One of my favorite places for a quick lunch when I visit Omaha. I usually hit it up with my cousin (we refer to it as "Fring Frongs" for no particular reason at all) and always come away feeling well-fed. Portions are really plentiful and affordable. I usually go for the philly plate, but the gyros are great too. Free refills of soda are a plus. There is usually a surprising number of cop cars parked outside -- the law likes to eat here.
They don't accept credit cards, but there's an ATM right inside.
Great restaurant, good Greek food, great burgers, I think it's important to mention that the burgers are huge, well actually, everything they sell here is huge. Thus the name "king kong". A single kong would be plenty. Also the Baklava is homemade and very tasty.
I would be a bigger fan of this place if after my gyro plate, I didn't have insulting burps for the rest of the day. It's really horrible lol. But it tastes quite good especially with the sour cream. The salad, potato and rice sides are ok, I usually am pretty full after the gyro anyway. I hear the burgers are monstrous but I've never tried them.
If you need to stuff yourself quickly over your lunch break on a dime, this is the place to do so.
I don't think I've ever finished a meal here, even when trying to order modestly. Everything looks so good, and before you know it I have a gyro and fries that could really fill up 3 plates if they weren't heaped on top of each-other. Since I'm not too much of a 'more is better' type of eater, I only frequent Kong's every couple years or so, but it's always good grubbing.
Greek salad with gyro meat = WIN!
I stop in for one every time I am in town.
King Kong is a decent restaurant, as far as "fast food" Greek goes... then again, I can't ever say that I've had "fast food" Greek except here. In any case, you can find a decent vegetarian option.
The Vegetarian Plate consists of a gyro filled with what's supposed to be provolone cheese (although it's actually American), onions, tomatoes, peppers, and mushrooms. Unfortunately, the mushrooms are obviously canned, and detract from the flavor. The Vegetarian Plate also includes a decent Greek salad, and it comes with Greek potatoes. I highly recommend that you opt for fries instead. Their fries are definitely some of the best fast food fries out there.
The prices are somewhat high for fast food, but the portions are rather large.
The other bonus is that it's open all night, which totally rocks.
King Kong is a truly Omaha fast food joint. All the portions are huge, the prices are cheap(relative to the portion size), and you're best off avoiding any sides and sticking to the main options.
The burgers are probably the best fast food burgers you're going to get in the area, maybe even anywhere. Everything that you want out of a burger you get in a Kong burger. It's got just enough grease, a sturdy bun, no excessive toppings, and they're cooked to order. They're huge, too. The gyro meat is exactly what you'd expect out of drive-thru fast food gyro meat... kinda dry and leaves something to be desired...but you get a lot of it. If you're going to get a side, go for the Greek salad- they actually use romaine lettuce(well, at least partially) and feta cheese and kalamata olives. The fries, while well seasoned with some sort of garlic-pepper-etc dusting, are typically soggy and greasy, probably due to the oil they're using not being hot enough.
So why did I give this place a 4-star rating? The burgers. Damn, they're good. Only way I like a burger better is if I'm grilling it.
Ever feel like you wanted to gain 10lbs from a burger? Look no further than King Kong's. The Burgers here a reminescent of what you would expect if you were to do an out-door bbq yourself. Nice, big, juicy, a little burnt type of patties. Usually, a regular kong is sufficient to clog your arteries, but you can also opt for a double or even a triple kong! The side of fries can get a little salty, so expect acne a few days following.
The great thing about King Kong's, watching your day waste away...After eating one, you'll most likely fall asleep the whole day. Yes, just that good.
King Kong has pretty good food. They are cash only which is probably why we don't utilize their drive-thru very often, that and the fact that sometimes it is hard to communicate with the person on the other side of the mic.
The food is distinct. The burgers stick with you for awhile, the gyros and salads are awesome. The fries are some of my very favorites.
Portions are huge, which is good because meals here can be a little pricey. Definitely worth a try!
I was leery of the idea of 'fast food greek', but they pull it off well here. The variety is probably their best selling point, delicious burgers, great gyros, and even gyro salads! Please do not come here seeking 'authentic' greek food; go to Katie's or the Greek Isles. This is a place to come and have a quick bite without spending a lot of cash. Speaking of which, they only accept cash, which is a pet peeve of mine (however, the Lincoln location had a sign last time I drove by that said 'of course we accept credit cards!', I don't know if that is applicable here...).
One nice thing about King Kong is, if you need a police officer, you are sure to find one here. I think every time I have been here, so has a cop.
I have primarily eaten their gyros, which are great. Typical gyros with the reconstituted lamb meat, really really strong onions and lots of the yummy white sauce. And don't forget the lightpink anemic tomato chunks. But they are good. I enjoy their gyro plate, which includes a greek salad (good feta) and greek potatoes.
The fries are really good, they have some kind of seasoning salt on them. This is great hangover food. I have had their burgers, which are also good. And they have a daily special, and when it's steak--go for it.
Like the other reviewer, I am always surprised that it is primarily Asian's that work in here. They only take cash, which is a huge inconvenience in this day and age. They have an ATM in their lobby, which I am sure charges a HUGE convenience fee.
On my long tiresome search for asians in Nebraska, I found them in the least likely place. Making gyros, greek salads, and baklava off of Dodge. Okay, I admit the huge King Kong growling at me from the side of the road holding the giant gyro and burger is what really drew me into this curiously small restaurant but the gyros and the mispronunciation of everything greek by the lady behind the counter keeps me coming back. And the asians are fast, King Kong has the food on the counter for you to scarf down faster than you can fill up your soda cup. Delish food and huge portions. Minus one star for not accepting credit cards and having an atm machine that charges like 50 dollars.
King Kong is exactly what it looks like - a decent gyro joint with some good burgers and fries as well. It looks a little run down and could use a move into the 90's as far as decor goes, but WTH, i'm not there for a comfortable chair, I'm there for a 1 pound double cheeseburger with fries for $6.00. The minute I finish I know it's time to head home since my body was only made to intake 1/2 pound of beef at any one sitting max. But it's worth it.
Cheap burger and gyros. I like this place. This is very unique to Omaha. I don't think I have found another place like it in other places that I travel to. There are other Greek chains in the U.S. and Canada, but with steak and burgers this place is pretty good. There's also a location right across from the baseball stadium near the zoo. As well as one in ralston/papillion area, although I don't recall the street is on.
