Great with verifying insurance before procedures. Nice dentist on Cambridge close to California Avenue.

Let's just say i was able to fall asleep on two different appointments while I was getting my cavities filled.
I decided to choose Dr. Hamamoto thanks to you yelpers! You guys rock! She's awesome!

I actually went to Dr Hamamoto because of the recommends from yelp.
I'm a wuss at the dentist. My previous dentist had a 'no pain ever' policy because he believed that if you didn't feel any pain at the dentist you'd be more likely to come back in for regular maintenance. He always offered nitrous for cleanings which I paid for out of pocket (insurance doesn't cover the wuss-factor) Anyhow I made it VERY clear to the staff at Hamamoto's office that I was used to this type of treatment; Twice in writing with their confirmation and twice on the phone before I came in. "Yes, sir. We offer nitrous with cleanings, we'll be sure to set you up in the room with the nitrous."

I get there and they get me signed in and they send me to the room for a cleaning (deep cleaning, mind you) and they've got the mask on me but all it's pushing is oxygen. I tell them that it's not right, they fiddle with the tank for a few minutes and then Dr Hamamoto informs me that "the tank is empty and we forgot to order more...but c'mon, it's not like you REALLY need it, right?" :|
So yeah, maybe my experience was a bad one because I'm not a tough guy at the dentist, but I was totally put off by her condescending nature especially when it came to my pain/anxiety management. Unprofessional. Doubly disappointing because of Dr Hamamoto's proximity to my office.
Things work out though, I have a wonderful dentist in San Francisco now (Jennifer Creelman). Sure it's not convenient to my work but at least I get the treatment that I'm promised.

The one sentence summary is: Dr. Hamamoto is awesome! I had a filling done today (it was an old filling that had to be removed and a new one had to be done).
She started by numbing the area and making sure that it was absolutely numb. Following this she proceeded very carefully and let me know what she was going to do before she was going to do something, She checked how I was doing as she did this. I'm a bit anxious around dentists and I'm even more anxious with a dentist that I haven't used before.
After she was done she told me to immediately let her know if I have any issues (via phone, email, IM and so on). As I said - awesome from beginning to end.
What else can you want beyond a meticulous dentist that cares about her patients? Now I understand why the person that referred me to her was gushing praises left and right (the praises were well deserved).
You normally don't think dentists are 'chill.' Well, Kris, or Dr. H, or Dr. Hamamoto - you can call her whatever you want, she says - is very chill. 'You should check this out, might require orthodonture,' she told me. But I don't want that, I had braces as a kid. 'All right, whatever, up to you, just letting you know.' She's cheerful, competent, and incredibly nice. When someone's poking and prodding your pie hole, can you ask for much more?
Dr. Hamamoto is by far the best dentist I've ever had! She's able to work wonders and is very personable. She's the first dentist I have had who I don't cringe to visit. She is able to work miracles with your teeth. I've had her fill a few cavities and was completely surprised how my mouth didn't hurt after the novocaine wore off. She said she could give me a prescription for pain-killers, but I've only needed it once. When I first started visiting her, she cut me a decent deal since I was having a considerable amount of work done.
If you're looking for a caring, considerate, and gentle dentist, she's hard to beat.

I looked on Yelp to get some help finding a dentist because the dentist I was seeing before was very money hungry and dishonest! I found Dr. Hamamoto with nothing but positive remarks so I made an appt. Let's just say I couldn't be happier. Not only is Dr. Hamamoto a nice person, but she was very gentle and caring. I would recommend her to anyone, in fact I have already referred 2 people to her!

I highly recommend Dr. Hamamoto. She really does seem to care about her patients and is very thorough. Before treating me she made absolutely sure that my insurance covered the procedure and she was very careful during her check-up of my teeth.
I think finding an honest dentist is very, very difficult and Dr. Hamamoto seems to be one of the rare honest ones.

My new favorite dentist hands down. Was looking for a new dentist after years of okay and really bad dentists. Had to try her after reading the review from KQN (The Yelp Review machine with 1200+ reviews) and how she's been taking good care of him for 10 years.
Dr. Hamamoto was very warm and friendly, took time out to get to know me and hear my concerns and questions, did not try to sell me on anything I didn't need (unlike so many other dentists), and seemed knowledgeable and thorough in checking and cleaning my teeth. She was telling me how she took over the same practice from the dentist that she had been going to since she was a teenager. Many of her assistants and staff have also been working at the same practice for many years and were friendly too.
Bottom line: I've finally found a winner! I rarely give anyone on Yelp 5 stars. If you are looking for a new dentist or family dentist, I'd highly recommend you try Dr. Hamamoto out.

Dr. Hamamoto rocks! She's very calming, takes her time to explain things, and is incredibly patient & thorough. She has an awesome office staff too.. they're most helpful and flexible.
Update May 2007 - I just went in today and was seen by both Dr. H and Audrey. I continue to be impressed with their personal attention, expertise, and eagerness to provide an outstanding experience at the dentist's office. After going to the same dentist back east for 21+ years, I visited several dentists and struggled to find someone I felt comfortable going to. After a recommendation from a friend who's been visiting Dr. H since her childhood, I became one of Dr. Hamamoto's patients. Three years later I'm nothing but impressed with her care and my experience with Dr. H & her staff!

A dentist that I look forward to going to. She's been taking care of my teeth for almost ten years now. Get my teeth cleaned every six months and I've had a filling or two break away and nicely patched up. Highly recommended if you are in need of a dentist.

Dr. Hamamoto is great! She is super-nice, patient, and understanding. She also seems to take a genuine interest in you. I was freaked out about getting my first filling in years, but instead of dismissing my fears, she was calm and made sure I was comfortable with the whole thing. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Hamamoto has been my dentist for 5 and a half years. My appointments always start on time, unless I am the one who is late. Once I forgot an 8 am appointment the day after a holiday, but she squeezed me in anyway. She is also personable and professional.
I have a small mouth, and Dr. Hamamoto is the first dentist I've had as an adult who did not complain or remark to me how difficult it is to treat my teeth - as if I can do anything about it. If you're an average dentist, then you do adequate work on the average patient. If you're a better-than-average dentist, you can do good work on any patient.
Other dentists I've visited in the past seemed to find 2 or more cavities at every visit. My dental hygiene habits have not changed since then, yet Dr. Hamamoto has found the need to fill only two cavities in the 5 years I've been seeing her. She works quickly, explains what she is doing during the treatment, and I have not had any issues with the fillings.
