Yay! I'm a fan. My son enjoyed himself. He was not afraid of the water and wanted to go in all by himself. Um no I don't think so. My older nephews kept looking at the chics that had their tops off. I think they were from European. I think someone finally told them they needed to put their tops back on.
We went on a Monday, so it wasn't crowded at all. It was nice to be there during a time where people are not running over you. They have a nice picnic table area for large parties. The bathrooms were not bad.
Not a bad beach but...
it doesn't compare to the beauty of the other Tahoe beaches.
It's a solid place to take families but if you go to Tahoe and want to avoid screaming kids and obnoxious parents then avoid this beach.
Like many others have said though....on weekdays its much more relaxing and 4 star worthy.

During the week, crowds are tolerable. On the weekend, you should avoid this minivan/SUV hellhole. There's full parking lots and jam-packed water with too many boats, jet skis, and rental toys. Plus, lines at the bathroom and very cramped space to "relax" in on the sand. Kings Beach is to car camping as Chimney Beach is to hike-in camping. King's Beach is a little touch of Jersey right there in California.
The sand is softer than that gritty sand at Sand Harbor Beach, but the view isn't quite as marvelous, which is a funny thing to say because it's still very remarkable. Tahoe is beautiful all around, a natural paradise. Pine trees growing up out of sand--how novel!
It's good for groups seeking a very large beach, with lots of restaurants, recreation and rentals close by. If volleyball is your thing--a net is permanent fixture here. I guess $8 is the standard fee for parking at public beaches in Tahoe, which just bugs me. Public beaches should be FREE. After 5PM, they charge $5 for visitor parking. Grumpily, I pay and tell myself the money goes toward beach cleanup. Despite all of the convenient trash/recycle cans, there was a fair amount of refuse on the beach.
Hella small town beach On Tahoe's North Shore.
White sand, picnic tables, clean bathrooms and changing area, walking distance of shops and rental outfits, people lounging in bikinis, brilliant clear water. Almost tropics, except for the giant pine trees and snow on distant mountains.
If you haven't seen the lake before, it's as blue as a lake can get, outrageously blue. If you painted anything that color your art teacher would write you up and give you detention it's that blue.
Though the lake is large and mind-bogglingly deep, this part is gently sloped sand and smooth large rocks offshore. Water is cool to shrivel your manhood, but after a few minutes you get used to it and it's pleasant for late August.
All in all, far superior to the ocean unless you're a surfer because:
1. The water is clean and clear -- you can open your eyes and it does not sting.
2. Like the ocean, you can pee in here and nobody is the wiser.
3. There are no jellyfish, sharks, or anything to be afraid of except Tahoe Nessie. In fact, I didn't even see any fish.
4. Unless there's a big storm there's no riptide, current, sudden dropoff. Here you CAN turn your back to the lake. The waves come in sets up to about a foot, so a rogue wave might be, what, two?
Body surfing wasn't good because the breaks are right up against the shore. Have you ever been slammed hard against the bottom by a one-foot wave? It gives you zero appreciation at all for the power of nature, none. More like the itchiness of sand.

i didn't get to swim, just waded...but if you're looking for clean water, this is the way to go.
the bathrooms aren't super clean, but they're better than most. there are picnic tables but i'd recommend getting a blanket of beach chair and lounging right on the sand. there are beautiful, grand pine trees all around. it was fabulous!!
