extra points for accommodating Vegetarians! -

Valley Glen, CA
My family and our friends absolutely love the food here..
For 2 1/2 years now, we have had our 'Fri-Thai' nights pretty much EVERY Friday, with a couple 'Sat-Thai' nights substituted.
They don't deliver so we phone an order in and go and pick it up. We have eaten there a few times and the restaurant is clean and the girls there are generally friendly.
Now, if you are the type of person who is more into Californian, Ventura Blvd versions of Thai, Indian, Italian etc., then this may not be a place for you...It is very authentic, and we've actually lived in Thailand so know it quite well...
Over the years we've tried most of the menu, and pretty much order from a collection of the same 8 dishes every week so here's a menu for you to order from so you don't miss the good stuff your first time..
Also, I saw a comment about MSG...My wife gets violently ill when she eats MSG so as we eat this every week, and she's never been sick, I dont think its an issue with the dishes we order.
And its super cheap...We've had nights where we'll pretty much order all seafood for 8 or 9 people, and we've reached a $100.
SUGGESTIONS (order any of this stuff and you'll be happy. Spice varies but generally Medium is a safe bet)
Fried Egg Rolls
Fried Shrimp Cakes (3 or 4 per order)
Friend Shrimp Toast
Seafood Salad
Grilled Prawn/Shrimp Salad
Four Flavor Fish
Pad Prik King (Shrimp with green been in a sauce)
Yellow Curry with Chicken or with Shrimp
Green Curry Chicken
Penang Curry with Beef
Curry Crab (Yellow Curry)
Pad Thai Krua Thai
Pad Kee Mao with Shrimp or ground beef (Tomato and fried rice noodle)
Pad See Yew with Beef (Oyster sauce flavored)
Grilled Pork
Garlic Pepper Beef -
