Review from Jen R.
This is your typical kosher fast food place which has a lot of options and is great for large families.
Never ordered something here I didn't like. Sushi is good. Burgers are very good. I also recently ordered a soup from here which was really incredible.
This is a great spot for lunch and I often have it delivered to my office. That said, I've also eaten in the restaurant several times. It's fast food so there isnt much in terms of ambiance but i will say its a great place for a fast group meal - there is something on the menu for everyone and enough space to accommodate large groups.... and if you aren't one of those people in large groups, there is also enough space here to avoid them and eat your meal in peace. -

Making light of the stereotypes about one's own people can be very funny and a nice way to move beyond any actual hurt caused by them in the past. The Irish embrace their drinking. Italians play mobsters on TV. Asians write restaurant reviews. And so on.
That being said, I submit the following.
While on a secret mission in midtown, I decided to stop here and get some comfort food for lunch. I ordered the shawarma pita, which was well-stuffed and came with access to a bounty of Israeli salad toppings. I then went to the register and had the following interaction:
Moshe: Shawarma pita? Are you sure there's nothing else in there?
Evan: Yes.
Moshe: Are you sure?
Evan: Yes.
Moshe: ::gently lifts up my pita with a knife to check:: Okay, that will be $12.
Evan: ::pays:: Thanks. I needed some good Jewish food today.
Moshe: ::hands Evan a $5 off coupon:: Here, enjoy this next time you're here.
Evan: Thanks..I hope to make it back!
Moshe: What do you mean? Where did you come here from?
Evan: Home, just happened to be in the neighborhood.
Moshe: So you don't work here? These coupons are expensive.
Evan: Well....? If I am close by, I'd love to come back?
Moshe: I doubt this will be used. Thank you. ::takes coupon back:: You should have told me up front that you don't work around here.
You know...you spend centuries trying to combat this sort of perception. I feel like stealing a coupon back is the sort of meta-cheap that takes years to perfect.
FWIW, the shawarma was a bit dry; the salad and toppings were surprisingly wonderful. -

Just a review of the falafel... to go:
*YUM!*
I could really taste the chickpeas; this is a tan-colored falafel, not green. A whole pile of it comes in a big, spongy pita, with hummus. You can fill up your pita and a small plastic bowl they give you with fixin's from the bar: eggplant, health salad, pickles, various slaws, etc. Your basic Israeli-style falafel.
The place at lunchtime has a rush-rush frantic energy, but in decent weather you can go eat in the outdoor space down the block towards 6th Ave. -

Ordered from here twice, once an American dish, second a Chinese one. Good price, decent delivery time and it being Kosher is a plus of course although I am not Jewish or particularly Religious. The Chinese dish was very unique to say the least. The Chicken and Broccoli are steamed but they are slathered in a semi-sweet sauce which doesn't taste bad.
The Chicken looks different of course from your standard Chinese chicken. Although cut in the same way the look and texture is not as rough or rubbery and there is some sort of spice or seasoning in it (not sure of what it might be) which is light and not overwhelming.
My guess is if you order anything Chicken or Beef here you can't really go wrong. -

Yuckaroo. I've been a bit under the weather and got it in my head that I needed matzoh ball soup ASAP. Headed over to Kosher Deluxe with high hopes...hopes that were quickly and utterly destroyed when I took my first bite.
The soup tasted canned and had one of the sorriest matzoh balls I've ever seen; tiny, fractured, and dense. They also gave me a small bag of stale bread to throw in. Nice accompaniment! My girl's pastrami sandwich came on "rye bread" that had terribly soft crust and stuck to the roof of your mouth like Wonder Bread. The meat tasted pre-packaged and not fresh sliced like most delis. Overall...heinous.
I kicked myself for not walking out the door immediately after seeing chicken nuggets, lo mein, and sushi on the menu board. This combo of items in any single restaurant is, without a doubt, the clearest possible sign that you are about to experience an utter catastrophe for the taste buds.
Oh, and for what it's worth...this place smells and the floor and tables are filthy.
I have to wonder, are the people rating this 3 stars or better doing so because it's good Kosher food or simply good food? As a stand alone meal, it was without a doubt one of the worst I've ever had in any restaurant, Jewish or otherwise.

I am addicted to their shwarma, so I go here for lunch at least once a week. Shwarma is roasted lamb from a skewer; it's a mediterranean thing. The guy behind the counter (right at the door when you walk in ) is very skilled at preparing the food on the spot, he's like a machine and you can tell he's been doing it for a while. The rest of their menu is not very good, don't even bother, just go for:
"Shwarma on a baguette with humus and hot sauce to go".
And don't forget to grab some mediterranean salads too. My favorite is the tomatoes. -

I'm always in the market for a good kosher restaurant, and Kosher Deluxe seemed to be a nice find when in the mood for some kosher chinese. The chinese food is over-priced (obviously kosher chinese is going to be a bit more pricey, but even Eden Wok finds that it can get by with lower prices) but acceptable when you factor in the lack of delivery charge that some of the other kosher-chinese serving establishments throw at you.
Overall, the food was okay, but not spectacular, and I probably wouldn't order their chinese food again. -

This kosher deli/middle eastern grill caters to the diamond district crowd. While it does live up to its Kosher billing, I find nothing deluxe about this place (shouldn't every order come with lettuce/tomato and fries?)
The grill has falafel and chicken schwarma (no lamb available). There's a free assortment of israeli salads, pickles, etc. to dress up your sandwich - it's like a Jewish version of the Roy Rogers Fixin's Bar (http://www.royrogersre...) I've only had the falafel on pita which was one of the better ones I've had in the area (and only about $5) - i recommend grabbing some additional hummus from the salad bar b/c they don't spackle on nearly enough hummus. Also accept the side of tahini - good stuff.
The back of the restaurant is a combination Jewish deli and kosher Chinese restaurant. I've had the roast beef sandwich on rye a couple times which comes with cole slaw and a pickle. It's a little pricy ($10?) but the roast beef and the rye bread are better than the average non-Jewish deli. The Chinese food is priced about 50% higher than the average Chinese take-out place. And it's kosher. What's the point of eating Chinese food if it's pricy and pork-less? It's like masturbating with a condom on.
There's no table service but there is an eating area. It has as much ambience as you'd expect for a falafel/kosher deli in midtown.
Net-net, Kosher Deluxe isn't bad if you're in the area and craving Jewish deli (but don't need a sandwich the size of your head) or falafel/schwarma.... -

Shwarma on a pita with hummus, hot sauce platter. The salad pat is the best feature, it is not 'salad' per se, but and assortment of pickled things; cucumbers, onions, roasted eggplant. That and the shwarma and you are full, you should be for $9.70 or so. The guy up front is very fast, and knows how to serve up a good shwarma.
There is also Chinese food in the back. I have no idea how those two came together. I stick to the shwarma up front.
Restrooms are on the right, clean and well kept. Private stalls, 4 Flushes. There is also a sink outside the restrooms doors for quick hand cleaning. -

i used to like you, kosher deluxe.
you used to have fresh food and decent service.
now you have one of the shittiest cashiers i've ever experienced and your corned beef tastes like nothing. literally no taste. and it has the consistency of a used Ace bandage.
and it's overpriced.
i'm done with you.Listed in: Places that annoy me!

Good stuff: The deli sandwiches are fine and I recently had an Asian-ish chicken breast with veggies and rice that was even better than fine. Their non-dairy brownies are a hit, but I love chocolate and have no standards.
Not-so-good stuff: One time, there was a quarter-sized ball of unmixed flour in one of the brownies, but I just ate around it. The Steamed Vegetables with Beef was the most disgusting thing I've ever paid for. Really. Truly. Verily. The "beef" looked like the product of an alien experiment on grass-eating life forms -- gray, gristly yet fatty, and so vile as to be incredible.
I really can't decide how I feel about this place. My firm always orders from them when we're having lunches or conferences and need kosher food so I guess I better stay positive. Man, I wish Yelp allowed half stars... -

I've only ever had the falafels, and they're the best in New York. See, the trick to falafels isn't just the flavor(most places get that right) or the texture(most places screw that up). It's having the perfect array of salad to go with the falafel, good hot sauce, and good hummus. Kosher deluxe manages all these things, albeit at a higher price than I'd like to pay, but you get a ton of food for your money. With each falafel platter you can pile your plate up with as much of their 10 kinds of salad as you possibly can. The only thing that could improve on the experience is maybe some fresher Pita.

Review from Phil L.
I'm only giving this place three stars because of what I ordered. My coworkers ordered either the chicken tenders, fried chicken or sandwiches. None of them were very happy with their food. However, I ordered the falafel platter which was very good. The falafel were perfectly golden brown on the outside, with a nice crisp exterior, soft interior, and seasoned well. The salad was pretty lame and I wish they provided me with more pita bread. Kosher Deluxe is a very large deli and they have just about everything one can want. Would I come back here? For the falafel platter sure, but as far as everything else, I'm not sure.

This is my go-to delivery spot when I need some good old, kosher penicillin (i.e. matzoh ball soup) or some sweet kugel (just like bubby used to make it...) They are so fast, even though I live all the way downtown (with only a $5 delivery minimum)! It really hits the spot every time!

The only place I could find that would deliver down to the financial district at 10pm. Of course, it was past 11 when the food arrived, and the delivery man was less than friendly, but, hey, at that hour, go for it! Food was great, price was right (until the delivery man haggled over the tip, at least), and the late hours can't be beat (or at least, no one's trying!).

More like 3.5 stars. This place really is DELUXE. As in, they have kosher everything. The kosher Chinese offerings are pretty good, as is the falafel. And they have Dr. Brown's soda! However, the brisket is the driest I have ever consumed in my life. Fix that, and I'll give 4 stars.

I give this place 5 stars because they do a great job in many areas:
1) They have a very long menu with a variety of things from a chinese menu, deli, salads, shwarma, to cholent (on thursdays and fridays). Yes, a lot of the food is greasy and bad for you, but they do have plenty of healthy things on the menu. My favorite is grilled chicken with couscus and vegetables for $10. It is a full meal, healthy, and tastes very good. When I'm looking for something small and cheap I'll go for the chicken noodle soup for $4. I often end up just getting shwarma with a plate-load of salads.
2) The place is clean and well-maintained. They get good scores on city inspection.
3) The service is very quick. I never have to wait long in line, and delivery is the fastest.
4) Management does a very good job running this place. They are quick and very efficient. I once ordered a special that included fries. When the fries didn't come I called, and minutes later someone arrived with the fries. Management does a phenomenal job. I would want them on my team. -

I really love this place. Great selection (so many choices!) and good, straightforward food. I was impressed by how tender the beef was in the beef kebab and rice plate I ordered. For a fast food / takeout type of joint it is pretty good food.

There's a lot of good and a little bad in this cafeteria-style kosher eatery. The best stuff is to the right as you enter. You can't beat their Schwarma in a baguette with hummus, and the meat and potato borekas are excellent. I'd recommend you skip the chinese food and platters. It's overpriced and mediocre. But there's great soups and side dishes. I love the Kasha knish, although it can sometimes take them a while to prepare it. Good chicken egg roll too. The best thing here by a long shot, though? The desserts. Dairy free sweets aren't always the greatest, but the brownie here is rich and chocolatey, and the Pecan Pie is excellent. One of the best versions of this pie I've ever had. Chock-ful of pecans! You may want to be here on off-hours, though. It's a favorite lunch spot for the diamond district, and it can be packed, with lines out the door!
