Wow, I need to take another drive to PB!    I used to meet a friend for breakfast at Kono's!  I was so happy she introduced me!  I would have been scared off by the line if I'd gone by myself!  It actually moves rather quickly as long as you've figured out what you want before you get to the register!

I would get their combo sometimes with pancakes and sometimes with french toast.  Then we'd get our food and walk over to the outdoor seating by the ocean.  AAH THIS is WHY I MOVED from HOUSTON TEXAS!!!!!  How amazing to dine outside listening to the ocean, watching the waves and enjoying friends!

I found a similar place in Encinitas that I enjoy going to that has great food as well but, NO BEACH front seats!!!!!

The line here goes out the door and around the block. Fear not, however, because it's just people ordering at the counter. The line actually moves fairly quickly, and once you've placed your order, a table magically opens up.

My breakfast burrito felt like a 5 pound dumbbell full of eggs, sasuage, and avocado. Every time I went to take a bite, I was effectively doing a bicep curl. The meal itself was alright, but I wish this place had some more interesting breakfast items. I kept wishing there had been chorizo in my burrito instead...

Perfect place for visiting friends. It's got great local flavor and the best outdoor seating with a view of the ocean.... long lines during breakfast time may be intimidating but don't be afraid! It moves pretty quickly. I made a mistake one time and went to another place (I won't mention where) and it sucked! So sorry Konos, I will never betray you again...

Breakfast burritos are humongous here. Ever heard of people referring to burritos as "babies"? Well, Kono's burritos are healthy 9 lb babies that you won't be able to finish on your own!

I love the big breakfasts... gives you everything you could want, eggs, potatoes (the best! onions, peppers, cheese), and a choice of french toast, english muffin, or pancakes. It's really a lot of food. Great for sharing.

I love the staff. Definitely feel the love.

LOVE THIS PLACE!  Patio is dog friendly and they have selections that can easily be made gluten-free.  Yummy and priced right!  Come hungry for the big portions and spectacular Spiced Chai Lattes at the coffee stop.

We used to start every Sunday morning with a nice walk down the boardwalk to Kono's for a solid start-the-day breakfast.  They give you SO MUCH FOOD.  I dare you to finish one of the combos, let alone a burrito.  We agreed that there are approximately ten to thirty eggs in each burrito.

The food is normal, your general eggs, bacon, sausage, veggies type breakfast stuff.  But if you're smart, go across the boardwalk to their beachfront seating behind the trinket shop.  Watch the surf and sunshine, eating a cheap and filling breakfast: hell yes.

Careful; if you show up after 10am on a weekend morning, you'll be waiting in line.

You know that saying "You get what you pay for"? It does not apply to Kono's Cafe. A delicious, generous plate of food for under $6? WOW!

LOVE the Kono's potatoes, the pancakes were delicious too. My only regret? All the food we ended up throwing away because we couldn't finish it. Next time we'll split a Big Breakfast :)

Yup, there's a line.  Got there about 10am on a Friday.  Wasn't too bad a wait and it moved fairly quickly.  There's a huge chalkboard menu as you enter the joint above the register but it doesn't give enough detail.  If you are with someone, have them hold your spot in line and grab a to-go menu at the front counter.  It'll give you a better description on the items.

Anyway, being a fan of the breakfast burrito, I picked myself up Egg Burrito #3! Loaded with bacon, potatoes, cheese, and tons of eggs. Damn, that burrito was FAT!!!! No complaints here, my friend. I took a big bite into that thing and then floated into breakfast heaven.  Man, that was hella good. :)

To top it off, the cafe has a small patio right next to it. Patrons can chill and eat here while taking in the nice ocean breeze (or scoping out the eye candy that walks by). Watch out for da darn flys though. They tried to sneak a taste of my food but I hand swatted a couple of the buggers. PATAY!! (meaning "dead"). Think the other flys got scrurred and stopped bothering us.

Here's the deal: order was made quickly(when I got to the front of the line), it was a large amount, food tasted great, and chillin' by the beach is a definite plus! Totally felt it was worth the wait. For breakfast, it's a complete package and I will absolutely be back!

Great breakfast or lunch, right on the beach. Loads of great tasting food for the low price. The line sucks, but even when it's wrapped around past the karaoke place it usually doesn't take more than 15 minutes. This place will be in regular rotation for me while I live in the beach area.

By the way... I noticed that you can only buy Large, X-Large, and XX-Large Kono's tee shirts! I was shocked that they didn't carry medium and small until I finished my breakfast and wobbled down the boardwalk wondering if my stomach was going to get stretch marks. Tricky tricky Mr. Kono.

Mmmmmm good.

I've been working since I was 14, while other kids got to enjoy their Saturday mornings, I worked. I'm not complaining, but it has never left me much time to enjoy breakfast which is one of my absolute favorite meals.

10 (feel old saying that) years later, I've learned that in order to enjoy certain things in life, you just have to make time for it. So today, I made time for breakfast. I decided to try Kono's in Pacific Beach -it's a quaint little breakfast/lunch spot, right on the oceanfront. There is usually a line but we (I went with my friends Megan and Jane) got there around 7:30 so there weren't that many people. Once inside, the menu is pretty straight forward breakfast fare.

I ordered the Big Breakfast #2  which is French Toast, Eggs, potatoes, bacon and an english muffin. The food was delicious, and fresh. I'm a sucker for french toast and these were close to perfect. Eating outside is a great option and  was really amazing, it was a nice, cool San Diego morning (a little overcast) but the fresh ocean air really sealed the deal for me.

I highly recommend you check Kono's out, you won't be disappointed. If you feel like burning off your breakfast after, you can talk a walk on the beach (which is literally 10 seconds away)

Really cute place with great prices. Me and my friends went for breakfast and I got one of the combos with french toast. The portions are huge and prices are low. Try to get the seating across street that overlooks the beach, its really pretty on a nice day. Only bad thing for me was that halfway through my potatoes I got sick of them. But still highly recommend this place for breakfast.

I know that everyone rants and raves about Kono's, but I truly feel that it's overrated and that at least half of its appeal is due to its location right near the ocean and pier.

The food's OK, but I'm not willing to wait in a substantially-sized line again for it.

Came here for breakfast/lunch on a Saturday morning. Because it's in PB, the parking can be a pain, and the line gets pretty long (outside the door). BUT, it was well worth it. I ordered the Breakfast #2, which includes french toast, an english muffin, eggs, and potatoes, for $6.50. It was delicious and the portions are huge. I ended up only eating half. I should have shared... what a waste :\. Prices fairly inexpensive for the size of the portions. The downside to sharing is that if you ask for an extra plate it costs an extra 75 cents.

I also ordered a "large" orange juice for $2.25, which seemed to me like a regular sized cup of OJ, and the guy who took our order poured it straight from a gallon of store bought orange juice (I don't remember what brand) into my cup. Kind of strange, but it didn't taste bad.

There is an overall great atmosphere, since it's by the beach. There's plenty of seating outside, so you have an awesome view of the beach. After our breakfast, we took a walk along the beach, so that was nice :).

Overall, I digg this place and definitely recommend trying it out! I'm totally going to go back for more!

I came across this place on my run down the beachfront strip. Saw the sign for their special and thought it was worth a try (plus the line was out the door...usually a good sign). So when I finished my run, the fam bam and I drove back to check it out. The line wasn't too long. Just a yard or so from the door and it moved along pretty fast. With a 2 yr old son, fast is good. Never know when he'll get restless. Placed the order and it was ready in no time. Had the french toast and it was yummers. The Mr. had the special which is just ur basic pancakes eggs n sausage. He loved the pancakes. Great food. Great prices and great scenery. A good way to start your day after a long run.

Breakfast spot #11 was at Kono's in PB where you too can dine on average tasting food while watching a guy rollerblade in a thong.

Well, the food is nothing spectacular. Slightly better than what you might be served at Denny's (at least when it comes to the pancakes and maybe eggs). The potatoes come with onions and bell peppers which weren't really my thing.

Big Breakfast # 1 - http://www.yelp.com/bi...

The food wasn't worth the 15-20 minute wait in line, in my opinion. Again, not horrible but nothing special. At least the price didn't make my wallet feel like it had been sodomized.

I'm definitely not a morning person and this is especially true on the weekends.  However, when friends are visiting from out of town, I guess anything is possible.  Parking can be difficult in PB, but we agreed to meet at Kono's at 8am to beat the crowds.  However, there was already a line forming even then.  This place is clearly a local hotspot for some of the best breakfast deals in town.  With kayaking, a workout, dinner, and karaoke on the horizon, I was going to need all of the energy food I could get.

I opted for the big breakfast #2, a hungry man's feast of French toast, a heaping pile of potatoes and eggs, bacon, and a biscuit.  The French toast was very good but I wish that they had some real maple syrup to go over it besides the single serving high fructose corn syrup stuff.  Besides that, it was great.  Ever since I started working out, I seem to be able to eat less and less for better or for worse, and I was unable to finish my huge brunch.  I always hate wasting food but there was absolutely no way I was going to completely consume this thing unless I wanted aches and pains to plague me as I kayaked.  Ultimately I made the right choice to discard the extra carbs and pat my already big belly in satisfaction.

For what you get for the price, there is no better value in town than Kono's.  Just be sure to come early enough to get ahead of the lines or you will definitely find yourself waiting quite a while for your meal.  Huge is the operative word for this place so come with a huge appetite while braving huge lines and enjoying your huge breakfast and you'll be leaving with a huge grin on your face.

A solid four. If you weigh the quality of the food against the price, it'd be a five.

We went around 2 pm and if you are adverse to waiting in line, I suggest you don't come any earlier than this. We had zero wait and didn't have to fight to get a table outside on the deck which was nice. The view is spectacular, and the people watching is interesting to say the least. Apparently rollerblading is in fashion again, or maybe it's that the bladers thought they were on Venice Beach. Who am I to judge though, right?

The food was very generously portioned and the prices were very fair for the amount of food you get. I got the "chicken jalapeno pita" and I couldn't really find any semblance of a pita, because the pita was flat on the bottom of the plate (much like a tostada) and I never got to it. My bf got a breakfast plate that had french toast, eggs and a potato skillet concoction that easily would cost upwards of $13 elsewhere for $6.50. It filled him up which is generally a hard fete.

We'll definitely come here again but you won't find us there before noon as the lines get pretty ridiculous.

Ok, this place is wonderful for so many reasons. Not only are their breakfasts delicious and cheap but also you get to eat while looking out at the ocean. Perfect combo in my opinion. There are several decks you can choose to sit, but for the best view, go right past the shop with the hammocks and you will find your breakfast oasis. The one downfall is Kono's is a local favorite, so do plan in standing in line when you get there, (but it is worth the wait)! And sometimes parking can be a problem in PB. The Big Breakfasts are huge-- it is a over-piled plate of food! You could easily spilt it (their is an extra charge for an extra plate but only 75 cents). The pancakes are fluffy and very tasty.

Thank gawd my Seester is not on Yelp. She took me here yesterday and I was genuinely excited after reading the reviews on Yelp. I was sorely disappointed.

The line wasn't that long. But we got there around 10am. I would wait for 30 minutes if the food is "know me off my socks good". I truly love good food but this is average-mediocre-poorly seasoned food. It's pretty hard to mess up breakfast but these guys did it. I got the Little Breakfast with Kono Potatoes, Eggs and Wheat Toast with Bacon on the side. I'm not a fan of the cheese that they add into their Kono potatoes (aka homefries). Something was also up with the toast. I guess it wasn't really toasted or there wasn't enough butter but I could only get down 1 mouthful. You also need to get more jelly as they gave us 1 prepackaged jelly thing for 4 slices of toast. Eggs and Bacon were good and sitting on the patio was nice but Kono's doesn't deserve it's good rap.

My coworker takes me here during out lunch break. He is raving about the kick butt breakfast burritos. I remember reading about the burgers, so I plan to eat a little of both. He will order the Egg Burrito #3, and I will order the Cheeseburger with fries. We will share. Sounds like a plan.

So we arrive there and find parking very close by. Only about 6 people in line. Good. We wait in line and I look around. It is a pretty laid back surfer type of atmosphere. You know surf boards on the wall, a lot of blue, a lot of wood theme. The price was OK, around $7 for me and we go outside to sit down.

They have a FANTASTIC outside seating area. It is across from the restaurant toward the beach behind a souvenir shop. He kind of just told me it was there, otherwise I am not sure I would have known we could sit there. So they bring us our food as we sit looking at the beach.

The burger itself looks pretty well built. A nice fluffy bun that looks a bit artisan. Good juicy looking patty, decent vegetables. The fries though, wow they sure look oily.

So I take a bite. Like I said, the bread is pretty well made. Not the best, but it has a fine texture, a pretty good amount of air in it. A little bit in limbo with the moisture of the bread. Is it moist, is it dry? Ehhh.. not sure. Oh well. The vegetables are fine. They seem fresh enough. Not the most flavorful. The heat from the patty has sort of killed the taste of the vegetables. Cheese is run of the mill. I guess we shall discuss the patty.

The burger patty itself. Not so great actually. It is more heat than flavor. Not heat as in spice, just temperature hotness. Its weird. Like Dave's Famous Cafe, this meat has no seasoning. The thing is, unlike Dave's Famous Cafe, it has no natural meat flavor either. it is like it has been stripped out of it. The overall flavor is just... just so muted. It is entirely forgettable. I don't hate it, but the only thing I can say is that it didn't fall apart, and it didn't taste like dirty butt. Which is good.

The fries are oily throughout. They taste like nothing. I ask my coworker to try it. "Yea they kinda suck. There's nothing to 'em". My thoughts exactly. Crispy on the outside, nothing everywhere else.

So I take a piece of my coworkers breakfast burrito. Well at least I thought I did. I had to take a second look because it didn't taste like anything. The eggs were of course unflavored eggbeaters. The tortilla was store bought but THANK GOD not 1 inch thick. There were veggies and meat in here I think, but again, it was so muted. Its a shame.

I see other people getting the pancake and french toast breakfast. It looks SO GOOD, but... but so did mine. I am very torn. Should I one day go back and try the pancakes or french toast? Perhaps. The view of the ocean while you are eating is killer. The food though, no where near as attractive.

You can get a better burger and fried for $3 cheaper at Dave's Famous Cafe, and that one isn't even that good either. But it is better than this. Its kind of like recommending McDonal's on street X over McDonald's on street Y. What's the point.

Go somewhere else if you want something flavorful. The more and more I think about it, the more disappointed I am. What a horrible let down.

Definitely not good enough. Although, I was not offended or disgusted by the food. So that's one extra star for them.

Kono's offers amazing breakfast!  I've only been here a few times and thats all I ever order, even if it's three in the afternoon.  Its right at the end of Garnet and it's normally packed, especially on the weekend.  It's a casual place, you order your food and they call out your name and bring it out to you.  It's super cheap considering the amount of food they give you.  The only thing is that they should offer more items on the menu, but maybe they just want to stick to what they do best.

Picture This:
It's 70-75 Degrees outside, the sun us shining, the ocean waves are crashing, the boardwalk is hustling and bustling with beach cruisers, skateboards and oh look! there goes Flash - the half naked man rollerskating around in a speedo with his body painted as an aligator... Can you picture it? .... Yes folks, It' your perfect San Diego Day. You really cant get any better than this when you visit Konos. Food Sun and Fun all in one spot.

Konos always delivers and hits the spot. This is my go to place for breakfast or lunch. I love bringing out of town friends here to experience the whole vibe of PB in the morning while they chow down on pancakes or their breakfast burritos. The Portions are huge, prices are cheap, and the people watching never gets boring.

Note: Arrive Early! If you head to Kono's on a Saturday or Sunday morning--prepare for long lines and table battles. Week day mornings provide a more relaxing atmosphere.

Ps. Miss you Flash!

I decided to go for the "FULL" Konos experience and go for breakfast at 10:30 on a perfect summer Saturday morning. I have to admit that normally I would have taken on look at that line and kept on pedaling by. But, I stuck it out and ended up with a decent breakfast. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that it took me 50 minutes to get to the counter. People giving up and walking away seemed to make the line move faster than anything else.

Konos has a pretty good selection of breakfast plates. I had pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. The eggs are good. Light, fluffy and have some cheese scrambled into them. The bacon is crisp and the pancakes fit the Webster definition pancake perfectly. Nothing too exciting.

The price was right at $4.95 + tax. and I ended up happy that I didn't end up going somewhere else and spending much more.

Part of the secret to making Konos an enjoyable experience, (Other than visiting off peak hours) is to go around back and get some coffee before getting in line. If you have more than one person, you can always send one out to scout, mark, and stand guard over a table.

Don't forget that there is an additional patio area across the boardwalk, looking ever the beach. It's tucked behind the Swings N Things store and is for Kono's customers.

Konos, with its surfboard and tiki themed deco, is one of those places that just feels SoCal and is a PB "must do". You can order breakfast all day long so if you want to try it out, stop by around 2:00 and you shouldn't have to worry about lines.

Starving, my dad wanted to kill me when I made him walk by 5 places on the boardwalk just to wait in line at Kono's.

To appease him, I secured seats on the deck across the boardwalk overlooking the beach then went back to wait in line.

After devouring the enormous breakfast burrito, we were all good again.  He even thanked me for introducing me to this little cafe that had a line around the corner.   It's worth the wait.  Take my dad's word for it.

It is a tradition of my friends and I to go for a bike ride through PB, and eat at Kono's. It's good to go with a decent size party - so one person can stand in line to order, and the other people can scout out a table. The line honestly doesn't take that long, but there is always going to be one. Just expect it.

There's nothing on the menu that is vegan as-is. But you can get a little creative, and come up with something. I normally get the kono potatoes with no cheese, or a bowl of fruit and an english muffin with no butter. The food is ok, nothing to write home about. Nothing I couldn't make just as well, if not better, at home. But the location is amazing. Being so close to the beach, after a good bike ride, enjoying some food with your friends  is worth the wait as well as the simply decent food.

If i was what i ate, id be big, cheap, easy, and filling.

If i was what i ate, id be a breakfast burrito #3 with Avocado.
which is: eggs, bacon, potatoes, cheese, pica sauce, and avocado.

The Burrito was bigger than my face.  I want to say it weighed about a good pound.  Nothing but protein in your face!  (yeah yeah yeah, "thats what she said" i know your thinking this.)  I have heard that this joint was good.  Everyday i have been going  to the beach and hanging out with Matt.  We finally ventured into Kono's.  Service is good, for a place that takes your order and within minutes of sitting down you get your food, in either a red basket or a paper plate.

The burrito i got was massive, filled with yummy goodness, everyone else was content with their food as well.  No complaints what so ever.  I guess ill be coming here when im around the pier!

Every time I run by this place it has a line... and I'm sweaty- so I finally made it a point to go (when I wasn't too sweaty..) Any who- the servings were huge and the prices were low. I got a veggie sandwich, but I was so hungry I stole off my friend's plate! The pancakes were fluffy, light, and good- not too sweet. Also, the potatoes and eggs were yummy. I would definitely go back- I want a breakfast burrito to go next time!

**I don't want to discourage anyone by the 2-star review**

Kono's is a great place to have some decent breakfast grub and the scenery is great when you can get a table outside and the weathers good!  The wait in line brings it down a half-star and the small capacity brings it down another half. Otherwise a proper 3 star rating would be in order. The food is nothing I haven't experienced somewhere else though...but it's pretty good. I just usually go for the ambience...

Everything about this place is ridiculous.  The view (insanely good from the patio across from the restaurant overlooking the beach and pier) and the size of their breakfast burritos.

I first stumbled across this place about four years ago.  I vividly remember a fellow diner talking about all these little secrets at Disneyland, and darn, I should have been taking notes.  Originally I read about Kono's in a guidebook, so it is on the tourist map, hence the long lines.

I can see how some people give this place a 5-star rave (the view and the cheap prices), but it just isn't my kind of place.  I'd rather have a little bit of excellence then a whole lotta bland.  The breakfast burritos are laughably supersized.  My guess is at least two pounds and I could cradle it in the crook of my arm like a baby.

The coffee cart out front is great, so combined with the location they squeeze by with three stars.  Worth a 30 minute wait?  No way.

My favorite place for breakfast!

Whenever I go here I'm torn between getting Burrito #3: bacon, eggs, potatoes (I like to add avocado and green chile and ask for salsa), and Big Breakfast #2: Eggs, bacon, potatoes, English muffin, and French toast.  Make sure to order the eggs scrambled-they throw cheese in it!  As a solution to this dilemma, I usually drag somebody with me where I can order the burrito and they can order the big breakfast and we can split and trade so that I can get the best of both worlds!

The portions are generous, the prices are beyond reasonable, the view of the beach (behind the wind chimes shop) is entertaining, the food is good, I believe the only downsides I can think of are:
1. cash only.  I'm one of those people that hates carrying cash so to me, that's a downside.
2. This place is such a deal that the lines can get really long.  I'm almost tempted to write a bad review so I don't have to compete with the long lines....hmmm.

No, seriously, my favorite breakfast place.

I love that you can sit watching the waves come in and eat a breakfast burrito that is as big as your head for $4.75. Great place.

I love walking to Konos with my boyfriend on Saturday mornings. The food is terrific with a variety to choose from, plus the food is priced pretty low considering the quantity of food you receive. The staff is friendly and there is a beautiful deck to sit and eat. The only downside is the line to order, but whenever you see a consistent line you know they're doing something right. Worth the 15-25 minute wait!

There's a reason Konos has a line 50 people long at 10am.  It's because they're goddamn DELICIOUS.  I get the Breakfast #1 (eggs, cheese, sausage, avocado, their awesome sauce...) and am always pretty blown away from how delicious it is.  I think part of the reason it's SO worth it is that a huge breakfast burrito is less than $5!!  I mean, for something as high quality as their breakfast burritos, I would pay twice that.   Well, almost.  It's not like money grows on Robin's or anything.

Seriously though, at the very least, worth a try.  But wake up early.  If you have to wait in that ridiculous line you're so starving and irked by the time you get to the front that there's a good chance you're not going to enjoy your meal.  I'll get there around 830 and maybe wait 10 minutes.  Much more doable.  And if you get there *super early* you can get an awesome spot a few steps away from Kono's overlooking the ocean.  There's really not many better ways to start the day.

Well, except for, perhaps, Konos came to ME.

My friend and I came here on Memorial Day at 10am and found the line to be intimidatingly long. However, other Yelpers said that line moves pretty fast so I was undaunted.

...and so we waited. And waited. We didn't get our food until 10:45 or so. Maybe the service was slower than usual? I just kept thinking "Man, this food better be worth the wait."

And was the food good? I thought for the price, the breakfast fare was satisfying and flavorful. My friend and I shared the french toast & bacon plate, and the egg scramble #3 (which includes eggs, potatoes, cheese, bacon, and the picadillo sauce). Both plates were under $5.

I was a big fan of the simple and sweet french toast. It was not a very thick slice that I have gotten used to eating at other breakfast eateries, but the toast was soft, moist, and delicious when dipped into syrup nonetheless. The bacon was also nicely crisped, brown, and not too greasy. The hefty burrito was filled with ingredients. I found the potatoes inside to be on the dry side, but it tasted good overall with the sauce.

Like everyone says, come early to beat the crowds. But even if you can't make it out before 10am, and have time to spare, Kono's is worth the wait.

Yummm, cheap eats, and big portions!  We walked over here and discovered a fast moving line, and friendly counter service.  It was super hard to decide amongst all the delicious options, but I settled on the bacon potato egg burrito with jalepenos.  Mmm, huge and delicious.  If I would change anything, I don't exactly need a 1/2 pound of bacon in my burrito, but mmm, it did taste yummy!
The ketchup that was sitting in the sun with the tabasco sauce tasted a little weird, kinda like maybe an 'off-brand' or was that because it was sitting in 80 degree weather for who knows how long? haha.  All was good, with the ocean view, great atmosphere, and delicious food.

there is a hidden back patio with table service right on the pier we discovered as we were eating on the back patio behind the restaurant.  We will be sitting there next time!

it's difficult to find parking here, and the line is usually out the door, but if you're patient enough to jump those hurdles, then you're in for a treat.  the breakfast food here is amazing, and you can even go across the way to eat your meal on the deck with an ocean view.  pancakes, bacon, and eggs!!  o, excuse me, i'm drooling...

Cheap. Filling. Yummy.
The environment embodies a beachside stop for locals. It's got a friendly, familiar, and spunky atmosphere with cute sayings on their signs.

Menu is split into breakfast and lunch and I think everything is pretty good for its price.

_Egg Breakfast burrito #1_
LOTS of scrambled eggs and a little bit of sausage, cheese, and avocados
good tortilla skin and very filling but it needs some salsa

_chicken jalopeno gyro_
YUM =]
you have to dig past the gigantic layer of lettuce but once you get to the bottom...you'll find a soft and chewy pita bread with salsa, jalopenos, and chicken
the chicken had REALLY GOOD FLAVOR! it hits you right when you put it in your mouth!

i could see a lot of locals frequenting this place
definitely worth the $!

When Karen promised me she was going to show me San Diego and wow me with how great it was, I figured that after my trip I would be writing more Yelp reviews in one day than Nic B. and Monica R. both write in one day combined. (As we all know, that says a lot.) The first place K-Flex decided to take me in San Diego that I could Yelp was Kono's Cafe. It also was a reunion of sorts, as The Faja was going to be joining us for brunch as well. By the time "I Drive Through Red Lights" Flexer and I got there, the line was out the door. However, she claimed that it moved really quickly. However, I think it may move really quickly in terms of San Diego and not New York time because it felt like forever. After looking at the menu that Karen got from inside, I was in a bind because I wasn't sure what to get. She kept raving about the Breakfast Burritos, although the Breakfast Scramble sounded awesome as well. When she sat down to get us a table, The Faja and I talked about current professional Jewish athletes and asked the people on line in front and in back of us what they recommended. They gushed about the breakfast potatoes like they were being invited to the prom by the hottest guy in school. So, while Karen decided to get Burrito #1 (Good choice, since I think I would be too scared to get Burrito #2, if you know what I mean), I wound up getting the Breakfast Scramble and The Faja wound up getting The Little Breakfast so we can both have some of those potatoes to see what the fuss was about.

I loved the inside of Kono Cafe. The vibe was extremely casual and laid back and the decor was a surfer's dream. It looks exactly what a restaurant on the beach should look like. When you sit down and observe everything, you feel that  you are eating in the Ron Jon Surf Shop or Salty Dog Surf Shop of brunch places. They actually had surfboards on the wall, as well as witty surfing related signs. The staff also plays music that perfectly reflects the chill, surfing vibe. The best part of the decorations and music, is that none of it seems cheesy or forced. Everything seems totally natural and authentic. It's not like they are trying way too hard to draw you in as being a tourist attraction, where they are decked out with Kelly Slater posters and pictures from Point Break, while playing The Beach Boys on loop. In fact, it is exactly the opposite, which means they probably focus all their attention on why you are there to begin with, which is to eat. (Note: If you know K-Flex like I do, she would probably write in surfer-talk in this paragraphs by typing things like "Gnarly," "Hang Ten," and "Wipeout" here, but I won't do that because I am nowhere close to her on the loser graph.)

The food came out super fast. We were seated for not even five minutes when it was delivered to us. As soon as the food came, I instantly hated myself for not remembering two things. The first was to ask for egg whites, and the second one was to ask for dry toast with no butter. What the hell was wrong with me I have no idea. I must have been either starving, distracted by conversation with The Faja, or distracted by Prettyface. Either way, Jayster was forced to eat like a fat man, and if he has to eat like that, the food better be good. Needless to say, Kono Cafe didn't disappoint. The scrambled eggs were well cooked, soft, fluffy, and delicious. They were pretty much everything you would want in your eggs. K-Flex's burrito was pretty good, but not worth the hype that she made it out to be. (Note: This probably makes us even for what I did for you with La Rosa lol.) The potatoes were absolutely amazing though and The Faja and I both felt like we definitely made the right choice for getting them. They were perfectly well seasoned, crispy, flavorful, had the perfect amount of cheese on them, and were extremely delicious. Even though I don't do the delicious dance, (again cause I am not the dork in the relationship) that doesn't mean they aren't delicious dance worthy. I HIGHLY recommend these potatoes to anyone who eats food, because they are that impossible not to enjoy. Even though Karen said she thinks the Faja wanted to grill me this time, he didn't because he was so much in love with the potatoes or he just loves me so much already he doesn't have to. Either way, this was the perfect place to go to start off showing me San Diego, in terms of the atmosphere and deliciousness of the food. Good choice K-Flex...good choice.
