Sure King of Thai probably doesn't obey food safety regulations, and they probably annoy many for being cash only.  But, sometimes I just want quick affordable Thai food, without the ambiance and frills. After a long day of shopping, I just want to sit down and eat some noodles smothered in peanut sauce and slices of meat.  That's the only dish I love here. Everything else is so so. The pineapple fried rice, pad Thai and curries are acceptably good but not amazing.

I enjoy watching tourists walk by/into this haphazard Asian eatery.  Their confused expressions of "why is this dirty little Asian place so crowded?" followed by "what is Thai food?".  Always entertaining.

CASH ONLY!!  We ate here for a cheap & quick Thai dinner.  It's close to Powell St Bart only a few block up & on the Right on O'Farrell St, Union Square.  It's very purple in there.

Place was busy at 6pm on Sat night, but they found us a two-top table.

We got:

Seafood noodle soup $7.45- shrimp, calamari, fake crab meat, fish balls, fish cakes, white mushroom & beansprouts, noodles in clear broth.  B. liked it.

Pad kee mao $7.75 - fat rice noodles w/ choice of ground meat, some green beans, bell peppers, thai chili & basil.  Not enough breen beans, not spicy at all when I requested it, ground meat average.  Really enough for 2 people since it's large portion.

Thai iced tea $2.50 - good.

Before tip it was $19.40.  Tamarind hard candy given with bill.  CASH ONLY!!

I wanted to like King of Thai, I really did, but from a food perspective, it just didn't do it for me. The service was excellent - very attentive! But the beef panang curry was so not good for me, that I stopped eating it after my initial hunger pains were gone. As in, I left half on the plate, and explicitly declined the To-Go container. The sauce was flat, bland, and lacked all spice, in my opinion. Maybe a dull peanut taste? But no hint of any coconut, spice, etc. I much prefer the panang curry of Benjarong Thai (and many other Thai places) to here, as their curries are complex and have lots of flavor. This one at King of Thai was really quite awful. I'm sorry, but I have to be honest since panang curry is one of my staples. Again, great service.

p.s. I also didn't appreciate the "cash only" part. Apparently I didn't see the sign before venturing in. Sure, I had cash on me, but that's not the point. What if I didn't? Be warned.

Tyra Banks proclaims that in beauty and fashion, there's a Good Kill and a Bad Kill.

http://i33.tinypic.com...

In the above photo from America's Next Top Model Cycle 13 Episode 6, Rae killed both Jennifer (the Asian chick) and Brittany (the Bride of Frankenstein). But what killed them in a negative way was Jennifer.

Get it?

No?

Let me further illustrate.

Things That Kill In A Bad Way:

- People Who Wear Transition Lenses (WHY?? The transition from indoor to outdoor is awkward at best, but usually just plain fugly)
- The Aftertaste Of Lamb Meat (I imagine it's like licking a Cable Car Operator's armpit)
- People Singing "Killing Me Softly" At Karaoke (That song has been ruined for me. One time... Two times...)
- The Interminably Long Wait Between Releases For Awesome Book Serieses (Seria? Serii??? WHAT IS THE PLURAL OF "SERIES"????) Such As Harry Potter (RIP) and Wheel of Time (Oh, RIP, too)

Things That Kill In A Good Way:

- Fierce Drag Queens (Stonewall proved that these Ladies can and will kill if provoked)
- My Photography Skills (I can make you look beautiful, fierce, smize-like, and what's most importantly, skinny)
- The Krumping During The Choreography of Beyonce's "Sweet Dream" video (I WILL throw my back out while reenacting it one of these days)
- The Barbecue Pork & Won Ton Vegetable Soup at King Of Thai (the broth is a myriad of flavors: savory, herbal, salty, sweet, slightly tangy, and rich)

This King Of Thai location is cash-only (this is USEFUL) and as such, is slightly (like $0.25-$1.50) cheaper than other Thai restaurants.

It's also extremely busy, but I've realized in my numerous visits that it usually takes longer for YOU to decide what to order vs. the time it takes for the food to come out once you've ordered. That's Beauty. That's Power. That's Maybelline.

I just grabbed a quick meal here and discovered a METAL WIRE in my green curry (see the photo in the photo section at the top of this page).

Pretty serious object, so out of concern for others I asked to speak the the owner/manager who initially took our order. I was told that the manager conveniently could not be found. Which is a shame, I didn't want a free meal I wanted to make sure this didn't happen again to future customers.

Be responsible. Make sure you don't serve another metal wire and put your customers in danger of choking on it. I wasn't going to post this review but as I took the photo they asked me not to "Yelp It". That combined with the effort from the staff to hide this mistake from the manager I felt obligated to post and share this experience.

*MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR FOOD IF YOU EAT HERE.

After searching low and high for a restaurant to eat at around the Union Square area, we landed here. The food is pretty oily, but tasty. Then again I could be bias because I was pretty hungry.

Cheap btw.

Yelp App to the rescue. We wanted something light and end up finding this place on Yelp. I order the Fish ball noodle soup with pork with Fat noodles. It was not bad but I just liked the noodles and broth. The fish ball tasted fine but the fish cake I think was not to fresh. The garlic chicken with rice was to salty. Okay place to sober up and grab something to eat. Yeah saw a guy throw up at the table that was not a good site.

I've had to fly into SF a few times in the last two months and just moved here on Tuesday but I've already eaten here three times.  It's not the best Thai food but its something like it.  There's just something about the Pad Thai noodles that keeps me coming back.  It's great when it comes out fresh and steaming hot but if you take it To-Go it's like a big clump.  I also enjoy the Chicken Larb with the spicy powder they leave on the table.   My fiance enjoys the chicken soup with rice noodles, but only because it reminds him of Pho.

Cash only.

Pad Thai Noodles $8
Chicken Larb $8
Chicken Noodle Soup $6.50

When nothing else is open and you're craving cheap Asian food late night, this is a good place to go to. Other than that, I would say the food quality is... Meh... not that great...

We had the tum yum soup which was sour (the way it's suppose to be) with overcooked chicken breast (which made it really dry)... also had the pad thai.. the noodles were pretty soggy... egg rolls which were dry and not much flavor...

It is super cheap tho... beware of the oily tho.. it's super oily.. eek!

The place proved to be a great stop on the way home from a CAL game a couple of weeks ago. A group of friends and I had made our way back to the city on Bart, and after getting off at Powel, were searching for food because we were STARVING. And then we found King of Thai Noodle House.

The service was good, as I would expect it to be at 11pm when we were one of only a few tables seated. The place was large, but I wouldn't exactly say clean or too appealing... but not bad for cheap Thai.

The food was great. I got my normal Thai dish...Pad Khee Mao. My only complaint is that they were out of the large egg noodles, which is my favorite part of the dish. But they gave me a choice of substitutions and I chose the smaller egg noodles, and the dish was still delicious.

The place served up good food, prices were good, and service and cleanliness were all good (or at least sufficient). I'd definitely go back.

I had to write a review for this one. I totally forgot about this, but I HAD to *this incident happened prior to my becoming a yelper, but its totally necessary to bring this up*

This place has great food. Yum. I mean, grrrreat. Its fast, cheap... why not come in here, right?

WELL. Let me tell you. No matter how freakin delicious that pad thai is/was.... looking down at the plate and seeing a little cockroach that had been sauteed to a crisp staring back at you doesn't do much for your appetite.... especially when it wasn't seen right after your first bite.

You start wondering if any of his buddies made it in to the heaping forkfulls and perhaps went unnoticed with all the different textures going on in your mouth.

GROSS. I was so shocked. I didn't even make a big deal about it, I should've. I just called the lady over and pointed in disbelief. She told another lady, and of course they get a shocked look in their face and quietly tell me I won't need to pay. NO SHIT! I really deserved more than that, seriously. I'm sorry, eating bugs is cool for some cultures BUT NOT FOR ME, BUDDY.

If you get one roach that gets noticed in one plate THAT'S ONE TOO MANY. Who knows what else they have going on back there. Its just gross. Needless to say, I've never been back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND EATING THERE, EVER.

This place was yummylicious! Came here with a party of 8 and we all enjoyed our meal. I'd have to say, their pad see ew was really good. Lots of noodles and perfectly made. The pad thai was great, pork larb, awesome, crab fried rice, too die for. Almost everything we ordered was great. The only thing I didn't care for was the Tom Yum soup. It wasn't all that. They don't use straw mushrooms which is key to the real thing. The broth wasn't sour and spicy as i'm used too. But overall, this place is worth the money spent.

The service was as you would expected since the place was packed. It was busy but not too bad. The food comes out pretty quickly and it's nice and piping hot! We def will be back if we are ever in the area. Authentic Thai for reasonable prices is a must try.

All of my friends have jumped on the Pho Noodle Bowl bandwagon long ago. I always wondered what the hell the fuss was about: big bowls of broth with some noodles, veggies and meat? If I wanted soup I'd go to Safeway and get a can of Campbell's.

I was wrong. WRONG. I tried the wonton and BBQ pork soup at King Thai Noodle House and was instantly a changed woman. The broth was was like nothing I've ever had. It had spices all up in there that I couldn't even identify. Whatever they were it was pure broth-y amazingness. The BBQ pork was an excellent addition and the long flat noodles and Asian broccoli (that I requested) all added to the tantalization of my taste buds.

I'm a believer. I am now officially riding first class on the bandwagon.

Meh, given the setting of this place, this is just really for the "quick bite to eat" when you're on the go in downtown SF and you don't necessary want to settle for the typical mall food inside Westfield or at the basement of Macy's.

We came here the other day for a late lunch - ordered roasted duck fried rice and a pad kee mao w/ chicken.  We preferred the fried rice over the pad kee mao.  At least w/ the rice dish, it was tasty with actual pieces of roasted duck.  The pad kee mao w/ chicken did not came with chicken at all, we *think* (or hope) it was ground pork...but regardless, it lacked spice & flavor.  I'd also realized that everytime we've came, their pad kee mao tastes different each time.  Not sure if I'll be coming back here...unless I'm really really desperate for a quick meal in the area...

Btw: they only take cash (which we weren't aware of until AFTER we ordered...) but there is an ATM machine located right outside the restaurant, although its service charge is $3.75.  Boo.  :P

Definitely one of the best Thai foods that I have eaten. Their curries, rice noodles and stir fries are awesome. The specials (ones that you haven't seen in other Thai places) are a little bit of a stretch but the basics are amazing.

The service is really good. They are trying to get you fed and out pretty quickly but doesn't seem pushy.

Has quickly become one of my favorite lunch places. The only downside is that it takes cash only.

My friends and I had lunch here today, and the general consensus of the place was YUM. If you're looking for a FAST and CHEAP eat, this is the place to go. It's a couple of blocks (near H&M) from the general Union Square area, so finding this little spot was easy.

For three people, the total came out to be about $25. I had the chicken fried rice (kao pad), while my friends had pad thai and the vegetarian fried rice. Our order came out quickly and steaming hot.

My dish was just what I needed after skipping breakfast that morning. The rice was fluffy and flavorful, with a good amount of chicken in each bite. The portion sizes was just about enough for one person to finish. The pad thai was delish too, I'll definitely order that the next time I go!

One of the few faults I have with this place is that it is CASH ONLY! I mean, come on... you're in SF! in Union Square! People are shoppin' and swiping that plastic like there's no tomorrow! The service was kind of non-existent, but our food arrived fast, so it wasn't much of a big deal to us. Although our food came to us quickly, we received our dishes separately (within a 3-4 minute interval, I would say).

Other than that, I would definitely come back again. Good food at a good price for us poor college students. :)

If you are in a hurry and don't want fast food, come here!

King of Thai Noodle House is affordable for the jobless, gives huge portions for the hungry, and is quick for those in a rush.  The menu is quite possibly the most extensive I have ever seen for a Thai restaurant.  It includes noodles, soup, fried rice, and curries.

For those Pad Thai lovers out there, this place uses a very thin noodle, so if you like the thicker noodles, you may not be pleased with the pad thai.  Also, the noodles, being so thin, kind of clump together making it more difficult to separate mouthfuls.

But what really grabs me is the fast service.  I have been there twice now and both times, I have gotten my food within 5 minutes of ordering.  it is the quickest turn around ever!  And the food comes out piping hot, so you know the food is fresh.

Oh and the reason for the missing fifth star - it's cash only.

A good choice for quick, but good Thai right near union square.  The building has a surprising amount of seating, but also managed to keep the service brisk.

Everyone at our table was quite happy with their meals and the prices, from the duck and pineapple in red curry to the beef noodle soup to the chicken fried rice, portions were generous and price was quite reasonable.

Even without reservations at 7:45 on a friday night we got right in and were served quickly.

I come here from time to time for some cheap quick eats in the area and I usually go for the fried chicken over fried rice with an occasional thai iced tea.  It's been a while since I ate here, but today I had my usual dish and it was horrible. The chicken was not too bad with the sauce, but the rice was soo bland (not just in my opinion, but both my sisters as well).  I just ended up eating the chicken.

I love coming here before retail therapy at Union Square.

Today I had the stewed duck noodle in Chinese herb broth and an appetizer called Hoi Jar. It was awesome that I didn't have to do too much work to each the duck since the meat of the duck leg was coming off the bone. The broth was very interesting. Even though it was an herb broth, there was only a hint of bitterness. It tasted more like a sweet beef broth to me. As for the Hoi Jar, I absolutely love it! It's a little bit expensive ($8.95) for the 8 to 10 pieces you'd get, but man, it's definitely tasty. Hoi Jar is like a cut up deep fried seafood eggroll. Doesn't that say enough already?

I love coming to this place because they have really nice servers. I don't mind that they intend for you to quickly chow down and go. Afterall, they serve within minutes you order, which is always awesome when you're hungry.

Meh.  I met up with my friend Miyuki here a while ago.  I came a ways to get to SF and have dinner with someone I haven't seen in a long while, so I guess eating here was a bit of a let down.

The pad thai I had was just okay, but it was all stuck together in large clumps.  I thought it was alot when the plate arrived, but half of it ended up being cabbage and sprouts that took up a lot of space.

Price was reasonable, but they only take cash, so be prepared.  The location's very good if you want some casual sit down food while shopping at Union Square.  I think I would rather go down to the food court in the mall though.

Service was what really set me off on the negative side.  Whenever we asked for something, the girl helping us just kinda had this glaring, unhappy look like we asked her to shoot her dog or something.  We're just asking for a to go box and to refill our drink... I dunno.  A smile or an OK or any positive acknowledgment would have gone a long way.

I'm not a huge fan of Thai food. In fact, when a group of us get together ever so rarely the answer to the question, "what should we eat?" will always be "not Thai." But alas, you've finally got me to take the bait King of Thai. A co-worker had a horrible hankering for it and since I was the reason for his missed breakfast, I offered to grab whatever his heart desired. His heart desired Thai food of all things because apparently he was a mind reader and could see my brain waves read, "anything but Thai, anything but Thai, anything but Thai..."

Ah well, it was my fault and I'm the kind of girl to go back on her word so I ran to KOT with absolutely no expectations of anything remotely decent. Other Thai restaurants in the city had ruined Thai for me for months so it wasn't really their fault. I understood they had a large clientele base and there was always a line out the door and around the corner for some reason so I'll admit I was a teeny tiny bit biased.

After studying the menu for a minute and narrowing down the soups, I decided on the wonton soup (to be on the safe side) and Pad Thai for the co-worker. Apparently, college age boys have a four compartmental stomach much like cows and each stomach must be filled with Kraft Jet Puff, granola bars, Gatorade, and Pad Thai or something in peanut form. Must be something about reverting to childhood favorites that keep them going.

I walked inside and was semi-greeted by the girl at the take-out counter. I say semi-greeted because I wasn't sure if she was saying "hi, how can I help you?" or "how many today?" or "welcome to Yu's dry cleaning" because of her thick accent. I'm horrible with understanding anything that's not spoken in perfect English nowadays (which is ironic indeed) so conversing in any metropolitan city has become the obstacle for me as of late. Anyhow, I pushed on and ordered the entrees, paid, and stood there. And stood...and stood some more. The shame about this place is that they don't have a take-out waiting area to make way for more tables to sit down at. Imagine if it was raining??

Apparently, the take-out girl had the same problem understanding me and I had understanding her because lo and behold, only the soup came out. The only reason for me walking in a Thai place and there was no Pad Thai in my bag. That could have been my fault of course-maybe I didn't speak clearly enough? Maybe I should have counted my change to verify I was charged an amount that seemed reasonable for 2 entrees? In any case, she apologized politely, assured me it would be out quickly since it was only noodles and offered me a seat at the bar single seating area.

At this point, it was me who was starving. Against etiquette and better judgement, my stomach won out and I dug into the wontons. One by one, I plopped a delectable dumpling in the hot chicken broth, mixed in half a container's worth of hot sauce and found a much better way to pass the time. The broth was hot, full of herbs and tasted like a healthy alternative to chicken noodle soup and the dumplings were my very own two bite interludes.  A server randomly passed by and dropped off a glass of water as I waited which I thought was a lovely touch. And about a 1/4 of the way down the soup container, a pad thai was delivered and I was on my way again.

I felt guilty it took over 30 minutes to just get noodles out of there but they did make up for it the second time with their quick service and graciousness. It's still not going to make me crave Thai food anytime soon but I won't be kicking and screaming next time someone suggests it.

Too oily/heavy for me...

I have been there couple of times, when my friend and I cannot absolutely find anywhere else to go after working out and extremely hungry.

After finding "Thai House Express" (My favorite Thai restaurant in town), I just don't really find this place very attractive. I mean this place is probably good for tourists, but not for me. Everything is too heavy and large in portion, so it is quite difficult to finish.

One time they served Thai ice tea for free when the economy was really really bad (still bad, right?), so I thought it was nice. However, just in general, the place is always packed aka not a nice place to really site down and have a nice conversation while eating.

Definitely, I know much better Thai food elsewhere.

After walking around Union Square and SF Center for a few hours, I had built up a huge appetite. My wife and I passed King of Thai a couple times before finally deciding to circle back and give it a try.

I was impressed with the service and the decor of the venue. Very Thai! Lots of purple, including the polo shirts the staff was wearing.

I was surprised to see so many varieties of noodles on the menu. Many of the dishes I had previously thought were strictly Chinese, such as Egg Noodles with Chicken or Duck. I went ahead and ordered the Egg Noodles with BBQ Pork. The noodles were great, fresh, and the service was huge. I was definitely satisfied after this meal. We also ordered some Chicken Satay to start which was honestly the best Satay ever.

Came here for many time and never have time to write anything about their food. So, after the Giants game on Tuesday night against the Dodger. We came out on TOP of 9 with 3-2 LA. Knowingly, they not going to win, so we went to have some noodle before we head back home.

The food and the service is fast here. I believe it's only took us about 15 mins to finish our late night noodle. They open till late, so if you're hungry, be sure to stop by at the king of Thai noodle house for late night snack or dinner. I have to give this place a 4 star for fast and great food.

Oh man, the only thing going for this place is the fact that it's cheap and it's edible.  And I guess the location's pretty good, right by Union Square.

Other than that,  this place sucks pretty bad.

Why?  How?  Aite, here we goes:

- It's cash only.  I fucking hate cash only places.  I never bring enough cash with me, so cash only places are super lame to me.
- Everything is just so blah-tasting.  I used to think King of Thai was okay because they've got big portions and it's decently priced, but it's not so good in the taste category.  Last night, I got a pad see ew, and it was super greasy, and after the first few bites, I just wasn't feeling it anymore.  But I was hungry, so I kept eating.  Very unappetizing.
- They don't serve any alcohol!!! What! I really felt like some beer with my dinner last night for some reason, but ALAS my friend just happened to pick the ONE restaurant that doesn't serve ANY alcohol.  Not cool.
- The waitress kept rushing us for some reason.  Again: not cool.

Final word: Greasy, generic, no alcohol wtf, lame.

But it's edible and cheap, so that's where the two stars come in.

This is the fourth "King of Thai" I have been to. All the locations are pretty solid, but they are all a little bit different (menu items seem to change with location). The best part of this location is that the owners are running a recession special where everyone can get a free Thai Iced Tea or hot tea for free! My friend almost jumped out of his chair with glee when he realized this deal. I have a feeling they could have served him a rubber shoe on a plate and he would have loved it because of the free Thai Iced Tea.

Anyway, aside from the free tea, King of Thai did not disappoint. I had the pad see ew with tofu and it was delicious and huge - I could not finished it. My friend had the yellow curry with special garlic/ginger rice. The food was solid and the portions are giant. Free Thai Iced Tea was the icing on the cake. Great choice when you need a break from shopping around Union Square.  Oh, don't forget these guys are cash only.

I'm going to start on the good and work my way down, down, down.

The Good:

-Free 1st cup of Thai iced tea. There's nothing better than a cup of thai iced tea, except when it's free of course.
-Even though there's a billion people waiting for a seat, my group of 3 (yeah i know you waitresses hate this) got seated in 7 minutes.
-This KoT location doesn't stand out from the other locales.

The Bad

-Bitchy waitress. As luck would have it, I had the WORST waitress in all of San Francisco that night. (this is going to turn into a waitress review...in 3, 2, 1)

-Didn't smile ONCE at us.
-Didn't acknowledge the million of flyers advertising free drink until I repeated myself a total of five times. Then she grudgingly went "HOW MANY?!"
-Didn't offer to give ANY explanation why she served another table that sat down half an hour into my visit MY FOOD.
-Didn't bother to look like she gave a shit when I asked her to check up on my pad thai.
-Came back with my food 35 minutes into my dinner with a plate of pad thai that I'm afraid she spat into just by looking at her demeanor.  To top it off, she basically threw my food towards me. Maybe if you didn't serve the other table MY pad thai, you wouldn't have to be so fing pissed off.

-You know, if you just apologized for the mix-up, I would've happily waited for a new plate.

I think they made it up by giving me a larger plate of food. My friend's pad thai was definitely half the size. Way to go consistency. The food was okay, definitely a little too much sesame oil but it's pretty solid.

because of that woman, 10% tip for dinner. This is a FU for the way you FU'd my dinner experience. Can they fire her ass yet? This is why I go to the ones on Clement.

It's quick, cheap, and good. It's also oily, heavy, and way too loud. If you want something fast, and you are craving a thai rice dish, and you don't want to walk two or three blocks more then go here.

The food here is pretty good, but nothing special for Thai.  I got the Pad Thai (which is a good was too gauge Thai restaurants) and this one came in a HUGE plate, with plenty of food, but nothing to really excite me.  Plus,. as a special, they're giving one free glass of ice-tea, ice-coffee or one other thing when you order an entree.

I would probably have given it 4 stars if the service was better.  Yes, we waited a long a long time before ordering because we were waiting for a friend, but that doesn't excuse the way we were treated.  I accidentally spilled my drink on the table, no big deal.  So I picked up my plate and moved it over to the empty table next to us, so that I could wipe up.  A waitress came over so I assumed she would bring me napkins or help me clean up.  Nope, she just told me to move my plate because they needed the table next to us (which they still didn't use until 10 minutes later).  It was obvious that I had ice and ice-tea all over my table, and was using up a bunch of napkins to soak it up, but I was completely ignored.  So yeah, not the best service.

I can never remember the name of this place, so I haven't gotten around to reviewing until now. But it's a tradition for my best friend and I to eat here every time we're both in the city. Bottom line is I've been here about a gazillion times.

Apparently all I had to do to find this place on Yelp was to Google "purple Thai restaurant San Francisco." Go figure.

The food is pretty freaking good. I'm not sure if that's because I'm always monstrously hungry when I come here, but I've never left unsatisfied.

Pad thai tends to be pretty standard from restaurant to restuarant, but this place makes it particularly well. Standard flavoring, but perfectly cooked noodles, and crisp fresh vegetables set it apart from mediocrity.

The curry chicken is delicious too. They use textured vegetable peelers or something, because the potatoes chunks have little stripey patterns on them. I like that because the little groovey grooves pick up more sauce.

Portions are on the larger side of average. The service isn't awesome, but they're always prompt and very efficient. Like... super efficient. As in "place your order and get your food in five minutes or less" efficient. So I feel like that kind of makes up for the not-so-smiley faces.

And the whole damn place is freakin royal purple.

Growing up Asian, my dearest mother had a little glass jar next to her "salt" and other spices that was simply and humbly labeled "MSG."  At home, we do not use it as liberally as the Americans do, thus MSG-poisoning was never something that I feared, experienced, or even really knew about.

OK, people.  Listen up.  It's not like salt, it should not be used as salt, and MSG related headache reports started when some brilliant scientist in the US cultured bacteria for the requisite composite instead of harvesting it naturally from seaweed.  Natural = good.  Cheap, bacterial substitutes = death.

I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken.  It came out really really quick.  Oh right, there was Free Thai Iced tea that day because the economy is so suck.  Anyways, back to the noodles.  I ate it.  It was really really salty.  I walked to school.  When I get done doing something in the library, I was slammed with the worst MSG headache ever.  EVER.

Quite literally it went like this: I was typing, i was browsing the web, and WHAM.  My head was down on the table across my splayed arms, my tongue hanging out like some uncultured bull dog, and I was DROOLING on my shirt sleeve.  I woke up 45 mins later, like I had been drugged.  Because i had.  This has never happened before except for one time in Oakland's china town.  And it felt just as alarming to go from Able-Bodied to Passed-out coma.  I didn't even finish the plate of noodles bc it was so salty so i know it was not pure food coma.

What was it?  A reality check to not eat out Asian food unless you really trust it.  I had to eat 2 cream puffs after this just to feel right again.  heh.  forced to eat.

After hearing the wait time at the cheesecake factory, me and the GF decided to go out walking to find a place to eat. I know she likes thai food so we stopped into here. This place is pretty big for a hole in the wall. First thing I noticed was that this place was cash only. Good thing I had some, because I normally roll with only my atm card.

They had signs everywhere noting how bad the economy was. Free thai milk tea for everyone! yay! I was pretty good. I wish I could add some boba pearls into it. I had the beef ball soup. The portion would be described as a large at some pho places. Lots of noodles and broth, not a lot of beef balls. The flavor reminded me of bun bo hue.

Took my date to this place since I know she likes Thai.

Easy to get a seat on a Thursday at 7pm, BUT, it was like sitting at a table for 4 with 2 other people you don't know.   Way too close to the others.  Plus the table was crowded with utensils and hot sauces.

Ordered our food.  No idea of the name of hte dish we had, but some wide-noodle Thai with chicken and vegetables some beef curry and some chicken and mushroom soup.

The food arrived within 3-4 minutes of ordering it.  No kidding.  It was that quick.  And our already-packed table was now overflowing.  We were trying to figure out how to get things situated so we could actually eat!

Soup came later and the guy made it fit on the table, but we couldn't eat it since there was no room for the bowl.  Eventually we consolidated plates and ate the soup.

Beef curry was just OK.  The soup and the other wide noodle dish was outstanding!

They cleared the plates, the bill came immediately and that was that.  We were on our way by 7:35 or so.

Be sure to bring cash.  No credit cards accepted.  But for a Union Square meal $25 was great!  And very happy with the food.

Great food, great selection of meat and veggie dishes. Not as spicy as I would normally like thai food, but it works. I like my food spicy.

For a limited time they offer a free...thats right i said FREE, iced thai tea, iced off, or hot tea. With any dine in order.

Bring cash, cause you'll need it. CASH ONLY!

Cash only.  Get your grub on cheap.  3 dishes run you about 25 bucks...not bad at all.  Big portions, each entree enough for two people.

Service is decent, you seat yourself.  food comes out within 5 mins even when crowded...love that.

Good food!

Get a free ice tea, thai iced tea, or ice coffee...not sure how long this will last, but they are doing this right now.

My friend a Borat, he say "Velllllly niiiiice. I liiiiiike."

Um yes.

I've been here before and had a decent experience. I walk up to the door this time and see a sign. The jist of it: "Save your money. The first thai iced tea, iced coffee or hot tea is on us."

Dude.

That in and of itself deserves a good rating. Good mojo begets good ratings. And the food was good too. Five of us paid $13 each (tax and tip included) to split two orders of rice, penang curry (a tad spicy), pad thai, spicy eggplant (which to my pleasant surprise wasn't spicy at all...I dislike spicy), a pork fried rice and one last noodle dish. Plus thai iced teas all around.

Way to make Thai food cheap and delicious. Now if you can avoid going the route of Osha Thai (charging like $13 for noodles and providing uncomfortable modern furniture) and becoming a pretentious homing beacon for arrogant, rich punks, then you will continue to be THE place for Thai.

p.s. CASH ONLY! Do NOT come in with cards! And the Ellis O'Farrell garage is right across the street. Cheers!

Pretty big portion.
My and hubby weren't that hungry so we decided to split a pad thai.
It was pretty good and the prices for a Union Square restaurant / fast food was decent in my opinion.
Will definitely give a chance again.
Oh BTW a side of rice for over $2.00? That I didn't like that much. It was a big portion but I could have bought a whole bag  of rice.

I come to King of Thai to get a quick Thai food fix. You can't go wrong with the pad thai, fried chicken over fried rice, or pad see ew. The soups look really popular and delicious also.

Know before you go: it's cash only and this isn't going to be a gourmet experience.

**They are giving free thai ice tea/ice coffee with your entree which is nice on everyone's wallet**
