Like many other reviewers, I had no idea that Ko Company had dry cleaning/alteration services.  I've had both alterations and dry cleaning done at Ko Company, and the service has been great on both occasions.  Additionally, the prices are very reasonable, and Mrs. Ko is a wonderfully pleasant and nice woman.

I'm not sure why they have toys in the shop as well--indeed, I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone purchase any of the toys.  But perhaps I'll run into some situation at some point where I have limited time where I have to drop off dry cleaning and pick up a baby shower gift at the same time, making Ko Company that much more awesome?

Ko Company is a mom and pop one-stop shop for all your dry cleaning and tailoring needs.  If you haven't tried them out yet, you're missing:
- friendly service with a smile every time you go in from Mrs. Ko herself
- unbeatable prices - just $18 for an original hem on designer jeans; but the best part is:
- efficiency AND convenience!  The Ko's are so good at what they do that when you're tailoring pants, you don't have to stay there to try them on and go through the trouble of measuring the pants while wearing them.  You can just bring in a pair of your fave jeans whose length you desire, and they'll just use that pair of pants/jeans/whatever it is as a model.  It's FABULOUS and saves so much time.

This is my go-to place for drycleaning/tailoring - a place where I know I'll be taken care of!

I started using the services of Ko Company a couple months ago as a recent North Beach resident, and I have been extremely pleased. Mrs. Ko has an uncanny gift for remembering names. (Why can't I have that gift???) She remembers me, and my boyfriend, and did so after we'd been in only once. She only accepts cash, and one time I forgot and was picking up a big order - and she let me take my clothes home and come back to pay later after I got cash. Talk about customer service! Oh, and my clothes are all super clean. Even my ridiculously white coat. Thanks Mrs. Ko!

The Ko family has been arund for years and they have many regulars, like myself, who won't go anywhere else.
Karen is the best and frequently goes WAY out of her way to help you!
Ken is a professionally trained tailor, whose work is always done right.
I can't imagine where else to go.

This place was amazing. I go to school in the Peninsula, but was in San Francisco for a vacation with my family; I had just received two pairs of jeans in the mail and I wanted to get them tailored before I got back from vacation. I explained my situation to Kim and she told me she could get me my clothes back just in time for when I was leaving! She was extremely friendly and made sure that the job she did was great (which it was).

I hope to move to the City after I graduate, and this place will definitely be in my address book no matter what district I live in.

Of all the cities I have lived in, this is head and shoulders above any dry clean business that I have ever frequented. I would recommend coming here even if you live miles away.  You are not just another dollar here. The owners remember your name, your order and stay a bit late to take care of you. On top of that, there is humor and a fun toy store.  You gotta get some clothes dirty so that you have an excuse to check out this place!

Aww, I think it's kind of sweet that Ko Company has such a vast collection of stuffed animals!  I actually found a fantastic prop for my Halloween costume right here at this little tailoring store.  This year my boyfriend and I are going as Mario and the Princess, so when I saw a cute little stuffed Nintendo-Super Mario Bros. mushroom in the window, I thought "perfect!"

And the owner, Karen, really is a sweetheart.  She got such a kick out of the reason behind my purchase, and I definitely plan on coming back to share a picture sometime after the holiday.

I haven't had a need for any tailoring lately, but when I do I was probably give Karen a try at Ko Company.

I've been a North Beach regular for 7 years.  I have driven by this place hundreds of times and never knew it was a functioning dry cleaners.  I stopped by today with sabrina and two friends.  They went absolutely ape-shit over the tiny erasers that are apparently the rage.  There were other stuffed animals and small toys - a very diverse menagerie.  The lady (who knew the other family I was with) said she loves the smiles she gets from the children that pass her store.  She was very nice and I am always in need of alterations and tailoring so I've found a new place to try.  Four stars for the wonderfully sweet lady (you can't get service like that anywhere anymore) and one star for the Quasimodo pencils I spied on one of the shelves )(ok another star for those erasers!  I bought one that was in the shape of a ramen bowl!)

i've literally walked by ko company for uh... 1.5 years thinking it was a toy store (i've only looked into the window and didn't bother lifting my head and reading the sign! oy)! so when i was looking for a fabulous tailor in my neighborhood, i yelped and found the ko family.

i must say they are the sweetest family and having ko company in my neighborhood just makes me smile. karen is the sweetest and ken (it's not his legal name but trust me... he prefers it) has mad tailoring skillz. i wanted to make sure i was in good hands and brought a pair of jeans in for an original hem and it came back beau-ti-full! i even tested ken by turning a nylon jumper into a dress... A+ skills and attention to detail. now i trust karen and ken with my entire closet and i know it'll come back perfectly dry-cleaned and perfectly fitted.  they're so customer-oriented they'll even rush a job if you really need it and if you ask nicely of course.

try them... they are the best!

Like many others I didn't realize this was a dry cleaning and tailoring shop at first glace.  What hooked me was a cuddly brown Bactrian Camel plush toy named Camela sitting in the window!!!  Inside the store I found an eclectic mix of fluffy Gund friends, really old Hunchback of Notre Dame pencils, and metal cars.  After reading all the positive reviews for their tailoring work I'm tempted to bring my wool coat here for some alterations...and if that Camel is still there I'm definitely taking him with me!

My favorite laundry and alteration store, ran by a sweet hardworking couple, Karen and her husband the taylor.  I trust them for alterations of my euro designer jeans, their work is of the guilded artisan quality where attention to detail appears in the outcome of their work.  Recently she ensured that my snow-white down coat was dry cleaned back to its original color, previously tainted by makeup smears and stains.

For emergency alterations, they would gladly turnaround and deliver in a day or two.  They have demonstrated their willingness to go the extra mile in a few occassions.  Once, for my sister who lives in Germany, as well as the occassional panic whenever I have a hot date and an emergency need for a hot outfit to perfectly fit.

I have been a faithful client for years and years now, even if I live in SOMA .. it's always a good excuse to drive to North Beach for a rich double latte at Greco's and exchange a few laughs with Karen.

The lovely lady who works here is the best. She cracks jokes, remembers my name, and gets great work done. Not to mention her hot pink lipstick and 80s hair which is just adorable.

Speaking solely on the tailoring...
5 stars for the windbreaker my dog ate the sleeve off of that she fixed to look normal, and considering the nylon fabric this was rad.

5 stars for the new zipper she put on my hoodie after my dog ate that.

5 stars for patching the pocket of my boyfriends jeans that my dog ate.

5 stars for her comment that I need to put my clothes up higher and that she hoped my dog didn't eat anything else because while it's good for her, it's not so good for me!

"Diamond in the Forest"...  Many times the true "gems" in a community aren't known except by the locals....
Ko Company is one of those gems.  I had just discovered this five star alterations and dry cleaner location only through my hair stylist.  She had mentioned that I should go to Ko Company if I had some very expensive clothing that I wanted altered since the owner of Ko Company use to be a very well known and sought out excellent tailor in Asia many years ago.  I just recently took her advice and was extremely impressed and grateful for the excellent tailoring that Ko Company had done on my Armani suit.  My Armani suit (which I had for many years ) had previously been altered incorrectly (more like "butchered") by a tailor which caused it to not fit right at all and I had lost all hope in being able to wear this suit again.  To replace this suit would have cost me $2,000+ if I could even find the same style and color.... I brought in my Armani suit to Ko Company and Karen  was able to quickly diagnose the problem.  Her attention and eye for details in tailoring and clothing is extremely impressive...  Karen's husband was able to make major alterations (ie. even had to add material) and my Armani suit looked as good as new and fit perfectly.  Not only is their tailoring excellent, I would highly recommend their dry cleaning.  I actually drive from San Mateo to bring in my alterations and dry cleaning to Ko Company because of their quality work and services.  Ko Company is truly a five star hidden gem in Chinatown.... Don't be deceived by their outside appearance of stuffed animals in the window display......

This is perhaps one of the wierdest places in the city. An unholy mix of dry cleaning and cheap toy store. and  It looks like a cemetery for Disney plush toys and figurines leftover from the 80's. But, in fact, they do some dry cleaning in there. The smelly, chemical-ridden kind of questionable cleanliness. But it's a good place to pick up a circa 1990 Beauty and the Beast plush toy. WTF??

I've been bringing my shirts (and occasional mending and tailoring jobs) to Karen for 5 years.  Karen has always done a great job with friendly service.  In 5 years of weekly service, only once did I think there was a mistake (one of my shirts lost).  Both Karen and I got emotional about it (we're perfectionists), but it was my mistake!  (The shirt was in my closet.)  I learned my lesson--Karen doesn't make mistakes.  Recommended.

I had a fantastic experience getting three even gowns altered with Ko Company!  One dress was my wedding dress, with beading.  I had to take it in, and the original dress had beading over all the seams. After alteration, it looked great! You couldn't even tell it was altered. The two other dresses came out perfectly as well.  Alterations were fast and affordable, and with a smile! I'd trust them with my wedding dress again!

I recently had a pair of jeans hemmed and the lining of a coat redone - excellent marks on both at a fair price.
