I'm never on this side of town. But if I was, I'd go here. Everyday. Every damn day I tell you.
Why? It's amazing food. AND CHEAP! But most of all amazing.
You can eat healthy, unhealthy, a combo of both, whatever you want. The portions are out of this world and the food is pretty awesome.
Don't go expecting gourmet Greek, ok? They have a drive thru (which let's be honest, is incredibly convenient) so it's not your white tablecloth kind of place. It's in an old fast food restaurant, kids. Get it straight.
There had to have been at least 55 menu/combo options and in-house baklava choices ready to roll. Gourmet to traditional, there were 5 different kinds of amazing desserts.
Since the portion sizes are huge (I found this out later) a mini gyro worked out just fine for me. A combo with a Greek salad, which was brimming over the sides!, a large fountain drink and a "mini" gyro was under $7! And the current Yelp check-in offer via the mobile app is a FREE hummus appetizer. I got two mini gyro combos and a FREE appetizer thanks to their check-in offer for $14! Eff yeah!
The hummus appetizer is amazing in itself. The pita is warm, cloud-like fluffy and the hummus is full of zest and flavor (and awesome garnishes like cucumber, tomato and olives.)
They are currently under construction as they expand their dining room and create an outdoor patio so look out for a new and improved King Gyros in 2012. In the meantime, don't hesitate to swing by, grab some grub and say hello to owner, Yanni.
Damn, I just couldn't wait to tell people about this place! Go now! -

Why does King Gyros get such good reviews? Even when we came to eat there, everyone constantly went on how great it is, I do not see why. I am from Europe and lived near Greece, maybe I am spoiled and just know what a real Gyros is supposed to taste like and even though the owner is a great guy and his staff is very friendly, the food sucks! We got the lagrest size Gyro one of each with a different meat and all they do to make them bigger is add more lettice. I actually took the salad out of my husbands and each Gyro he had was enough for a full large salad bowl for me! I joked and told him next time we would order the xtra large one without salad and see how they manage, unfortunatly there will be no next time. I would recommend Los Gauchos for good meat made in the same manner but with juices and flavor still intact!

My wife and I were on this side of town and this pita hut had great reviews so we had to stop.
My my my, why did it take us over a year in Columbus to discover this restaurant?? Not only is it truly a Greek pita hut, it has a collection of dishes that rival any restaurant!
Let's go through a few tasties:
Horiatiki (Village) Salad: BEST IN COLUMBUS. Not only are the seasonings perfect, the owner actually uses large chunks of feta unlike crumbled feta. This is the correct "Hellas" way, unlike the way most people think is Greek in Columbus. Remove the banana peppers (which are not traditional, but we are in Columbus, right?) and you've really got a winner. A++
Dolmades: Delicious sauce, although the grape leaves were a little tough. Filling was spot on perfect though.
Avgolemono (lemon-chicken soup): Delicious, but I've had some at some pita huts that were just as good.
Pastichio (Greek lasagna, no this is not Moussaka): A little saucy and a little light on earthy spices, but by far tied for best I've had in Columbus (with Anna's).
Chicken Pita: Simple, big, tasty. Fries were excellent, not too much seasoning.
After we got all this and found it so delicious, we had to try a dessert. We ordered Galaktoboureko (Greek custard)... we were floored. We ordered a second one to go.
We complimented the owner, Yanni, on the way out. We told him that we would eat here twice a week if he had a location on the NW side of town. The location is a little off-beat and would be cautious at night due to proximity to a not so nice area, but once inside, I felt very comfortable.
Inside, however, is a paradise of well-priced Hellenic cuisine. Yum!!! -

I've been a gyro fan for ages. This place has some of the best in Columbus. I like to get a regular size and add banana peppers.
The hummus is ok, not a fan of the spanakopita, and fries are pretty good. In all fairness I should try more things on the menu, but to me this is a gyro joint. -

I don't like giving this place three stars, but it was just A-OK. I was driving by and had heard it was good and needed to eat, so I made a little stop through the drive thru. I ordered a combo that included a mini chicken gyro, fries and a drink. The girl speaking at the drive thru was very very nice!!! She made sure my order was correct and offered me upgrades that I didn't mind hearing about. When I got to the window she told me that it would be about 3 minutes since they cook the chicken fresh to order. She also asked if I was on their e-mail list, and I would have happily joined, but I live a good 35 min away.
Now to the food. The fries were wonderful!!! They were perfectly crisp with the skin on. But, I was not a fan of the gyro sauce. It was way too runny for me. I like gyro sauce that is thick and creamy, but this was not. There was also a little too much lettuce for my liking. I know you can just take the lettuce off, but it felt like a filler; I could hardly taste the chicken under it.
All in all, I enjoyed the service and the fries, but the gyro sauce just didn't do it for me.Listed in: Fast Casual, Defunct Fast Food Restaurants

So, I've recently discovered the goodness of the Greek dressing you can purchase here... in larger quantities to take home :)
Absolutely heavenly. Sub it or add to the tzatziki on the Falafel.
My S.O. had the cajun chicken gyro and loved it. He's also sampled the Philly between then and now. His goal is to sample through all the specialty gyros.
I just learned it's only 60-cents for an extra slice of pita bread!
Sadly, I prefer my own hummus and eggplant dip (Baba Ghanouj). It's good, just not the showcase item.
Got the Greek fries to go this time, they hold up just fine.Listed in: Vegetarian/Veggie with options, Cater to me, baby!

I had heard from coworkers that King Gyros was better than the Mad Greek on East Broad St. I was also warned that you need to get it to go.
So my husband stopped here to pick up our carry out order and then we headed to Wolfe Park for my lunch hour.
I was disappointed. I love banana peppers and there were none on our gyros. The fries were also very soggy.
They failed to put napkins in the bag and gyros tend to get messy.
I won't be back, not when Mad Greek does it right everytime. -

It's been almost a year since I reviewed this but it doesn't seem that long. I came today for supper. I had a mediterranean chicken gyro and a bowl of lentil and vegetable soup. The soup was great. It had large chunks of carrots in a reddish broth. Just scrumptious! For dessert I had a piece of their standard baklava. It too was delish! A good meal and I got to see Yanni again.

I have been to King Gyros several times over the past months and the food is always over the top.
Whether it's a Gyro, the delicious Lamb Shanks, the Spinach Pie (Spanakopita), or one of the many varieties of deserts, the quality is top notch and the taste is sure to please.
And the menu is insanely huge. You can easily eat at King Gyros every day for 50 days and not have the same thing twice. My favorites are the Salmon Dinner and the Chicken Kabob, and his fries are to die for. They are always fresh and it's my understanding that they are fried twice, which gives them a crispness and fabulous taste. My husband swears they are the BEST fries in the area.
What makes King Gyros so great is you can easily make any dinner a 4 or 5 course meal, or you can swing in for a quick bite. The menu is very versatile, the service is great, and the food is always delicious, regardless as to what you order. If you like Greek food, King Gyros is a must to check out! -

Yes, this update has been swayed a bit by the overwhelming hospitality that was shown during our UYE here. But it's deserved, totally.
Having had a chance to talk with the owner and staff, it's obvious that he is passionate about creating great food. Our food that evening consisted of a few things I had not previously tried, but were very, very good.
Will definitely be coming back for either a carry out or quick dine-in.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

At first glance, the little building at 400 Hamilton Road looks like any other small fast food restaurant, but spend two hours inside sampling the food and anyone will understand why there is a steady stream of customers lining up even in the middle of the afternoon when other restaurants are typically experiencing a lull.
King Gyros, owned and managed by Yanni Chalkias, can seat about 36 people comfortably and has a drive-through. Yanni is a first-generation Greek-American. He and his family opened the restaurant in 1991 using a handful of recipes handed down from his father. Most of the dishes on the menu do not exceed $10, so a family dinner at King Gyros will not break the bank. Parents will be happy to know that there is a kid's menu with some less exotic options, such as hamburgers and chicken fingers.
King Gyros is a hidden gem here in Columbus that you must try. The staff is friendly, the portions are huge, and the flavor of the food is unique and superb. What's more, all the prices are very reasonable. They even have a drive-thru, so you can get your Greek fix on the run at lunchtime. You can visit King Gyros on the web where you can actually order your food for pickup. King Gyros can also be followed on Twitter at @KingGyrosGreek.Listed in: Jason's Regular Haunts

Review from Lisa S.
Yanni was generous enough to open up the doors of King Gyros and let us in for an UYE - and I had no idea what a treat I was in for!
The inside is small but intensely colorful, and Yanni set aside part of the dining room just for us. I didn't even have to bother finding something on the menu, because our menu for the evening was chosen for us and served throughout several courses. The normal menu ranges from everything to gyros, subs, burgers and then of course real Greek fair. I personally think Yanni shouldn't even bother with the more American centered food (burgers). But if you don't know what to order, certainly ask Yanni or one of the helpful staff at King Gyros. They'll be sure to guide you through a truly authentic Greek meal.
And really, the hospitality is what should bring in more customers to King Gyros. Of course they're going to stick around because the food is excellent, but I really feel like I'm dining in Yanni's own dining room at home. -

My dad surprised me tonight by bringing me some wonderfully, yummy, lamb gyro and baklava! Let me warn you, if you've never eaten here, the food is well made and the portions are huge. One portion was enough for both my mom and I to share and still be full! If you've never thought that you would like lamb, do try it here. The lamb is amazingly flavorful and you'll never want a gyro without lamb again.
I was planning on coming back here soon to make sure my boyfriend got to taste the best Greek food in Columbus, but I'm glad my dad thought that I needed it sooner!
Yianni, I'll be back soon!!Listed in: Columbus Metro

I disagree with the other reviews. You call this place heaven, I pity your life.
I ordered a Jumbo Gyro. WAY too much sauce, making the pita soggy and overly sloppy. Jumbo apparently means jumbo on the lettuce, because I had to eat about a head of lettuce to get to the meat.
Fries were absolutely flavorless. Nothing to be said for them other than they were a calorie delivery mechanism.
I'm back to Yannis on Cleveland Ave. I've found nothing better in the Columbus area. -

King Gyros, although initially a bit offputting by the run-down appearance and fast food-style, is an excellent (and inexpensive!) eatery. It even has a drive-through (which is a rarity for Greek food)! Try the excellent Gyro salad with signature tzaki sauce, the hummus with warm pita, the huge King Gyros overflowing with lettuce, meat, tomatoes, onions and sauce and the tasty baklava and tiramisu pie sweet treats in the dessert case.

I could not in good conscience tell someone to eat here. In fact, if I wanted to torture someone, I would make them eat this slop. It was by far the most disgusting food I have ever had the unfortunate displeasure of eating. The place looks like it should be torn down or changed into a porta-john because it is definitely a sh-thole!!!!
