I wish I was more impressed than I actually was. The house and gardens are so beautiful, but the interiors are very bland and the story of the residents there didn't interest me much. I couldn't help but feel that the tour was really geared toward the very young and/or the very old, and that both demographics may be more easily impressed than I was. Really, was I supposed to find her slips and pantaloons interesting? Was I supposed to ooh and aah at the photograph of Amelia Earhart? Or the driver's pocket watch in the museum part?
Now granted, some of the rooms were really nice, but I guess it would be hard for the interior to live up to the fabulous exteriors. Perhaps it comes down to the docent, too. Maybe if I had a different docent, it would have helped.
I think the gardens are the real attraction here. The interior of the house is certainly interesting and worth touring once but you'll remeber the garden and want to come back to see it again; it's very photogenic. There are just a handful of public gardens in southern California that recall the more formal and traditional era of landscape design and Kimberly Crest is one of them.

If you have never been to Redlands, you definitely need to go and when you do, Kimberly Crest is a MUST SEE. There are very few California Historical sights such as this one. The grounds are immaculate as is the house itself that seems something of a fairy tale. This is one my favorite destinations in Southern Cali.
