The atmosphere and the dinner entertainment is the sole reason to go here... if you're going with people you don't really want to get stuck having a conversation with, go here!!! -the chef will keep them all busy. Not a "cheap" place, plan on spending 60 bucks between two people.
I think they skimp on the meats they put in the rice bowls etc.
The drinks are rather unique, but they are higher priced. The Mai Tai's pretty good. The mudslide is too.
Obviously since they cook it at your table, the wait is very minimal. Soup is included in the meal and its delivered immediately.. -

I love Japanese steakhouses, and was thus very eager to try Kobe. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed by just about everything: the food, the atmosphere, the staff.
The food was very subpar, especially for the $25 per plate price tag. I've had MUCH better at less expensive steakhouses.
While the inside of the restaurant is nice decorated, between the screaming children and the chefs banging their utensils on the metal grills I couldn't hear myself think.
Worst of all, in my opinion, was the staff. While our waitress was nice, our chef was horrible. He kept asking me why I wouldn't eat the shrimp he kept insisting on putting on my plate. When I finally told him I couldn't eat it because I'm Jewish (and thus keep kosher) he proceeded to make jokes about the holocaust!! I just stared at him in disbelief and decided right then that I would never be back.
Suffice it to say my business will be taken elsewhere. -

The food is cooked directly in front of you and is usually very tasty. I especially like the shrimp and scallops. The lobster is good too. The only real drawback is that it is a bit dark.
It is also kid friendly, however small children may be scared by the fire from the onion volcano. -

Basically a Benihana's. The entertainment depends on the chef. They can be exciting/fun or bored of their job. The food is decent. Oishi is very similar.

Kobe Steakhouse is a tiny chain (they have four locations across the Midwest- 2 in STL) which specializes in Tappanyaki-style dining or as people say in the Midwest, "One of those place where the guy cooks at your table." Come on, people, learn some new vocabulary. Kobe Steakhouse is a good place for Tappanyaki, especially if you've never tried it before (the staff kind of slow-pitches for the Midwest crowd). Kobe is definitely a steakhouse (no vegetarian dishes here) and serves little in the way of "the green stuff" as a side either. The protein dishes are good, though, so I suppose it's a trade off. I really like to split the Shogun when I come here b/c you get the best of everything (Filet Mignon, lobster, and shrimp or scallops) and there's plenty to share. Tappanyaki is expensive no matter where you go, but Kobe actually seems a little cheaper than some other places I've been.

I think they need more places out here like this. But then again can Missouri handle that? I love eating here and I've been to places like this but what makes this unique was I was with my parents when I went so got to treasure them memories.
