The atmosphere is strange... there were family members coming and going upstairs through the lobby.
They close at 2 each day and re-open for dinner so we caught just the end of lunch... and the family was waiting on the enclosed front porch waiting for us to finish so they could leave. We couldn't see them while we were eating, but it gave me a strange feeling to walk past them all on the way out. (1 star deduction)
Good herbal iced tea, but we never got a refill until after dessert was delivered and then we had to ask. (1 star deduction)
Caesar Salad - AWESOME dressing fresh and bright and complex ! Worth the trip alone! Did not come in a side salad version, but the meal size made a nice appetizer to split.
Spaghetti Traditionale - very tasty pasta with a brown butter based tomato sauce. A very interesting combination and even after a generous portion we still wanted more.
Gyro - tangy Greek yogurt and a fresh chewy pita made this an exceptional lunch. A nice side salad was covered in a fresh herb vinaigrette and made for a filling lunch under $10.00
We splurged on dessert... woops... both the double chocolate cheesecake and baklava tasted homemade and were enjoyable... but... they were teeny tiny portions for $6.95 each. I would have marked off a star, but the taste was good and light.
My husband and I went here for dinner a couple months ago and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were the only ones in the restaurant for the first half of our meal. We got the whole works; appetizers, wine, 2 entrees and dessert. We tried two different wines, and out of the two we liked their cheaper house wine by far! We asked for recommedations for dinner as well. We had the sampler for an appetizer which was a good size, plenty for both of us. I had the gyro, but I can't remember what my husband had, although he still raves about it...and we ended with their delicious baklava. Prompt, very friendly service!
People! You should go there for lunch! We were alone in the restaurant except for one other couple. Not sure what it's like at dinner.
We went for lunch the other day. We love Greek food and my husband works in Auburn, so we thought we'd try it. I can only speak to what we tried (we'll have to go back again and try something else), but what we had was good.
The ambience was strange (we think the owners live upstairs in this house). But regardless, my Gyro was really good and the server was nice.
They have beer and wine and I'd say if you want to try something delicious and different, and you are in the Auburn area, you should try it. Give this local place some business! :)
This is the closest Greek restaurant to my mother's house and after moving back there from a year in Seattle, I craved Greek like no other. (Not to mention Thai, Indian and handmade panini and gelato.)
Also, the only other Greek type food I know of is in Federal Way, so if you're in Auburn and you like Greek, come to Kouros. They won't disappoint you, unless perhaps your family is Greek and has been cooking Greek food for you your entire life.
The Gyro platter is fantastic and the tzatziki is really good, too. Very friendly and they have AC, so if you're cold and it's hot out, this is the place to be.
Whoohoo!
Yay for good Greek food. So I decided to check this place out from the single review on yelp. I'm glad I did. This is some exquisite Greek cuisine. I believe it's run by Greek immigrants who came here many many years ago. I was going to read the little introduction from someone named "Tony" but I was attending to an important phone call.
Anyways, here is a brief synopsis of the place. It's located in Auburn not too far from the tracks, on Main street. It's basically a house with the bottom floor converted into a restaurant tat can seat 50 people inside? It also has a sun room with a few more tables as well as an outdoor patio area. The decor isn't really fascinating. It may be a little old but that's where the charm is for Mediterranean food.
Anyhow, I walked in for early dinner and was probably the first one there for dinner, suffice to say, service was really prompt and quick!
Since I skipped lunch, I felt quite hungry and wanted to try some appetizer as well as an entree. I ordered the Domaldes for appetizer and the Gyros for the entree.
If you dont know what Domaldes is, try it! Dolmades are delicate parcels made from grape leaves (also known as vine leaves) stuffed with long-grain rice, toasted pine nuts, fresh herbs and seasonings. Here at Kouros, they also put a little bit of meat inside. It's full of flavor and just delicious! I can't really describe it, it's like this zesty taste (from the leaves) mixed it with this goey/yummy mix of rice and meat. Trust me, it's REALLY good. They served me 4 of those along with some tzatziki sauce and pita bread.
The Gyros was one of the best Gyros I've tasted in the US. It is almost reminiscent of THE BEST gyros i've tasted in my childhood in Belgium. The meat is flavorful topped with tzatziki sauce and all in a big pita bread. They also had a Greek Salad to complement the Gyros; romain lettuce with feta cheese, dressing, olives, tomatoes, cucumber, etc...
Appetizers will run around $5-7. While entrees will run $10-26. The gyros was around $11 and the Delmades was around $6.
Well worth the price, it was oh-so-so-delicious.
Highly recommended if you happen to deviate from your course heading down south.
I wish there were more good Greek restaurants around so I didn't have to drive to Auburn to eat at one. This place has great Greek food and won't break the bank like some other restaurants of the same kind. If you're in the mood for some fun, tasty Greek food then head here. The staff's friendly and they make some killer baklava.
