Of all the wineries we visited, this was my least favorite. In all fairness, their wines are at a far more budget-friendly price point.

The past 2 years we have visited friends in Richland and done some "speed tasting" (4 adults, 2 toddlers - trading off watching the kiddos while trying to taste some wine - in the late morning to get home before nap time)...I don't recommend this for the novice!!
Besides Kiona, I've visited Tagaris, Bookwalter, Seth Ryan (run away, fast!) and Fidelitas.
Kiona is BY FAR my favorite. They have the largest selection, so as far as pleasing a variety of people, they pretty much have it all covered.
Also, I understand this tasting room is new, and it is really nice. They had some interesting art (our friend bought a piece). I wish it would have been a little less windy and we would have had a little more time because they had some great outdoor seating and some Beechers cheese for sale inside.
The short of it, we bought a mixed case, the prices were reasonable, I enjoyed nearly the full range of their offerings (most other places I have 1 or 2 favorites at most) & the experience was helpful, educational, casual & comfortable. Go Kiona!Listed in: I'm a wine-o

We stopped by here on the way out of town because we heard the people at Kiona (k-eye-oh-na) are Cougs. The place is gorgeous. The tasting room is open and sunlight filled. I might be biased though since a friend of mine designed it. But it really is friendly and inviting. It's perched up on a hill and looks out over vineyards. Next time I'll be prepared to sit out on the patio and enjoy the view to it's fullest extent.
The wine is good too! The tasting is free (always a bonus) and we tasted at least 8 to 10 wines. The variety of wines is impressive, we tried chardonnay, chenin blanc, riesling, lemberger, syrah, merlot, cab, zinfandel and a rose. We actually liked them so much we walked out with a case of wine. Our favorites were the Estate Chardonnay, the dry riesling, sangiovese and Estate Zinfandel. In fact I'm drinking the sangiovese right now! Prices are reasonable for the quality.
BONUS: they sell little cardboard coolers that come with an ice pack, which is great for someone likes me who ALWAYS forgets to pack a cooler and then is tormented about leaving wine in a hot car all day. -

Our most recent visit was magical. Our server at the bar was an old guy who charmed us with jokes and stories. Kiona has nice wines, some are a bit expensive but they are certainly not the worst offender in that department. They also sell fine cheese, and have a large shaded deck overlooking the vineyards. So we sat out and had a picnic. I'm not a fan of the modern building but the view is lovely!

A recent remodel has made quite the difference to this winery. What used to be a crowded tasting room experience is now an open, peaceful, and enjoyable tasting. They have a great view from their new and very modern building. They have local art on the walls which is for sale. It is good art. Also, their wine. Ha! Their wine is amazing! They have a great selection and friendly staff. Their late harvest Gevurts. is so amazing! I purchased a bottle of Chenin Blanc the last time I was there. Also, very good. Don't pass this place by! It is worth a good visit or two. :)

I love this. In the summer with the dry SE Washington heat Sitting on their porch with a glass of wine looking out over the vineyard is the best. I frequently buy there wine and vistit hem as much as I can, plus everyone is so nice there.

Kiona Winery offers so many wines, it will make your head spin. At the time we decided to try just the reds, but they have a large variety of whites, reds and sweet wines. They have a fairly large and decorative tasting room, it reminded me a bit of an art gallery because they had artwork, jewelry and trinkets for sale. They have tables with chairs for relaxing, couches in front of a fireplace, a lovely patio area and huge windows. When we were there, we tried the Lemberger, Vivacious Vicky, Cab-merlot, Estate Merlot, Estate Cab Sauv, Estate Syrah, Estate Zinfandel and Big Kiona Zinfandel. I thought their Estate Merlot was one of the best in the lot. So flavorful! Oh, then I tried the Estate Zinfandel and it was so fruity AND smooth. We were told that it was better decantered for 2 hours, but it was actually quite good out of the bottle after a bit of swirling. Kiona is a must-see if you are in the Red Mountain area.
