This is one beautiful theater.  Parking and shopping are all integrated into the same complex.  We came here for a weekday matinee of Iris - the Cirque de Soleil show. Can't say that I was impressed with the show, but I couldn't get over the Kodak!

PS. a glass of wine & water bottle of water during intermission was $17! ouch

I wish I could select negative stars! Seats were completely obstructed, (received them as a gift)  wouldn't refund or give us credit for a different night, or even let us pay $200 more to upgrade to better seats1!!!!!  Pretty much anything that would be considered "good customer" was not allowed.

The box office manager was rude and only suggested that we buy new tickets. He was one of those guys who likes to tell you no because he can and wants to show you how much power he has in his little box office. He told us if we wanted to see the show we shouldn't have bought cheap tickets! I cant imagine a more rude to say to someone. Does the theater have any standards for customer service or their hiring policy???

Better off seeing a Cirque show at a different venue, 1, so you can see the show, 2, because I believe in supporting business's that appreciate yours.

My sister was in town visiting from the east coast, so we decided to take Hollywood by storm and what better way to do this than see a Cirque show about movies such as IRIS. I had never been inside such a historical Hollywood monument, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The only way I can think to describe the decor is "hollywood". Lush carpet, gorgeous chandeliers, antique molding and black and white celebrity photos. Very glam. I was impressed up until the show started and realized how horrible my seats really were.

The seats were in the 2nd Mezzanine right, Row C, seats 19-20. Sure, I didn't spend a gazillion dollars to get prime seats, but at no time during my order did I see any sort of message that mentioned these seats had a restricted view of the stage. If I had, I definitely would not have ordered them. I understand that being on the right side probably has some limited viewing of far stage right, but in addition to that, we had other obstacles that prevented us from fully enjoying the show.

First of all, there is some sort of metal ladder/grate that protrudes up from the front of the balcony.  My sister had the aisle seat and had to look through/around this for the entire show (especially if things were happening in the middle of the stage.) i'm sure this ladder/grate does serve a purpose for the theater and maybe it's even some sort of safety mechanism, however,  it definitely is an item that obstructs the audience view. The other issue we had is that the seats are not elevated enough. We had an issue seeing the stage if the people in front of us (or the people in front of them) moved their heads at all. We constantly had to keep moving our heads from side to side to adjust to the people in front of us who had to move their heads from side to side to adjust to the people in front of... you get the point. The other people around us had the same complaints. I was the only one who approached the usher with the matter and she just told me to talk to the box office when I leave. Thanks.

Overall, the show was amazing, but the seats didn't allow us to fully enjoy the experience. As I mentioned previously, the part that is most frustrating to me is that had the seats been marked as "obstructed view" (which I think they should be) I would have selected other seats. Beware patrons.

WOW!  This theater is nice.  We came for IRIS & it was awesome!

Loved that it was so easy to get too, very central, near the parking, and very organized.

Inside the theater was cool and intimate (I would have thought it would be bigger considering there are so many award shows here), there was a full bar at the end and elevators on the right side.  The seats were pretty comfortable.

Just watched Iris- Cirque du Soleil.  It was an amazing show, but I'll refrain from gushing over the show and stick to the venue.  As far as I know, not many cool events happen @ the Kodak, besides the Oscars.  But who am I kiddng? I'll never get invited to that :(

The exterior of the theater is majestic in its own modern and contemporary way.  This theater has only been in existence for only ~10 years, so there's not much history behind it in regards to old-time Hollywood.  You can go to Pantages for that, it's been around since the 30s.  However, as soon as I walked into the actual theater, I felt like I was transported into a by-gone era.  Part of it I'm sure was the installations and decor for that specific show, but I was just very impressed by the overall architecture and glamour of the theater.  Although we were high up in the mezzanine 1, I never felt like I was too far away from the action.  It was very cool being so close to the aerial trapeze artists!

Because I spend most of my time in LA, I forget how cool some the touristy spots in Hollywood can be.  The weird celebrity impersonators, the colorful personalities on the street, and cultural landmarks, it's fun to revisit it once in a while.

Almost a 5 star. But not. Yes this is the place where the award shows are held! Outside out that this mall only excites me for the mac store and that's pretty much eat. Great to go and grab a bite to eat and walk around. This is an outside mall. So don't go if it's raining. Be prepared to pay for parking   There is also a night club in this mall and this is also where TMZ does it's bus tour

Beautiful venue - seats have enough leg room my knees don't hit and you don't have to stand up for someone to get by, a huge plus. Also cup holders and bunches of exits to minimize the "lets just stand here looking at the ass in front of me" leaving line. Yes parking sucks here put on a CD.

Saw the new cirque du soleil show. Had incredible seats. Love the old timey feel.

Bar prices for a double vodka soda, $18. Yikes. Parking was also a bit pricey so I suggest trying to find a bus or train schedule (red line from union stop at hollywood/highland).

All in all an incredible experience and a gorgeous blast from the past.

Went to the Kodak Theatre for Iris by Cirque De Soleil. This theatre is just gorgeous and a very cozy, pleasant, beautiful venue. Each floor is equipped with a concession and with mini kiosks to buy merchandise. The restrooms are large & clean and there really wasn't any waiting during intermission. The staff members are all very helpful.  As for the seats, we sat in the top, top row so you can't really see the top of the theatre, but that was not crucial to seeing Iris. I was seated in the middle section of the top row, and I could see everything on stage. I didn't need binoculars at all. Seats are comfortable and not crowded at all.
Best thing? Well, not really Kodak-ish, but after our show there were $4 Bacon Dogs sold by street vendors right after our show got out at 10pm. Yummmmm....

Yes, it's an absolutely gorgeous theater: old style movie palace glamor, and small and intimate. Beautiful, beautiful.

I came to see IRIS, the Cirque du Soleil show, which was fantastic (as every Cirque show I've seen has been).  We took the Red Line to super-convenient Hollywood/Highland stop and walked down the block, completely bypassing all the parking and traffic issues. I suggest you do that, too, even if you have to drive to a Red Line station, where the parking will at least be free.

What I'm really writing this review for, however, is their amazing customer service.  We had our tickets via our subscription to Center Theater Group, which has all their shows except this one at the Ahmanson downtown. Because of dealing w/ the Ahmanson's and the Kodak's booking system, the tickets were issued late and for a date we could not attend, and exchanging them got super complicated.  We thought it was all taken care of until we presented our tickets at the door and they made the scanner come up with the big red X.  We were very politely and kindly directed to the box office.

There, it showed us as having cancelled this night's tickets (although the CTG had sent an email the night before verifying our tickets -- I was able to show them this on my phone).  They would have been entirely within their rights to say, "we're sorry: our booking shows these tickets are cancelled and we have no others in our system for you" because that would have been entirely true.  Instead, they took nearly half an hour of pushing and shoving through the electronic booking system to not only find us seats for the performance, but managed to get us seats very close to the ones we'd had originally (which were now occupied by someone else).  It was really not their problem to fix but they did it, didn't charge us extra for it, and trusted us not to try to come back and see a 2nd show for free on the original date we'd had tickets for.

Thank you, Kodak Theater staff -- you rescued a special evening from potential disaster, and my son was enchanted by his very first Cirque du Soleil performance.

Okay, let me start with what I didn't like:

    1. The popcorn was stale. I don't mean it sat for a bit after it was made. I mean it was like chewing gum it was so stale. This is a particularly egregious problem because

    2. The prices are, as expected, ridiculous for food and drink.

Now that I got that out of the way, OH MY GOD!!!

I've seen this place on television for years and it's definitely high on the list of places I never thought I'd go. But as new transplants to LA I guess there was potential. I guess. But thanks to my new best friend @Brittany B, the LA West CM, I was fortunate enough to attend the Cirque du Soleil spectacle here last night. But I won't get into that now.

This theatre is so steeped in history that just walking in is exciting. There are pillars with best picture winners and their years etched into them. There are huge pictures of past and present film luminaries. There's a room named after Mr. Eastman. Wherever I looked I was reminded of where I was and the magnitude of it. And that just made the whole thing more cool.

When we went in to the theatre itself - 6th row, thank you very much, Brittany you are my hero - it took our breath away. There's no other way to describe it. My fifteen year old actually gasped. The Cirque-specific decor notwithstanding (and it was grand as well) the place is enormous and stately with a glorious grace. The additions for the show made it whimsical but couldn't compete with the grande-damme elegance of the enormous hall.

Throughout the show (which I'm really resisting talking about until I review it separately) I kept wondering what famous tushies sat where I had mine parked. So I'll just ask - if you've sat in seat F 10 on the right side of the hall please message me. Our derrieres have shared a moment and I'd like to know who you are. Until I hear otherwise, I'm assuming one of those tushies belonged to Meryl Streep.

I came here to see the Cirque Du Soleil show Iris.  I'd never been to this theater before and really liked it.  After having seen it on television so many times, it was really cool to see it in person.

My seats were in the  orchestra pit and were great.  Since the other sections are vertically stacked, I would think that would help how well you could see a show from them.

The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is that I don't like the Hollywood/Highland complex too much.  It's nice, but such a hassle.  The parking is expensive (it's too hard to find street parking around here), the restaurants in the area are unremarkable and it's just too crowded with tourists.  I take out of town visitors here to show them around, but wouldn't come here with locals.

This place was really cool, and just the fact that I was sitting in the same area as celebrities was pretty interesting. This theater is beautiful, and I felt it was bigger than it seemed like on T.V. All of the lines were super fast, the seats were comfortable, I really have nothing to complain about.
The only thing I would say is that the prices for food are extremely expensive and when I decided to treat myself to a cotton candy or a  candy apple, they were out. Plus the popcorn was stale.
Other than the food issues everything was amazing.

Hollywood/Highland's chief cornerstone and the venue for this year's Cirque show, Iris.  CdS actually unloaded $100 million in order to prepare the stage for and theater for its newest homage to cinema styling and its performances.

Once one walks through the doors, immediately he's hit with an impact.

Historic, filled with class and every inch bespoke tradition, Oscar-memories, etc. We were quite fortunate to get 3rd row orchestra seats. From there, I could truly enjoy the digs, the magniificent ceilings, and the cavernous space, and the rich, plush seats and decor.

Stunts, as usual, impressive, but if you're not a newbie to Cirque, this show has less acrobatic genius and acts than usual. Rather, the emphais is on show, theatrics, color, movement, a homage to film.

The scant acts that did involve acrobatics, aerial, and strength, were quite impressive! Loved the Khazak bumblebee men and thetwo blonde strongmen who contorted through the air with Goliath strength. Breathtaking.

Music and costumes stunning and dramatic, as only CdS can always pull off. The final act drops loads of streamers from the rafters. My nephew squealed with glee!

PS contrary to another reviewer, found the popcorn quite reasonable and good...coffee couod gave been hotter though.

I've been to the Kodak Theater a few times and I am always impressed by its beauty and size.  It seems to go straight up to the balconies versus more back and up.  Many levels, that you can access from the main entrance and take elevators up to the upper mezzanine levels or down to the pit.

Getting out of a show is one large mass of people heading to the elevators.

Great, great venue. Really makes you feel like you're in a spectacular piece of old Hollywood, revitalized, refreshed and modernized.  It's still so new (relatively speaking, of course) but it's clear that this theatre will go down in history as one of the most fabulous and famous venues in the world.

That being said, I despise the Hollywood/Highland area in which the Kodak located. As you walk out of the theare and onto Hollywood Blvd, you'll find yourself in a trashy tourist trap hell hole. But this shouldn't diminish the greatness of the theatre itself.

And if you want to get the full experience, and really see the Kodak in all its glory, go see Cirque du Soleil's IRIS.  Link to my review here:

The Kodak Theater is SO L.A. I haven't been around the Hollywood/Highland area for over 10 years (mostly staying away because it is so touristy & crowded) but I have to say, there is a certain Los Angeles charm in the area. Walking towards the Kodak Theater, you feel this sense of Hollywood and its majestic-ness.

Apparently, they renovated the theater to make it more intimate for Cirque du Soleil's "Iris" (reducing seats). The theater is more modern & the architecture is lovely. Orchestra seating was the bomb! Lots and lots of bathrooms in the venue so even though there is a wait for the Ladies', it goes by super quick.

I would definitely METRO if you can. If you must drive, aim for after 6pm or on Sundays (so you don't have to worry about the 2 hr limit) because FREE street parking DOES exist (we parked on Hawthorn).

There is plenty to eat & to see in the surrounding areas, so I would definitely get there early so you can explore before your show. Nothin' like feeling like a tourist in my own home town!

Ohhhhhhhhh, and the bacon dog carts are out in full force after shows!

Since this was my first time at the venue, I picked some cheap seats in Mezzanine 2 Center for a preview of Cirque du Soleil's "Iris". I'm not a fan of the circus, ballet, or interpretive dance, so I'm not sure why I'd find the show entertaining and left at intermission. I'm not sure if this is normal policy, but they allowed food and drink inside the auditorium.

I liked the theater much more than the show. Even though I was in the cheap seats, the distance to the stage still felt close. Acoustically, sitting under an overhang is usually trouble, but the amplification was clean with a flat response (flat is good because it's even and not irregular).

The seats were average-sized and comfortable enough. It's nothing like the seats that movie multiplexes have used for the last 20 years, but completely better than the child-sized seats of the Disney Hall. There is some odd quirk with the seat numbers. My ticket was for seat 15 which was labeled as 18. Three seats over was another seat 18. In the row in front of me, there was a seat 21 which had lower number seats on either side. I have no idea why.

It doesn't seem decadent enough for the Oscar ceremony, especially the lobby which has a hotel banquet hall feel. Whatever the lobby lacks for looks, it makes up for in space with plenty of room for theatre goers to relax the eyes and ears during intermission.

I wouldn't hesitate to see a different performance at this venue.

The Kodak Theatre is quite nice.  I've seen it on television in the past for Academy Award shows.  Being there was interesting.  On the second floor, they had panels that had photos of several notable moments in Academy Award history and it was fun spending some time looking at those.

The seats are comfortable yet they seem to be a bit close.  Since there were many empty seats, I moved over one so the guy next to me and I could have more elbow room.  During intermission, they told us to move to a better seat if we wanted.  I was in the parterre section and moved to the second row of the parterre.  The overhang of the balcony would have detracted in the second act.

I enjoyed my visit to the Kodak.

From the moment you walk into the space, you've walked into a posh space. It is extremely inviting especially with the multitude of bars! Yes!

I love these transformative spaces where you enter into a space and you can feel the grandeur in the space. This theatre is enormous obviously because they can house the Cirque du Soleil IRIS show here. However, the seats seemed to be configured so that even you paid for an inexpensive seat, you are still getting a good view. I was fortunate to sit in the Parterre section which seem to be pretty close to the stage.

Parking was $10. I don't think this particular theater validates.

Recently came here for the new(er) Cirque Du Soleil show - IRIS.  Love Cirque shows and this is my 6th!!!  Show was good.  But, venue isn't best for this type of show.  In my experiences with other Cirque shows, there are no bad seats.  I feel the show does a good job in ensuring this.  However, for IRIS at the Kodak, I sat in Mezz 2, row H, center and constantly had to lean forward in my seat to see the show.  I imagine the rows behind me (on any of the levels) had it even worse.

It's a tourist trap, though LA locals should probably come here AT LEAST once in their lifetime. My cousin visiting from out-of-state and I came here during Oscar week. Arriving on a Wednesday afternoon, as security and staff began to put down the red carpet, overhang tents (as it looked like it'll rain this weekend), and an Oscar statue.

Parking here was relatively painless under the Kodak Theater (enter from Highland). As long as you get validation from one of the vendors, you get 4 hours of parking for $2, plenty of time to wander around, eat, buy meaningless souvenirs, take a tour, take pics with the costumed people (tips welcomed), and/or watch a film at the famous Chinese theater. Though I will say that the vendors within the Kodak are a bit on the high end of things. We went to Beard Papa for ours.

There's a decent view of the Hollywood sign here, though there are much better spots around the city for that.

It's fun if you embrace your inner tourist.

This theater now looks amazing after being remodeled for the Cirque de Soleil IRIS show. The entrance, when not decorated for special occasions, is actually quite unassuming and easy to miss. It is not as cool as what you saw on TV but still, it is quite an experience. The photos and posters showcased in the second floor was interesting to look at. The bar looks really cool but the food and drinks selection left much more to be desired.

Sitting in the Kodak Theater is a pretty unique experience given all of the history.  We came here for the Iris show.  Overall, parking was relatively easy, getting to our seats a piece of cake, and even though we were in the second tier of seating, the view of the stage was impressive.  The reader card said that Cirque had invested over $100 million in theater upgrades.  Hard to know what it was like before, but overall a pretty good theater to see events.  Plus, when you are done you can walk the Boulevard and see all the treasures Hollywood has to offer.

Went to see IRIS here and was disappointed with the theater itself. First off- they charged our credit card but lost our reservations. Not a good way to start. Then our seats were way up top and should be considered obstructed. I had to keep leaning my head down to avoid the covering that came down a little over the edge and blocked the stage. Then the "ushers" were rude and gave me attitude. I spoke to a manager about her and then they came back to talk to me and pulled me out during the show to talk about it. I repeatedly said I'm done talking about it and want to go back but they carried on and I had to walk away to get back to the show. My only impression about the people who work there were that they were thugs. I'm sorry but it was ridiculous.

I absolutely adore this place! The venue itself is gorgeous and sophisticated. The seats are bulky and comfortable. I more than enjoyed myself as I watched the ballerinas twirling around the grand stage. How I miss the Swan Lake...

The shopping area around the Kodak is actually pretty decent. You have your typical commercial places to dine at, and of course the Build a Bear, Louis Vuitton, Forever 21, American Eagle, Ed Hardy, and so forth.

This is a great place for tourist, and I just love the chaotic nature of this place. It's always full of crazy people, and you always have those random people dressed up as famous fictional characters (e.g. Spiderman, Jack Sparrow, Transformers, etc)
Even if your a local, if you're craving a crazy day, come here, grab a burger at 25 Degrees, and ice cream from Mashti Malones. It'll be a day well spent for sure!

If you're lucky you might happen to be there during a movie premiere and bump into Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, and Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda).

My review is of the TOUR of the Kodak theater.

A very nice tour of the venue where the Oscars are awarded. Our guide was excellent and was filled with interesting facts. Wish I could remember her name but she bears a striking resemblance to Liza Minelli (in a very good way). If you visit the Information Center at Hollywood Highland, they'll give you a $3-off coupon for the tour, making it $12.

Great place to take out-of-towners, especially on a hot day. They have tours every half-hour

You MUST do this tour if you're in LA. It's only 30 minutes, only $15, and if you're an Oscar fan...you'll love it. You get a ton of great, interesting info...and get to see a real Oscar, sit in the seats of the theater, the George Eastman VIP room, and see tons of other Oscars gear.

It was confusing to find this place as it's in a shopping mall and the theater appears to be closed since you cannot go in until your tour guide comes to get you. There's a box office on two levels, I believe. You can't take pics inside so if you're camera happy like me, (ie. Asian) you're going to have to abstain for half an hour.

For those who haven't been to LA and for those who love anything related to movies. come here! You won't regret it.

    HELLOOOOOOOOOOO up there!

Now I know what the nominee for best Foreign Short based on a previous published work feels like.

I let my friend buy the tickets for the Bill Maher live show and we wound up 2 rows under the On-Star satellite. I spent most of the time watching Bill rake the Right on the big screen projection instead of the stage. I kid you not he looked 3" tall.

This theater is beautiful and the acoustics are amazing even at 30,000 feet. However the lack of a hand rail on the upper Mez is inexcusable! The incline is so steep that even the best balanced soul should NOT look down while navigating to the assigned seats.

If you can afford the Orchestra, Parterre levels or better yet the VIP boxes then go for it!  If all they have is Mezzanine 1,2 or 3-infinity and beyond, stay home and watch the show on TV!

...and now the the nominees for best unsupported actress in a see through dress.......

A gorgeous theater with an incredible location and lots to check out in the surrounding areas. As an LA native I'm not taken by the "glam" of Hollywood and Highland in general, but I know that visitors to the area love it so if you're going to give a sightseeing tour I recommend you start here. First of all, the Kodak Theater is where they have the Oscars which is interesting enough as it is, and secondly the cost of parking is probably some of the best around.

I recently saw a musical here and the theater itself is wonderful: lots of legroom, not a bad seat in the house, and it's just lovely to look at.

The only major warning I want to spread the word about is this: DO NOT USE VALET IF YOU'RE SEEING A LARGE PERFORMANCE. I made this mistake and I ended up standing in line for a long time with my grandmother who isn't one for standing and waiting. When we finally paid up the service was fast, but there just aren't enough guys in the valet station to manage all the people who use valet on these nights. Use valet if you're shopping, just not on performance nights.

Avoid by all means! The most horrible experience in LA!
The place is super-crowded, elevators are not working well - we waited for one for 30 minutes and ended up taking stairs.
Also, they say everywhere that the parking is 2 dollars for 4 hours with validation. They lie! I validated it properly, system said it went through fine, but they asked 10 dollars for less than 3 hours. The guy at the visitor center was rude and impolite, not knowing anything at all. He could not help me to figure out how to get to where I needed and also he did not know how parking validation works and who could help me. We ended up paying 10 bucks for the parking although we've done validation and spent less than 3 hours.
Very messy place - smells like trash&tons of trash sitting around. Hard to find restrooms and quality food :-(
Very upset with this LA experience.

Modern posh - yep, that's just what it is.  Kodak doesn't have any of the old world charm that a lot of other theaters in LA do, nor does it have any history per se (unless you count the Oscars).  What it does have, however, is the smell of newness and modernity.  Situated in the Hollywood/Highland Center, it fits right in with the hip, young LA culture.

The seats inside the theater are comfortable (albeit a bit small - then again, what theater actually has big seats?), the bathrooms are expansive and clean, and the hallways are just pretty to look at.  It's nice that you can shop in the mall, eat the good foods, then go inside and catch a show.

Do I likes?  Of course!  If you have a chance to attend an event here, I highly recommend.  My last event was (and please don't laugh), High School Musical. Shut up.  I like HSM. Leave me alone.

I saw Ricky Gervais last night (who was pretty awesome, by the way) and the venue is nice.  The only thing I want to mention here is that the nose bleed seats (where I was) are continental seating, which means that there are no aisles between the seats.  So, if you arrive late and you are seat 43, you have to walk in front of each and every one of the 42 people seated to the right of your seat.  Don't even think of trying to hit the bathroom during the show either, or you'll be doing the walk of shame twice.  Arrive early, hold your bladder, and you'll be cool.

    ---
Lots of buses serve the area, but the sexiest transit option is the Red Line subway that lets you off right at Hollywood and Highland.

Home to the Oscars and various major events in Hollywood, the Kodak Theatre sits along Hollywood Boulevard and is an extension of the Hollywood and Highland Center of which I will be blogging about and have a post later this week.

When you walk in the complex you are surrounded by high end retail such as Louis Vuitton, Giordano etc... With the lighting and white and gold columns and adornments, this theatre center is truly a star studded event in it's own right. The stairs are actually covered in red velvet with tiny gold star lights. When you walk up the stairs you come to the entrance of the Kodak Theatre box office which you can see in the second photo. Above you is a huge white and gold dome. I did snap a photo of that but because of the lighting and time of day it did not come out well.

As you can see in the first photo this is a major tourist destination as well so all the Hollywood characters - superman, spiderman, Elvis etc... congregate outside this complex. It is really beautiful inside and something you should at least see while there. They also have tours of the inside of the theatre.

    Address: 6801 Hollywood Blvd.
    Directions: Hollywood and Highland

Nice venue, but it look better on TV during Oscar.
I was here for Kathy Griffin's show, but even in the 4th row, I still couldn't really see her facial expression. Stand up should be done in a small venue. =|
Anyhow. they have a nice bar area, tho it was a little small for the number of people who attended.

Parking, if you park at the Kodak lot, few of the in house snack/ pop vendor will give you few hours validation. I don't recall how many hours, it has been a awhile.

I have been to the Kodak Theater a couple times.  It is a beautiful place that reminds me of some of the old theaters in London.  I took my son to the Nutcracker and it was incredible (Rod Stewart was sitting in front of us which a little unexpected for this venue).
The George Eastman Room is pretty cool too.

Just got back from an Eddie Izzard show here.

Thou we totally sat in the nose bleeds it was a great show. The theater is gorgeous: sound and lighting design was excellent.

Parking is awesome (I got validation from the little coffee cart downstairs and only had to pay two bucks thou all I bought was gum...pretty sweet) thou the structure itself is a bit annoying with the amount of cones blocking off pathways , especially since so many other cars chose to ignore the directional arrows...
