Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn
4 reviews for Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn
I stayed here for the night during my visit at Big Bear. After a long and fun day snowboarding all I wanted to do was relax when I got back to my room at the Knickerbocker Mansion.
When I went back the staff made a fresh batch of apple cider and a good variety of hors d'oeuvres. I had them sent the drink and food up to my room and enjoyed it during a nice hot bubble bath. I felt like a spoiled kitten. Meow! ~__~
The cider and hors d'oeuvres was just as delicious as my bath. The breakfast they served the very next morning was just as delicious and comforting.
My bedroom was small but it was very warm and cozy. It had a fireplace and it was quite charming. The bathroom was immaculate, too.
I'd be more than happy to come back here during my next snowboarding trip. The staff was very warm, friendly and accomodating, the food was delicious and my bedroom was clean, warm and cozy. Next time, I'll take pictures!

Hubby and I came here when we were just engaged (back in winter 2005), and it was so sweet and quaint. The owners, two very nice guys, welcomed us in and gave us the full tour. We came maybe 15 minutes after the check-in/closing time (around 9 PM) due to unaccounted for traffic detours, but one of the guys was totally cool about it, and said he was only concerned that we had gotten lost.
I've put up some photos of the outside and of our room here, but to describe the rooms- they all have some sort of theme. Ours was the "snow ski" theme, with photos of skiiers and old-fashioned skis mounted on the wall. The bed frame was beautiful and provoked thoughts of a quaint little cabin during a snowstorm. Though the room was tiny (and so was the bed), it was nice because it felt so cosy- there was also a fire place where you could have a fire (they go over safety precautions with you when you're touring around).
One downside about having an old building: the walls are pretty thin. We could hear our neighbours...well, going at it...multiple times throughout our stay and also, their toilet flushing occasionally. It wasn't that bad, though, so don't be deterred. During our stay, as well, they were doing construction next door, so the view from the breakfast dining room wasn't AS pretty, but honestly, it didn't matter.
The next morning, the partner of the guy who welcomed us the night before cooked a tasty and rather hearty breakfast. Supposedly, he is a certified chef (I believe so?), and I would say that it shows! :) They are also able to accommodate vegetarians with their meals (but I'm guessing strict vegans are probably out of luck), which was helpful for me. :)
Big Bear, as a whole, is a very quaint and lovely town. We got a little bit of snow, and had a nice time wandering the streets (you can walk around to different shops easily from the Knickerbocker Mansion). Things are pretty costly, but I'm pretty sure it's because their economy thrives mostly on tourism and town visitors. While there, we saw a movie at their one movie theatre in town, had our very first massages, ate at different restaurants, and did a LOT of walking, as mentioned above. :)
Anyway, I most certainly recommend The Knickerbocker for a homey, romantic, and warm stay. :D

Oh before I met a friend who had a cabin up in Big Bear, this would be the place to stay! It is within walking distance to the village and such a beautiful log cabin! The rooms are individually decorated with quaint country charm and the breakfast was cooked delicously.
I went to a wedding here once many years ago and it was so beautiful. If you would like a romantic weekend away, I highly recommend this place!! You will not be disappointed!

We didn't stay here but we did have dinner on Saturday night at the Bistro at the Mansion. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was cozy. If you're looking for a great meal up in Big Bear you should make a point to check this place out. Friday nights are for comfort food which sounded kinda good, too.
We looked at one of the rooms and it seemed nice as well, so it's certainly worth considering an overnight stay here!
