So I recently moved to DC and was disappointed to learn that there are relatively few good sushi options in the area despite the massive population and the proximity to the Atlantic (can you believe it?!).  In fact, I spend many sushiless-nights (and some bad sushi-filled nights) lamenting DC's sushi options and feeling nostalgic about the Michigan sushi I had never truly appreciated until I left town.  Upon hearing this tragic tail, one of my friends drags me out to Koji for sushi, insisting I won't be let down.

Glancing over the sushi menu full of glossy photos, one roll catches our attention: the Northiville Fire Roll.  Not only is the roll huge, it is stuffed with seafood goodies and cream cheese.  Our eyes widen in anticipation as the waitress bops up to the table, pulls out a lighter, and promptly lights the roll on fire!  At this point, we are like kids in a candy store.  Purple and orange flames lap up the sides of the foil-wrapped sushi, cooking it ever so slightly and infusing it with a sizzling smokiness.  Delicious and exciting (not only for us, but for everyone else in the restaurant who at this point is also watching the flaming sushi light up our little booth).

We also order the sushi combo with 7 pieces of nigiri (the fish is extremely fresh and buttery and the cuts are ample--in other words, the nigiri is the bomb...or is that the Northivilled roll?!) and a tuna roll (also tasty).  All in all the combo is a great deal.

Of course we can't stop there, so we throw in a caterpillar roll (also massive): fresh spicy tuna and veg inside covered in more than enough avocado on top (if you are an avocado lover you have to get this one!).

On top of the great food, the staff are extremely friendly and all greet you as you walk in and thank you as you walk out.  Plus Koji itself is actually kind of small, making it cozy and intimate.  Oh and by the way, out total: $40.  What a steal! I'm definitely going to hit up this place as much as possible in the next three weeks!

The Wife and I have sampled many Sushi places in the Metro Detroit area and let me tell you how fortunate we are to have this GEM so close to home! Let me start by saying the product, ALWAYS fresh, succulent and prepared with soul. We frequent there quite often and have been since it first opened. The waitstaff and Chef always greets us with big smiles and a genuine courtesy that can be hard to find in other places. The Salsa Roll is our absolute favorite (be warned it can be uber spicy;-) Sashimi Yellow Tail is my favorite ending note even their specialty rolls have filled my belly with joy and fullness to the brim. All for a reasonable price given the quality of the product. Oh, and the rice is always spot on. All in all, some dang good digs.

This spot is located in cute downtown Northville.  Upon entering everyone was friendly and welcoming.  It's a pretty cute atmosphere and they have pretty good sushi.  I liked the lobster roll and spicy california roll.

The atmosphere is good, i liked the music, very hip but... the portions were small especially for the price! $4.75 for 6pcs of a california roll, give me a break. I got another roll to help fill me up, i asked the waitress how many pieces it was and she said 6...it was 5. OHHHH and none of the rolls came with miso soup which a lot of places give you free soup and/or salad.

Ive been looking for a good, fairly priced sushi place but this is not it. Too much money for way too small of portions!!

I like this place. Its very friendly and the sushi is very tasty. They have good deals at lunch which is nice.

I stopped in with my usual sushi partner in crime, my mother. I had the chirashi as that is a big thing of mine. Something about a little container filled with a variety of different sashimi on sushi rice makes me happy, I thought 12 bucks was reasonable for what I got. My mom went with a bento box with four pieces of nigiri (the usual suspects), a california roll, assorted tempura and a salad, it was ten bucks. They had a nice little selection of luncheon things for around the 8-11 dollar mark.

We also had a tasty phoenix roll which was tempura shrimp roll topped with spicy tuna and sauce. I really wanted to get the black dragon roll with the eel on top instead by my mom was paying so I let her get what I know she likes, besides she's my mom.

I thought the miso soup was nice here. The tea was hot and kept filled and fresh as were our water glasses.

Service was pleasant, they seemed eager to please. They were not super busy but we were at the tail end of the lunch period.

I would be more than willing to give it another whirl. It's very convenient from my parent's place.

After a much anticipation, I finally tried Koji tonight. Overall, I was very impressed. Now that I know I have a very acceptable sushi joint within walking distance of my house, I can definitely increase my sushi intake... this makes me happy.

The service was great (but there were only 2 tables with customers sitting at them), the food was fresh and very satisfying, the prices were moderate, and I loved the picture menu that explained the rolls. The one thing that threw me off was that the overall sushi menu wasn't as extensive as other places that I have been.

Koji gets a thumbs up from me and will definitely make my wallet happily a little lighter!

Great prices, speedy service, and a pleasant waitress are getting top points from me.  I'm very pleased to have a great sushi place right in downtown Northville as I would prefer to spend my dollars on local businesses.

My husband and I have been dining at Koji weekly since they opened.  Booths are on the small side, but the seating is comfortable, the atmosphere is pleasant and inviting, and the sushi is super fresh.  I just wish we would see this place with more customers!

Hand rolls are wonderfully crunchy and fresh.

We had dinner here Friday night and it was actually really busy!  There were only two servers for about 15+ tables so we did have to wait about 10-15 minutes to get our drink and food order in.  But everyone that worked there was very friendly.

I think this place was ok.  It wasn't anything spectacular.  It is helpful that they have a picture menu of the different sushi rolls and what ingredients are inside of them but all the roll combos I've seen before but with a different name.  Overall the sushi roll menu is lacking in creativity and the rolls are on the smaller side.  The fish are fresh but I've had better!

Typically, my rating for Koji would be 4 or 5 stars, but my experience yesterday left me a little flat.  Slow to greet, close to 20 minutes to deliver sushi.  Quality was off on the rainbow roll, fish was not really the sushi grade and the pieces of fish were small and broken.  The unagi was really fatty and the dragon roll was poorly put together and we left with no good ROI, as we typically leave feeling good with our $50-75 investment....not yesterday.  I hope they were just off last night as I enjoy this sushi stop.

I heart Koji :) I have been waging a constant battle not to drive to East Lansing to get sushi every time I want some, because I am so addicted to SanSu.

I have finally found a place that has great sushi I want to eat again in the Metro area and is conveniently close to work and a bestie's house...YAY!

I was kinda surprised that there was not a huge selection of rolls, but nonetheless, what they did have to offer was awesome.

I will def be back to this place...asap :)

This is one of my favorite sushi places. Cheap, and pretty good. I would recommend the Hawaiian Rolls. They are my main reason for going back everytime! It leaves you full, and soon after; wanting more.

The sushi here is pretty decent. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here (I prefer Shiro), but if I'm around downtown, it hits the spot. Also, Koji is open all day as opposed to many sushi places that are closed for a few hours between lunch and dinner. So, if I'm craving sushi at an odd hour, Koji is my go-to place.

I had sushi from Koji for the second time last night. The first time was carry out and it was superb. The dining experience last night was relaxing and the sushi was once again top notch. They opened recently and just got their liquor license so we were able to enjoy a selection from their considerable list of wines. I plan to return to this restaurant frequently.

You can't beat the lunchtime Bento boxes here. Eight bucks for a nice amount and variety of food. Much cheaper and tastier sushi than most places in the area. The dragon and caterpillar rolls are the best.

Perhaps not destination sushi. But worth a visit if you are hanging in Northville and in the mood for sushi.
I can't attest to Julie's complaints except perhaps the sushi rice's sauce needs a bit more of the sticky icky or actually whatever gives it the attributes to hold together because a couple pieces that I picked up required some decently fast chop stick skills. However, the consistancy of the rice seemed fine.
Upon arrival, the place did encompass a scent of a small restaurant serving fish related cuisine, but I guess that's what it is. The raw fish was fresh and we ordered the rainbow roll to be sure.  Not to mention, the prices are nice. Approximately three bucks less for each of my favorite speciality rolls,  Dragon included.
I'll save the most endearing characteristic for the end: Koji epitomizes service with a smile. Although, if you are looking for a bustling environment this place will not suit, but then again, neither will the quaint downtown Northville.

Average at best. It was not a good sign when the miso soup and ebi su and tako su were served with dry, crunchy, non-reconstituted seaweed. Then when we finally got our sushi (we were in no hurry, but despite the fact that we were enjoying conversation and drinks with good friends it took a noticeably long time to fill our order, even  though the restaurant was only about 1/4 full) the fish was fresh enough. But, the rice supporting the nigiri sushi was of poor consistency, totally falling apart when you picked it up. Also, the California and spicy tuna filling for rolls was pasty and super-mayonnaise-y, which I find unpalatable and interpret as an attempt to stretch the fish and/or disguise Krab-with-a-K (which was abundant) . Service was friendly, the dining room is decorated in warm, inviting colors, and prices are reasonable, but none of that is enough for me to want to go back. I'd opt for Cherry Blossom or Shiro for sushi if you're in or near the 'Ville.
