I couldn't think of what is open at almost 10PM. Ono closes at 9 or 9:30.

After class I was hungry. I was contemplating going to Domino's for pizza since they have a deal going on this week, but decided on King of Thai. I had my cash (cash only) & was ready to go. The sign said they were open but they didn't have any more customers inside, so I asked if they were open & they were. I quickly ordered since I'm sure all the workers wanted to go home.

I decided on #38 green curry w/ rice. I have no idea what it's called, just look in the curry section. I've had this exact dish once before and split it with a friend. We ordered several dishes that time, but this was the only one I could remember. I didn't remember it was so spicy, I remember it was spicy but not that spicy. It probably isn't spicy, only to me.

Maybe I wasn't hungry today, actually I was but I still have half a container of curry & no rice left. I guess I'll have to add more rice into the curry. For under $8, I have enough curry for 2 meals but not enough rice.

This place is awful and I'm surprised I haven't gotten food poisoning.

Usually I'd get takeout so I'd walk  up to the unfriendly girl at the register say "pad thai with prawns" she'd give me a blank stare, if that, and tell me the total.

Then they'd slowly make my food while I look at the low 90s health inspection report card. Low 90s is only OK when you have 5 APs and you just need an A- to keep that 4.63 semester GPA.

Oh, and they nickel and dime you for everything.
~"A few more peanuts" = "Extra charge."
~"Can I get a little peanut sauce" = "Extra charge"
If I asked for my money back I wonder what they'd say...

Only eat here if you're really, really tired of everything else at Lakeshore (and Stonestown)

King of Thai is a decent place.  It seems as though ordering to go will give you the higher probability of getting more food.  Now this doesn't mean you WILL get more food.  Just a higher chance of it happening.

I ordered the Pad See Ew and Pad Thai to go.  They had a lot of the Pad See ew, but the Pad Thai box was  significantly less full.  Seemed as though half of what was there was bean sprouts as well.  The Pad See Ew was okay. My only complaint is that the beef was very chewy/hard.  It might be that Thai people like to have their beef cooked this way, because I don't think I've ever had Beef Pad See Ew where it wasn't

I also ordered Thai Iced Tea.  While it was delicious, they really filled the cup with ice (but what store doesnt?)

Service is fine here, except while I was waiting to pick up my food, the cashier waited for a lady to order her food to go instead of serving me while she looked at the menu.

Other than that, it's a fine place to go for Thai

I love this place! The red curry is off the hook! Seriously...I've had red curry from a couple different thai places in the city...and no one else even compares. Way cheap, hella fast, and extremely tasty! If the beef was slightly higher quality, it'd be a perfect five stars for me.

this one is probably the worse king of thai i have been to. i had pad see ew, and the veggies were no longer  a bright green but now a dull and dingy green with a very bitter taste to it. And thats not the first time, i e been idsappointed with this location. their vegetables in other noodle dishes don't seem to be fresh yet they dont seem to care. the service is always fast, but u tend to get ignored even if u try to get the check from them. thai ice tea is probably the best part about this KOT, you really can't mess that up!

I've only been to the King of Thai at this location about 6 months back.  After getting the recommendation from a Thai friend, I was looking forward to trying this place.  I was hoping for the great food experience I had while traveling in Thailand a couple of years ago.  Unfortunately, my food ended up being quite ordinary.  The place is also quite dirty.  I ended with a very upset stomach (although I didn't have the runs like some yelpers).  Needless to say, I've not been back since.

I ordered soup with chow fun, meatballs and minced meat a while back.  It was really good soup, basic though, probably salt, msg, with the broth of some type of meat, however, I enjoyed it.  It was very heartwarming, especially eating it soaking wet after a cold tuesday dragonboat practice in lake merced.  The prices you pay for the portions you give is an A+.  The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew seem very tempting to get, as well.  I believe I saw that they charge you for hot tea?  I'm not exactly sure though.

Ok so after school today , a bunch of friends and i wanted to get something to eat. Before i came to this restaurant, i didn't really like the sound of it.. but it was a majority rule thing. Ok so we went there, it was kinda dark inside.. i hate eating in a dark area.

Ok on to the food. I ordered the chicken noodle.. i forgot what it was called. But i have to say. the Noodles were pretty darn good. The food was pretty decent.

Now why i gave it a 3.. well .. it was too dark for me sorry thats just me. and the service wasn't that great. Looked at us like we weren't going to pay or something. and the place wasn't really clean. but ya thats pretty much it. Overall it was okay

I don't know how it happens, but I feel that with Thai cuisine, you can barely go wrong.

The dishes here are your typical Thai cuisine, very average. The price is very reasonable, and the portions are good.

The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because its ambiance and cleanliness isn't the best, so the place can definitely improve in those areas.

I love King Of Thai!! Of course, I went to Thailand in October/2008 so there's no comparison, but this place rocks!!

Their beef flat noodle is great too!!

It's spelled & pronounced Pad See Ew...but they wrote on the menu Pad See Lew.

I don't care...that's how I'm going to pronounce it from now on. You'll understand the joke if you understand Cantonese.

So cheap, so good. Great for an individual, great for a group, great for families. Soup, Satay, Rice dishes, Curry, Stir-fry noodles, Salads. As a regular, everything we've tried has never disappointed. Highly recommended.

BTW, for the regular take-out runs, AT&T's 3G service has gotten much better inside. If you want to step out for a few minutes while you wait for your food, you can peruse the aisles the neighboring Blockbuster or GameStop across the way.

My friend took me and my girlfriend here after he picked us up from SFO. I had the yellow curry with vegetables. It was okay, nothing too special. I think I like the stuff I've had in San Diego better.

The service was pretty good, and the employees seem friendly.

It's a bummer that they only accept cash.

There's something to be said about quick and dirty. It's American.

Well, okay this place ain't American but it's darn tooting close.

It's a real sit down meal, you can't say it's not. It's clean, you got a waitress and there's an appetizer menu.

But there's always parking, the prices are cheap and the food comes briskly.

The food isn't bad, it isn't expensive and it's convenient. Why not King of Thai?

Thank you KOT for reminding me why I don't order food from here. The pad thai was bland and dry and their cashew chicken was gummy and overcooked! I've been to every KOT in SF and they are NOT all the same!

Honestly, how can you f#ck up pad thai? Isn't that every thai restaurant's  standard dish? It sucks when you order two dishes and you end up raiding your fridge to eat leftovers instead.

It's hard to pinpoint, but as much as the food isn't too bad at this location, it isn't too great either.  I ordered their green curry pork, cloud mushroom salad appetizer, chicken satay with peanut sauce, cucumber appetizer, 2 thai iced teas and white rice to go.  Nothing earth shattering as I mentioned, just sadly not as great as I had hoped.  Oh, and the rice they gave me was quite old too.  As in the next day, it's ready to be thrown away.  It had the browning crust that only happen with ancient rice.

Yes please!~ This is a great place to grab a quick meal as I have been here several times and, as the previous reviewer noted, reasonably priced for sure.

My favorite location is still the one nearest to Union Square, however this location really doesn't fall far behind because the food tastes great regardless. Their flavors are on target and their service is friendly. Especially good for take out because parking is a pain!

The Sunset is normally a mecca of great restaurants, but in the middle of the night it becomes difficult to find some late night grub.  I found a Hawaiian BBQ restaurant open (but closing soon) so I hopped in the car and rushed over only to find that they were no longer serving.  Fortunately, there was a King of Thai Noodles in the same plaza so I was in business.

I ordered their chicken Panang curry which was served with rice.  Blended with peanut sauce, this curry was fantastic and was absolutely what I needed to cure my hunger pangs.  I am not normally accustomed to having peanut sauce in the curry, but it proved to be a great combination that I will have to try to recreate in my own kitchen.

I am a bonafide fan of King of Thai Noodles restaurants, especially now.  I was so relieved that they were even open that I even tipped extra for that convenience.  It's no wonder that they are so successful seeing as though they have an awesome balance of great food, low prices, superb convenience, and warm service.  It's a great concept that I think other restaurants can really learn from and I only wish that I had one of these in San Diego.  Fortunately for me, I can make everything that they can, perhaps even better!

This is fast and easy thai food.  They have the basics, nothing super fancy.  I've never had to wait for a table there and the food is always consistent.  The food is very home-cooking like, and the portions are decent.  Overall.. good place to get your thai food craving without breaking the bank.

So this is the second King of Thai restaurant I'm familiar with, and like that one, this place is more like a high 3... like a 3.6 or something... well now it is after tonight.

This place is a lot closer to my place than the one on Taraval so it automatically gets a thumbs up in that department. Even though the place is pretty small... smaller than the place on Taraval... I've never had to wait to get a table here. I notice that the walls are some weird purple lavender color... I don't know, I'm colorbind... and yet the waitresses aren't wearing the matching polo shirts that the ones in Taraval do... I don't know if it's a requirement... but it doesn't really matter.

This place, I'm use to two dishes... the  pad thai and the pineapple fried rice. The pineapple fried rice is aesthetically better, but I think you get more with the Taraval. However, I always thought the fried rice was pretty good here... though  I have one complaint. Tonight, the shrimp didn't taste all that great. I can't put my finger on it, but I just didn't like the taste. It's a first, though... unless I'm just now recognizing it. The pad thai is pretty good... but I can't really compare between the two King of Thais since it's been a while since I've been to the Taraval one.

If you're shopping at Lucky's, and you're craving Thai food, this place is pretty good most of the time. It seems cleaner than the one on Taraval even though it's quite tiny and the food for the most part is generally the same.... let me take that back... it might be a little bit better over at Taraval, but I'm just going on memory.

Tip: One dollar, ten pennies.

Waitress: "Take back your pennies; we don't need them."

You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me. You don't take pennies?! You're going to refuse my money?? And then you have the nerve to tell me that you don't need my pennies when I'm TIPPING you?! It's exactly an "a-ok" place, with "a-ok" prices and "a-ok" food. I wouldn't take a date here! My biggest gripe is that they don't take cards, and the nearest ATM is inside the Lucky's.

I am never particularly disappointed by my orders, but there is definitely room for improvement. Their duck fried rice... lacking quite a bit of duck.

If you're looking to get full on a cheap dime, go into Albertson's and buy yourself some groceries. However, I am relatively satisfied with the attentive wait staff even when they are busy.

I have to agree with most of the other reviewers on KOT.  This place is ok.  You won't be disappointed with the food but don't get your expectations up.  It's fast-food, thai style.  They take your order and push you out the door quickly.  I've been to three KOT's and they're all pretty much the same.

I'm just curious where they get their waitresses from.  I've never seen more thin thai girls in one place before....sweet.

On yelp it displays this place opening at 10:30am.

Ok,so I call about 10:15am and try to order for a quick pick up and the person (woman) answered and responded by saying
this:

Woman: We are not open yet.

(note- I thought I could perhaps call and put in my order a few minutes before opening and then pick it up after 10:30am)

Me: Oh,ok but I have a question..
Woman:...click
Me: What the....
Me:Did she just...

I call back a little after 10:30am and the same thing happened and she repeated they were not open.

Strange,yet odd.

It was kind of weird and I am not going to let this experience stop me from exploring more Thai restaurants.

It was a weird that there seemed to be a waitress for every table in this little place. They must be employing every cousin (that is female and under 17) that they have.

They have an *80 rating from the inspector. Well, there is always room for improvement right?

We ordered food to go and it was ready in under 15 minutes. Things were looking up!
My food was good and it was the perfect amount of spicy.

Reasonably good food, average price, good parking, fast service.

No ambiance whatsoever.  But if you want to get decent thai food to pick up and bring home, they're great!!  They never fail with these dishes:  chile basil chicken/beef, papaya salad, corn cakes, green curry, larb salad, and roasted duck soup.  If you want extra vegetables, you totally have to pay extra though.  You could still get stiffed, so you definitely have to check your order.  Since it's a chain, some King of Thai Noodle House's are better than others.  But all in all, they're alright.

Eh, this King of Thai should be renamed King of Runs as I have suffered one too many loose stool moments after dining at this location.  Good thing I live close by because the bathroom is a huge ick factor.

The Taraval outpost of this joint is so much better.  Just drive 5 minutes more and your stomach (and toilet) will thank you.

Came here with 2 friends tonight, and it was the first time eating here. Usually we go to the other Taraval branch, but decided that we would try this place out. Consequently my friends got pineapple fried rice, roast duck stir fried rice, and I got Pad Kee Mao with beef. We awaited our order which didn't take too long.

I will say this. I'm usually very biased against local favorites. I really really like the taraval branch, not so much for their service, but the food tastes spicier, and usually the food is tasty. This branch seemed to cater to a crowd that perhaps has less of a stomach for a constant burning tongue, but overall it was good. The service people were attentive, and although a bit smaller than the Taraval branch, there wasn't as big of a crowd, and the decor in my opinon was nicer. It's also a tad cleaner, but that could due to the fact that the place doesn't get too many customers during the early evening.

The Pad Kee Mao dish had more noodles and less chilis. Usually that's a bad thing, but the Taraval branch seems to put on the hot and turn the knob to 11. It's not a bad thing, but sometimes the thai iced tea isn't enough to quiet the flaming burn. Also, there apparently was less grease used to cook the food. If you ever get this same dish from the Taraval branch, after finishing your dish, there's a lot of brown grease at the bottom of your plate. That can't be too healthy for you. This place was significantly less heavy on the grease, and the remaining oil on my plate was clear, so that's gotta be healthier.

The pineapple fried rice had less rice, but more stuff... aka chicken, pineapple, etc. The roast duck stir fry rice was apparently well appreciated by my friend as well.

Overall not bad, and since my friend recently moved closer to this location, we'll probably frequent this place more. Slightly healthier options, and the waiters/waitresses are more friendly, and don't serve with an cold attitude. The decor is nicer, and cleaner, and the patrons aren't overflowing the tables. Nice experience, would definitely recommend this place. I'm definitely coming back.

i love the this King of Thai more than other others in the city.  The place is small and the parking is tough when it's busy, which is practically every day, but i'm willing to wait to get my fix of prad ga prow (minced chicken or pork, sauteed with hot peppers) or pad thai.

In the restaurant, there are maybe less than 8 tables to sit at, so it's no wonder you'll see people coming in and out, picking up their take-out orders.

Everytime I come here, the service is speedy and not once have I felt neglected or dissed n' pissed.  Usually go with the BF and we order the same damn thing every time - he gets the fried rice with crispy chicken strips, no tomatoes or onions, and I get the chicken fried rice with no tomatoes and a CRAP LOAD of that spicy red hawt juice/sauce.  If the portions aren't filling enough, (for me, 1 dish is enuf) I'd suggest getting the pad see ew with fried rice or curry rice; very good.

Sometimes the communication with the waitress/waiter is difficult but a little patience goes a long way.  I don't think they intentionally try to be rude or not understand simple instructions/requests...it does get a little frustrating but I won't hold it against them.  Service - good.  Food - satisfying.  Price - Fair.  Location - convenient.  I am - awesome.

not the best king of Thai out of all the one's they have in San Francisco but still love it! This is the closest one to my house and especially love them because it's right next to work, can it get any better?

I loved how they remembered what I order, #15 Pay See Lew w/ ground beef and even gave me a free thai iced tea! Thanks to the crew.

btw, what happened to the guy w/ the small pony tail? HE DISAPPEARED! he was real chill though, cool guy.

the place is not too big, not the cleanest either thats why for the negative star but i still love the food and their service is good, just a little slower when it gets busy at night and on the weekends.

new fav: #21 w/ ground beef!

"CASH ONLY!  CASH ONLY!"  That's all I hear from them!  Aye yaaaa!  It's like, damn, stop trying to avoid taxes, but then again, I give them props for "stickin' it to the MAN!"

The food is good and their Thai iced tea is never watered down.  The service stinks as I asked for water 4 times until I had to go up to the counter and demand for it.  But hey, what do you expect from an Asian restaurant?  That's how we roll!

Decent food for a decent price with delicious thai iced tea.  Oh yes, parking is easy to find at the Sloat location but somewhat difficult at the Taraval.  My recommendations?  Pineapple fried rice, green curry with chicken, thai iced tea and pad thai.

Disappointing. As. Hell.

The entire time I was on the treadmill at the gym, all I could think about was indulging in a plate of Pad See Ew from King of Thai. I had it all planned out: I was going to swing by Taraval on my way home, pick up a #15 Pad See Ew, steal some peppers from the hidden stash under the cart, and go home to a nice toasty meal. Buttt, I decided since I had videos to return at Blockbuster, I'd kill 2 birds with one stone and head to the King of Thai on Sloat instead. Big mistake.

I waited an eternity for my order and when it finally got to our table, it was cold as ice. I stirred it around my plate hoping that maybe the noodles underneath were still warm and saucy... but no. Just a plate of cold ass noodles on a cold ass night. Yuck.

I asked the waitress if she wouldn't mind taking it back because it was way too cold to the *touch* to enjoy. She gladly took it back, and my faith was briefly restored. That is, until I saw her open up the microwave and nuke my noodles for a good 2 minutes :(  They came out as expected: burning hot in some places, freezing cold in others. The sauce was even more evaporated and I sat there poking at the heap of noodles in front of me wishing I had just made the extra effort to go to Taraval. I'm still regretting that decision *sigh*

Ps. To the couple who's table was right next to ours and had steaming, fresh, saucy looking food: Damn you both.

Had the yellow curry with pork. Service was good, and the food came quickly. You get the most bang for your buck, as the portions are generous. Every time I come here I have to get the thai iced tea. Nothing special about the drink here, I just love it.

Located in a plaza with lots of parking spaces, this restaurant is a convenient choice for those craving Thai. I only wish there were more plazas in SF like there are in Irvine where I used to live.

The only negative I can think of is they accept only cash.

They DEMANDED a tip for a party of four and decided that they could automatically charge us 15% because they felt our tip was not good enough for them.

Then, they decided that it was ok to tell me that I should have enough money  to tip them better if I could afford to eat out, and that they would refuse service next time we came in.  (there is no next time)

I didn't know that it was ok demand a tip from a paying customer, and talk s**t to them during work hours.

I read some reviews about the Phad-Thai not being good (mildly put) and I agree.  I'll pass on that the next time.  This place is what it is.  Fairly priced hot food conveniently located.  It's a bit hard to understand that the quality of food per location varies, but like I suggested earlier it's good enough.  You want better Thai, go to Marni, Ploy, Sai Jai, but if you want to stay in this part of town this place is ok.
