I was in the area looking for some burgers and King's had the best reviews so I decided to try it and see what the Yelper taste is like.

As most people have said, the place looks run down. As I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the multicultural staff. I thought it was neat to see such a diverse staff in a small place like this. The staff that I talked to were really nice and had smiles.

I ordered the Pastrami burger and sushi [cant remember which rolls I had :( ]. The pastrami burger was delicious. It had a generous amount of pastrami with an ok size beef patty and the veggies tasted fresh. The bun was thin which I believe was great because a thick bun would make this burger hard to eat due to its size...besides you get a better taste of the meat with less bun!!.

The sushi was good as other Yelpers have said.  For the price, the fish tasted fresh and they were prepared just right in my opinion. I liked the fact that they didnt pour teriyaki sauce all over the sushi, perhaps to mask the flavor of not so fresh fish. The flavors were well balanced and tasted really really good.

3 stars. Tried the bacon cheeseburger, which was pretty tasty. Yes, it's shredded lettuce they use on the burger, but worked just fine for me. The cheese almost got lost. For less than $7, it comes with a drink and choice of fries or salad. The salad was crispy and had lettuce, tomato, cucumber, raisins, and some sliced, toasted almonds. Not bad. You pick the dressing.

They also have sushi and rolls, but were closer to $10.

The restaurant is well-lit (visited during lunch) and appeared clean.  Credit cards accepted. The service was slow and impersonal.

Verdict: One more option to try for burgers in the CSUN vicinity that isn't a franchise. I like that they give you a choice between fries or salad with the hamburger combbo meal. Speed and service were low points. Food and overall, "A-OK."

I've been putting off writing this review for a while. I guess because this place really didn't push me either negatively or positively. It was kinda just like okay...a burger and okay some fries...and nothing stood out at all.

My boyfriend used to eat here when he went to CSUN, so I guess he was on some kind of Valley nostalgia trip this weekend, we went all ovey the damn San Fernando, stopping here for lunch.

We waited 15 minutes for the food to come to our table, which was kind of ridiculous it was hardly busy. They serve Japanese food, and someone I know says the gyro is pretty good. The burger is boring, and the fries too. My boyfriends Black Jack Burger tasted like it had been dipped in chili, and not good chili.

Definitely not some place I would ever make a special trip to.

I'd like the sushi sampler with a side of fried zucchini and a burger for the boy please!

I am always down for sushi and the boyfriend will eat a burger any day... so what's better than King's where we can have both!

The quality of sushi here is top notch! although their rolls are on the smaller side and one roll will not fill you like other sushi places may it gives you more room in your tummy to try more of their yummy sushi!!

Their fried zucchini with their ranch is bomb!

I love this place but I just don't come here enough.. don't ask me why but it always tends to slip my mind.

TRY IT!

I have been going to this place ever since I was at CSUN and the number E is to die "king's special".  You can't go wrong with pastrami on top of a cheeseburger with the ranch on the side, getting hungry just talking about it.  They started to sell sushi too and that is great and cheap as well.  Only thing missing is a way to get the pastrami into the sushi .

This place rules. THEY HAVE SUSHI. AND IT'S REALLY GOOD!

I had a burger once, the avocado cheeseburger. It wasn't bad, but as a rule I don't eat burgers that get served with shredded lettuce. Sorry, it's just a thing. I mostly just come here with my friends for the sushi while they get their burgers. Which they really enjoy, by the way.

I absolutely love this place. Everytime I go there I get combo E: Kings Special. It's pastrami / burger, and it's to die for. My friends are all sushi freaks, and they say it has great sushi. I don't like sushi, so I haven't had it. But, definitely go there!

Went there for sushi despite on yelp's high rating, but they don't offer sushi on Monday, so ordered something else.  I ordered phili cheese steak, my bf and his friend ordered Hawaiian Burger.  PCS came out with a big chunk of unmelted cheese on the top of steak (if thats their special way of doing it?).  For over 5 dollar, I could have a bigger and juicier PCS in PCC food court.  The burgers were ok according to my bf and his friend, however could be better.  The fries came out lukewarm....
However, will go back to only try their sushi.

Absolutely love this place. I've been coming here for years for really good burgers... but now they have sushi...

The sushi here is some of the best I've ever had. Their rolls are really creative and delicious. I use to go to Midori's for all you can eat... but for less money and more innovative and tasty selections.. i come here.

For burgers I recommend the Teriyaki Beef Sandwich (with Avocado)

For sushi I recommend Spicy Tuna wrapped in Albacore Apple Mustard sauce; Samon Mango Salsa Roll; they use to make a Sashimi Salad with Apple Mustard sauce.. i use to order that all the time. loved it.

NOTE: Commentary is regarding the Japanese food menu.  I have not yet eaten breakfast or burgers here.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend at work, who had never been, but only heard about it by word of mouth.  I was expecting it to be good, but I was in for a big surprise.

This is among the best sushi and Japanese food in the Los Angeles area.  No joke.  I eat a lot of Japanese food in a year, and have tried several dozen places in Los Angeles over the years.  I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to saying "best" about my food choices.  This is the best.  Truly five-star sushi.

I ordered the Rock Shrimp Tempura and a Spicy Tuna Roll, which came with a Japanese salad and miso soup.  I was impressed from the start.  The miso was not overly-sodium, as most of them are.  That got me hooked right off the bat.  Then came the spicy tuna roll.  I get this at every sushi place, and it is one of the ways I can judge - by the quality and comparison of this favorite roll.  Theirs was literally the best one I've ever had in Los Angeles.  Then came the rock shrimp tempura and the salad.  I was not expecting much here, as it is pretty standard fare, and there is generally not much variation in tempura.  I was surprised by the delightful sauce the chef puts over this dish, and by the incredibly made sesame dressing on the salad.  Once again, this was the best tempura I've ever had in Los Angeles.

I have only one negative thing to say in this review.  I tried to get the location over the phone, and whomever answered my call had such a thick accent (not Japanese - something else) that I could not even understand when they SPELLED the nearest cross street.  Do NOT attempt a phone order if you speak English.  Wow.  Places like that always blow my mind.  Get a native English speaker to answer your damn phones, LA businesses!  Sheesh.

Also of note, this is a burger joint.  It has counter-service, not waited tables.  The tables are old.  The decor says "hole in the wall burger joint."  If you're looking for a place with incredible atmosphere, you will not find it here.  If you're like me, and it is more about the food than the decor or the waited tables, then this is the top Japanese in Los Angeles.  If you want tip-top sushi with atmosphere and waited tables, try Asakuma.  See my review.

I'll be coming back here again and again.  Now my number one choice in the LA area for sushi and Japanese.  Brilliant!

I'm always knd of weary of places that serves different types of food...burgers, japanese, mexican?

Well I opted for the hawaiian chicken burger since the place was called King's Burgers. Unfortunately, the sushi was the better bet. The lettuce, tomato, and bun had a funky taste. The pineapple and chicken were delicious. The orange bang was really yummy. Stole a spicy tuna roll from a coworker and that was really good. I'll have to come back sometime just for the sushi. well...if i'm ever in the area...

LOL. This place cracks me UP. I went with my boyfriend's cousin to CSNorthridge for her counselors appointment, and we got hungry so my bf went on yelp and this place got the most and best ratings... this place looks like a ghetto burger joint, but they serve SUSHI IN HERE! LOL.
Their sushi isn't that bad either... my bf ate everything he ordered happily... including the White Tuna Seared Jalapeno, salmon roll, and Spicy Tuna on Crispy rice. His cousin, ordered a Club Sandwhich with Fries and Ranch and it was amazing! I loved it.
I have to visit her more often in Northridge so we can try out the other items on their menu... Oh, all this came out to be about $40 w/tip (even though I dont think the tip was necessary cuz it's not that type of joint... but we tipped anyways).

We were driving along Devonshire looking for a place to eat sushi using my phone as a guide. When I saw King's Burger on the list I thought, "Why would this burger joint serve sushi?" The fact that it had 70+ Yelp reviews got our attention so we decided to try it. We're glad we did.

A place that serves burgers, burritos, gyros, horchata, boba, and sushi? Why isn't there a place like this in the Bay Area? Sure the exterior looks a bit nasty but none of that matters when you look at their menu and taste their food. I can see why CSUN students come here. The King's Special pastrami burger rivals the one I enjoy at the Hat, and caused a serious food coma. We also had cheese fries with their very own, homemade ranch sauce which was a bit tart but good. The sushi is surprisingly fresh, legit, and DELICIOUS!!! We tried the truffle battered eel and King's special roll. This isn't sushi of the all-you-can-eat buffet variety, this is some serious high-end sushi for a fraction of the price! Upon leaving, the chef asked us to make sure the sushi was alright, which shows he cares about quality.

The eclectic selection of food is great especially when you have those days when you're craving something but you don't know what, or if you and your friends can't agree on what to eat. I will be coming back to try the rest of their selection. I wanna try their gyros, horchata, boba, and even more sushi. Too bad they aren't open late.

I'm obligated to knock down a star because of the two one-person bathrooms. For a place that serves a variety of different foods destined to make your stomach angry, a one-person bathroom won't cut it, especially when the toilet's clogged, which it was on our first visit. You have been warned.

I've been a Kings fan for many years and recall feeling happy when the spot switched from a chain ( was it Carl's?). Is it the best greasy food in town? Maybe not, but it is a local run and operated location with a diverse menu to match the Northridge habitat.

We live a little farther away now but we were looking for a family friendly option last night and my husband reminded me they had sushi there now. He went and scouted said suushi one day and found it very respectable. Anyway.... it was amazing to see the tidy and creative sushi bar set up at the end. And along with our burgers and fries came to #35, we also got cute dishes with some good lookin and tasting sushi. My kids ate more sushi than fries and next time I'll cut back on the "other stuff" side of the meal. We went over to Lotus for dessert and it was awesome.

I LOVEEEEEE their avocado cheese burger. My high school teacher introduced me to this place. He use to order food from here for us when we had class parties! Now I go to CSUN and come here for lunch every now and then! Yes, some of the stuff are overrated, but a lot of their burgers and BLT are amazingly delicious! I love the secret sauce they use in the burgers and the onion rings are pretty good too!

I tried one of Chef Young Cha's creations, the King's Special Roll.  It consisted of a imitation crab and avocado roll, fried, covered with fried lobster and fish roe, drizzled with sauce.  Oh my goodness.  The quality of the sushi here was top-notch.  If I closed my eyes, I could imagine myself in at an expensive sushi restaurant on Sunset Blvd with dim lighting and minimalistic furniture and, of course, an eye-popping bill to top it off.  But instead, I was at a burger joint surrounded by families and everyday people on their lunch breaks and best of all, I just spent around $9 for this roll that completely filled me (and put me in a food coma for a few hours afterwards...)

place is pretty good burgers. fries are tasty too. good food all around. My favorites are the kings special, blackjack burger,a dn chicken burger .  i hear the sushi is well worth it too.

i recommend calling ahead cuz it takes forever.  its an old school restaurant, they could really use a face lift and get some new booths.

prices are decent. a combo at carls jr. costs like 7-8 bucks, so its comparable but king;s has that authetic feel to it.

4 stars only because I won't live long if I eat here too many times. King Burger will eventually give you a heart attack, but that describes just how awesome this place is. The King's special is usually a popular choice and this gives you beef topped with pastrami in between two paper thin buns. Although that's probably my eyes playing tricks on me because there's so much meat in between the bun, it's throwing you off. I usually prefer not to have any lettuce on my burgers, but King's is the only place that will replace your lettuce with MORE pastrami.

Forget working this off after eating it. This burger will sit in your stomach for life. Be prepared before eating here. Spend time with loved ones or finish that novel that you always wanted to write.

Burger #121: Not The King Burger

When I first moved to LA, there was no yelp, city search didn't offer much, and I had to rely completely on word of mouth to hunt my burgers. One of my first LA friends took me to King Burger with the promise of a worthy burger, how it was over 5 years ago and how it was a few days ago is the same, fail.

Like 90% of LA burger joints, Kings offers burgers, pastrami, and Mexican food. But unlike 99.9% of all burger spots in the world, they also have a sushi bar...? I cannot fathom how this abomination came to be, but I was and still am curious about it and have vowed to give it a go one day.

I and my compatriot both ordered the Kings Special, pastrami burger with fries and a drink, $7+. After a reasonable amount of time, our trays were brought out and I began to feed;
http://www.yelp.com/bi...

The burger arrived pre-cut in attempt to show off its innards. Didn't do it for me. The pastrami was lacking and the burger was the thinnest of thin.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...

It was satisfying and I can't complain too much about the flavor, as it was on par with this type of place. The price though was on the high side for a pastrami burger combo. It boggles my mind how this place has maintained a 4 star average. Don't you valley kids know there are better burgers out there? You can leave the valley, it's okay, don't be scared.

I would only return to try (and be disappointed by) the "sushi".

Came here on a whim one lazy Sunday afternoon with two friends while on a mission to find cheap goodies. Typical valley burger joint with all the multi-cultural food options that one would expect except on top of the burgers and mexican food normally served, they had a sushi bar !!! What ? Yeah... I know. Unfortunately the sushi bar was not open the day we went because I would have totally tried something. Instead I went ahead and ordered the "Kings Special" . A special fit for a king ? I think not ...

The burger patty was quite tiny . Actually I would go as far as to say it was one of the the thinnest I have experienced. Like a chain fast food joint value meal patty. The pastrami, although quite good and very salty was also served in a portion catering to a twelve year old. My fries were on par but who really cares about plain fries anyway. It served as just a filler for me. Service was fine. They did have Cherry Pepsi which was a nice surprise and the food came out in a timely manner. My only real problem was that I spent just about ten dollars for a fast food burger that did not quite fill me up.

In the slim chance that I ever went here in the future I would probably have to stick with just the pastrami or go for some of that sushi(which from the photos actually looked pretty good) just because it was one of the oddest sights I have seen at this type of establishment. If the sushi is as good as other reviewers are claiming it could knock King's burger up another star in my book. We will have to wait and see...

This place is good but not thatttt great. The burgers are not outstanding at all and they serve breakfast for only a short time which kinda sucks considering the place is in a college town and being hungover the night before, we probably don't wake up too early in time for it. I live very close to Kings but would rather go further to the Mighty Mouth for a burger and fries and also for the breakfast. The food is fresh but the ingredients are cheap. I used to work for a really awesome breakfast and burger joint so I guess my standard might be too high.

King's Burgers has so many options to choose from: if you are feeling burgers, gyros, burritos, breakfast, and sushi!!  The pastrami cheeseburger is delicious! The fries are crispy and the ranch  dressing is one of a kind! The truffle battered eel sushi and the King's Special Roll are both so flavorful and savory! The prices are very reasonable, especially for the sushi....you wouldn't think sushi of that caliber would be offered at such a good price, but it is at King's! They also have friendly staff and fast service......I can't wait to sample more of their menu =)

I have passed by this place a bazillion times and always thought, "ew that place looks nasty!"
So the other night when I wanted sushi that was decent and cheap I was shocked when my yelp search turned up this greasy spoon burger joint.
Turns out, just because a place is painted a 1970s shade of brown, doesn't mean it isn't clean... and only serves meaty nasty things.
The sushi here was freaking fantastic... and cheap ($8 for a fancy mango roll thing, 2.50 for a spicy tuna roll... I was stuffed and it was soooo good)... and the chef was ridiculously nice!
It was a little disorienting though figuring out how to order and what kind of things you can order, and the decor still is a little outside my comfort zone... so minus 1 star for that.
Seriously awesome though I'm probably going back tomorrow!

Absolutely never dissapoints.  I have been a regular here since my first visit.  Sushi is delicious, melt in you mouth good.  The chef always takes pride in his food, and it shows, i have eatin well over $1500 worth of his sushi, and not once, has there been anything not fantastic. Go omakase and he'll never let you down.

Burgers, f*n rock, add pastrami WHOA!, flavor overload. I always leave this place completely stuffed. BLT w/ avacado is the purest comfort food on eart, I wish they had it in IV form, strait to the veins.  Fries are wonderful. Chicken tacos are so juicy and succulent, im pretty sure these are the tacos they serve in heaven.

Now, breakfast is just the way i like it, not to huge, great value. 2 pancakes 2 eggs 2 bacon $4.

HOME RUN! Friggin Awesome!

Just ok. The burger was lacking in size but the taste was above average. The strawberry shake nearly sent me into a sugar induced coma. The onion rings were very good. I also tried one of their specialty rolls and I was not impressed.

This place would get 3 stars - but they serve sushi. And I'm pretty picky about my sushi - strangely enough, this rundown looking old school burger joint makes some real quality sushi at an awesome price point.

The rest of their food is a well done standard fast food burger. They also have tons of other stuff, like burritos and what have you.

Sometimes the staff is a little strange, or they act awkwardly though. I got mad dogged by an Asian chef for like 3 minutes straight, for no apparent reason. Haha.

Being a CSUN student it was hard not go here. It's so close to campus.

I have gone here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have always enjoyed myself.

Breakfast here can get pretty packed, especially on the weekends. I always just grabbed some pancakes, sausage and eggs and they have always filled me up. From what I recall it was only about five dollars.

I have also eaten the burgers and they were above-average. Nice texture and cooked well. Tasty and not greasy at all.

The stuff I love here are there tuna melts. I am a sucker for tuna and they pack on the tuna whenever I order it. Their fries are also good.

I like the old seventies feel of the place. I like the booth style seating because for some reason I have always been a fan of the leather seating with the buttons. You'll know what I am talking about when you check it out.

Stay away from the ice cream in the cooler and just stick to the food.

They have also added sushi but I haven't tried it yet. I'm sure it's good but nothing to rave about. Probably just good sushi for the price.

Okay, so i've always heard that the best place to get Philly Cheesesteak's are in none other than PHILADELPHIA! which is great, but one problem. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA. What a total bust right??? i'm not going to buy a ticket just to get lost in philly just for greasy, totally delicious cheesesteak.

So the next best thing? King's Burgers. Seriously, i haven't tried anything but their philly cheesesteaks here. i don't know why? maybe cause they're so damn good it keeps me wanting more!

What keeps me coming back are their FRIES w/ RANCH DRESSING. I really think they put crack in their ranch dressings cause it's homemade and is DELISH!!! I'm totally craving King's now. too bad i'm in San Francisco and not in Los Angeles...3 MORE DAYS! and imma get my FIX =)

Let me just first say, I am no burger snob in anyway! Sometimes a nice greasy charbroiled dive burger is nice if not comforting.

But this place is awful! The burger patties are the paper thin cheap frozen crap that schools use. They don't even taste charbroiled and if I'm not mistaken isn't charbroiled in the name?

The pastrami was actually the worst quality most flavorless that I have ever had in my life.

The zucchini did not have any flavor whatsoever and the ranch that was served with it had so much water in it it literally was impossible to dip.

I wish that I would have gone to Daglas in Winnetka then my days worth of calories would not have been wasted and I would have fullfilled my burger fix.

Been a fan since after my first visit, especially for the sushi. Once I tried some of Chef's Young sushi, I have been coming back ever since. The sushi is so fresh and it simply melts in your mouth with every bite. I usually go every Friday and it never ceases to amaze me. The burgers are awesome too especially there King's special, which is a burger with pastrami. If your ever around the area go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

As a former CSUN student I have been there numerous times for lunch. I have never had their beakfast so I will not comment on that. But I have had their burgers and fries. Their fries aren't the best, but they are far from being the worst. The burgers are what bring people in though. I usually got the Hawaiian burger. It's so good with those pineapple slices. I don't normally order the King's Special, but that is only because I don't want to die from a heart attack at the age of thirty. If I wasn't afraid of that, this would be my burger of choice.

If you go to CSUN, you can't graduate without going to King's. In fact, I think that if you never went, they won't give you a diploma until you show them a receipt.

"I'd like a pastrami burger and a spicy tuna roll please."

WTF?!?!

Yeah, what the hell is a burger place doing serving sushi?  Is it even sanitary for raw fish and a greasy griddle to be even near each other?  Those were the questions that raced through my mind the first time I walked in to King's BURGER for sushi.  But my rationale was, the sushi here can't be worse than any other place in the valley (sans Go's Mart and Chiba's)

And with risk came reward!  Great sushi at a very affordable price!  The sushi bar is small and there is a $15 minimum but Chef Young knows his stuff.  Apparently he has worked at a few locations honing his craft and wanted to slowly build his clientele while educating novices on the proper art that is sushi until he can afford to open his own restaurant.  Young has the standard rolls, fusion sushi as well as more traditional nigiri with a good selection of fresh fish.

If you are in the area and have a hankering for some sushi this is the place to go.  Great service, great selection and great quality overcomes the awkward surroundings.  If you still aren't a believer check out the photos!  Another note is that Young will do special omakase if you give him a day or two notice.  He promises great quality at a fraction of the price of more famous locations (he shares fish with Go's Mart and has an in at the fish market).

I have driven past King's Burgers twice a day for nearly twenty years, and never eaten there until a few months ago. The burgers, pastrami, and sandwich side of this restaurant provide excellent meals, evidenced by the other reviews.  But, what you would never expect in a "burger joint" is sushi that rivals taste and quality of anywhere in the valley.
Chef Young takes well deserved pride in every dish he creates.  Most customers come in expecting the sort of standard rolls, and sushi served by most other mainstream establishments common in the Valley, but that is not what Chef Young creates at King's.
Chef Young's dishes utilize traditional spices and sauces, and a personal touch not seen at other sushi shops.  Every meal is an experience, and you will not pay the arm and leg you might have to give up for similar sushi on Ventura Blvd.
So King's Burgers is actually two restaurants in one. A great place for an excellent sandwich, and an absolutely fantastic place to enjoy a personalized traditional sushi experience, that will not be soon forgotten.
A final note: Absolutely do not let the minimal ambiance of a burger joint cast any doubt about the quality of the sushi you will eat. Just sit down at the sushi bar, and order up. You will not be disappointed!

A very solid place to go eat in the valley. Being a former student at CSUN, this place was a "go to spot" on lunch breaks or when classes were over for the day.

I really have never had a bad experience from going to this place. The food is consisted in terms of taste, and the prices are great for students.

There is definitely a wide array of selections to choose from. Obviously coming from this restaurant name, the burgers are the most popular. The King's Special is by far the best pastrami burger I've had. But there are things ranging from Greek, Asian,  and Mexican. Ask for the Horchata!

There are computers there too for casual use.

So yeah, If you're ever hungry and in the CSUN area, it's one place to check out!

Don't hesitate! If you are around the Northridge area or CSUN... EAT AT KINGS!

Great grub with tons of variety.
Every shade of brown interior too.

I've driven past the joint so many times, and had made note of it, but was never curious enough to park my car and mosey on in.

Finally going there in the early hours, I was shocked to find that it wasn't just some small burger joint, but offered a full dining area boasting a small television which everyone ignores, self-serve pop machine, and hugely out of place A.C. unit. I also had a good laugh at the decorations being of asian influence.

The food, however, is the reason my stomache has become active and whines for me to provide another burger specifically from that wonderful place.

Ordering the avacado cheeseburger, I was disappointed to find plain American cheese. The lettuce wasn't a great choice, but crisp nonetheless. The pickles added a nice tart, while the patties juices played wonderfully with the tomatoes. (I love tomatoes).

From the breakfast menu, I also ordered the 3 eggs, hash, and toast. I found the yolk in my Sunny Side Up eggs to have been cooked, which completely ruined my egg experience. The hash, which was nice and crispy topside, weren't mirrored beneathe- soggy, and oily. At least my egg/hash sandwhich was descent.

My opinion: Come for the meat, or go home.

This place has great food if you don't mind it being greasy. I tried their sushi, and I have to say that it was 'okay'. The wait is never very long for your food, and it's a great place to walk to during a break in classes. I ordered their boba once, and it wasn't that great. If you want boba, head over to 'Bounce Boba Loft'.
