I had Lasik in March 2007. From that day, my answer to anyone who asks me how I feel about my Lasik has stayed the same: I don't know why I waited so long!
Dr. Kraff is the best in the biz. Period. Do your research because these are the only eyes you have. He's been at the forefront of Laser Vision correction since the beginning and continues to be on the cutting edge of new technology.
The office is conveniently located, the staff is awesome, and come on you get Valium and a cookie while you wait!!

The Kraff Eye Institute is without question the best place to go for any medical treatment of your eyes. I had Lasik done here by Dr. Kraff back in '04. My vision is still  20/20. =) Dr. Colman Kraff is the premier eye surgeon for Lasik in the US. You know that you are in extraordinarily capable hands there. Dr. William Lissner is a top flight opthalmologist as well. Their staff is on the teaching faculty of Northwestern's Medical School. The entire office functions efficiently--they run a tight ship that is still warm and kind. Both of my parents have had procedures here as well with outstanding results--they even provided transportation for them to and from their surgery!
Your eyesight isn't something that anyone would want to trust to anyone but the best--the only place to go in the Chicago area is the Kraff Eye Institute.

Just saw someone crap on this place and want to counter-review.  I had laser eye surgery from Kraff all the way back in 2001 and have been nothing short of ecstatic with the results.  My vision is just as good today (2009) as it was when I walked out of Kraff's office in 2001.  They are very good, competent doctors, which is exactly what you want if you are going to get this kind of surgery done.  They're the best.

I got Lasik at Kraff about a week ago and my eyesight is awesome!!  I actually could see about 90% better the second I got out of surgery.  This is by far the best thing I could have done for my eyes and going to Kraff to get it done was also the best choice.  The staff was wonderful!!  So helpful and informative and were always willing to answer any and all questions I had (and I had a lot!).  Dr. Kraff was also so amazing!!  He talked me through the entire procedure (as did his assistants) which made it so much more bearable and I knew what was actually going on.  I would recommend Kraff to anyone!  They did an amazing job and I couldn't have asked for better results.

I hadn't been to a real eye Dr. probably since high school and decided it was time to bypass the McDonald's of the eye world and stop going to Lens Crafters for my check ups.  I asked my Dr. and she told me to check out Kraff.  I have to say I didn't realize their impressive resume until AFTER my appointment.  It was fantastic.  The customer service was great, everything was really quick and easy.  The actual Dr. was a bit abrupt but being that I grew up in a town where Rex Grossman's dad considers himself to be Lord of the Eyes it didn't really phase me much.

I learned some cool stuff about my eyes too while grabbing my new scrip.  I'll be back in a year!

A week ago I was sitting in their waiting room letting the valium kick in before my PRK eye surgery (like Lasik for those of us with thin corneas).  Today, I'm obviously reading the net, putting lots of wetting drops in my eyes, and not wearing glasses after almost 20 years of wearing them daily.

And now I ramble:

1.  Dr. Coleman Kraff is not cold.  Do your doctors hug you and call you baby or something?  I found him to be incredibly professional, and even somewhat warm.  He knew exactly who I was each time he saw me and would bring up something from our last conversation that told me this.  Everyone in that office oozes confidence too, which is reassuring when you're dealing with your sight.

2.  The surgery didn't hurt at all.  I stared at the red light like they told me to.  I was told there would be pressure and I'd feel touching.  I felt neither.  But I was really really focused on not moving and staring at the red light.  The surgery room is like something out of star-trek too.  It's entirely made of glass, so my fiance could sit and watch me -- and apparently my eyeballs on a big flat screen tv.  He said he was probably more disturbed than I was.  I had been SO petrified the night before that I was in tears, but after the surgery, I was so giddy that I was calling family members to tell them that not only did I live - but I could already see and I wasn't in pain!  Woohoo!  The fiance thinks it was the Valium.  I think it was relief.  I kept my eyes closed for a few days and took my meds and drops as directed (books on CD are good things).  The pain was more like the way your eyes feel after swimming in HEAVY chlorine with them open....  not the "sand under the eyelids" that was described to me.  It was annoying but totally tolerable.  I'm a big big baby and my fiance kept saying "you're so cheerful! You're handling this so well!" because it was soooooo much better than I expected.

3.  Subsequent visits have been very professional, and they have handled my obscene amount of called in questions in a very kind manner.  (I don't want to mess up my eyes so I ask a lot of questions like "when my antibiotic eye drops run out...do I need more?" and "when can I wear eye makeup again?" and "Can I go running now?" The important stuff.).

4.  They always have free chocolate in their office - and it's good chocolate.  :D

5.  For those of you thinking of getting this done, here are good things to know.
- Leave yourself at least a week to heal.  It's different for everyone.  While they say that some people can drive after a few days, those people must be far braver than I am.  It took me about 5 days to feel comfortable driving, and because i'm not 20/20 yet - I'm still not TOTALLY ok with it.
- If you have PRK your eye sight will fluctuate over the next few months until it stabilizes at 20/20.  Do not freak out.  This is normal.
- Go to a local library and get many books on CD.  I got three not thinking I'd go through all of them - I did.
- It helps if you have someone to stay with you for a few days.  Honestly, I would not have wanted to recover from that alone because I really didn't want to open my eyes if I didn't have to.  The first night I also had my fiance put my drops in my eyes cause I was pretty out of it.
- One of the meds they prescribe is a pain blocker called Lyrica.  They told me I'd be fine to work on it - just feel a little out of it.  That was the understatement of the year.  I probably should not have driven to work on it.  You have to take one the night before surgery and are supposed to take another the morning of.  When I was standing on one foot in my bathroom touching my finger to my nose with my eyes closed to see if I really shouldn't drive - I decided not to take the next pill until I had no more driving to do that day.  Just something to keep in mind if you're a lightweight with meds like I am.
- Due to the meds I slept 12-13 hours a night AND took 2-3 hour naps for a few days after surgery.  I kinda miss that part.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this.  I'm seriously impressed so far and I'm REALLY glad that I did my research and went to Kraff.

Suddenly I see! Finally after some time I got Lasik done. Yes, another five star review for Colman Kraff.

As others have said, very professional. I did some of the screening at my eye doctor at Urban Eye Care and at Kraff they do them again just to be sure, makes sense because they're doing the procedure. They explained all the tests as you went along.

Once completed, they gave the file to Dr. Kraff and he meets with you to go over which procedure is best for you and what to expect. He also will ask you if you have any questions. I didn't find him cocky or rude, I found him to be confident and straightforward. For me this is what I want in a doctor.

It's been less than 48 hours since the procedure, and I'm amazed, tickled pink and giddy as a school girl that just got her first valentine card.

I'm going to spare you the details, you can go to their web-site to check out the procedure and their qualifications, which by the way are very impressive.

My eye doctor told me about Kraff about a year ago or so, then I saw Chris B.'s review. So I did pm him and he gave me so additional info. Also Daniel T., gave me a run down of what to expect over drinks one night at Olive or Twist. So thanks guys, you helped me decide to go for it. So happy I did.

It's like a religious experience. I can see! I can see! Hallelujah! I can see! Okay, so it was a laser and not a thump on the forehead that did it, but all the same, it feels like it.

I just had LASIK (actually, PRK, or LASEK, as it's called) about two months ago, and it is life-changing!!!

23 years of contact lenses, and 29 years of glasses/bad eyesight all told. ugh.

Colman Kraff is a great doctor, a great guy and a very patient and informative expert. I had done my research, and knew that THIS was one of the top places to get this laser procedure done in the entire country. I wasn't going to mess around at a strip mall LASIK place with my eyeballs on the line. And the price? The same as the other franchise locations!!!

And the process is fantastic -- you go for your appointment and eye test/checkup, then you go through an advisory meeting with one of the planners/advisors. You find out all of your options, hear about the recommendations for your particular situation, and then make a decision -- because of irregularities with my corneas, they determined that I was a better candidate for PRK (Photorefractive Keratotomy) than LASIK.

(Don't read the following paragraph if you're weirded out by the stuff...but read it for sure if you're considering the procedure -- feel free to contact me offline for more details, and for more guidance or info about my experience with the procedure!)

The major difference is that in LASIK you have the 'flap' cut, and in PRK you have the epithelial cels on the corneas (this is going to sound gross...turn your head if you're queasy) 'scraped.' The whole process took MAX 15 minutes...seriously. Numbing drops are all you needed, and Jacky even sat right outside the gallery-style window and watched the procedure on a big monitor! Painful? No...it just felt like having a torn contact in your eye for a couple days. 'Discomfort,' is the right word. After 2-3 days, regular eye drops and steroid drops, I could see pretty well, still fuzzy from the corneas healing, and about 1-2 weeks later -- CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!

Now -- I go to concerts and in the city and park ,etc., and I'm not joking -- I see clearer now than I ever have in my life. 20/15 vision, if not better. Unbelievable. No complications, Kraff has you come back in for regular checkups, and his amazingly friendly and helpful staff usher you through the whole process.

If you want this amazing procedure -- do not trust your eyes to anyone but a pro. And I HEARTILY recommend Kraff.

STOP READING IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A LASIK/PRK REVIEW!

Okay, now that's out of the way. I was referred to the Kraff Institute by a co-worker. I have a family history of eye disease, so I needed a great opthamologist to keep tabs on my peepers.

By dumb luck, I met with the elder Dr. Kraff. He's not the most warm fella around, but he's thorough and doesn't bullshit. That place is very well-regarded and very, very busy. They handled it all with ease. I was in and out within an hour and I can now boast that I have the best eye doctor around.

From the other reviews, LASIK sounds sweet. I wish I was a candidate. Damn those bad genes!

Just had CustomVue LASIK done yesterday, and I am a happy customer as well. Dr. Kraff is an excellent doctor, all of the staff are super nice, and I would highly recommend going here if you choose to have LASIK or PRK done!

I was one of the unfortunate who had a disproportionate amount of pain when I got home ( I hear this is rare). I also have a lot of blood in the whites of my eyes but this is a normal reaction for some people. I had been informed by a fellow Yelper of how much tearing goes and and she wasn't kidding-you will need a friend to take care of you for the first day. Luckily the narcotic they give you will make it go away fairly quickly.

I can see everything!!

I had Lasik Eye Surgery done at Kraff maybe three years ago now, and I am still thrilled with the results. Dr. Kraff is not the king of bed side manner, but his staff was great and he knows what he's doing. He's also not cheap - but these are your eyes, you shoudn't be bargain hunting anyway!

One of the things I really liked about Kraff was that they offered you a few different options for the day of surgery. They would pay for you to stay at the Marriot on Michigan Ave, which is what we did. Then you just cab it back and forth for your appointments, or they'll transport you via Limo to and from both of your appointments from your home. And that was all included in the cost of the surgery.

The staff at Kraff is amazing- they have some of the best customer service I have ever experienced.  After hearing my symptoms over the phone I was told a tech would call me back before 4:30- and she did.  I was fit in for an appointment 2 days later and had the same great experience in office.  The staff is extremely thorough and helpful.  The doctors are knowledgeable (I agree with Sam J.- not the joking type) but you feel assured they know what they're doing.
