11 reviews for Kings Pharmacy
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I cannot walk out of Kings Pharmacy without spending at least $40. That's not because their stuff is $$$, it's because they carry so much that I just keep buying and buying and buying stuff I don't need. I get prescriptions, sweet hair products, dog toys, toilet paper, a new toothbrush, some sponges, and a few cards and all of the sudden I'm at the register buying stuffed animals, coloring books and chewing gum too. Who does this stuff? The answer is me. And I love it.
It's overrpiced but easy to get too.
Now that Duane Reade just opened on Wythe, that is definitely a better stop now, so we'll see.
Kings is where customer service goes to die.
It's fine if you need an obscure hair gel and love cool '80s music, but if you want to get an actual prescription filled, it's a nightmare. I have been coming here for years because it's the closest pharmacy open. If I had a choice I'd switch in a nanosecond.
I've called in refills and they almost NEVER have it ready--even days later! They actually gave me the WRONG rx once, and I had to correct them. They switch rx brands constantly, so I am always checking on them via Pill Identifier.
I'd almost prefer a nasty Duane Greed. (I said almost.)
The selection at Kings Pharmacy definitely outweighs the fact that they are expensive. I'd rather stop here (on my way home from work) than travel to Manhattan to go to a super packed chain drugstore.
I have this habit of needing to buy cosmetics or lotions or body wash or face cream the moment I am paid. Somehow I have convinced myself that with each paycheck I will become better looking. This has yet to happen, but now I find myself with an array of cleansing, hair, skin and cosmetic products! They have everything you could want, from brand names (Olay, Neutrogena, etc) to organic and all natural products. I guess they are catering to the area with the latter, but who doesn't like options?
For vitamin whores such as myself, they have a 2 for 1 deal on all their supplements. Go! Go!
Overpriced, Poor customer service.
I've been a customer for 3 years due to lack of competition on Bedford. I recently bought a product here that said "24 pack" and, not needing it immediately, opened it a few days later to find that there were only 12.
By this time my receipt was long gone, but the box has a sticker that clearly says "Kings Pharmacy" on it. Lo and behold, they would not exchange it without a receipt.
Do not shop here, and if you must, CHECK YOUR PACKAGES TO BE SURE THAT YOU GET EVERYTHING THAT YOU PAID FOR. I won't be going back.
This place saves me a trip into the city... I mean, it's the weekend... I've come down with a cold... I need some medicine... and maybe some moisturizer and q-tips... Thank god this place is here or I'd have to haul it to Duane Reade in Manhattan... feeling like crap and spreading my germs all around the subway for you to catch.
They have a great selection... including organic products... hell, they even have a hello kitty section.
Best neighborhood pharmacy I've seen. Reasonable prices on everything, with great deals on vitamins (if you're into that sort of thing). Its nice to see a great independent pharmacy thriving. Keep it up, Kings.
Let's weigh the pro's and con's of Kings.
Pro's:
1.Family run
2. They sell all the stuff you can get in Duane Reade but go back to reason #1 for why to shop here.
3. They also sell stuff you can not get at Duane Reade or Rite Aid, like Dr. Bronner's Magic Peppermint soap (mmmmmm), Tom's toothpaste, fancy pants shampoo, greeting cards that aren't too dorky, toys and Stickers!!!
4. And it's near my house.
Con's:
1. Some of the staff is less than helpful and moves in another, almost going back in time, realm of motion.
But only some (underline's twice for emphasis) of the staff are in this slow motion outer world. And in any case, King's beat the other guy's hands down.
On the way home if you live south of the Bedford, L Stop, and they don't have every brand or the the best deals, but when you need it, it's there. I just found out that they deliver - always a good thing.
The pharmacists are fast and helpful. They've even gone out of their way to help me out and gave me good advice when my insurance company was giving me a hard time about covering certain medications. There's always someone available to talk to either in person or on the phone. Never waited more than 20 minutes for a prescription to be filled in the 4 years that I've been going there.
Kings Pharmacy has everything you need from diapers, to fans, make-up, high end lotion and cleanign material. More of CVS then say a small local drugstore, Kings has reasonable prices and an awesome selection. Run by a family who lives in Queen, the staff is always friendly and the pharmacist patient and caring. Also, the Kings soundtrack is totally 80s all the time, so while you're looking for the perfect shaving cream, you can sing along to Madonna's "Like A Virgin" or Duran Duran's, "Rio."
